new Meta gem found in 2.4. The +2% Intellect part especially is a bit underwhelming, A well geared caster raid buffed has about 550 Int, he would gain 11 Int by using this gem.

The already existing Spell Damage Metas are both superior imo even though their effect only has a situational benefit that you probably won't even notice when it does end up helping out. (having 165 extra mana is a very situational benefit too though)
Imbued Unstable Diamond +14 Spell Damage & 5% Stun Resistance.
Swift Starfire Diamond +12 Spell Damage and Minor Run Speed.

Bit disappointing for classes that scale poorly with Spell Crit and Haste. This ought to give -2% Threat like the healing gem or +2% Damage to DoTs as an equivalent to the +3% Crit damage meta.

This gem is only good for non-healing classes with 1.5s casts that can't crit... Well, I guess since this comes out with 2.4, then MSD will reduce the GCD, so this would only be better for 1s casts and instants. Much better :)

Although 2% int is not the greatest, for a raiding mage who puts 12 spell damage gems in every slot, we meet the requirements for this gem easilly. I don't have the math for the added damage a chaotic or mystical skyfire will give but its possible that this meta may be useful for mages.

Right now (Feb 15, 2008) on PTR the MSD has been nerfed to give a flat haste bonus of 320, which is a signifigant decrease in power from 50% cast speed. It's noticably underwelming. This gem may well become the default shadow priest gem, at least the prereqs are easy to meet.

While other classes might not see too much benefit from this gem, it does seem well suited to PvE Moonkins, who will gain a number of talented benefits from the extra Int, including making it about equivalent to a +17 damage gem. However, I am still not sure if it would be better than Chaotic Skyfire.

VERY nice for shadow priests - especially those who have no reason to use yellow/blue gems as they have enough HP and are hitcapped.

This is a very hot gem for a moonkin druid, along with current ones.
14 spell damage is pretty hot, better than the 12 spell damage existing ones.
2% intellect isn't a ton, but moonkins have plenty of talents to benefit from it, more spell damage, and regen, and in 2.4 more regen from spirit because of intellect.
With 500 int for the sake of easy math, that's 10 int.
My moonkin currently uses a 12int/mana restore gem in her engi hat, but this one would easily replace it. 14dmg/10 int is very nice. Compared to the crit gems, I am unsure. Still, this is a very nice meta, with even easier requirements. Any caster with socketed gear should have 3 reds!

this gem is also superb for arcane mages

if you intelect at lvl 70 is 750 its approximately +5 spell dmg with Mind Mastery tallent
It's also cool becouse red gems gives spell dmg :)

This gem is great in the optics of a moonkin. 14 spell dmg is great, and 2% int means roughly 8-10 int for most of us. With boomkin talents we get from it 2.5 more spell dmg, and around 2 crit rating, as well as the 1 mana/5(for those pve moonkins) and the 150 extra mana.

Make the calculations and it,s the best gem for us so far.

I am remplacing the 12 spell dmg + run speed one for it, and gonne get rid of 12 stam on boots to have 9 stam + run speed! :)

For any casters concerned with long-term mana conservation the insightful ES might provide a better choice. The intel gain is roughly the same if you are a raid-equipped and buffed caster.

In terms of dps the Ember SF is superior in my opinion, especially for shadow priests, boomkins and some mages. Not to mention the pure-dmg friendly gem requirements.(3red)

Going with this meta in S4 gear for my warlock. The requirements are very nice, since I'm mostly gonna socket with spell damage (5x 12 spell damage and 3x 10 resilience) and it's easy to get rather than the 14 spell damage 5% stun resist one (https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=32641), which of course would be better if it didin't take all that fuss to get.

What about for a holy pally? I currently use Insightful earthstorm diamond. I was playing around with Rawr 15.1 and it has the Ember Skyfire diamond as the top meta for HPS. Next in line is Bracing earthstorm then insightful. I just wanna know if its worth changing my meta gem to the Ember or if Rawr is way off base.

I will use this on my brutal head to my PvP warlock.

I just have red gems (+12 spell damage) and this meta its the only one who requries only red ones

For a UA lock which would be better the swift starfire diamond (https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=28557/quickened-starfire-diamond) which gives +12 spell damage and 8% run speed boost which is essentially free or this one which has a +2 spell damage increase and +2% intellect?

i would have to say that at the stage of pre kara or just plain low int this gem only gives you very little bouns but when you have aroung 800 intelect raid buffed it can give you 16 and as it is % based it will scale with gear forever and the better you do the better it is im not going to say that it will be good post bc but when we all have 1500 int un buffed this will be even stronger
