Currently, as of 2.0.10, this rod becomes neccesary for creating a Void Sphere (enchanting 350) and Surefooted (enchanting 370). But you can't make the BoP rod until 375. So keep in mind that to do these lower level enchants, you'll first have to level up to 375 and make the rod, even though the enchants themselves don't require 375. (To Blizz: lame)

You might wan to concider if it is actually going to be worth crafting this rod, since it's very expensive. If you are not going to do most of these recipies, it might be better to leave the enchanting for those who are rich.

Assuming you use Wowhead's AH prices, the mats required to get to this rod is 1190g and 87s. (From Runed Copper Rod to Runed Eternium Rod)

This can be learned at 375 and goes green at 377.
Do this enchant early while its yellow for a potential skill up and don't be like me, enchanted something else for a skill up to find out this recipe turned green, missing a potential skill up.

Now now longer requires any primal mights. I don't think this was reflected in any patch notes, but as I was leveling enchanting I noticed I didn't need the might.

What i Find funny is that with the new mat cost it is cheaper then the previous version
Runed Adamantite Rod and depending on your server it might be even cheaper then Fel Iron Rod

Void Shatter requires lvl 360 enchanting, but needs a Runed Eternium Rod, which needs 375 Enchanting, that is so flipping stupid.

I busted my hump to get the rep for void shatter and I still cant use it till I grind another 5 more levels of enchanting, that sucks!

I picked up the soulfrost enchant last night, and that requires a runed eternium rod as well... so probably all the kzan+ enchants do.
450g later... I'll probably never make it back, but at least I don't have to look forward to buying it again.

Got mongoose enchant from moroes and spent a few hundred gold on mats to get my skill up to 375 so I could learn it. Didn't realise I'd have to get a new rod as well. :p With prices on my server that will be another few hundred g.

I cant belive I am still sinking huge money into this Enchanting thing. For 1/10th the time and money I have spent on it, I could have bought every enchant I wanted from someone else.

In the 2.1.0 patch, this item was fixed. The skill required to learn the formula and the skill required to use the rod are now both 375. The enchanting formula for making void spheres has also been fixed, and now requires the previous enchanting rod.

C'mon. if was easy then there would be no challenge in it. There is a reason that Blizz makes things hard. So that you always have somthing to work towards. If it was easy then everyone would max out their trades, their gear, their stats, etc. And then what?... Lose intrest in the game and go play somthing else. Blizzard has done as masterful job of creating a game where there is always somthing to work towards. Embrace the challenge! Yes, enchanting costs a lot to level, but so does every trade. The pay off for enchanting is that at very high levels it does become profitable. and the(self only)ring chants are pretty sweet too.

Not necessarily, if you dont want to sell enchants, just sell all the DE'd loot you get. all your greens from dungeons will DE into either arcane dust or planars, and they sell for way more than the vendor price. same with blue gear, usually it will sell for around 6-10g, but DE'd it'll be around 20g for the large prismatic shard.

You can DE all lvl 70 items at 275 enchanting too so you dont have to burn tons of money to get there. i spent around 400g ish, getting up to 275 and within a few days id made it back easily from selling mats. unless you have lots of time to spam chats in cities with your wares, actual enchanting definately isnt the best tactic for moneymaking via enchanting

What's the point in making chanters spend 500g+ to make an item they need to chant with?

Just getting the formulas and mats to chant is expensive enough.

On my server, Durotan, no one even tips chanters. Now that I'm 375, I don't offer to help people, because they treat you like the hired help, then don't even tip.

its expensive so people like you get discouraged and dont pick up enchanting. I picked up the new void shatter recipie and defense to chest (sunwell patch) the enchant to chest has been selling like crazy to aspiring tanks trying to get their def capped, and I just need the last rod to start shattering voids. Sure it was a lot of work to get enchanting to 375, priobably the hardest profession, but I am glad I have it now.

lvl up my bs to 375 (last 5 skils cost 150g) then i made this for an chatner for 5g fee. Almost feel bad for him cuz this costs crapload of money :( maybe should have made it for free ^^

anyways i always tip enchanter 5g typ just as i take 5g fee to.

