The aberrations in question are released periodically by Maloriak via an interruptable spell three at a time, as well all being released simultaneously once he hits 20% health, a total of 18 appearing throughout the encounter.

They emit an aura that reduces the damage taken and increases damage dealt by any friendly target within range, meaning more of them the tank has on him, the harder he'll be getting hit, plus the adds will be nigh invulnerable (But not entirely, as the damage reduction is multiplicative, not additive).

However, this aura temporarily fades when Maloriak enters the "green" phase of the fight (Two phases occurring before this, each phase lasting 40 seconds, and occurring in a cycle until 20% health), during which everything receives a 100% increase to damage taken for 15 seconds (This same debuff being the one that removes the aura from the adds), which is when the DPS need to burn the adds down.

At nine adds, the damage starts to become extremely difficult to heal through without the aid of defensive cooldowns, and at 12, the tank will get killed in a matter of seconds, so they need to either be kited, or kept apart until they can be killed.

More likely, you're going to need to use 3 tanks on this fight, since when a single tank gets about 9 on him, it's almost impossible to stay alive at current gear levels. So splitting the adds between 2 tanks, waiting for 12 to spawn and then waiting for a green phase to burn them all down seems to be the way to go

This can be obtained by interrupting all of the add casts and having a tank with cooldowns kite the adds as far away as possible while the DPS zergs Maloriak when he releases them all at 25%. When the boss goes down the adds will all despawn at once and you are credited with the achievement. Ranged dps can help the tank with this somewhat as the adds are not immune to crowd control (ex. Trap...etc)

If you kill Maloriak with 2 green vial phases, it turns out that you will need to kill the 12 aberrations during the 2nd green vial phase rather than the first.

If you kill them during the first, it will not credit you with the achievement as the 2nd green vial phase resets the counter for some reason and decides to ignore your killing the first 12. Just a warning for you guys.

For people wondering, a second challenge, AoE damages starts to have diminishing returns at 10, which is usually the 9 adds suggested + Maloriak and therefore does not pose a problem. However, adding another 3 will cause your AoEs to hit diminishing returns, so account for it when calculating if you have enough DPS to drop all the adds in time.

This achievement seems to be bugged a bit. Even though it requires you to kill Maloriak afterwards, half our raid got the achievement during the fight after killing the 12 Aberrations, while the other half got it after Maloriak was killed.

Because I haven't seen this posted yet, it is actually possible to tank 12 adds with current gear levels, with the use of defensive cooldowns. With exceptional gear (tank and all 3 healers were 356+), heavy healing (2 healers were completely dedicated to the tank while he had 12 adds), and the use of defensive cooldowns (tank used shield wall, and healers popped anything they could on the tank), it IS actually possible to tank 12 adds for a longer than average span of time. Keep in mind, however, that this is still only about 20 or so seconds, but if somebody missed an interrupt, and the tank has 12 adds on him, don't call it a wipe and give up, it is still possible to complete.

We got this achievement accidentally today in 10 man by having 12 adds alive at the end of the fight, we couldn't be bothered waiting for the second green phase so we just had our tank run around through slow traps with heaps of adds on him, while we finished the boss. I think he had 12+ the 2 big guys.

Reasonably easy achievement, simply go 6 on the first green phase, 6 on the second but dont kill them, then when maloriak hits 25% he will cast "Release ALL aberrations".

Have your OT tank the 6 on the first, nuke them down, then just kite 6 and keep interrupting while burning the boss down, once Maloriak hits 25% and the other 6 get released AoE the remaining 12 down QUICK and finish the boss off, if your team are sufficiently geared it shouldn't be too much of a problem, efficient use of Tanking CD's is necessary but if your going for this achieve in the first place im pretty sure your OT can do that :)

Want to confirm that this achievement does not have to be done with its two requirements met during the same encounter. Also, it does not matter what order you do it in, as we had some kill him first, then in a new encounter get the 12 adds down, whereas other raiders got the 12 adds down without ever having killed Maloriak, and then killed him after the next reset.

We struggled more than usual one night - a couple of weeks after we'd started including Maloriak in the weekly kill rotation for our raids, and found ourselves with 12 adds up. We called for crazy AOE to see if we'd get through it, and the achievement popped for all the raiders who had previously killed Maloriak. We lost the offtank, so we were not able to continue after finishing off the adds, but still...
One deathknight in the raid had his achievement tracking stating that he had 12/12 Aberrations down within the 10 seconds, however he had not killed Maloriak before, so he did not get the achievement. We moved on to new bosses on this particular raid night without killing Maloriak, so the deathknight got his achievement pop on the next raidnight when we killed Maloriak.

The text of the achievement might be a little misleading, as it states "Kill 12 Aberrations within 10 seconds on the Maloriak encounter in Blackwing Descent and then defeat Maloriak."
The part with "and then defeat..." might lead one to believe you have to do it in the same encounter, even though Blizzard often states very explicitly when it has to be done in the same encounter.

We actually acquired this achievement over the weekend by having only 2 tanks in the raid, one on boss and other kiting the adds across the movement slowing effects we have people place in the back of the room. They didn't hit the OT to hard because of the kiting and then green vial coming out right after the last set of adds appeared. Since in the green vial phase the adds don't receive the buff from being around each other healing was fairly light.

As far as getting the achievement happening mid-fight, we had downed Maloriak a previous week. This means that you don't necessarily have to down Maloriak and the 12 adds in the same encounter, although that did happen with a couple of our raid members.

On a funnier note, we also had to give our hunter crap because after getting the achievement mid-fight we had realized he had left Aspect of the Pack on.

If you already killed Maloriak at least once and the aberrations get killed during an encounter, you will get the achievement immediatly.

But if you didn't kill Maloriak at least once then you will get the achievement after you killed Maloriak with killing 12 aberrations withing 10 seconds on the encounter.

Really weird from blizzard to have this.

I've had the achievement come up, where we've killed 12, and not killed Maloriak yet, and killed 12 and not get it without killing maloriak.

Our guild tried this last night - probably should have checked here first to see the comments about doing it on the 2nd green phase. Anyway, we gathered up 12 adds from the start of the fight and got them all down within the 10 seconds - I checked the achievement and it said 12/12. However, when Maloriak fell, no achievement was given.

I sent a ticket to a GM to which I received a response this morning. He said he checked our logs and couldn't give credit for the achievement because the 12 adds AND Maloriak did not die within 10 seconds.

Can you believe that response? I can't...I nearly fell off my chair. I've sent a follow-up ticket to express my extreme dissatisfaction and am currently awaiting a reply...

This is pretty easy if you have a Destruction Warlock (or really any ranged spec that includes AOE stuns and slows) in the group. The 2nd tank just needs to kite the adds in front of the warlock-- pacing back and forth across the room. The warlock simply alternates using Shadowflame with Glyph of Shadowflame every time the tank passes by and Shadowfury on CD. This is a simple way to significantly reduce the amount of damage done to the tank .

When the second green phase comes, just put Bane of Havoc on Maloriak, Summon Infernal, and burn down the adds with your AOEs. In normal 10-man, 1 warlock can drop all the adds in under 10s without any help while doing massive additional damage to the boss through BoH.

You don't even have to kill those adds for that achievement. It will also trigger if 12 Aberrations are still alive when Maloriak gets killed.
Just zerg Maloriak and you don't have to wait for a green phase or anything

its funny, me and my guild did this completly on acsdent because we let one to many Release Aberrations go threw, but after the nerfs it was easly healed threw with one off tank, so we do it every time not,

our interupter has less of a job now lol
