Where does it come from and how hard is it to get?

How much would I expect to pay for one off eBay or similar?
According to http://www.wowtcgloot.com/foam_sword_rack.htm (most information sourced from there), the expansion will release on the 24th of March 2009. Upperdeck the makers of the TCG have specified that all three loots in this expansion (Sandbox Tiger, Epic Purple Shirt, Foam Sword Rack) are as common as those in the previous set, so apart from the initial rush during release the price for this item should average around $140USD.

Facts:

Summons a sword rack that either faction can loot for consumable foam swords.
The Foam Swords allow players to "bonk" other players wielding said swords.
Winning a sword fight causes opponent to lose their sword in a confetti explosion.
Summoned rack lasts for 3 minutes and can be looted for unique foam swords unlimited times.
Useable at any level and therefore available for twinks.

How do the Loot cards work?
Loot cards are special rare versions of WoW TCG cards found in booster packs, starter decks, and raid decks that have a revealable unique code. Once this protective layer concealing the code is scratched away, a 25 digit promotion code is revealed that can be entered into the Blizzard official promotions page. These codes work for both US and EU servers.

I have the 25 digit loot code, now what?
All accounts from every region in the world use http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/misc/promotion.html to redeem any and all special loot. This webpage allows you to enter the 25 digit promotion code and also select the region and realm for the character that will receive the loot item.

Upon succcessfuly submitting the above information, you will be presented with an in-game code. Write this code down or print it out; you will need it to retrieve your item. Log into the game with the character that is to receive the item and travel to Booty Bay in Stranglethorn Vale. There, you will need to find a goblin by the name of Landro Longshot. He is located on the lower parts of Booty Bay on the docks, and should be easily recognised due to the fact that he has a distinctive purple shirt and two body guards wearing Tabards of Flame next to him.

When you find Landro, he will first ask if you are here for a promotion, and then ask you which TCG expansion your item comes from (or Points Redemption); check your loot card if you are not sure which item that is. Ensure you have got bag space to hold the item!

30 min cooldown is kinda poop when the swords rack only stays up for 3. I want to play more! 10 min cooldown would be better. =(

I'm just curious before I pursue one. When you redeemed your prize, did you get a stack of them like most other loot card items? Or do you actually get one rack and get to use it forever?

So getting this ingame is at an approximate 140 dollar price tag, while getting IRL thunderfury and dualwielding it would cost you 26 dollars, hmmm - where should i invest my monaaazz++++?

This is a permanent blue item, it's not limited in any way (apart from being Unique and having a 30m cooldown), so you get to keep it and love it for ever and ever. Unless they take the nerf bat to the nerf bats of course.

The foam swords are like other conjured items. You can pick one up and keep it for as long as you want, but it will disappear if you: Zone (apparently), log out for >15m, if you get "bonked" three times while wielding it by someone else using one (disappears in a cloud of colored streamers), AND once you equip it, you cannot un-equip it without it disappearing.

You must equip it (It looks like a 1H or 2H weapon depending on class) to use it, and you have to use its Use: effect I believe to activate it (you can't simply attack). When activated, the effect swings at targets in frontal melee range and if they have a sword equipped it will knock them down and stack one "bonked" debuff on them. There is a cooldown of a few seconds on the effect.

If you get bonked out you can get another sword as long as the rack is still up (it only lasts 3m). The rack will produce an unlimited number of swords as far as I know. Will find out in our 25-man Ulduar tonight :) Once the rack despawns people won't be able to get more swords so then the last one left with one after everyone else gets bonked 3x can be considered the winner.

Note that when the sword goes away it will not re-equip your previous weapon, so beware of using this in a raid and then having everyone rush in bare-handed at the next pull :)

The foam sword says it does 1-2 damage, but I haven't tried hitting a mob with it yet. I suppose for extreme silliness you could do a 40-man raid on Hogger with everyone wielding these.

Worth every penny. This rack makes you a big hit with your server, and your guild is sure to love it during those random raid downtimes.

It only lasts 3 minutes, but most of the fun comes from seeing who can be the last person with the sword. The 3 minutes are sort of a warm-up, and when it disappears the real fun (and screaming on vent) starts. Getting bonked gives a stacking debuff (you lose the sword at 3 debuffs). The debuff wears off after 60 seconds, so running/hiding at 2 stacks is a valid strat.

Mages are really good at this. They can ice block the debuff, mirror image with sword in hand (and confuse the hell out of you), invis and bonk you from behind, and even blink towards you and hit you before they even reappear.

Druids can shapeshift with it so you can't see if they even have a sword. You can still attack with the sword in shapeshift form. Travel form is a good choice here (ghost wolf works the same). Stealthing/sprining in cat form is also a good choice (same for rogues).

I received the loot card as a prize.
On wow.multiplayer.it they make an addon containing translations from english to italian for quests and other in-game text, and sometimes they pop out a translation contest to better motivate people.
So, I came in possession of this incredibly funny item at no cost (except for some hour spent translating, which I actually enjoy).

Anyone can get a sword from the rack. You don't have to be grouped with the person who placed it, and you don't even need to be the same faction. My Undead lock just had a fun game with some Allies outside Orgrimmar.
