My guess is that that Alliance will get a mammoth from another faction that is analogous to this, like the Kurenai and Mag'har are to Alliance and Horde respectively. Either that or there are faction specific (colors?) mounts from the same Sons of Hodir quartermaster. There is an achievement for both factions to obtain the Grand Ice Mammoth Mount so the Alliance must be able to get one somehow.

If this is a 3 person mount like the Traveler's Tundra Mammoth, then how come this one costs only half of the other mount? I mean..it's a pretty big difference so why get the traveler's one? Ok the other one has nicer colours (at least in my opinion) but it's a lot of money for just a different color :S

Carrying people around sounds pretty sweet but...
Do the people who ride shotgun need the required Riding 150 too?
I mean, I want to get this so I can escort around my buddies when I'm helping them level.
But if they need 150 Riding skill they might as well just get on their own mounts so we can diverge paths if need be.
Someone please clear this up before I buy this thing.

Just bought mine - no vendors....
I feel ripped off actually. I bought it for 8k, yeah, the Traveller's costs about double that but you don't have to farm rep to be able to use it (just to get it cheaper), so I thought it'd be fair if that one had vendors as well. Otherweise I could have just bought the 800 Gold version.

Guess I'll have to get the Traveller's Mammoth sometime, but not anytime soon, pretty much throwing 8k out the window does hurt a bit, not gonna spend some money for some time after that....

The item itself doesn't say that 2 more players can mount it, but if you read the spell it teaches, it there says that 2 party members can mount it aswell.

why would you want a 10 000g, ground mount, 100% speed, level 80
when you can have 5000g skill, flying mount, 280% speed, level 80?

Because:

1-) You can carry your friends and even can give taxi service to low level players as a side profession with this mount.

2-) You can carry your team mates in BGs with this mount.

3-) A lot of people misses this, but this is not actually a mount but a vehicle. Which means, if you jump from a high place, your mammoth will take damage and die but you will be unharmed. You are able to summon it back again later.

4-) Simple as it is.. Prestige. Everyone has flying mount now, but rare people can be seen with this mammoth. If you are not flying with a Proto-Drake, you are not unique at all.

Just got mine today.

Some weirds things :

- As a hunter, aspect of the pack does affect the mammoth speed (and i get dazed instead of the mammoth)
- It provides me the 'Grand Black war mammoth' buff.

The multi-use mammoths are great for PVP atm (Until patch change(?)). Hunter(AOTP)+friend and you zoom across bg's putting paladin's to shame. The fact they have their own HP bar makes them even more valuable for that extra little boost.

However, I find Traveller's Tundra Mammoth highly annoying to use in BG's(flipping off npc's everytime for carrying players) opposed to the Grand Ice Mammoth.

Ok, I think this question was answered up above, but just to clarify: The traveler's tundra mammoth is the only one with Vendors? and if so, is there another way to get Vendors ? can you perhaps hire them somewhere?

As of patch 3.0.8, this mount no longer takes fall damage. However, it can still be killed by being attacked.

I'm not sure that it does count as a bug because in a lot of quests where you're 'riding' a vehicle type item, even if it is a golem or a construct or something, you don't take any damage at all no matter how far you fall.
I noticed this the other day doing one of the quests in Howling Fjord where you ride around disguised as a golem, looking like the Westfall Crop Reapers :)

Last night i was in Obsidian Sanctum. I was riding my Grand Ice Mammoth around and jumped off of it. Presumable with in some split second timing I would assume a shaman guildie jumped on to ride in one of the seats and he actually grabbed the mount from me and was able to sit in the main seat on top and ride it. I tried mounting up again thinking i could have one to and it dismounted him and i didn't get the mount. I had to recast and then i could ride it again. Couldn't get this to duplicate.

Few quick things, First for someone to ride on this "Vehicle" they need to be in your party. This makes this mounts use in Battlegrounds limited because people are always dismounting their mounts trying to mount my Mammoth to no avail. Which is really disappointing considering the Choppa does not have this limited functionality.

Second even though I have the option checked to "auto dismount on spell cast" this does not apply to this vehicle you actually have to manually click the "Leave vehicle" button, which makes engaging your target take another two or so seconds; unacceptable in a Battleground situation. As is the fact that Paladin's will leave you in the dust as crusader aura does not seem to work with this vehicle at the moment.

Third all the doorways and bridges that your https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=43956 got stuck on do not hinder this mammoth in any way.

Lastly and most importantly if you get this mount right click one of your passengers and select "follow" (try not to puke).

apparently, this mount is now treated like a real mount.

- it suffers from falling damage
- aspect of the pack / unholy presence don't affect it anymore
- you mount / dismount instantly without the known animation

haven't checked on doorways, but i bet it has a bigger hitbox now.

guess it's time to love the old mammoth on live realms for the last time. :(

No, as of 3.08 neither the rider nor the vehicle/mount is taking fall damage. You can jump from whatever you like and continue on your way. I'd presume its a bug but haven't reported it.

And you say this has been fixed (same patch). If you, if would have been hotfixed then.

