I know a lot of people thinking this is a lame title. I beg to differ. The Light of Dawn, for those who don't remember, is the final DK quest where the Knights of the Ebon Blade break free of the Lich King. I wouldn't mind have this title at all, you've defeated the most powerful enemy in WoW since Deathwing was forced to hide, who was once a paladin and is now the exact opposite, despised by all paladins, and you get something very paladin-ish, and in my opinion, very cool sounding.

Only one question: will it be (Name) the Light of Dawn?
or (Name), the Light of Dawn?
Maybe it's just me being OCD but I'd much prefer the one with the comma.

This is it. the pinnacle of any raider in patch 3.3. It's been a long road from stumbling blindly into utgarade keep at level 70, but heres your test. get this achivement within 3.3, and you know you're one of the major players.

As you can see its said Slain the Lich King while 25mNormal say Defeat assuming that LK will not be dead till 25HC.

Kil'Jaden can be claimed as powerfull as the Lich King since :

He Made the Lich King.

When Fighting him in the sunwell he wasnt in full power, only the half of him was there after all.

He is still alive in another dimension, he was never killed.

Also it seem that Tirion with his Ashbringer could acctualy beat him back in the last DK quest in light hope chapel, he appears to be fragile to the light ^_^

One thing I noticed about this achivement was that it didn't require one to be part of the realm first kill of Lich King 25-player heroic, like Grand Crusader and Death's Demise did. All you need to do is to defeat him on this difficulty once and the title is yours. This lead me to belive, or at least expect that The Lich King on 25-player heroic mode will be very, VERY challenging.

I personally would love to get this achivement, who wouldn't? But I'm afraid it's beyond my potential to reach this level (at least now). But despite this, I hope that Blizzard will remove the title in future patches, alternatively with the release of Cataclysm. This title should represent that you were there, fighting alongside Tirion Fordring and the Argent Crusade against desperate odds. When the Lich King was still alive according to lore. Not some "lol lets have a jolly good run in ICC hc ok gusy?" at level 85 with item level 340 epics.

Only 10 achievement points? Come'on people! This is the Lich king, on a 25-man heroic raid! Bane of all living creatures and ruler of the SCOURGE on Azeroth. What can I do with 10 achievement points?

the title would indeed sound awesome on a holy priest or paladin, but on a dark nature class like warlock, shadow priest or death knight it just sounds wrong

death knights should get "name, the redeemed" imo. :) that would be holy and not sound wrong. Buuut thats just me.

If someone thinks that the Lich King is Arthas / Ner'zul ? then your wrong, Ner'Zul and Arthas is just spirits inside the Lich King, Ner'Zul was torn and tornamented for years, then his soul got into the Lich King (cant remember how sry) and was frozen as they still would have been(nvm that). then Arthas came, with honour of the Alliance ect ect, and the Lich King got his spirit / soul into the true Lich King, but Ner'Zul isnt in command of the scourge anymore, as he was before Arthas ruined it:)

its not full story... just some of it.

Ya not mention if you listen carefully in the Cataclysm Expanision Trailer "As the terrible war against the lich king continues" Then you see them fighting what not, so im thinking that you just defeat lich king, i dont think they would take the star the everyone likes from Warcraft 3 out of the lore?

The Lich King gets DEFEATED not Killed, becus it always has to be an Lich King to lead the Scourge and stuff, someone got to wield Frostmourne (unless Frostmourne gets jeleaus with Shadowmourne)

Bear in mind, when you fight The Lich King, you're (hopefully) getting the help of Muradin Bronzebeard (leaving out Saurfang because he MAY not be there due to his son), Tirion Fordring, Darion Mograine, Sylvanas, Jaina, and a buttload of #$%^ed off death knights, paladins, and members of both the Horde and Alliance behind you along with 24 of some of the most powerful adventurers in Azeroth.

This is gonna be one hell of a night.

is a bit of a pity that so few will get it, beating the lich king on 25heroic isn't something every average joe will do.

No its not a pity, its as it should be... The über ppl that actually does this in HC deserves something shiny to show for the effort.

The Lich King, Arthas Menethil, will die. He will be killed. There is no hope for Darth Vader-style redemption, not any longer. He has no heart, no soul, and he is fully merged with Ner'zhul.

However, Tirion Fordring reminds players that, indeed, there must ALWAYS be a "Lich King" to lead the Scourge, for if left without a leader, they would run rampant and destroy all living beings on Azeroth.

