You can still get the title "IF" (nothing official here, just speculation) you had a vial pre-patch. My guild downed Vashj prior to the patch, but ran out of time on Kael. Last night we downed Kael post-nerf just to get the rings. After turning in the Vials, I got the "Hand of A'dal" feat of strength and the title was selectable amongst my other titles.

Interesting note: I had the vials quest just before the patch but my first attempt run through SSC and TK didn't come until just after, at which point someone shared the quest and I was able to accept. I had two identical copies of the quest in my log and was able to turn one in (only one set of vials). No idea whether the one I turned in was the pre patch or post patch version. We'll see this week if I'm able to get the vials again.

Also, a question that might be hard to answer: I've clearly got the pre patch vials quest but I never started the BT attunement quest line. Any way to know if both quest lines needed to be started before the patch to get the title?

This may shed some light on the matter.

I had completed the BT attunement chain up Ruse of the Ashtongue pre-3.02. Post 3.02, I killed Al'ar and then Rage Winterchill. Upon attempting to start "Entry into the Black Temple", I received the quest, but also an error message stating "You do not meet the requirements for this quest", leading me to believe that, as implied by the anecdote above, Blizzard has added a second, identical attunement questline that differs only in that it does not award the title.

I have not yet acquired a Kael vial - I had the Vashj vial pre patch - and will follow up with whether am am able to obtain the title.

EDIT: I obtained the Kael vial tonight, and obtained the title.

If you have the old questline in your logs, it is still possible at this time.

I received this title yesterday and I didnt have any vials pre-patch. I had done the BT attunement quest up to Fathomlord and I was still able to get the title. So its not dependent on the vials.

Talked to a friend tonight who today got the title after killing Rage Winterchill. (Or, more accurately, interrogated him, as I also want to get the title and wanted to make sure I understood his steps.)

He had the pre-3.0.2 version of The Vials of Eternity but only completed it post-3.0.2. He had completed the Black Temple quest chain up through, but not including, The Secret Compromised. In particular, he only killed Fathom-Lord, and received The Secret Compromised, post-3.0.2.

Since I am in the same situation he was in I am hopeful I will also be able to get the title. I am keeping my fingers crossed I'll be able to kill Fathom-Lord (and Rage Winterchill, and re-kill Al'ar) pre-expansion, as it's quite possible Wrath of the Lich King (or, heck, the 3.0.3 patch) will close this loophole.

(To clarify, as far as I know The Vials of Eternity is the only quest I know in the long list of requirements for the title that exists in both pre- and post-3.0.2 versions, so as long as one obtains and completes the pre-3.0.2 version of Vials the rest apparently can still be done at any time. If this is so, one could theoretically start the entire Black Temple attunement questline from scratch post-3.0.2 and still get the title. I'm glad I don't have to find out firsthand, though!)

Postscript: I am pleased to report that I was able to get the title tonight, so the 3.0.3 patch did not create any new obstacles. I did hear one report from a fellow raid member that the pre-3.0.2 version of The Vials of Eternity might no longer be shareable, but am unsure whether that is something new with 3.0.3 or there was something else going on that we both mised.

I had neither quest chain completed prior to 3.0.2, however, I had the quest for the Vial from prior to then. I proceeded to complete both quest chains, saving my vial quest for last, and got the title.

Based on what I can tell, until 3.0.3, the old Vial quest was sharable. I believe that was changed, so people wouldn't be able to pass the title awarding quest forward. If someone shared it with you before 3.0.3 came out, you may be able to get the title.

The only thing I didn't get pre- 3.0 was Kaels vial. (Have Vahsj vial and have completed "Distraction for Akama").
If I sometime in the future, run TK and get his vial (will he still drop his vial?) and turn it in in CoT, will I still get the title?

I just got the Hand of A'dal title today. I had the vials quest from before patch 3.0.2. I got both vials after 3.0.3. Before patch 3.0.3 I had finished the BT attunement up to but not including The Secret Compromised. So I killed Fathom Lord Karathess after patch 3.0.3.

The old version of VoE is no longer sharable as is the new version is, so if somebody tries to share with you and you already have it, do not abandon your current one or you will lose the chance of this title.

Attained the title just 2 minutes ago. I had done the vials in 3.0.2 (with the old quest), and I grabbed the Time-Phased Phylactery about an hour ago.

Looks like they haven't switched A Distraction for Akama for the new one yet.

If you want to get the title, you better hurry. Blizzard won't leave this error for long.

If the the idea about two versions of The Vials of Eternity quest - one from before 3.0.2 that rewards the title and one after that doesn't- is true (which it seems to be), then I'm slightly &*!@ed at the developers. There was absolutely nothing about this in the patch notes. It looks like they simply don't want us to know about the new version. But of course, it would be very stupid to think we wouldn't.

