the trick is to kill them fast (under 10sec seems to be about right)

if you dont the mageslayers will use spellreflect and the mana seeker will use mana burn

if you kill them fast enough as a caster they wont do anything! (they have about 5200hp each)

one hour = 7-10 motes for me (i need 6sec for one mob 0/21/40 wl)

The Mana Seekers and Mageslayers in Wizard Row have the best drop rate outside of Karazhan, at least in terms of how many you can find. Mana Wraiths are good as well, but I only recommend them if Wizard Row is full of people.

As an Arcane/Fire mage (41/20), I can manage 8-10 Primal mana per hour, depending on how many farmers are nearby.

It's easy enough to farm these in wizard row if you're a warlock, priest or mage without having to worry about going OOM or eating your own spell. Spell reflect is mostly a problem for nukers (not affliction warlocks), but then maybe not if you're decently geared and do enough DPS to make them die before the mageslayers cast spell reflect. As for the mana seekers and their mana burn, a simple spell lock, counterspell or silence will do fine.

This will also work for any other mobs that drain mana--whether netherskates in shadowmoon valley or mana wyrms in netherstorm.

The assorted elementals that drop motes of mana are generally immune to poison and arcane effects. The beasts, however, are not.

These are very easy to farm at Wizard Row using a feral druid. I usually only need to heal every 30 minutes which is perfect since I need to refresh MoTW and OOC anyway. I just run around hitting mangle on the mobs, their physical damage is very weak. No need to worry about mana drain or spell reflect, if the Mana Seekers start to cast slow just hit them with maim and shred them.

I made roughly 5000g in 2 weeks of farming 3-4hours a day, which didn't include selling greens. I did sell a few jewelcrafting designs on the AH for quite a bit though.

So if you're feral and you need some cash this is a very easy place to get it.

If you are an herbalist, Netherwing Ledge in Shadowmoon Valley is another pretty good place to farm these as well if you're still grinding rep for Netherwing, as the nether rays there sometimes drop these motes and you can sometimes get 1-3 off netherdust bushes too. I'm not sure if this is as effective or more effective than the other places mentioned, but at the very least it's an extra perk for grinding Netherwing rep.

The mageslayers and mana seekers are easiest to farm as an afflict lock...

DoT, DoT, DoT as many as you're comfortable handling at a time (I like to play with five at a time, but I'm on a PvE server. :P)

Drain soul will more than likely give you mana back having specced for it, so just remember to do that as they're going down and mana burn won't be a problem.

If you happen to get ~50% health as you're having fun- Howl, be sure your DoTs are on a mob and apply Curse of Shadow, and drain back to full.

Rinse, repeat, and reap your motes. Easy, easy.

If you still need some extra mana, you may have to steal some from your imp. Oh, nos!

Despite what you may see here, it does take ten motes to create a primal. What you see here is actually a quirk of the way Blizzard handles the spell. On Blizzard's end, a two-step process occurs:

You use the first mote, destroying it in the process.
A spell is cast, which destroys the other nine motes, and creates a primal.

This spell here--step two--is the spell that gets listed here on Wowhead.

Patch 2.4.3 note: It appears that the number of phase wyrms in Bash'ir Landing has been significantly reduced, by at least half. While this will make getting mana cells for the daily quest there quicker, it also makes this a less efficient place to farm primal manas. Before the patch, I would usually get at least 5 and as many as 10 motes of mana per daily quest run; now I get maybe 1-2, since the path I normally take (starting behind the three Etherium prison cells in the SW corner) now only requires 3-4 kills at most to get 10 mana cells. Expect the AH price of these to increase significantly as a result, since doing the daily was how most people accumulated them.

Best spot for these I have found is around Area 52, you have got the Presenza di Mana or Manta Fatua as other people have said but I had great drop rates from Aberrazione Distorcente on The Crumbling Waste.

It seems like people also forgot Cacciatore Fasico which are also in the area if you like a bit of variety in what you kill.

The motes for these are best grinded off the mana wraiths in netherstorm. They have about a 30% drop chance. You can make good cash off these.

These are a pain to farm compared to others such as primal air or fire, and they sell for less on my server I usually just buy these instead of farming them.

you can find them west of Stormspire, however they are immune to arcane. You can burn em down pretty quick though.

many ppl are grinding this primal its has good drop rate and its expensive U can find it west or west-south from area 52 or east of netherstorm where the violet tower is with the Quests some elements are around there (mana-wraith).. i am grinding primal mana every day i can get 4 (primal) in 1h. If no one is around double as that gl try it late at night it always work and u got the whole area free for u

I learned the transmutation from fire to mana at lvl 65, while transmuting earth to water. So you learn it randomly and its not related to primal might.

They aren't too hard to farm. I find the best place is too loop through an area along the chasm to the south east of Area 52 by some ruins. A dozen or so nether rays patrol there and drop motes quite often. When theyr all dead, head over along the chasm till you see all the elementals. The warp aberitions (they look like air elementals) drop them pretty regularly and theyr not too hard to kill (I'm an arms warrior with pretty bad gear, so elementals are usually tough for me). When you clear them all the way to the Heap, head back for the respawned nether rays. I can get a primal about every ten minutes on a good run. I'll have my Fireguard in no time!

Farming these are so easy. My favorite spot is in Netherstorm(kirin'var village). I can get maybe 3-4 primals and a couple motes in about an hour. As an arms warrior(soon respecing prot), not terrible gear, its more for tanking, they go down fast and easy. Great spot.

EDIT: after 15 minutes I have 2 primals and 3 motes, same place.

Edit2: after about 30 minutes I have my 4 primals

Wizard's Row in Netherstorm has got to be the best place to grind out primal mana. The two types of mobs there (mana seeker, and arcane elementals) both have a VERY good drop rate.
**A good tip for herbalists though, you can get motes of mana off netherbloom and mana thistle in netherstorm and netherwing ledge (SMV).**

Verified, Kirin'Var Village in Netherstorm. 2 Primals in 15 min. High respawn rate, got this with a shaman and an alliance mage who were also farming them. Never had to wait even with the 3 of us there. Just stay around the magekillers and voidwalker lookin ones and you will be set. Also great is that these xmute to fire so I wont have to put up with the terrible fire drop rate to get the 14 primals I need for my Leatherworking set. GL

I've found another great spot for farming if ur a melee figher, especially rogue/warrior. There is a field just north of the arklon ruins in netherstorm crawling with nether rays and phase hunters. These guys do PHYSICAL damage unlike the guys in kirin'var, which do ARCANE damage. I.E. your armor will help when you kill these guys. The drop rate is about the same, and while the monsters are a tad less dense, no one ever farms there and the downtime is minimal, espeically if you wear plate like I do.

I got 5 Primals in 40 minutes of farming at Wizard Row.

I'm an Elemental Shaman and this obviously included drinking and eating every 15 kills or so.

In my opinion, best ever place to farm mote of mana is North-East of Arklon Ruins in Netherstorm.

I'm a Fire Mage but never died here even though you will have to take mana breaks as they do drain mana.
It's near impossible to die here in my opinion. I had a max of 4 attacking me at any one time.

Phase Hunters are pretty much immune to frost nova, they can break out of it so are harder than nether rays imo.

This is a good way of earning gold between lv 67 - 69
(Farming fire/mana was how I got from 69 to 70 when I had no more quests to do :P)

Nether Ray - 48% drop rate. (After 3 hours-ish of farming)
Phase Hunter - 37% drop rate. (After 3 hours-ish of farming)
Total motes in 3 hours-ish: 90
(9 Primals)

I suggest transmuting to Primal Fire then selling to AH as Primal Fire sells at better price than mana.

REEEEALLLY good farming spot. As you can tell The Mana Seekers were the dominant mob. It's a small area so you don't need to run around a lot. Respawns are fast, I never had to sit and wait for a mob to respawn. There is a repair guy like 30 seconds away where you can sell %^&* and instantly jump back in. All in all, very good farming spot. I would suggest it if you need to farm primal manas or some quick cash.

Now after this are my primal airs. GG BLIZZARD! Make us need to collect motes from mobs that are immune to our 3 most used spells. Earthshock, Lightning bolt, AND chain Lightning.

I farm these things in the morning when the sun is high, and i can feel some heat on my face, perfect time to plant crops and motes. But to me farm these guys in quel danas with the dailes

What the heck are you all talking about with these drop rates at krin'kar, I've been farming for over 20 mins and found ONE mote of mana.... god my luck sucks in this game.
