You don't have to kill the boss to get the achievement. What we did was stop attacking when Ripsnarl vanished and run inside the hut when the first add started casting coalesce. We died but got the achievement.

Seems possible to line-of-sight the coalesce explosion so you don't take 100k frost damage. Alternatively, letting 3 spawn and explode will also earn you the achievement (and a wipe).

Just got the achievement and we did NOT kill the boss, we engaged the boss, got to the point where the first vapors start to appear, we feared them, (yes, you can fear them) ran into the hut and just focused on Ripsnarl till we were killed, about 5 seconds into that phase we all got the achievement, and about .5 seconds later we were all killed. Easy as pie.

It seems as though when someone stands on the ledge to the east the coalesce will not do any damage to that player.

The iceblock strat is not working anymore. We get him to about 5%, than he spawns the 3 adds. We let them grow and right before they finish casting their spell, i iceblock.

All 3 explode, the raid dies and i survive, yet we do not receive the achievement.

Still works, Let the 1st phase where he brings clouds up, everyone got into room, when the 1st add became big, i iceblocked, everyone died except me ,everyone got the achievement

My group tried this on 9.1.2011. We tried with the triple spawn exploding at the same time, with paladins living through it, no achievement. Then we tried having the explosions one at a time, marking one add to leave up in each of boss' quarter HP phases and as soon as it started casting Coalesce, we ran in the room to avoid it. This way we had three explosions, we killed the boss, no achievement. So unless the achievement actually requires people to be hit by the damage, I'd say it's bugged at the moment.

In spite of what the above comments say, pally bubble/one person surviving DOES still work. Obtained this achieve today by bubbling through the explosions.

Got it a few minutes ago using the pally bubble method.

When phase 2 starts, don't kill any of the adds. Right before the 1st one exploded, the tank bubbled himself and lived through the 3 explosions. We all got blown way off the boat and died, but still got credit!

This achievement is bugged; wIth or without bubble bug, it's a 50/50 if you're going to get this or not. My group did it the proper way by eating 3 Coalesces and then defeating the boss and we still didn't get it.

The Coalesce hits for ~100k before resists so nearly killing everyone except the tank.
Any class that has any survivability should use them when the add is about to explode. Make sure to communicate to your healer WHEN you will be using your CD and when you won't so they know when you focus on people and who's about to take less damage.

A few tips:
- fight in the cabin to negate knockback
- when the boss disappears at 75 / 50 / 25, have the tank taunt and mark the FIRST add that spawns. everyone in the group should use /focus on the add to see exactly when it will explode. kill all other adds asap
- if you have a holy paladin, make them use resistance aura and pop aura mastery before a coalesce -> double frost resistance for 6 seconds, enough to eat a large part of the hit
- if you have a prot paladin, make them use divine guardian for 20% reduced damage on the whole group for 6 seconds
- keep BL for the last 25% until after you let the 3 adds explode and the boss goes nuts on the damage & summons a lot of adds

Everyone in the group was mostly 5-man heroic level geared, without any sort of raid gear (only rep epics). Myself as a tank, I was sitting at ~182k hp buffed so after the coalesce the healer had time to focus on the rest of the group for a bit. If things get icky, help your healer by popping your own cooldowns.

Okay an easy how-to on this achievement, pretty simple

DPS the boss like usual, then on 20% stop dps and wait for the last adds to spawn at the same time, let them grow big and do their thing and cast the Coalesce, run into the hut before they explode, LoSing the freezing vapors, then kill the boss, no need for a whipe to get the quest completed.

So just did this achievement yesterday, and it would appear it is still bugged and actually "random".

We had a normal group set up, and were doing the one cast per vanish strat.

75%, boss vanishes, we mark first add and don't touch it so that it can cast while we kill all the others. When it does cast we LOS and tank AMS's (obviously we had a DK). Repeat at 50% and 25%. It was very very easy for us to do this way, however, it was bugging.

After 3 casts, we did not get the achievement, so we let a 4th cast go off kind of giving up on it. We had to wipe anyway to try again. Some of us were blown off, and I released to run back. As soon as I pressed release spirit, the other 4 in my group got the achievement. Our group then did 4 more attempts trying to get just me the achievement and we tried every way imaginable. I tried eating 4 with direct damage, no luck... tried LOSing, tried paladin bubble. We put about another hour into it just for me, and it didn't happen. We checked for resists and everything. We may have let 5 go off the one time in fact, but the encounter just would not let me have it.

I ticketed a GM and was responded to within the hour. She stated it was a hot issue and told me that the encounter is having issues at the moment and they would like any info I had so they could fix it. I told the GM everything, unfortunately she didn't give me my achievement lol. However she did state that "the achievement appears to be random whether it works or not, and on who it chooses to give the achievement to". That is almost verbatim.