Any one saying another thing is talking bullcrap and are cheap bastards.

u can do a daily to get 10g in 5 min so all cheap bastards can go ^&*! theirself if some one tells me they want stuff for free with their mats i say ¨sure gl with that, supply and demand you know¨

My advice to other enchanters: Don't expect "tips". Instead of doing enchants for free and hoping that people tip you, tell them upfront how much you are going to charge them. If they want an enchant from you, say "Sure, that'll be 10g + mats". Make them give you the gold at the same time they hand you the mats. If they don't like it, wish them luck on finding another enchanter.

Why did you level up enchanting? Was it for your own personal gain? That's why I did it. I didn't raise enchanting so that I could give out enchants for free and hope that people are nice enough to tip me for it. If I don't know you and you want me to do an enchant for you, you are going to have to pay me. Not tip me - PAY me.

How much do I charge? Depends what you want. Chants that can be learned from a trainer and don't require an eternium rod I will only charge about 5g for. Chants that I had to farm for and/or require an eternium rod I will charge as much as I think I can get away with. If the person has been having a hard time finding an enchanter to do the chant for them, they will either haggle with you or accept your price. Either way, you'll make a decent amount of money. If the person just got tells from 6 different people offering to do the chant for them, then they'll probably go with someone besides you. This is no big loss b/c it's obviously a common enchant that you couldn't sell for much anyways.

As for the Runed Eternium Rod itself: It's expensive, but not excessively so. This seems about right considering how powerful the enchants that require it are. If this was easy and cheap to make then everyone would have one and it would no longer be a significant achievement. Also, you'll probably need one for WOTLK enchanting, so you might as well make it now.

Actually, I have to disagree with the rolling on shards.

One, Rogues picking locks and Tanks holding aggro is a CLASS job, just like me, being a Mage, makes Mana Biscuits for everyone. Those are part of the class you rolled and the team you joined. I've never seen a Miner roll for their ore, or a Skinner roll for what they skin. Ever.

Two, other gatherers can get their mats all over. You can always find something to skin what you need, or mine what you need SOLO. Enchanters are practically FORCED to do instances to get Shards or Void Crystals. In fact it wasn't too long ago that Chanters were forced to group for Uldaman to even TRAIN their skill.

Three, not to mention that EVERY other gathering skill has a daily that will net you 17g a day. Not so for Enchanters.

That's still not mentioning all the gold that Enchanters are forced to pay in order to keep their Enchanting Rod current. Skinning Knives and Mining Picks are so cheap that I've seen them dumped for bag space. Ever seen an Enchanter dump their Rod? Hell no. That's a couple of Epic Mounts right there.

If you want to roll on the item, you can roll on a piece of vendor trash. If you can't DE it, you can't have the shard.

Exactly- now what's the net cost of that enchanting rod? People barely tip enchanters, and enchanters get called greedy if they charge.

In instances, I have no problem letting people have their herbs, ore, gems, or skins. I don't go into instances to make gold- I go for gear.

It would be nice for enchanters to sell there enchants on th ah like say a armor kit. We might actualy be able to make back some of out gold that we sink into this money pit.

All profs are hard, but the items that have to be DE'd to make a decent enchant are worrth well more than the enchant you have to haggle over.

Take for instance a herbalist picks plants and hey presto, got stuff to carry on with, as an enchanter you have to roll for the drop, "yay I got it", now DE a perfectly good item worth say 100g, make the dust, shard what you need, now try tell someone with the same weapon that you have just DE'd, they have to pay the same to do the enchant, cause it is worth the same plus my time, erm nope. So when they say nope, everyone runs off to AH finds out is really expensive so come back to haggle - get a life we worked to get the mats so pay the price or walk around without your glowing sword.

