IF it hits every 8 seconds, that would be 83 DPS -- not bad for a food buff. Realistically, it would probably only proc once a minute....

Quite nice for a small amount of extra threat-generation. The ranged component can be particularly useful for Warriors and Bear-tanks. It'll allow them to generate a small level of AOE threat, similar to a Pally's Consecration.

It's only 53 to 67 damage. But it may also help change the mind of an undecided mob, who has just left melee range, and headed toward your healer.

These things quite literally BBQ critters. In testing it tonight after getting the recipe, I hit critters in Outland for anywhere just above or below 700 damage. However, I don't expect this to bring a whole lot of extra threat to the party in dungeons and whatnot, it seems to only hit mobs for about 20-30 nature damage. Basically cosmetic critter frying.

/edit: Apparently it can crit as well... One of my procs this afternoon hit a rabbit in Goldshire for over 1600 damage.

Just how rare is it to get this? Most of the chefs in my guild have already gotten theirs, but the only recipes I have gotten are Kibler's Bits and the talbuk one. Since then it's just been meat. Maybe you have to have cooking maxxed in order to receive it? My cooking's only 368...

I think the special effect in the rain is that lightning will strike twice in a row. It was raining in Azshara, so I rode everywhere looking for a critter. Had to settle for a Mosshoof Courser.

yeah those crits on lvl1 critters are just awsome, but in normal world it deals like ~200 DMG on lvl71-72, first target, less to others ofc, and it is great for no CC tanking :)

Western Plaguelands is the best place to fish Lignthning Eel. Use the UC portal in Shat, then a short mount run to The Bulwark. I assumed that you are Hordie, sry Allies.

Another great use for this is farming the bog giants etc in the dead mire... as they tend to roam in groups it helped me pull aggro (unintentionally) and made pulling groups of 5/6 at a time a lot easier when farming primal life. If you're boosting on a run in SM Cat it would be hella funny running around with this on. Oh, and ofc there are lots of critters there too.

I've been doing daily cooking quests for months. Shattrath and now Dalaran...every day. If I miss any its the Shattrath one maybe once a week..but its rare.

I have yet to get either the Stormchops recipe or the Chocolate Cake one. They need to up the drop rate on things like this or make it so that these don't need to be cooked for the achievments. This is about the most frustrating thing I've dealt with in this game.

I just leveld cooking from 286 to 400 in 4 hours and released i couldn't train it further because I need more cooking rewards hust opend my first bag of spice and the recipie was in it didn't know the drop rate was that low. good luck to the unfortunate

So...I've been doing the Dalaran cooking daily since roughly January of this year. That's about 9.5 months of spice bags. So that's what, nearly 270-300 spice bags? Not one Stormchops.

Let's add to that the fact that I have -also- been doing the Outland cooking daily for about 4 months. That's another 120 crates of fish or meat and still no Stormchops.

You would think that with nearly 400 potential bags I'd have gotten Stormchops by now.

No, I have not.

And no, it's not in my recipes. hehe I've checked multiple times. Even my husband has checked.

At this point I would LOVE for Blizzard to just -give- me the recipe. I'm sick of doing these dailies over and over. Stormchops is the -last- Outland recipe I need for my achievement. The absolute last.

I keep thinking of giving up, but I don't think I can. I really want to complete my "Chef" achievement. Please, RNG, be nice to me soon!

Question:.. If you're not in BG and a PVP mob is near, Will this 'attack' them? I am reading how it gets stealthed and also rabbits? so if a PVP'd mob walks by in a neutral area (Ratchet, Booty Bay, or maybe even Dal or Shat) , I'm assuming that this may just strike them also?

RNG is a unfair and outdated mechanic that really needs to be revised. I literally got this recipe on my very first cooking daily I've ever done for any character, while people such as some above have been working hard at it for many months. Like others here, I've been doing dailies in both Outland and Northrend for months and nothing. It's the only thing I'm waiting for to get the achievement. Yes, I did check my recipes and I don't have it.

For the people who got it, did you get it in barrel of fish or crate of meat? Does that make a difference (I take the opposite every day and still nothing)

I got this at my 4th rokk's dailies day!

I was very lucky on this side, if the drop rate is right, because from it it could take from 40 to 120-160 days to get it; instead I think I won't be so lucky with the other very rare recipe, the cake, it's the only one missing so far.

Ah, by the way, I got this from the crate of meat, for sure; the first days I always chose that.

Very wierd. This recipe and Skullfish Soup recipe were the only two that I had left to do about a year or so ago for the Outland Gourmet. I got sick of trying to get the dumb things and gave up. I checked my recipes today, and for some reason they are there. No idea why. Seems to me that they may have popped up at the cooking trainer a few months ago, and I just trained them without even realizing it, but I'm not sure.

