Great Hunter Bow, goes great with the Arrows of Time, adding raw stats to it would be insane, but its On successful melee or ranged attack gain 8 mana and if possible drain 8 mana from the target. is great, works good in PvE, yet a little weak in PvP against certain classes.

Is this superior to the Merciless Gladiator's Crossbow for Trolls for PvP? It lacks resilience and stamina, but the effect seems invaluable to the Hunter's role of depleting the enemy's mana in 5v5 in addition to the increased DPS.

There is a bug when using Misdirection with this weapon. The mana drain effect will use one charge of misdirection so you end up only using two shots. This is going to be fixed in 2.3 patch.

Since the 2.3.2 as a BM due to the change of GCD server side and the fix of the "!" atribute, this bow will out DPS Wolfslayer by using the 2:3 rotation.

This bow is now bugged by scatter shot mobs or players who have mana.
The draining mana effect will stop the scatter effect.
In pvp against mana users, scatter shot will only stop their casting instead of scatter them for 3 secs.
Wonder when this is going to be fixed.

I agree with tokshar this seems it would be great for arena drain teams. not only do you constantly drain them you heal that extra bit of mana that we always seemed to need. And if you say this sucks next to the s3 bow because of the stats. All your other gear should have pvp stats. ranged weap stats are not gonna be much of a difference. but it's only worth it if you go with the drain team. otherwise s3

As of 2.4 Rogues and Warriors cannot use this weapon for PvP any longer. As the Proc was nerfed to just Ranged attacks, And as a rogue who has one it is quite frustrating to see them nerf what was a great PvP item. Why shouldn't PvE'ers have the availability to items that have a specific use in PvP?

Excellent for any beast mastery build as well. Much better in PvE than badge bow.

BMs gain the +20% attack speed directly from talents, which means +20% more auto- and steady shots fired, thus the proc keeps mana coming.

With current haste gear I've 243 haste rating, which makes the bow even faster. Worth 50 MP5 easy with haste like that! Also, it is slower than the badge bow, which makes this better with high haste.

Downrating all comments saying the badgebow is better than the BotB is rubbish tbh. 0,2 seconds is a lot more important to a BM hunter than 2 dps and you're also giving up 14 hit, 16 crit and 6 AP. Steady shot is also normalised to 2.80. The badgebow is simply better off the bat and on top of that you're wasting tons of haste that could be put to better use by swapping to the badgebow.

It might have some merit if you're extremely hard pressed on mana or if you're using a 3:2 rotation with 4-set, but as Hauraki pointed out, you should be using the Bristleblitz in that case.

Do some research, look at parses, download Cheekys spreadsheet and stop being blinded by the looks and itemlevel. Don't make misinformed posts about this bow and please stop the pointless downrating. Things are not allways what they seem in the world of TBC BM hunting, especially when looking at weapon speeds. There is a reason Thoridal got changed from 3.00 to 2.70.

Upon doing several test between The Striker and the Black Bow I have concluded the following...

In BG's this bow will be major ownage as its the highest damage tied with the Striker, Only two classes DONT use mana...

In PVE, Your shots grant you up to the fact of atleast 40+ Mana per 5 Seconds...allowing less down time, more Rape...

Raids, You pump out 258252 shots, you gain 2958252 Mana...This practically doubles your mana pool! Maybe even more!

For Rouges the Striker is slightly better as Mana regen is useless vs them as they are Leather...

Warriors, Mana Regen is SHW33T! As they most likely go into Prot Form or stack themselves with armor so by the time you hawk aspect they have a good amount of HP left and your oom, This allows you to hawk/viper aspect own a warrior and have mana left-over to own another, Or even have enough mana to kill the 20K HP 18K Armor Damage Soaking machine charging at you at the speed of a pregnant Elekk...

From the two incredible epic bows at end game, this one I would let the beast mastery hunters have. The mana regen combined with the fast pumping howitzer shots means our damage will be sustained for so much longer.

I am not saying that all hunter builds cannot use this weapon, buy my preference is that when it drops for us, it will probably go to our beast mastery hunters before our SV hunters.

If I were SV hunter I would hold out for the Bristleblitz Striker as the crit rating meams more chance to have an exposed weakness on our target, and the stamina gets the talent buff as well. But again, any hunter build can use either of these bows.

Again, I stress that these weapons can be used by either spec, it will, ofcourse, come down to personal preference at the end of the day, what you can get, and what stats you prefer to have. The stats from either of these weapons shouldn't be sniffed at, but do think about weighing the gains of either to your build.

for all those people who haven't lvled past lvl 60 stop talking trash this bow is hunter only just because there is no other bow useing class that has mana. and because hunter is ranged so rogues and war take you fancy swords and polearms but keep your hands of this. and hunters take this and only take the 2-3 melee weps that have the stats for us.

