The Feast of Winter Veil is one of 12 World Events that runs for two weeks, beginning in mid December and ending just after New Years. In addition to the many events running during this world event, players are tasked with completing several objectives in order to gain achievements. Getting all of the achievements done will allow the player to gain the meta achievement Merrymaker, and the title Merrymaker <name>.

This meta achievement is required for What A Long, Strange Trip It's Been, in which the reward is a Reins of the Violet Proto-Drake mount.

In order to complete the meta achievement, you will need to complete the following tasks:

-- 'Tis the Season: Wear three pieces of Holiday Gear and eat Graccu's Mince Meat Fruitcake
-- A Frosty Shake: Turn yourself into a snowman using a Winter Veil Disguise Kit and /dance with another snowman in Dalaran
-- Bros. Before Ho Ho Ho's: Use Mistletoe on your factions "Brothers" spread throughout Azeroth. You get the Mistletoe from /kissing the Winter Revelers in various Inns.
-- Fa-la-la-la-Orgri'la: Perform the daily quest Bomb Them Again while your mount is turned into a reindeer
-- Let It Snow: Use a Handful of Snowflakes on a predetermined list of race/class combinations. You get the Handful of Snowflakes from /kissing the Winter Revelers in various Inns.
-- On Metzen!: Simple. Save Metzen the reindeer.
-- Scrooge: Throw a Snowball at your factions leader: King Magni Bronzebeard or Cairne Bloodhoof
-- Simply Abominable: It's a quest to kill the Abominable Greench!
-- The Winter Veil Gourmet: You need to have at least 325 cooking skill in order to finish this. You need to make a Gingerbread Cookie, Egg Nog, and Hot Apple Cider.
-- With a Little Helper from My Friends: This was the most time consuming for me. You use a gnome transformation capsule located in various places throughout Azeroth to turn you into a Little Helper, then gain 50 honorable kills.

There are other achievements associated with this world event, some of which are no longer available in game, and others which are not required to be completed to obtain the meta achievement.

-- BB King: Requires you to shoot the opposing factions leaders. I'm assuming that it's going to be done with 2009's Winter Veil gift.
-- Crashin' & Thrashin': Required you to gain 25 crashes with the gift from 2008, a Crashin' Thrashin' Racer.
-- He Knows If You've Been Naughty: You have to open a gift under Greatfather Winter's Tree. Not required for the meta-achievement.

Overall, I like this world event. It may take some time to complete, due to the PvP Achievement, but there is nothing too terribly hard to complete. The Ogri'la daily quest Bomb Them Again is now easily unlocked without having to perform the whole chain of quests.

Seems to be a lot of confusion about the hats this year (post Cataclysm 2010).
Here is my experience, disregard the "dates" in the Blizzard statement everyone is throwing around, as it seems to be inaccurate.

Northrend Dungeons:
Grand Magus Telestra in The Nexus: Red Winter Hat
Heroic: 100% DROP!
Normal: 0% - 3% Approximate DROP!
Jedoga Shadowseeker in Ahn'Kahet: The Old Kingdom: Red Winter Hat
Heroic: 100% DROP!
Normal: 0% - 3% Approximate DROP!
Mage-Lord Urom in The Oculus: Green Winter Hat
Heroic: 100% DROP!
Normal: 0% - 3% Approximate DROP!

Cataclysm Dungeons:
Lord Godfrey in Shadowfang Keep: Green Winter Hat
Heroic: 100% DROP!
Normal: 3% - 14% Approximate DROP!
Drahga Shadowburner in Grim Batol: Green Winter Hat
Heroic: 100% DROP!
Normal: 3% - 14% Approximate DROP!
High Priestess Azil in The Stonecore: Red Winter Hat
Heroic: 100% DROP!
Normal: 3% - 14% Approximate DROP!
Corla, Herald of Twilight in Blackrock Caverns: Red Winter Hat
Heroic: 100% DROP!
Normal: 3% - 14% Approximate DROP!

As always your mileage may vary as far as the NORMAL MODE drops are concerned, all in all if your REALLY want the hat, run a heroic.
There is of course always the slight less than 1% chance you can loot either of these hats off of any HUMANOID mob in the game.
Don't count on it however.

Please be mindful that Wowhead receives it's data from it's users, so the loot tables of the for-mentioned Bosses can be, and probably are inaccurate to some degree just from not many people looting the hats and uploading the data.
Also, the bosses get looted thousands of times when the holiday even is NOT going on, so if the hat appears on the loot table, the drop percentage is likely horribly inaccurate as well.

Is a rare or very rare drop from https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=73792. That you get through the daily quest Che cattivone... for horde and Che cattivone... for alliance.

And as the name implies it looks like a little "Christmas tree" or in this case "Winter Veil tree".

Twas the Eve before Winter Veil, when all across Azeroth
Not one mob was stirring, not even a Crimson Moth.
The axes and guns by the stovestack were hung,
In delight that Ol' Greatfather soon would be there.

The orclings and troll-kin were snug in their beds,
While nightmares of Deathwing danced in their heads.
And mamma in her plate mail, and I in my cloth,
Had just started diggin' in for some Alterac wrath.

When deep within The Drag, there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the Auction House to see what was the matter.
Gemming my epics, I flew like a mage,
Slashed open the shutters and threw up Enrage!

Elune on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of Eversong to objects below.
When, what to my bloodshot eyes should appear,
But a battle-scarred sleigh, and eight ragged reindeer.

With a cold-as-ice driver, not some Alliance bother,
but I knew in that moment it must be Greatfather.
More rapid than Wind Riders his coursers they came,
And he screamed, and bellowed, and belittled them by name!

"Now Digsnout! now, Drimsnap! now, Protspec and Vexxer!
On, Contagion! On, Hamstring! on, on Drago and Metzen!
To the top of Darnassus! To the bottom o' the 'Forge!
Now rend the Alliance! Rend away! Rend away all!"

As priests that before Al'Akir fly,
When they meet with a Wind Burst, mount to the sky.
So up to the Twin Colossi the festive mounts flew,
With a sleigh full of Smokywood Treats, Feats of Strength and the Greatfather too.

And then, with a shout, I heard on the roof
The tearing and rending of each razor-sharp hoof.
As I drew on my helm, and was turning around,
Through the roof Greatfather came with a bound.

Dressed in festive leathers, from his head to his foot,
And his wraps were all stained with blood and charred soot.
A bundle of sausage and cheese he had flung on his back,
Just like a wretched goblin, just opening his pack.

His nostrils how they flared! his tusks how rotten!
His cheeks were like moss, his nose like au'gratin!
His drooling wide mouth twisted with Orcish brogue,
The grizzled beard of his chin, sickly pale like the snow.

The stump of a gnome he held tight in his maw,
The blood dripping down like a wound from Calder's Bonesaw.
He had a smashed face and a tiny goblin flunkie,
That cowered when he barked, like a bowlful of jelly!

He was gnarled and bent, a right hostile old orc,
And I grimaced when I saw him, in spite of myself!
A glare of his eye and a crack of his neck,
Soon gave me to know he meant no disrespect.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the sabatons, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his fist hard astride of his chest,
And with a "Loktar!", he departed with the rest!

He rushed to his sleigh, to his team gave a roar,
And away they all flew in a mist of red gore.
But I heard him exclaim, with one exultant breath,
"Happy Winter Veil to the Horde, and to the Alliance a slow death!"
