Seeking to complete a newly unlocked rare artifact? Then this post is for you!

There are four rare Dwarf artifacts:

Staff of Sorcerer-Thane Thaurissan requiring 150 fragments with 3x Dwarf Rune Stone that can be used (I am yet to unlock this precious)
The Innkeeper's Daughter requiring 150 fragments with 3x Dwarf Rune Stone that can be used (my 17th Dwarven solve)
Clockwork Gnome requiring 100 fragments with 3x Dwarf Rune Stone that can be used (my 6th Dwarven solve)
Chalice of the Mountain Kings requiring 100 fragments with 3x Dwarf Rune Stone that can be used (my 13th Dwarven solve)

While I may not have solved all 32 archaeological rares (I have 25 thus far), after hundreds of hours dedicated to the cause I can say this - there is a method to the madness! And I say madness because archaeology is one profession that should not be taken lightly. Get ready to dig... Lots.

When you arrive at a dig site, take a look around you. The surrounding mobs will generally be the best indication of what kind of archaeological finds you may uncover while surveying there. If you're surrounded by ogres, or something less obvious, then consider what the local settlements are predominantly comprised of, or who the local lore is related to.

In the Hinterlands or STV you'll be surrounded by throngs of trolls - and whadya know, the Troll Archaeology Finds go hand in hand. Wetlands, Badlands and Burning Steppes are all known for their dwarven dwellings - and similarly, so are most the archaeological finds. If animals dominate the land, then appropriately you will often find fossils.

Archaeologically speaking, the Night Elves thoroughly dominate Kalimdor, Dwarves and Trolls the Eastern Kingdoms, and Fossils neatly scattered across both. Outlands are only for the Orcs and Draenei archaeological finds. While Northrend is proving most interesting with Night Elvish and Troll Fragments popping up in addition to the expected Nerubian and Vrykul Fragments. For anything Tol'Vir, it's all in Uldum and Uldum alone (will update if this changes). Unfortunately, dig site spawn locations in Uldum share the same continent as Kalimdor - maximum total of four. This means you're gonna have to keep digging Fossil & Night Elf Frags (among others) all over Kalimdor in order to possibly have the Uldum dig sites spawn. Stay tuned!

There are always exceptions to every rule, but you'll find by and large that the above theory holds true. For those of you seeking dig site locations only, see below.

How do you dig for the fragments? I bought the Arch profession but it didn't say if I needed anything else. If wrong tell me what I need please?

Just to contradict here.

Night Elves - Kalimdor
Trolls- Eastern Kingdoms

Been farming at 525 for a bit now, and by and large Troll is the most common digsite. Dwarf is far less common but Eastern Kingdoms is still your best bet. However the fragments sadly do NOT drop like candy anywhere it seems. The upper bracket does add 1 more Dwarven zone - Twilight Highlands. BUT adds another Nelf zone - Vash'jir.

I still far more commonly see Troll and Fossil than Dwarven. Your mileage may vary :(

Am i the only one beeing irritated bout the fact that you find DWARVEN fragments at Whelgar's Excavation Site in Wetlands?
C'mon, there is ALIVE fossils all over the place! Why isn't there any fossil fragments there? >.<

Has anyone seen the daily quests in the dungeons that use the Dwarf stones?

With High enough archeology you can find and complete quests inside each of the new dungeons. These quests cost a keystone and grant your party a zone wide buff.

Dwarf Rune Stone:

What works great for me is to "push" the sites downwards, or towards the place where I want to focus my diggin'.

I had three sites in two different locations, two sites in WPL and 1 site in the Hinterlands, so I tried focusing on them rather than flying downwards to take my site near Tarren Mill, (focusing on Dwarf), so when these were done with, I hade moved one down to Searing George and the two others to STV. I flew to STV and continued to push the sites. After about 30-40 min and 20g later I had all four sites on "Dwarf Grounds".

When these four sites were done with, they all had moved to the same region up in EPL/WPL, much easier to do the diggin' when they're contained in the same area.

This might be a bug, and also might be fixed in 4.1, so you better hurry.