Weapons/miner is where you make your money. Hey is all fun but must have ploughed 1000's into being a master enchanter, so basically where is the reward?

Well enough gripes, will continue to grab what I can and support my mates and guildies, the rest can haggle with someone else, want an enchant from me then pay the right price for the mats, hehe :)

I also agree with the fact so many mats to make a new enchanting rod, what is going on Blizz, give us a chance to make back our investment :)

By the way anyone who thinks they can stick with 275 enchanting and get away with just De'ing is from another planet as the people that want to be a top enchanter will cut them down and make sure they are excluded, i.e. Loot Master moments.

enchanting is not so expensive if you level it while you level your character. I took enchanting/tailoring for my 1st char (today a mage 70), and I have to say, the only expensive thing was the Arcanite Rod. all the rest can be farmed SIMULTANEOUSLY to grinding, except the rods, but any rod other than the arcanite you can get for free with guildmates, or exchanging for some enchants. I spent a little more time farming low level instances about once each 2 weeks, and wasted a few material giving out enchants to speed up things (immediately after farming a low level instance), but didn't spend money. when I was to soemwhere between 60 and 70 I was with enough tailoring to make imbued netherweave bags, that sell for a lot, and no matter how many you make they sell, and made enough money to get the epic flying mount, and still have some pocket change. at this point my enchanting wasn't maxed yet, was missing 4 points, and I got them before starting raiding. I still didn't bother about the Runed Eternium Rod, 'cause none of the most important enchants for dps casters needs it, and I wouldn't put top enchants on non-top gear, but I'm very slooooowwwwly getting the mats. now it's just missing 1 Primal Might (I'll farm it through the week, like I farmed the other 3 primal mights) and the Eternium Rod, that I know I can get with guildmates.

enchanting is only expensive if you try to level it in little time, like when you change to it at high levels, that you have to buy everything from AH. then it's REALLY expensive. and in this I think blizzard did an extraordinary job: it prevents everyone from switching to enchanting at high levels (even being expensive, a lot of people think it's worthy, imagine if it wasn't expensive, it would be a joke, every 70 is enchanter!)

So the WoTLK professions were just released from the beta and it appears that this rod will take you through to level 450 if I am reading the chart right.

So I went and bought 4xPrimal Might and 1xEternium Rod at the cost of 520G (ouch!). I will scream if Blizzard lowers the mats for this rod come WoTLK time.

The cost of this is hurting me pretty badly, on my server:

Chromaggus EU

Primal might = 4 x 160 = 640g
Void Crystal = 2 x 40 = 80g
Greater Planar Essence = 12 x 19g = 228g
Eternium Rod = 25g

So just for the upgrade parts alone i have spent 973g
Hopefully i wont have to upgrade this for a LONG while.

Seriously, if you're considering making your first character an enchanter and plan on leveling it to 375, i strongly urge you to reconsider to a proffession that makes you money instead of taking it. For christ's sake, this rod alone easily cost me 800g and for what, the occaisonal 15 or 20 gold tip on an enchant whose formula is a pain in the ass to farm for? Seriously, save yourself the trouble.

After four level 70's with a multitude of different professions.. I can now say that enchanting was the most over-glamourized and hugest waste of time and expense. And YES I DID LEVEL MINE AS I LEVELED (from the comment above) OL greens on my server are not even worth d/eing as the mats sell for squat. You are better off selling them to the vendor and not disenchanting them. Not to mention, you make no money unless you hang around a city with the trade channel on and take ppl in need or list all your enchants in trade and hope you won't get ripped off in tips. Thanks Blizz. HUGE WASTE OF TIME..

Enchant only if you want to cover alts or impress friends and guildies. It's Worthless! I'm going to JC.. they make money!

And YES, I could have had EVERY enchant on ALL my 70's tenfold over for what Enchanting has cost me in my 1.63 years on this game! (Anyone who tells you different has no game life and sits in a major city and does enchants for 20g a pop all the time.. I don't have time for that. I'm playing the game.)
