Edit: It gives a random WotLK potion effect and it shares the cooldown with all other potions, including the healing/mana potions. This is what an Alchemist should use when they don't have cooldown on potion and also don't need mana.
While mana users are usually high dependents on mana potions non-mana users like Warriors, Feral druids, Rogues and Death Knights can consider using this every 2 min over any other potion (except the healing one in critical moments). Probably on trashes or easier fights warlocks can consider using this too as long as the healers are ok throwing few heals when they are using Life Tap.

I tested the potion with my mage on the beta realm with build 8788.

So far i've found the following procs from these pots.
It also happened during combat that nothing at all happened when chugging down one of these pots. Only happens when in combat, I tried 5 times, 5 times nothing. Might be a bug, reported it at least.

Puts an undispellable debuff on you that regens
2520 mana and health every second for 3 seconds (with the alchemist stone on)
This thing always seems to happen when you are lower on health and mana then when on full health and mana.

A buff that grants you 60 spellcrit and 180 spellpower for 15 seconds.

After about 20 pots i've come to the conclusion at least for now that there are only 2 effects right now for this potion. Described above. Please feel free to add any discovery about these when you can.

I rather prefer the cheap rejuvenation potion that we get with the BC alchemist potion and an elixir buff over "small chance at worthwhile potion or nothing happening." It is, however, in beta, so I expect it to change once enough people whine about it.

I made a whooole lot of these because they only take 2 Goldclover to make (which is all over the place) and stays orange skill for a long time. I plan on popping them as much as possible seeing as I have about 40 of them.

I have tested these extensively on my warrior and these are my results:

Out of combat, you are typically buffed by a Haste effect (15 seconds, 500 Haste Rating) above 80% health. Below 80% health, you are given the Nightmare Slumber buff (1800 Health/Mana every 2 seconds for 6 seconds, 3 ticks, modified by Alchemist's Stone). The slumber effect is broken by any damage taken.

In combat, and above 50% health, you are given the Haste effect. Between 20% and 50% health, you receive a Healing effect identically to a Runic Healing Potion (2700 to 4500 random heal).

Below 20% health and in combat, you receive the same Healing effect as above, plus a Speed buff (identical to Swiftness Potion), movement speed increased by 50% for 15 seconds.

My analysis is that they are useful as replacements for Runic Healing Potions, and Potion of Speed. They should be slightly cheaper to make, and if you happen to have been "topped off" by a heal right as you go to use the potion, you get a DPS buff instead. These effects are nothing amazing, but if Goldclover becomes the "Felweed" of Northrend, then I won't complain.

EDIT: As of 3.1, this potion acts completely different. From what I have tested, it will always restore the health and mana listed in the tooltip, then will give a random potion effect which can be +crit or +haste for 15 seconds, +armor for 2 minutes, the equivalent of a Runic Healing Potion or a Runic Mana Potion (only if you have mana), and probably other effects. I've also had some give no extra effects at all, but that could be because I don't have a mana pool and it tried to proc the Runic Mana Potion.

I haven't tested extensively since the randomness of the extra effect leaves this potion useless for melee. I basically used them as cheap Haste Potions pre-3.1, which cost less and also healed you, but now they seem to really only be worthwhile for mana users, if at all.

i was thoroughly disappointed in these given that my alchemist is a hunter. i used probably about 15 and only saw two effects - the "nightmare slumber" one when i was low on health/mana and the wild magic one when i wasn't.

first of all, the sort of situations where you'd want some sort of 15 second buff effect and the sort where it would be safe/acceptable to be out of commission for six seconds tend to be *very* different. it's not often that you'd be ok with getting either type of reaction from this potion.

also, someone needs to explain to blizzard that although some classes with mana bars would LOVE a destruction pot effect (which is even nice for healers because of the spell power change), melee-type hybrids with mana bars (ret pallies, enhance shammies) only get limited benefit from a spell power + spell crit boost and hunters get NO benefit at all as we don't have any abilities that are affected in any way at all by "caster" stats.

the only people to report getting a haste buff were a warrior (no mana bar), kitty druid (no mana bar) and for some reason a resto shaman (not sure where that fits into theories on how the proc is determined, lol). mage, priest and hunter all reported seeing nightmare slumber or destruction potion. no one without a mana bar has reported getting hit with the dreamless sleep buff (slash debuff >.>). some from both groups reported a runic healing potion effect when low on health.

this potion certainly favors some classes over others (seriously, 80% or so rate on getting "wild magic" on my hunter) and is likely to cause trouble for anyone with a mana bar whereas those with rage/energy/runic power don't have to worry about being put to sleep for 6 seconds. a "rejuvenation" potion effect would be much better than dreamless sleep for mana users but apparently they'd rather give us a hps + mana restoration effect that has a downside to it.

i sincerely hope they reconsider their criteria for determining what buff you get when... otherwise i'm just gonna keep farming up ragveil to make the BC alchemist potions since they're obviously designed a lot better.