Looks like Stormchops and Cake recipes drop was boosted (finally) today. Think there was some quick fix applied during night and got both recipes right after daily reset, one from Dalaran daily, 2nd from Outland daily. Was farming them for last 2 months, every day.

I just wanted to say this: I pretty much gave up trying to get this. I didn't even test out whether or not the trick or treating would drop the recipe. I just logged onto my druid yesterday which I haven't logged on for longer than a month (this was the toon I was trying to get the recipe for) and I decided to try the Rokk's cooking daily just for the hell of it. It just so happened I saw Jesus that day and He was present in the stormchops recipe that finally dropped from the crate of meat. There is a god out there! I try for several months straight and give up and decide randomly one day to try for the hell of it and on the one day I don't care, it happens to drop. I have my chef title now. RNG drops are always a pain in the ass, and it seems that if you have no expectations or care about it, your time spent trying to get it to drop goes by a lot more smooth. Don't give up people. Keep trying to get it. Expect months of attempts before you get it if you don't already conveniently have it in your recipes. And no selling it in the past has no effect. I did that years ago and eventually got it to drop yesterday. Bite the bullet and keep trying to get it. Good luck to all! (you're gonna need it to get this recipe to drop)

For the crate of meat, I did the math. 2% chance of getting it is about doing the daily 50-51 times. But sadly I've done Rokk's daily way more than that, as well as I do the Dalaran dailies every day and it's never dropped from the spice bag. I've opened roughly 350 spice bags. I don't have the recipe, it's the last thing I need for the Chef title.

Word of warning - the lightning effect is AOE so it'll break any CC that's near you when it cooks off.

I think the percentages that are posted for this item are too high. I've done both quests over 100 times each and still haven't seen the recipe. I even asked a GM to see if it was still in the inventory. He assured me that it is. Guess I'll have to do each another 100 times and see if I get lucky enough to have it drop.

stormchops proc about every 20 secs and nice DPS spell buff as it ups spell damage by 95 for 10secs,

The eels are actually very easy to get. Just fish outside Kara. You'll also get the fish the other new recipe needs. This is a fun little buff, but the damage it does its pretty low (about 50-100 per hit). Then again, it procs a lot and chains to all local targets, so is probably good tank food if you are dealing with something like the slimes in the SH sewers.

my observations -

Tried this morning 5-9am server time. In 3 hours spanning Feralas, Felwood, Kara, Moonglade ( 0 ) of these eels.

Tried again at 2pm server time.

10mins in Feralas- (3) eels
10mins in Kara- (1) eel
10mins in Felwood (6) eels

Dont fish the fishing nodes- these wont popup (as they are not on coastal waters, only inland bodies of water)

My Fishing is still a bit low for Kara waters (330) so i missed alot of fish even with 120+ fishing on my 260 skill. Kara could be as good as Felwood, but for me, now, Felwood is the hot spot.

The recipe is a random reward from the cooking daily quest, which is obtained from The Rokk in Lower City at 61, 16. You can randomly get the recipe from either the Barrel of Fish or the Crate of Meat.

been hopping back and forth between chosing fish & meat crates. so far I only got the recipe for kibblers bits and the spicy talbulk, both from crates of meat.

It also seems that 80% of the cooking quests involve meat, so usually my mats for my next quest are in that crate :)

I used (pre-BC) to be able to fish up lightning eel pretty regularly in the hot springs in winterspring. Is that no longer the case?

I think you need to be lvl 70 because some of the areas you're required to go to to get the ingredients are high lvl areas. A lvl 62 is gonna get pwned in Skettis trying to kill the giant birds...duhhh.....

I have 2 toons both lvl 70 and 375 cooking and fishing. I have one that takes Fish reward and one takes the meat reward daily. It doesnt matter what the daily quest is the drop u get is random. I have done this quest from the day they started and still dont have this one or the bloodfin recipe so its just a matter of luck =( I do have all the other ones.

hey rogues, when you sap, quite often a bolt of lightning will shoot out along with your sap, thus giving away your position.

that aside, i love this new food. it procs like crazy and i get anywhere from 33 to 3300 extra damage every couple of seconds ... usually an average of 250-350 though.

it's great in pvp and it helps me farm stuff alot quicker too :)

be careful not to eat another buffing food though, as it could get expensive to keep accidentally debuffing this one

Having tested this out on the willing Talbuks around Garadar, the proc rate is approximately 1 zap every 6-10 seconds, and deals damage that is reduced by the level of the creautre in question. The zaps were doing about 20-30 damage to the talbuks, but the toads near the water were being fried for around 660, critting for over 1300 on one occasion. I can see this getting great use in low level dungeon boosts to add extra AOE damage for melee classes.
