if the spell reflect procs does it mean that if a mage pyroblast crits you for 7k that he will be one-shot by his own spell, or that it will reflect 1% of every spell?

Threw rigorous experimentation, ( And I do mean rigorous, at 1% this took forever. ) I have determined that the Spell Reflect does indeed reflect the spell fully back to the caster, and the damage it does is based on the original casters spell damage, and crit rating.

The Spell Reflect only happens 1% of the time. It does not, contrary to some rumor going arround, reflect 1% of the damage of every spell cast upon you.

This is an excellent Meta Gem, mainly for the Spell Crit rating. The Spell Reflect is neat, but do not under any circumstances rely on it for anything, You will only see it work once in a blue moon.

A mage casts 100 fireballs at you. You will reflect only one fireball back.

Basicly thats how it is. So if you pvp youll probably see if reflect once an hour or even more. which isnt that great. With all the rogues/warriors now a cloth class is better off with the 18sta 5%stun res.

From a PvE perspective this is quite good for any caster class, the spell reflect is just a novelty.

If you ask me this is a nice meta gem for a paly, since they rely on crits to get free heals and there are some nice +healing red gems =)

This got nerfed, not the effect, the requirement for 2.1.0.

It now requires 4 red/blue/yellow gems instead of 5 red.

Wondering if such a thing would work on raid bosses... Say Shade of Aran shoots a Frostbolt my way - Is it it possible to reflect it back at him?

I am a holy paladin, and as my favorite games in my reach (moneywise) are +9heal/+2mp5 and red+blue, i cannot get the healer-meta (too many blues).
Which leaves this as a nice alternative..

As far as i know, reflect does reflect single spells by throwing back, and AoE by just negating all their effects.
This was the case with Engineering Trinkets (tested by me), and i think ive been reading something like that from official sources as well

Guys excuse the ignorance/lack of knowledge, "first time in the desert". I'm unsure what I can do with my situation. I'm wanting to place this gem in my high warlord helm. I have the full PvP HWL and General set at 70 for my shaman. Its just there is only 3 red and 4 yellow sockets available to me in this scenario of gear. I'm wondering can I use a Green or Purple gem in 2 of the available red/yellow sockets to make up for the blue gem requirement? Just wanting some definite "yes's" before I do this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Else I guess i'll just have to settle for another meta gem that suits unfortunately :(

Another quick note for all you gem users:

You do not HAVE to use a red, purple, or orange gem in a red socket. You can easily use a green, yellow, or blue. Prismatic's work as well, as they count as red, yellow, and blue.

The only socket that must follow the rules is the Meta socket. Only meta gems fit. Socket bonuses rarely justify socketing by color, especially at 70.

Roughly (without additional spec based benifits from critically striking such as Nature's Grace or Clearcasting) the Destructive Skyfire diamond is better than the Relentless Earthstorm Diamond unless overall crit rating > aprox. 32.5%

By all means, anyone with the desire to do so, feel totally free to double check my math or to break it down cleaner and/or more precisely. I merely wanted a rough idea of which meta gem to go with.

the reflect works in similar way to the warriors reflect,so some bosses are immune to it....don't rely on the spell reflect it may happen and it may not.

It does reflect counter spell. I was in an arena last night and our mage suffered from his own counter spell on a paladin equiped with this meta gem. Not only did he not stop the paladin from healing but he took himself out temporarily. It was unfortunate and hilarious at the same time.

Hm, a thought comes to mind.
Would the effects of the destructive skyfire diamond stack with the sheen of zanza? (Well, the first offensive spell doesn't count, in my opinion, since that is 100% chance)
It would be pretty interesting if it did, but I do not have the reputation with the zandalar tribe, sadly, nor have I this meta gem (though I'm considering getting it) to test my theory.

I have had this reflecting my mana burns, not that fun imo.
Casting Mana burn = 355 mana,
Mana burned by the spell = around 1050 mana,
Damage from the mana burn = 500ish...
So by casting a 2.5 sec spell I loose 1400 mana and take 500 dmg, when it proccs.

This would be amusing to see a direct cast spell from a boss get reflected, though granted most bosses are immune to their own spell damage type this would be amusing.

this meta is BS, after dpsin down a warlock not only did i get my own moonfire to my face but the subsequent wrath cast aswell, NO HIDDEN CD after litterly saying "wtf a warlock can reflect?" i found this meta and will be using it in my S4 helm, cant wait.

So what's the difference between "+14 Spell Crit Rating" https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=25890 and "+12 Spell Critical" https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=34220 ???

Seems like the same thing, but is it really? If it is, I'd prefer the +3% increased crit damage over the 1% reflect.

I actually won a 2v2 game because of this gem....

My mage partner went down, and there was a mage/rogue on the opposing team.
both at about 15%.

The mage tried to sheep me, and sheeped himself. i was free to finish the rogue.
bandage and come back for the mage...

1% isnt something to count on, get it for crit.
but when it does proc. damn look out.

It says that it requires at least 5 red gems.

If i have 5 orange gems (fits yellow or red sockets)..4 of them in yellow sockets.

will i still be allowed to use the 1% reflect meta gem?

Multi-colored gems will count toward both of their colors when activating a meta gem. For example, a meta gem that requires 5 red and 5 yellow gems can be activated with 5 orange gems.

also:

* Multi-colored gems will match either of their colors when socketed. For example, an orange gem can be used to active an item bonus with a red or yellow socket.
* You can replace a gem already socketed in an item with another one, destroying only the gems you are replacing.
* A gem does not have to match its socket color to count toward a meta gems bonus.

i agree with above the way to get around allot of the requiremnts are to wear gems that are two colors at once. doing that you can wear just about anything

Bought this in AH this morning on my server for 180g. Been looking for it for a long time already but it simply never got offered in AH before. In my opinion this is the only interesting metagem for locks/mages to date. Hope some other nice metagems will be released soon.

Two side observations I've made in regards to it proc'ing:

It can proc regardless if you have some type of defensive shield on: PW:Shield, Mana Shield, Ice Barrier, etc.
It can reflect a spell thats already been reflected. (ie. you shoot a fireball at someone, they reflect it back @ you, gem procs and throw it back right at them) :)

The 1% spell reflect adds up (defensively) to 1% to completely avoid ANY spell (even Holy), plus resistances. Plus the added fun of reflecting pain to your caster enemy, and as an engineer, I've done that for a while XD.

Could this have a future as the meta of choice for tanking bosses with magic? I don't see any other metas that offer spell defenses, and a paladin tank won't be hurt any by that spell crit (Judgement Crits )

A few in-depth questions about spell reflect:

Channeled spells - can they be entirely reflected, not reflected at all or each tick can be reflected?

DoTs - I assume the initial application can be reflected, however, once it's on can you reflect specific ticks?

Pet spells - charm specifically, can a succubus charm herself, is it not able to proc reflect or will it proc to avoid the effect but have no effect back at its caster?

PPM - is there a proc per minute limit or if the gods so choose can this item proc from back to back spells?

AoE - can aoe spells be reflected and even more interestingly, can mass dispel be reflected?

Crowd control - in pvp, are there any forms of fear, stun, snare or silence that CANNOT be reflected?

Crit-based buffs - does a caster who gains buffs when crit receive those bonuses if you reflect the spell back and it scores a crit? does the reflector receive spell-crit buffs when reflecting a spell back to a caster for a crit?

Travel time - do spells that travel through the air before hitting the target still hit the original caster if they've since moved out of range after casting the spell?