It's not a very difficult achievement if you do the method I mentioned as well as others before me. LOS and let the tank eat it and what not. However, keep in mind that it is bugged and you may or may not get it. Hopefully there will be a hotfix to this, or a patch will adjust it soon. Happy achievement hunting, and good luck. This will probably remain the last achievement I need until it's fixed just because of how frustrating it was for me. Nothing like 1shotting the siamat achievement then getting shafted on this one.

To do this one guys it's not that hard and no-one has to die. All you need to understand is that the Evolved Vapor doesnt move when it casts Coalesce and the spell can be dodged by Line of Sight.

Choose 1 vapor that you will leave to evolve and tank it to the side of the ship away from the door to the central cabin. Kill other vapors etc as normal. Once the vapor starts it's cast EVERYONE retreat to the cabine, no boom, no knock-back. Get back outside, pick the next vapor and repeat.

Even if RaidAchievement says that you need to kill the boss after the elementals have Coalesced 3 times, that's not needed. The criteria is to live through 3 Colasesces. Which means that you need to be alive during them all 3, and not die after the second one. (You are to hide either in the cabin or by the front of the ship there's like a wooden wall where you can LoS the Vapors.)

Is there any lore behind the achievement name? From a movie, a famous quote, anything? If I may humbly suggest, a catchier albeit more clichéd name for it might have been, "Stay Frosty!"

If you are having trouble with bugged achievement not awarding, try to let 3 vapors IN A ROW coalesce.

It's not so hard, just let the tank get hit by first one while having some cooldowns up. He'll fly to water and can los the others under the ship or anywhere really. 2 more should have coalesced once boss reaches him.

You'll wipe once but you'll get the achi. (hopefully)

We just tried the achievement (again ...) and it didn't worked, again.
Long story short, I wrote a ticket and a GM confirmed to me that the 3 adds must explode one after another.
This means you have to wait until the boss vanished for the first time (or any other time, but why wait longer) and have 3 adds explode consecutively. I'm thinking of a DK tank with anti magic bubble and he kites 3 adds behind (or inside) the hut and have them explode. Or something like this.

Wowhead says Coalesce does 27750 to 32250 frost damage and a 200yd knockback.
Is this true? With resistance aura this would be something like 3x24k damage, this sounds totally healable especially when using additional defensive cooldowns.. And if you do it in the cabin, the knockback wouldn't be an issue anyway.

We've gotten this achievement on the first try every time. One thing that's important to note is that someone standing on the outside can get knocked off the boat, resetting the encounter (which is great if you're gotten your third coalesced add, but not so great if you haven't :). We had some quick thinkers in our group, so we were able to quickly judge when to be in the hut and when to be LoS'ing around some corner.

Another important point is that it's best to do this in the final phase when he's quickly spawning 3 adds at a time. You'll pretty much have 3 back to back explosions, making it easier for someone to stay alive.

The tank grabbed the three adds that spawned soonest and ran into the hut along with 3 other people. I ran to the opposite end of the boat, since I didn't have aggro on any of the adds, and gave a second opportunity in case they failed to stay alive in the hut. I was careful to check the corners to make sure I wasn't going to get aggro, in which case I would run back inside. The group did, in fact, die on the second coalescence, and the third one came for me with just seconds to spare. I ran up and let it blow me off the boat, getting the achievement and staying alive to rez the group to quickly restart the fight for a kill. Easy every time.

Absolute easiest way to do this achievement:

Vapors follow normal threat rules, so any time he vanishes, doesn't matter when, just have the tank and two or three others go inside the hut and hold aggro on them, while the rest of the group with no aggro from anybody go OUTSIDE around to the back of the hut.

Since Coalesce does pretty hefty damage whoever is holding the vapors inside the hut will most probably die, but this method allows that after they do, the vapors will come after the rest of the group, allowing more instances of Coalesce to be cast and having a greater chance of bypassing the bug.

It seems to be that you need to have three separate instance of Coalesce actually be cast and HIT somebody and have them live through it.

Just did this last night on my Druid with the above method. Everyone else was holding the several vapors in the hut, not killing them, and I rand around to the back just to be safe. Coalesce popped and nuked them all in two hits, but there was damn sure more than just two going off, but no achieve. Afterward the rest came for me, Coalesce started, I hit Barkskin, barely lived through one, achievement, dead.

I dunno why more people haven't thought of this sooner, its not required that the entire party gets smashed in the face by this all at the same time, just split up.

we found a pretty funny way to get this done rather easily. take a lock into your group and make him fear the add - it will most likely end up behind either the cabin or the other side of the platform. it casts the coalescence there and nobody gets hit. easy :)

This is still bugged; we did it with random vapors early in the fight, no achievement despite three exploding

All we did was take him into the cabin, dps till he disappears, then just wait. Tank pops cooldowns, everyone else dies, but still gets the achievement.
