You can't solo BWL or AQ40 or even MC at present. Even if you have full 277 ilvl gear, you won't be able to solo it. Good fight mechanics prevent gimmicks, sadly, such mechanics died out with wrath. Hopefully they make it back in Cataclysm. Personally I'd like to see these moron healbot-depending failures who call themselves healers, get hard knocks learning that in the unforgiving world of not-having infinite mana, doing things like *cleansing* the nasty debuff their respective class can cleanse is essential for efficiency and proper game play. These wrath noobs now just sit there and spam heals through something they can cleanse for a tenth of the mana cost.

It is quite possible the valks still won't target you if you solo LK. The valks can't target the tank, other fights in ICC where there is a no-target-tank mechanic the mechanic just doesn't happen if you solo it. The most obvious is Rotface where the oozes don't spawn at all because the "these dont spawn on the tank" rule trumps the "these spawn every X seconds" rule. LK could be much the same.

Also, I think a lot of people are ignoring how big a dps / gear upgrade going from WotLK to Cata is relative to that you gained going from TBC to WotLK. Sunwell gear for example was every bit as good as the 10 man Naxx heroic gear and in some cases as good as the 25 man gear. Contrast that with the Cataclysm situation where the top end T10 gear will be replaced by quest greens before you ding 85.

While I won't say about 25 man, I will say that unless there is an encounter mechanic that prevents it I would expect 10 man ICC normal modes to be solod completely before the end of Cataclysm because once you start seeing DK Blood Tanks with over 100k health and 1000 dps weapons they will find it quite easy to meet both the DPS and healing requirements to clear ICC 10. Consider that DKs can already solo Rotface on 10 normal until he hits the enrage timer (they just can't do enough DPS to kill him).

While obviously nothing is certain I certainly wouldn't make a blanket claim that we won't see LK soloed before the end of Cataclysm. Stating with certainty that it won't happen puts you on the same shaky ground as someone stating with certainty that it will happen but like I said, unless the encounter mechanics prevent it I wouldn't be at all surprised to see LK solod before the end of Cata.

SWP gear was not at all equal to (certainly not better than) Naxxramas 10 gear. It was generally good enough to last you TO 80, but 80 blues beat it out hands down.

To illustrate my first point, let's look at some 2H swords:

Clearly the much higher dps, damage, crit rating, etc make the Naxx10 weapon vastly superior to the SWP weapon.

Just another example how our WotLK gear won't last very long in Cata. If the legendary Axe is being replaced by a crafted Sword at level 81, good things are to come.

If you are wondering whether or not to pick this weapon up/get it crafted... do it. According to Wowhead's "Find Upgrade" button:

Retribution - Slightly better than the weapon that drops in Stonecore normal, there is a 1.7% upgrade from a quest in Deepholm (level 82), 11.7% upgrade from zone drop in Lost City (level 83), 12.2% upgrade from the new Ring of Blood (level 84), and a 16.6% upgrade that drops in Grim Batol (level 83).

Arms warriors and Unholy DKs fair similarly. This means this particular weapon will see you through ~40% of the leveling content by itself. Along with it being, of course, way better than whatever you came into Cataclysm with.

While this is indeed a very nice weapon to have at L81, it is in no way required. What you basically get is the Axe of Earthly Sundering two levels early (because you'll probably be about L83 by the time you've completed the quests in Deepholm for that item).

L81-83 isn't a very long time in Cataclysm levelling, and it's also very easy. You'll get there no problem with a green quest reward too.

So get it if you can afford it, it's fun to be slightly OP at L81. But if you can't, or you don't feel like spending ~500g on something that will get replaced very soon, then don't worry about it.

Unless you have a miner or a lot of gold to burn I would wait for Ascia della Separazione della Terra in Deepholm, which will get replaced at 84 by Obliteratore Obliquo di Ogre Oltremisura from coc in Twilight highlands.

IMO one of the best sword designs in the game. It actually looks like a sword and not a Foam NERF weapon/Lightsaber/Collage of metal scraps and broken glass/Aircraft wing.

This is great for questing to lvl 85 and doing some lower lvl dungeons. With raiding i think an upgrade is needed.
As a BS you can sell a few of this a week.

Before overpaying for this item on the AH, make sure to check and see if a friend or guild member can craft it for you as a Blacksmith, as the raw materials are usually quite a lot cheaper. On my server (Proudmoore, Horde) they go for anywhere between 500 gold to 750 gold each. I, however, paid 30 gold for 20 Obsidium Bars (which were crafted into 10 Folded Obsidium by guild Blacksmith), 12g for 6 Volatile Earth, and 30g for 10 Elementium bars. The 72G I paid for the easy to obtain materials was obviously a lot cheaper than to buy the sword itself. The cost can be cut down even more if you have the mining levels to obtain one or more of the materials required.