Who is going to gamble on the 2-3 most frequent effects?

Mad Alchemist's Potion was a certain - you got a cheap Restoration Potion plus the chance of a buff. A pretty good addition to a profession that brought little else in the way of BoP advantages.

Better to rename it "cheap alchemist's levelling potion"

I seem to have a thought on this. Its according to what skills you use and how your health and mana looks.

say this your high on Health and Mana and you white damage. you get a haste effect.
You use a mana using effect you get the destruction effect
you get low on life and you get the health one and the mana one when your low on mana.

It does difffer as to how you look at the time.

SO to the post above about the hunter geting the destructon effect did you just white damage or did you arcane shot or something.

well i'm about to use my 4th research cooldown and still haven't gotten this recipe. Guess i'm beyond the "less lucky" category.

A friend has it however and made me 2 stacks to play with. It seems to attempt to be "smart" and use what you need it to be when you need it. For myself however, a warlock, it never seems to give me the mana i really need when i'm at 10% on a boss fight. I don't find this nearly as useful as the old mad alchie pots.

Mad Alchemists Potion healed AND gave you another flask/elixir buff. Not to mention they were cheap as hell to make.

EDIT - Seems Blizzard listened to me and it's now a much better version of Mad Alchemists Potion.

I, too, would rather use the mad alchemist's potions at this point than these 'upgrades'. Not even in the situations where I desperately needed the healing effect did I get it. The buffs are very temporary, don't benefit from our doubled elixir timers, and simply don't give you that very cheap edge that Alchemists had in TBC. Even if these potions would grant a heal AND a potion effect, which at this point in time is not the case, their use is rather limited. Hopefully, they'll revise this item a bit.

As a tank who typically already runs flasked, and whose health oscillates between 20% and 100% in the blink of an eye, the design of this potion is very, very appealing.

I'm mainly curious to know if they are predictable enough to use in raids. I just did my 3rd research and still haven't gotten it, so I haven't tried them out.

These seem to not do anything at all in combat for me quite often. I'm thinking a specific mana ranged is bugged (75%-100%?).

Has anyone playing a class that doesn't use a mana bar have problems with nothing happening?

Im tempted to make some as a rogue, for the 500 haste effect. Cheaper than haste pots.

do they cause the POT debuff btw?

And btw, i have been 450 alchy for a few weeks now, and done the discovery recipe every week (bout 4-5 times now) and i still havnt learnt this.

Just wanted to add the old mad alchemist pot would grant a random elixir effect that WOULD NOT take away any flask buff you would allready have. Mad alchemist is still way better imo that this very discutable ''upgrade''

There are 12 elixirs/potions to discover at least so if you dont have it after 4 or 6 tries, don't count yourself unlucky just yet.

Changed the Crazy Alchemist Potion so it always gives health and mana. It also grants the benefit of another random potion effect.

So yeah. Now finally Crazy Alch pot is a cool upgrade of the old MAD one. Does the same, gives more hp/mana and gives pot effect, so its useful when you are flasked! Aye :)

this potion is crap now.. i used to use these for speed pots because i could pop one before combat starts and use about 10sec of speed before i lost the buff then be able to pop another one during the fight.

now it doesnt give anything at the start except mana that im full of. and during the fight it will give me something useless like increased armor..
was doing patch 25 and popped one at 95% mana and it gave me frost protection potion buff. useless

i play a boomkin and increased armor doesnt do jack for me in pve. i want it back to what it was. where i knew what i would get from it based off what percent mana and hp i had. i dont want to spend tons of gold to make speed pots.

this is just another shaft to alchemy

Even if it doesn't stack with the stone, their utility is maximized when in the hands of a lock (with the exception of possible undesired side effects). Our health and mana pools more or less act as a single pool, so as long as you can calculate on the fly you can throw off spells, life tap until the health gain max would top you off, and you effectively have a pot that restores 7300-8600 mana.

I tried one out for the heck of it in the AH and got ARCANE PROTECTION. In a raid earlier today I got the Indestructible Potion effects. I have also got the effects from Potion of Speed in raids before, more useful to my Rogues DPS.

After using literally hundreds and hundreds (maybe even thousands) of these, I have never seen it proc Nightmare Slumber. My best guess as to why some people are reporting it is that they are testing it out of combat and the proc will not occur in combat (as I've never felt the need to use one out of combat).