After Arthas is defeated, there is one clear choice for the new King: Bolvar Fordragon.

Bolvar is the next Lich King. During the Yogg-Saron encounter, a memory players can encounter in the Old God's mind involves the Lich King torturing an unnamed Human. Arthas says something along the lines of, "I will break you....just as I broke him", referring to his conversion of Saurfang Jr. to a Death Knight. The person he is torturing, Bolvar, replies in a scream that echoes throughout the entire instance, "Arghh! I AM NOT AFRAID OF YOU!"

This resistance of the Lich King's will shows that Bolvar has what it takes to become the leader of the Scourge in Arthas's stead.

Personally I think that maybe Arthas will stop being crazy and help us destroy the remaining old gods in next expansion cause it just says defeated for the achievement and honestly I don't think that Deathwing will be the final boss of Cataclysm because he is being controlled by the old gods. Then again maybe we won't actually destroy the Lick King personally maybe it will be tirion who destroys him and really we just weakened him enough to be destoryed.

Dåwn, the Light of Dawn.

A little redundant, but beautifully so.

There's no way I'm ever getting this title. My sincerest congratulations to anyone who does.

Grr on the spoilers without warning.

Well still I gotta see the ending movie and still I got question how vast scourge is if it would engulf world after losing their leader ? Somehow it does little hollow, when army loses their general it usually gets so hard blow to morale that they just disband or get really fast into ground.

And I do wonder that would there be some encounters in future involving the "new lich king"

The light of dawn.. sounds awesome if you take the meaning to be the passing of the dark. Killing the LK on Heroic 25 is by far the hardest boss encounter yet in the game. This title will make those few who achieve it the saviors of life in the world of Azeroth.

My guild is currently training on Lich King 25 Heroic. Unlike the other Heroic fights Blizzard has given us in Wrath of the Lich King, this one gives you the challenge you long for from the Classic and TBC days. There are plenty of things in Heroic mode that will make you shudder when you see how powerful they are compared to normal mode.
Infest is more powerful, alot more powerful. Infact we take 6 Healers for Lich King Heroic 25 instead of taking 5 like we do for the rest of the raid instance. The Drudge Ghouls aren't amazingly deadly but can be a right pain in the cheese if you grab aggro on one of them, especialy if your getting hit by one and your suffering from the Infest debuff... it will kill you eventually. We actualy forbid AoE in melee such as Cleaves, Death & Decay, Howling Blast and what not until the current wave of Ghouls has been successfully ToT'ed to the add tank by 2 Rogues.
Necrotic Plague is the same as normal, you get it, you run to the adds, get dispelled, carry on.
Shadow Traps are the main thing you gotta look out for really in Heroic Phase 1. These nasty buggers spawn at the location of a random raid member and if one person in your raid touches it, them, and all others close to them will be blown away, off the platform and, well... ye die. The way we have been doing it is to have Melee stack up behind The Lich King as normal with a Healer or two. The rest of the Healers and all ranged Dps stack on the other side, within range of all raid members and all hostile units. Bigwigs has a lovely way of super emphasizing the Shadow Trap target, and they give you a little /say as well as getting a raid mark. The main thing about traps is the melee. if the Lich King tank gets the trap, melee will be tempted to run forward to follow the Lich King, BAM! they hit the trap it's a wipe. Melee need to run in a circle around where the Lich King was to where he is now to avoid the tanks trap.
Once we get into Phase 2, we stack on the marked raid leader slightly to the west to make all Valkyrs go that way, as close to the Ice Tomb that Highpansy Tirion Fordring is in. You can only slow them down to 50% movement speed max, but you can stun them still. So we have Hunter traps, FoK spam with Crippling Poison, Chains of Ice, Pally AoE pew pew stun, Warrior Howl, everything you can think of... if it slows or stuns, it will help no matter what.
Defile in Phase 2 Heroic is tricky, you can't afford to loose Dps time on Valkyrs but you can doom your raid with Defile. So we have meel stack up to the side of the Valkyrs that are furthest from the throne, focus target Lich King and when he picks his target everyone that hasnt got it heads to the throne side of the Valkyrs and the guy/gal who has is heads south, away from the throne, this means we loose minimal Dps and gain the advantage of knowing where the raid will be as soon as a Defile comes accross us.
Unfortunatley we havn't got as far as Phase 3 yet, the hardest phase xD
The main thing for most guilds is the lack of Dps on the Valkyrs in Phase 2. CD's, AoE abilities, slows, stuns, it's all gravy but without the proper order, it will put you into the downward spiral that is a failed attempt.

