Very simple to farm. Unfortunately, I believe that there are only about 6 of them (Shadowmancers) at a time. Fell for me on the 5th kill, and have heard similar from other Jewelcrafters.

Only problem is, it is not a very good ring. In fact all of the Khorium bands are pretty bad, because blizzard put mp5 on them. For healer rings mp5 is great, but for specific dps rings it is horrible. What does a shadow priest or warlock need with mp5, where it could have spell penetration or to hit instead?

The droprate shown by Wowhead doesn't take into account that since it is a BOP recipe, it will not drop unless there is a jewelcrafter in the party.

There are closer to a dozen shadowmancers up at a time maximum. The birds are beefy for their level, so if you can do the mount and divebomb kill that's the best way to go aside from simply grouping and clearing the entire place 'til it drops.

The ring itself is firstly a PVP ring, then a nice standin on fights where you need to pad stamina to get over a certain amount of hitpoints.

Took about 12 hours of farming Shadowmancers to get the plan, even got to the point where I thought maybe it didn't exist or was bugged on my server but it eventually dropped.

Do not farm this plan, you're better of farming gold and just getting someone to make it for you if you really need it. Trust me you'll thank me later.

OK first of all, one thing I really don't understand is when one person has a bad experience (eg. playconn) that it will take that long to drop for others. As you can see from the other posts, the droprate varies, some get it very quickly, some get it fairly quickly, and some get unlucky like you. Seriously, when I used to farm larval acids, sometimes I wouldn't get 1 drop for an hour, does that mean nobody should ever attempt to farm larval acids again?

If someone wants to grind for this item, go ahead, be aware that so far the droprate looks to be around 1%. Also note that you CAN have a good/bad stroke of luck, it doesn't automatically mean blizzard has changed the droprate just to piss you off.

Anyway, back on topic. This seems like a good ring for shadow priests/affliction locks, but I've heard that demo locks use fire a lot (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!). The sta works well for locks even in PvE because of the fact warlocks need health for mana. Lastly, I'm probably missing something here, but why is MP/5 considered bad, or at least not a good choice, for locks? They use mana a lot too.. or is it maybe the fact that they gain so much more from life tap?

Spent about three hours, and still no drop.

About the mana thing, as a demo lock, I do like plus mana items. Lifetap is only so good when there are no healers around, and in raids chances are healers are busy healing other healers and tanks. So, aside from health stones and drain life, which are not as great as a healers spells, I would rather not lifetap tons just to get some mana back.

/Agree.. being a healer shaman, my policy is concentrate on the tank and priests, and all others come second or third.. If a lock can get more mana w/o lifetap, it won't distract me from my main focus. As you all should know, distracting the healer is pretty high on the "you're bad" list.

Please note, when you run the two above instances, ONLY Jewel crafters will see the design when it drops, so you dont have to 'fight' non-JC'ers for the design. Drop rate is higher then reported by wowhead, or any other source, as it only drops if a JC'er is in the group and reporting to the site.

Dropped for me after 32 Kills..
And Thank God, these mobs of which it drops(Dark Conclave Shadowmancer) are qutie hard to farm, When you drop from above you aggro 2 mobs most of the time, a Skethyl Owl and the Shadowmancer himself.. The Shadowmancers aren't that tough(at least not for me, Sword specced Roguette lvl 70, but the Skethyl Owl's together are a hand full and sometimes you even aggro a third mob, one of those Ravenguard's..

298 kills til it dropped... killed 169 owls in that time, along with 95 arakkoa that aren't shadowmancers. Rough, but that's done now. :p

Well I finally got this. I spent an hour or so farming it one night when a warlock wanted it made but it never dropped. After that every week or so I would farm for about 10 minutes and get bored and ride off but finally at long last I got it. I realize that this doesn't really help anyone but I am just happy and want to celebrate with my jewel crafting friends.

Farming this design really isn't as easy as some people seem to be making out. I've spent over 6 hours farming and must have killed in the region of 300+ of the Shadowmancers with no drop as yet.

I was starting to believe that it may be reliant on the level of your character (e.g. must be level 70) or on your Jewelrycrafting skill level (e.g. must be over 365) or something along those lines. However, this seems extremely unlikely because the Design: Khorium Band of Leaves already dropped for my character at level 68 with 358 JC skill while I was questing.

Most likely the drop rate is much lower than people are describing, or they were very lucky or I've just been unlucky. Ah well, back to the grind...

Took me 25 kills. There are not only 6 mobs as some people have said, I found 14 of them (they all are in little nests or huts, never just walking around). Very easy to kill, 2-3 shot them all. If you just make a big circle through the SW area, up the path to where asghar patrols and then back down again I found that the ones I had first killed were just respawning in time for me to kill them almost constantly.

Ring isn't cheap to make though, I wouldn't recommend trying to turn a profit off making them as they really aren't great. I only farmed it to make for my Shadow Priest alt until I get something better.

Took me 437 kills of Dark Conclave Shadowmancer before this dropped. Finally got the drop on 3/20/2008. Started farming sometime in January and would kill about a hundred a week. Got tired after a while, gave up and came back a month later, then it dropped after about 20 more kills. This is NOT a high drop rate. I farmed it only for the sake of completion, as I want to have every JC design in the game.

in addition to the lower area, farm the shadowmancers up the hill a ways (where Asghar walks around). I got mine from one of those shadowmancers.... spent 1 hour farming them on my mage.

did they change the prof requirememnts in 2.4 like they did with the rest? cuz now it seems like alot of rare recipe's don't require someone of that prof to see or loot it.

Before I started tracking I'd killed about 40. Since starting tracking, I've officially killed 71 so far. No pattern. Lots of netherweave for the AH at least. I'll update once I get the pattern.

This one has been without a doubt the worst one of these type of ring pattern drops.
I've killed over 200 of them and nothing. Having to wait for them to respawn is just horrible, with so few a mob, and only in one location.
I've been working on trying to get all the JC recipes available up until the moment (and will continue once MoP hits), but it's one hell of an ordeal, that's for sure.

Good luck to all those trying for it, and lucky those that get it quickly, count your blessings.

About 150 more and still nothing, this is silly. At least the one with the mayeslayers they pretty much respawn right away and theres always at least one up.

I traveled out to shadowmoon, got all set to farm, and it dropped.

These plans were the bane of my existence. Farmed them for a week and a half for at least an hour a day. If you do farm them...bring a dwarf priest for fear ward. Chain fears into other shadowmancers are horrid.

Killed roughly 200 of the shadowcasters over the course of a week, here and there, and it finally dropped. Pretty rough drop rate, but that's to be expected :P

I farmed this area for 7 hours to get this drop. As a warlock, its a great ring for me! It sells pretty well too. If you're on Shadowsong send Anklesnark a tell if you want one!

~160 mobs killed on the 3rd farming night for it. A total of ~300 all 3 days :S But then moved at Blades edge Mountains for the "...of Leaves" version and got it 1st kill. Luck payed me back a bit ;)

Pretty easy farm. There are a lot of birds around besides the ones that drop this so it takes a bit longer.

Several hours, 38 Shadowmancers killed, tons of boe greens and cloth, 1 BoP Pattern.

Dropped for me after about 60-70 kills (an hour total I guess). But the birds, the damn birds, omg. They made farming Design: Khorium Band of Leaves look like a cakewalk in a teapark.

I hated them so much after a while I was just looking for them to kill and had forgotten the point of being out there lol.

Took me about 80 shadowmancer kills, plus about an equal amount of the birds and the hawkeyes/ravenguards that aggroed. I've got three stacks of light feathers to show for it though.
