I actually found one of these atop a hill that could not be accessed without a flying mount on Netherwing Ledge in Netherstorm..

After completing the Horde quest for the recipe, Grub will sell Dig Rats in limited supply. I've gotten 4-8 from him on different occasions. The respawn seems to be on a 5-15 minute respawn or so. Not something to camp for but if you do like me and queue for pvp and check after the bg it'll usually be respawned.

The Recipe is found By killing Dig Rat, which can be found in Southern Barrens, in Bael Modan and have a chance to drop Plump Dig Rat, and you cook it, and it automatically teaches you the recipe.

Yes it is still available, it's BOP, found from rats only.
Took me 41 to get the plump one.

I have one. Not sure how I got it but presumably from a "Dig Rat" at Bael Modan.

I guess it doesn't really sell for 344g...

Inside building at 48, 84. Loot the rats, level 23 quest since mobs around the rats are level 22-24

I decided to kill an innocent dig rat in that mining pit in The Barrens, so surprised to see this on his body. Next thing you know it, rabbits are skinnable. Oh wait, they are.

/MACRO - and make a shortcut for making macros so you don't have to go through the Esc/game menu to get there.

/tar dig rat - and place on keybind or action bar for easy access

Now run around have a much easier time targeting specific mobs.

In case you don't know, the Dig Rat is not an NPC. It's a regular critter that looks like - tadaa - a rat. Once you kill it, you have to cook it over a fire from your cooking ability. Once it is cooked, you will get the recipe.
