The droprate feels extremely low - usually it's higher than what is stated on wowhead due to quest drops only dropping when you're on the quest but I guess these guys don't get killed much outside of questing

Indeed, the droprate is extremly low, but i killed like 50 and got all 12/12 so it's not inpossible!

- Just a tip! - I killed Timer Worg Alpha around (62,52) and they dropped almost at every third Worg :)

you guys must've been pretty unlucky...or im just lucky but im doing the quest right now and theyre dropping most of the time ive only gotten 2 kills without one

I had one of the best drop chances. killed 25 and got them all, i guess maybe the low drop chance has been fixed in higher patches.

Got mine in 40 kills, mi2 says a 30% drop rate.
But had a period of 10-15 kills while they dropped no tails.

I've done this quest on two characters, and those are the only times I've killed these worgs.
I killed 57 Timber Worg Alphas and got 17 tails, a 29.8% droprate.
I killed 60 Timber Worgs and got 7 tails, an 11.7% droprate.

If I assume that the droprates here are true, meaning that the mobs only are killed by someone with the quest, I can calculate the chance of me randomly getting what I did:

Assuming a 14.63% droprate on Timber Worg Alphas, the chance of randomly getting 17 or more tails in 57 kills is 0.25%.
Assuming a 8.08% droprate on Timber Worgs, the chance of randomly getting 7 or more tails in 60 kills is 20.88%.

So I can be pretty sure(99.75% sure actually) that the droprate from Alphas is higher than the 14.63% that wowhead has recorded, but I can't be so sure about the Worgs.

I lost track after 60 or so of the Alphas. I definitely am not getting every third worg.

Seeing the droprate here, I went for killing Alphas. After a while I got fed up with it and went on my way to Allerian Stronghold to hand in some quests. On the way there, around 40,35, I decided to kill some normal Timber Worgs. To my surprise, almost every one of these dropped a tail. I went from 3 to 12 tails in minutes. I don't think I was extremely lucky, rather that the droprate here must be wrong somehow.
So I suggest trying your luck at 40,35 first :)

They seem to drop the most from the Timberworg Alphas around the Bonechewer ruins (specifically 64,50). I got lucky & had 3 in a row drop to complete the quest! Do this along with Unruly Neighbors to save yourself some time.

As another note, the skinning around this area can problably get your skinning to 375 super fast & make you some money too!

I wasn't as lucky as you, guys, because I seem to have gotten a tail every 10 kills or so. Well at least I leveled up when grinding these...

the drop rate for the tails is very lousy but if your patient and just want the xp go for it

lolz its just as likely to get one of those as it is to get the mount from Barom Rivendare like What the hell increase the drop rate or remove the freaking q.

Oh screw this! Im not killing 70+ mobs for 1 lousy quest. I can do 3 other quests in the same amount of time. CRAPPY QUEST BLIZZARD
Did some sick and twisted dev run amok in terrokar bobbing the tail off 85% of the worg here?
