I got mine from a Proto-Whelp, not the Hatchling, but they are in the same area, Ember clutch.

It dropped in 4 kills. So it would seem that the drop rate is very nice, as long as you have the quest Shipment: Intricate Bone Figurine

I got mine first kill off of a whelp in Ember Clutch. Super easy daily. :)

Yep, drops off the "Proto-Drake" but for me i had to get on my flyer, fly up, fly INTO the mob, aggro it, then fly to the ground again, THEN kill it. They fly around UP IN THE AIR, it took me a little while to figure out how to get em down.

If you need this, you are in Dalaran and can fly, then the closest mobs are Blighted Proto-Drake. If you have no luck there (others are farming), Stormpeak Hatchling are not much further.

These Jewelcrafting daily quest things are incredibly rare if you don't already have the quest. Be glad if one of these things drops for you, but it's a waste of time to try and purposefully farm them.

Like any other quest drop... it will drop if you do not have the quest however you cannot see it. none of the jewelcrafting daily quest drops are any where a low drop rate as depicted on this site. their numbers are based on total kills not on just kills with the quest

Storm Peak Hatchlings are the quickest ones to kill for this quest item. Just fly to K3, then fly north to the top of the really high mountain.

I got mine from the Drakes in Sholazar Basin, over near where you do the Post-Partum Agression quest. They are about level 75-76 and I got mine on about the 4th kill. Happy hunting.

Just did this today...much easier then i thought !

Couldn't get any range on the proto drakes in the sky...

So I slayed 2 proto dragon eggs, which hatches a proto whelp...

Upon killing the second whelp I got my proto dragon bone... how good is that !

I'm a little puzzled as to why this drops off most every other Proto-Drake in the game except the Savage Proto-Drakes in Ymirheim.

Well I do know about a glitch where ur flagged as being in a raid and you may not be which will negate the dropping of any quest item all you got to do it type /raidx according to gm this will remove you from any raid grp u may be assigned to

Note: Although the drop rate for Proto Dragon Bone seems to be very low when you check the %'s you have to keep in mind the item is only available to drop if your on the JC daily, so its actually a fairly decent droprate from almost all the dragon's as long as your actually making sure your farming one of the ones from the "Dropped By" tab.

This is bugged - sort of - 'cause it doesn't drop from proto-drakes in Icecrown (around central Vrykul village). They even have 'proto drake' in their name.

I did this daily today and it seems its been changed. Its now a sun crystal and dark jade to make the Intricate Bone Figurine.

The best place fer me to get this is off of Blighted Proto-Drakes. Reason being is I can farm Chilled Meat while I'm at it.

Respawn for the Blighted Proto-Drake stinks. You are far better off Farming Stormpeak Hatchlings if you are trying to complete the JC daily during busier server times. Just fly into aggro w them and land.

I have lost 1 hour of my life killing mobs for this item,then HS-ed to Dala looked at Bank and found it there.

The quickest, and by far, easiest way to get the item is to go to the Storm Peaks. There is a mountain north of K3 where there are a bunch of blue proto drakes, and baby proto drakes. the easiest thing to do is gather all the baby drakes up and aoe them down. I am a shaman so I just use Magma Totem and Fire Nova. I usually end up getting the bone the 1-2nd loot.

Got one off the welps in HF on the first one I killed. Great location for lower level JC who want to do dalies (level 69 hunter atm)

I have also gotten these items to drop off the plagued proto-dragons in halgrind, but theres far fewer mobs there

The best way to obtain it for low 70s without flying is the proto-whelps at Ember edge (Howling fjord) imo.

Best place for me from Dalaran is the mountain with the Stormpeak Wyrm, there are multiple of them in the air and easy to pull.
I take more gems with me to craft more questitems and they can be put down into the bank when crafted on site (you can loot just 1 bone, but carry multiple finished quest items).
