is that ONLY auto attacks or does spells such as heroic strike and crusader strike etc. count aswell?

In a perfect world, the uptime would be 25% (every 20 seconds out of 80 seconds). However, due to its proc chance of only 10%, the actual uptime would be closer to 16-18%. This would be an average of about 290 mastery.

The proc from this trinket is called "Hardened Shell" in case anybody was curious..
very nice for bears when it procs.. im at 348 ilvl and when it procs my savage def dmg absorbed goes up to 97%

My parses show an uptime of around 20% for the proc. Would it be reasonable to average the mastery rating from the proc across the full duration of the fight as a means of assessing its strength as a trinket?

My logfiles indicate that it takes as little as 1:20 to activate after the effect ended. This strongly suggest that the internal cooldown is 60 seconds, since ICD usually start when the effect triggers (effect lasts 20 sec), not when it ends.

The part to look out for is the fact that it procs on YOUR hit, making it a bad choice for "single target with tankswitch"-fight since it might proc when you are not tanking.

It's a very good trinket for Paladin tanks and possibly all other tank classes, all tanks can use dodge and mastery proc, I also reforge the base dodge to mastery. I like the proc. because I feel it procs quite often and I don't have to worry "did I forget to click my trinket again" as I did with JC figurine. If you prefer clicky trinkets, you might want something else, but I think I'll stick to this one for a long time.

Stamina is no longer the one stat to stack and both epic raiding tank trinkets are stamina-oriented. The Darkmoon Card use effect is HP again, don't see much use of it, we aren't one shot any more. DKs might like HP effect due to their abilities scaling with max HP, other tanks, not so sure...

If you don't go for stamina trinkets, this + Mirror of Broken Images is probably your best option.

For pally/warrior tanks: unless your hit and expertise capped, which you shouldnt be at this point, you will have a hard time getting this to proc. However the ~20% increase in block proc as well as the amount of pure dodge on it will get you much closer to the 102.4% cap than pretty much any other trinket at its lvl.

While I do agree it's the best threat stat, I will disagree to this statement as a whole due to one thing: Vengeance.

Sure DPS is getting increasingly geared, but so should you. As such, your health pool will go up quite a bit, thus granting larger Vengeance stacks. Blizzard has stated that in the future if DPS threat gets out of hand as it did near the end of Wrath, they'd likely just buff Vengeance. They're aware that tanks are not able to stack hit and expertise for threat, so their solution works.

I've personally tried to get this trinket for the past 3 weeks every single day on heroic and i have yet to see it drop once.. i'm about to give up on the trinket i have the non heroic verison and i can tank raid bosses fine without it.. But this trinkets drop rate needs to be increased if this truely had 20% drop rate i would have gotten this.. i guess the RNG gods frown upon me.

For those using Power Auras or some such, the proc is called "Hardened Shell" (Hardened Shell for non-heroic). I can also concur with the above people on the 1m 20s internal cooldown based on about an hour of tests.

Does anyone know if this can be equipped with the normal version(78) and if so can they both proc at the same time? thinking of getting some crazy absorbs happening haha

Maybe I have very bad luck? For me the 20% droprate is way off. I have run over 20 times and seen zero of these which btw are BiS before Heroic Firelands for tanks.. better than any 378 trinket... the most underrated piece in the game even more than the Volcano caster dps Trinket. The non heroic version I got first run ... I got laughed at by some ignorant healers for wearing a 308 trinket but it's still pretty decent with a mastery reforge. Wish the H version would drop for me!