when u get this remember one thing... dont show off ur achv in trade more than 100 times (tht is wen it gets annoying) so u dnt get reported. but if sum1 askes for ur achv for an icc link em marrow on 10man and ask if its enough... THEN link light of dawn. reaction funny as hell.

so.... as of 4.0.3 has anyone tried to obtain this? the new gear,5 new lvls, IN-SANE stat inflation, and new spells have made this somehow easier to obtain? (I tought the 30% buff would be removed in cata, but it seems it's still there)

while the "Bragging rights" of this achievement are long gone, the title itself IS one of the coolest ones in the whole game, and almost a must-have for any paladin (and even Dk's with a "Redemption" motiff) out there.

this was most definitly THE hardest achievement back on WOTLK (on my realm alone, only 2 guilds got it), has this new expantion made it somewhat easier on the rest of us mortals?

This fight was done at 21/5/2011 by a pug with well selected people simply nuking LK through thre transition phases. We had 2 tanks and 4 healers and 19 ranged dps and nuked him.

Hero was popped on first transition and then we had no defile and no veil spirits! Was amazing!

Just got this today, cant really brag about it as did it when we were 85 and with the 30% buff, but the title alone is awesome for my Holy Priest.

Our setup was a pug of the better players from my server we all knew tacs so it was just a case of good execution, although a few still thought it would be fun to take flying lessons from the shadow traps.

Gl to anyone trying to get this and gz to anyone who got it before Cata when it was hard =]

Anyone who thinks Light of Dawn is a lame title is a 12 year old of exceptionally bad taste, and would prefer something dumb and testosterone-laden like Lich Destroyer.

This is by far the most epic title ever put in the game.

The entire world is on the brink of destruction, about to plummet into an eternal night under the yoke of the immortal Lich King.

And then the very best from among the peoples of Azeroth rose up, to defeat him forever. And they were forever known as the Light of Dawn.

Obtaied this week by a well selected PuG group on Thunderhorn EU.

Took a few attempts to get defile & shadow traps right and almost wiped at 11% due to people being idiots - but nevertheless down he went.

Been wanting this tile since wrath. Finally completed it.

Killed him the other day in a pug. Very simple as 85's you over power him so much that you can actually ignore the mechanics besides Defile and necrotic plague.

Phase 1--Solo tank it just drop the plague off move from traps.
Phase 1.5--kill adds
Phase 2--nuke him ignore valks you lose 3 ppl doesn't really matter
Phase 2.5--Kill adds.
Phase 3--nuke him only got one frostmourne phase

EDIT:: was a complete pug with only 5 ppl actually knowing the fight on reg. it is just that easy now

This achievement is still hard in 4.1. If your DPS aren't up to par, you probably will have trouble taking out Valks.

If you have trouble with valks and defile, here is my suggestion:

Leave the valks, let them take people. That way you don't have to worry as much about defile (stack for valks) and think about it, only 3 people each time. Try to burst the LK into P3.

U should only lose 6 people (a bit of RNG, but still). Its better than defile wiping.

After P3 there are no valks, but there is still defile

for harvest soul, make sure u get to the outside and have a designated person to stack on. The bombs hurt, but not nearly as bad as in wrath.

Quick Guide on how to explain this to a pug,

P1 Has two Main abilities
Necrotic Plague - When you get this run to the off tank and have healers dis-spell it off of you
Shadow Trap - Separate the Melee/Rage/Tank/O Tank/ Into 4 groups. Have all four groups move back simultaneously
to avoid traps,

P1.5 Melee Kill adds, Range Kill LK

P2 POP HERO, Nuke boss, HARD ignore the 3 adds that come, and push LK under 40%
Defial - Have the tank and melee go to one side of room and spread out, and the melee go to the other side of room
and spread out This keeps the melee spread out so if one of them gets it, there not with everyone in the middle of the
room

P2.5 Melee Adds, Range LK (hard)

P3. Tank Boss on edge of room, wait till he siphons sole, Once everyone gets ported out, RUN to the center, Hopeful defial falls on the edge, and you should be good!

Forgot to update but we Finaly got it! after likr 6 hours of wiping in two days i finaly got my title, with a pug, on a dead server :D