This bow is the most efficient for BM Hunters, as they will get extra attack speed from imp aoth and Serpent's Swiftness --> more shots more mana.And rogues and warriors should never get this bow, just because for rogues throwing weapons are better for pvp and there are ;multiple green bows that are better than this one,as rogues and warriors want stats, not ranged damage.The 26 ap is minor amount,compared to some other bows/guns/throwing weapons.

not necesarily true i raid 41/20 but also have a macro that does it all and i do #1/2 dps in my raids so bm is pretty good for PvE if you know how to use it

Why do people keep lumping rogues (not rouges, god l2spell) and warriors into wanting this bow? It's horrible for wars and rogues seriously, no stam a equip effect that is useless for both classes and only 26 AP. Any warrior or rogue with this bow really needs to review what his/her class needs.

Rogues/Warriors yes it drains mana...But WTF? The speed on this thing is 3.00...Your going to sit there shooting a mage with 400 damage shots and do 800 damage while he Pyroblast you and then PWNS you?

A Hunter drains atleast 50 mana per 5 second and gains Mana...

Sunfury Bow...Because if your at Black Temple you probably can afford a Ninja-looting Sunfury bow and It offers way more Attack Power...

Its a game. This is a bow. How did this turn into a bash MM or BM hunters and who does more damage in what spec? Im 41/20 BM/MM. LTP screw that just have fun and play how you want. I like my pet so I put all I have into my pet and enjoy it. I dont have the best gear and never will. LTP? Learn to live outside of WOW.

Any poor fool stupid enough to roll need on this weapon and IS NOT A %^&*ING HUNTER should be either banned or burned at the stake. this is clearly a Mana regen bow. Do warriors have mana? NO! Do rogues have mana? NO! Do mages use bows? NO! and so forth until we reach the hunter class... Do hunters use a bow and mana? YES!

Umm while I hate jumping into the middle here, I play both a rogue and a lock. I've played them both PvP and PvE.

My lock at lvl 51 has over a 4k mana pool, and her equipment is getting old. So good luck with depending on that being a factor. You do try to buff stam for PvP but you don't neglect int either or you're not effective.

As a rogue you hit fast, stun, and rip to pieces. DPS+gouge/kidney shot is your best friend. ESPECIALLY on a lock. Lemme tell ya, if I have 15 seconds to live... that's way more than kidney shot lasts and quite simply you will be quite dead if you haven't killed me. I'm affliction specced and that is way too long to let a lock live to do something like a mana drain. It's just not gonna be effective, even in PVP, as a way to survive the battle for a rogue. Most locks have ways to restore or buff mana depending on spec and items as well.

Mana also can't return TO you in any useful form - you're better going for stat based thrown or ranged that buffs atk power, agil/crit, stam, and not worry about something that is well over 50% useless.

It's EXACTLY what has been told here a million and one times already... do you lot even read what's being posted any further then the last two or three posts? do you not see many others already stated exactly the same as you stated? Gnome Rogue here... I actually have this thing since yesterday.
Hey, I only saved it from being disenchanted, I even put a +1 dmg scope on it!

Of cause I only wear it in Shat for bragging, since it has no use in any other situation. Maybe... oh, I think I'm gonna make some horde hunters turn green in envy in the BGs sometime soon.

I can finally say hunter weapon without a ton of people yelling at me!

Anyways, a funny lil story about a my raid last night:

We finally downed Illidan last night on our 3rd try :D

He dropped Black Bow of the Betrayer which was like a dream come true for me (as a hunter :P). Our guild leader said "All who NEED this, /roll for it now". So, me and the other hunter roll on it. I roll 58, the other hunter rolls 43, and then someone else rolls on it. It's a rogue and he rolls 93. Next thing I "<name of rogue*> has been kicked out of the guild by..." Its followed by a flurry of "ROFL OWNED" and the useual "LOL" and laughing on TS. The rogue must have been kicking himself because Cursed Vision of Sargeras dropped as well. That went to the hunter because no other leather wearing toons needed it in our raid group (many of the raiders have been here before as one of the main raiding guilds on our server disbanded, leaving many sunwell geared dudes guildless), and i had my T6 helm :).

*I said <name of rogue> because i don't want to reveal the rogues name due to privacy issues i've had to endure before.

so yea we downed illidan and i was the only hunter in the guild who did not have this i rolled for it and i thought i was good and stuff bout three seconds later i see ------------- rolls 89 and this was a warrior i almost threw my lap top out the window but i ended up with a 98 so i yelled at him he got kicked for attempted ninja'ing and i got my bow time ta start kicking some @ss
