It does not have to be. 226 is the currently the highest item level in the game, while crafted gear remains at item level 200, the same as non KT naxxramas drops. Assuming this stays the same, we can expect the first bosses of Ulduar to drop 226 items as well.

Now this will be quite a money maker unless the plans drop at a fair rate. It is currently one of the best DPS belts (if not THE best) and getting your hands on this baby will be in the mind of every (plate) DPS class out there.

The mats are steep I admit but the benefit is just worth it

iirc blizz said something about runed orbs dropping off ulduar bosses so the mats might not be that bad assuming your guild doesn't sell or randomly give out the orbs.

Couldn't come across a list for the base materials, so here goes: The base materials for this amazing belt.

Not sure if anyone else has seen this, but I think blizz is a little off on their stats and itemization for ulduar. A lot of the time the dps gear had less str and more stam when you put it side by side to the tanking peice. The crafted tank belt has 84str and 103stam. The same goes for the crafted boots as well, dps peice has less str and more stam than the tank peice.

I think blizzard did a mix-up. Someone should really check into this.

If you compare Battlelord's Plate Boots with Spiked Deathdealers

You can see that the DPS plate boots got 69 strength vs Tanking boots 85 strenght
furthermore DPS plate boots got 126 stamina vs tanking plate boots 103 stamina

If you compare Belt of the Titans with Indestructible Plate Girdle

You can see that the DPS plate belt got 69 strenght vs tanking plate belt got 84 strength
furthermore DPS plate belt got stamina 126 vs tanking plate belt 103 stamina

Looking at all other plate items, tanking items have had more stamina and less strenght (or attack power) than a comparable dps item.

I for one think blizz switched the 2 stats on both the boots and belt.

Unless this belt is reitemized its not going to be better than belt drops from ulduar. I ran this belt thru landsouls spread sheet and its just not as good as other belts.
And I did account for the expertise.

I think that the thing this belt has going for it is that you'll be able to put 3 gems in it...

2 or even 3, depending on if you want to use the belt to satisfy a meta requirement.

69 strength on the belt + 3 16 strength gems (48 strength) = 117 strength.
Once you do the math with gems in it, it's not so bad, now is it?

It will be the best belt for a while because of the simple fact it takes two gems before a belt buckle.

Putting all three +27 str prismatics into this belt makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Just use one in the blue slot then put red gems in the other slots, surely? Why on earth would you put a prismatic gem in a prismatic belt buckle slot? Use your prismatics on your awkward colour (ie. blue), with the added bonus of contributing to your meta requirements.

If you're looking to meet one of your blue gem requirements, this belt is a good place to put a sovereign twilight opal. You then only have -2 str for +12 stam and half a meta activation. 115 str is a lot for this slot :)

Jewelcrafters of course get to use 16, 27, (+6) putting the properly socketed total str at 134!

This is https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=40317 v2.0, more strength via gems and socket bonus, more stam is useful to survive in many raid situations, the loss of crit doesn't matter. A very nice plate belt for all plate dps wearers.

In Burning Crusade tank gear was all about stacking stamina. That still is a viable strategy but more often than not we see examples as stated above where a dps piece may have more stam than the tank piece. So, blizz is basically forcing us now to rethink things. As a tank, you should be more concerned with mitigation than plain old +stam . Stack things like dodge, parry and block.

Changed in patch 3.3.3 to only require 5 Titansteel Bars and 6 Runed Orbs.
