I can't find any horde side quest to grant this achievement without going back after wotlk is out.

You do not need to complete a quest to receive the achievment. Once you down Aku'mai it will be granted to you.

There are no quests to kill Aku'mai, he is more of an optional last boss. So there is no way this achievement can be retroactive.

You do not need to kill all of the bosses to reach Aku'mai for the achievement. Just light the four fires at the base of the pedestal behind Twilight Lord Kelris, kill the adds that appear, and the door to Aku'mai's chamber will open.

When Aku'mai is dead, speak to Morridune in the same room for a port back to Darnassus.

Well if you are like me trying to finish off the old classics at 85 go to Blackfathom Deeps (Ashenvale) many other comments will give you the entry to this dungeon.

No need to kill all the bosses just head to the end, the end map is linked above if you click on Aku'mai slain.

What you need to know is how to open the door to Aku'ma... you need to click on the 4 fire cauldrons around the statue snake to open the door. Some adds will spawn, kill them then once this is over the door will open and Aku'ma is just beyond this door. Easy once you know.