Hmm.. would this work? I'm a DK.
1. get 2 passengers aboard, and tell them you'll give em a ride or something.
2. jump from a higher elevation into any water (where you would die normally if the water was solid ground.)
3. use Path of Frost so your party members get the buff.
4. quickly remove your buff by right-clicking it
5. 2 angry party members ?

can anyone try this? I want to have some fun so bad =D

Just acquired this mount today, things to note;

As of writing this it still does not take any fall damage, nor do you or your passengers. Jumped off Dalaran a few times XD
The land mines near K3 do damage to the mount and you.
Eating a buff to make you larger or smaller doesn't change the size of the mammoth.
You can eat clickable food while mounted on the mammoth. By this I mean things such as the feasts and other various raid 'shareable' foods.
It does not have a /mountspecial.
It's a hell of a lot of fun. :)

Just got mine yesterday and I and my DK friend went straight to the land mines near K3
Three things:
1) Neither of us could get any mine count for the achievement and we are pretty sure that we hit lots more then 10
2) The mount and we two took damage from the mines, although as metioned before fall damage is off (Fall from Dalaran over a Azure plataform, without no damage and aggroing the Azure guys, lots of fun)
3) The mount can be healed. My DK friend used bandages on me as we get out of the minefield and i said "try heal the mount", worked without problems. I guess the other healing factors should work as well

Sadly, as of today's patch 3.1, this mount has had QUITE a few changes. It no longer counts as a seperate unit but as a normal mount, meaning no more cliff diving and continuing, you WILL take fall damage. It also cannot be affected by aspect of the pack now due to this, and for all us show-offs with both this and the Headless Horseman's mount, we can no longer dual mount, riding the HH mount ontop of this one... And lastly, it's...hitbox is...well...HUGE. You can't even get through 75% of normal pathways as you did before, and this makes it such a HASSLE in small areas like UnderCity, those elevators are pure unpassable walls unless you dismount or choose a smaller one.

I'm quite disappointed with all these changes, as it was fun running around Dal after drinking a growth pot, dual mounting, and having a friend shrink the mammoth.

R.I.P Oh super fast mount, I will miss you in Alteric Valley for sure for those fast tower caps...

this is referring to mingoo1109's question,

if u take any damage at all while using PoF, the effect will be canceled

so if u take it off in mid air while falling into water, u will just land in the water, not take any damage, and as of patch 3.1, u wont be dismounted either

now another thing is, the only way to take PoF of off ur party members is to simply take it off of urself, it is counted as a group spell, even ur minions will be effected by the spell

and besides, if this mount still takes falling damage, dont know if it still does or not, then u and ur party members would not take any damage, only the mammoth would, so the effect would only be taken off of the mammoth, so u would just end up with a cool looking swimming mammoth

a good way to prove this is to jump off of some part of dalaran, and try to land into that small pond below

and if by any chance that i am wrong, well u better make sure those passengers were some rogues, mages, priests, or some pallies, or else, u will have those po'd party members u were hoping for

Reasons to get this mount:

-It isn't a mount it's a vehicle.
-You can carry friends, great for boosting, BG's
-Yes it's alot of gold, but you probably don't have a mount like it.

Gold is so easy to get, the gold needed to buy this will come around in the near future
It's cool and alot of people will ask you for rides etc.

its 10k, but when u get exalted, u get a discount and takes it to 8k, the mount that is more expensive is the one in dal , that u get from mei francis, which is 20k, but if u get exalted with the kirin tor, then it is only 16k

Its worth noting that this mount cannot be returned for the full price since you gain the achievement on purchase and not use.

I think it should be noted that while it can make traveling in cities difficult, the height provided allows one to run through small rivers and streams that a smaller mount would otherwise swim (and thus slow down to swim speed).

Just a little note:

You can take two friends to AV. One drives the mount. The two can jump off, do a bit of ganking and jump back on - even in combat. Then you run away, replenish and go back.
I did this with a friend once was highly amusing, dropped him off, let him killed stuff, when he got low, i ran past he hopped on, then healed him up and went back :P

Not sure if anyone stated this yet, but you can probably get other people the explorer achievements if they ride on yours. Havn't tested this yet btw, just assuming. Oh and if you buy this mount be prepared to say farewell to getting through doors.

Fun fact about this mount: If used be a priest in shadowform the passengers will also get shadowform. So all non-priests out there: If you wanna see what you look like in shadowform, this is your chance.

Also worth a comment to clarify some things about previous bugs with this mount:
* This mount will NOT turn insanely fast if you select follow on a passenger any more.
* This mount will allow you to take fall damage like all other mounts.

So, if you take a level 18 through Arathi Highlands to go to Shadowfang Keep, for example, be careful because the mobs will still want to eat your little friend

Just thought I'd point out, because it confused the hell out of me, this comment is correct and is usefull but the part about taking level 18's through Arathi to get to Shadowfang Keep would probably be better served on the aliance version of this mount. A better example would be taking a level 15 though Duskwood or Stranglethorn to get to The Deadmines. As you can tell I'm 100% nub at aliance. Had to have someone explain to me who "Hogger" was.

Isn't there supposed to be an option to kick people from your mount anyway?

Do they stay on the mount once you leave the group?
Or is there no other way to kick people from the mount except resummoning?

When you are on a multi-passenger mount, you will get a little picture of the mount near your mini-map. Right click the dot of the person you want to dismount, and you should have an eject option.

When lowbies beg for a ride, pop a water walking potion and take them out passed the fatigue line and let them die a few times swimming back. (evil, yes. funny to do to annoying beggers, also yes)

Just as a heads-up for potential buyers:

Despite previous comments on this page, this mount works the same as all the other mammoths size-wise. It will NOT fit into many of the doorways in Dalaran, or any other doorways that the other mammoth's are too large to fit into. After reading above comments I made the decision to buy this over a motorcycle because it was cool and would fit through the doorways... The above statements were incorrect :P Just wanted to let anyone know who was thinking of buying this with the impression that it fit into those doorways.

Hi I recently purchased sons of hodir commendation badges to get my rep from hated to exalted, however i can't find Lillehoff and have been told you need to do daily quests to be able to find him. This will however put my rep back down to hated, can anyone help me out and let me know if this is true?

This mount was originally NOT going to be on the list of account-wide mounts in Mists of Pandaria. However, a decision was quite recently made to change this:
