If you really love this trinket do not do the quest! You have to give it in, never to get back unless Blizz have finished the quest. I had a macro set up and everything for this little toy and now it's gone :(

I checked to see if they completed quest line in patch 2.3 well they didnt and i think blizz is just gonna turn a blind eye to it for a while.

There is a continuation (https://www.wowhead.com/cata/quest=8733). It is part of the AQ gate opening chain. Unfortunately, most of us will never see that quest. Maybe it'll be 5-mannable at 80? Regardless the trinket is useless once you get about 1 hour into Outlands, just turn it in for XP and get there faster.

The Essence Font can be found in the same room as Eranikus in the back left corner.

this quest is no longer valid with patch 4.0.3. the urn that you used to deposit the essence of eranikus is GONE from the room where eranikus is. so i'd like to thank blizzard for not removing this 'essence of eranikus', the eranikus quest-starting item, from my inventory when 4.0.3 was implemented. because i still had this item, i figured the quest was still valid, so i searched and searched for a way to complete this quest until i came to this conclusion. blizzard employs a bunch of asshats, no doubt in my mind about that.

To those like me who never turned this in and complete the mini quest chain, and still have the damn thing in your bank after Cata, oh well, toss it. Can't finish it any more now, can't use it, only taking up bag/bank space. Sad...

So if you're like me, you skipped out of Shade of E's lair before you completed the essence quest. No worries. I was able to stealth back in and activate the font by returning to the instance, sneaking past scads of mobs, and entering the new Shade of E's lair when he's not agro. Then just clicky the font and you get a nifty little poison charm that AOEs everyone around--I think I'll keep it for bear form agro; it's not too shabby.

Did this as a 54 druid with no Feral spec, just plain old cat stealth, and got no agro (was close at points though).

If you can't sneak, well, sorry for you. But you don't need to defeat Eranikus to do it again--just ask your group to clear to him and you should be fine when he's in ghost form.

I keep the trinket and later found this guy in a cave in swamp of sorrows and he asks for the trinket to finish quest. Then he tells you to go speak to a humon in winterspring that speaks to the dead. I thought great, a better trinket or something, went to winterspring, the guy said thanks, got some xp and that was it, lost the trinket and I want it back. As a tank I loved to poison everyone.

Could someone PLEASE give directions on where the quest is inside Sunken Temple, been there 5 times and group keeps falling apart!Thinking I could try to solo this. Just need to know where to click on the emerald. Please Help! Thanks

you goto the back left hand part of the room eranikus is in and put it there. then be ready to hit continue and complete before you die if your doing it by yourself.

Multiple people can get this item from the giant sleeping dragon. The quest is completed in the same room. warning tho, you have to be 48, as I learned on my 46 UD priest, but i did not destroy it thankfully enough.

if you have not already done this, you get 100% drop. everyone gets to loot it. then you go in the corner, and finish quest for a DOT AOE trinket with 15 min CD (ouch). nice thing is, you get a couple thousand xp from the first kill.

Everyone gets one of these when you kill the Shade of Eranikus dragon in the Sunken Temple (Swamp of Sorrows instance).

We took down this dragon with a 58 Priest, 58 Rogue, 57 Hunter and 60 Mage. Took us 2 tries to do it but nailed this dragon.

Loot this and get the quest off it and then go to the corner of the room to the Essence Font (same room dragon is in). There you will get a nice trinket that summons a green poison cloud.