I got the quest shared (post-3.0.2) before killing Vashj and Kael. But when I handed in, I didn't got the title. I assume that the person who shared had picked up his (new version) quest after the patch. Luckily, someone else must have shared the old version with me on my 2nd kill of both bosses, so I got the title when I completed the quest (I had already done the other part of the achivement (Akama-quest) before patch. But it apparently hasn't a new version, btw).

Some of the comments on this site says that the devs removed the possibility of sharing the old version in 3.0.3. This would mean that it's impossible to get the title if you didn't get the old version before 3.0.3. I had no idea that they would do this, so I didn't bother asking someone to share the old version to my alt. If it's true that you can't do the achivement after level 71, then it doesn't matter for me anyway (since I won't find a raid of level 70s now), but it may have mattered for other people.

Blizzard, making two versions of the Vial-quest may have been the easiest solution to making sure that people won't get the title after WotLK is out. But please, at least give us some information before doing those things. I'm sure that there are people out there who could and should have received the title then.
Alternatively, I'm sure it must have been possible - with the release of patch 3.0.2 (and the big boss-nerfs) - to simply announce that it would now be impossible to get the title (without a new quest-version, probably).

Veroxis I have just handed in my vials of eternity quest after holding the vashj vial from way before attunement nerfs and got the title.

Just some clarity to everyone else.
As long as you didn't disband the quest before the echoes of Doom patch then the title is yours to claim!

I just picked up Kael's vial and turned in the quest, but did not receive the title or the feat of strength. I had the quest and Vashj's vial pre 3.0, so I'm not sure what I did wrong that everyone else did right.

I do not have the BT attunement chain done, which might be the problem. Is it still able to be picked up and completed?

I just got the achievement and title not five minutes ago at level 80 (1-24-09).

Before 3.0, I had done the BT attunement up to but not including Seek out the Ashtongue (which I still had in my quest log from back then). I also had The Vials of Eternity in my log from before 3.0.

I was away from the game for several weeks when my guild finally killed Vashj and Kael so I missed my shot. Pugged a bunch of people at 80, went and killed them both. Vashj was cake, Kael still takes a good bit of coordination. We wiped several times on him even at 80 with a full raid >.<

Me and some of my guildies just got "Hand of A'dal" title yesterday (v3.0.8a)..

We all had the quest from way back (pre v2.4) and had only killed Lady Vashj. After killing Kael'thas (which was a piece of cake for a 15man/1tank raid) we got the title from handing in the Q in CoT..

Some guildies hadn't killed Lady Vashj before, but she is still quite a mouthfull, mainly due to the Tainted Cores and fear from Striders.

All in all, Kael'thas can be managed by no more than 10 people, but Vashj still requires somethng close to a full 25man raid, mainly due to the big area everyone is spread over..

I have the vials of eternity quest from pre-3.0.2 but havent started the BT attunement quest at all. If i complete the vials of eternity quest now, and then do the entire BT quest chain now, is the title still attainable?

Please don't give a reply like "I got both mine before the patch and done them all after the patch" etc... like people did on the WoW forums :/ because that is just useless information.

Confirm, it's still available to get if you have RIGHT quest from Caverns of time to SSC/TK. Obtrained title today, but have kept Right quest since 2.4.3
Blizz replaced quest in CoT in 3.0.2. Old one become unshareable, and new one don't lead to title.

The BT part of the achievement I have done way back, think about during 2.4.2. patch, So can't say if you can still get the achievement if you have pre 3.0.2. vials, but after 3.0.2. BT part from questline.

Just got it a minute ago. had finished vials of eternity before patches but abandoned and re-accepted Ruse of the Ashtongue before completing it like a couple days ago, so afaik the non vials chain still works fine.

I just Achived this, i had done the vials q pre 3,0,2 and i had done up to "Ruse of the Ashtounge" but i had thrown it out, so i repicked it after reading the above posters, and i did TK and MH, and i got it just a min or two ago, if u have done vials q pre 3,0,2 u can possible still achieve this...

I got the title tonight.
I had the Vial quests before patch 3.0 and had only done the BT attunment chain all they up too SSC and hadn't recieved the quest from the NPC there. If you still have the old quest in your log you will 90% get the title.

Just got my achievement today (12/7/09)

I am making this post in order to make it clear which are the requirements to grand you the title.\

Requirements: you need to have the quest https://www.wowhead.com/cata/quest=10445 in your quest log. It is the original vials of eternity quest ( quest id 10445.). you should either have picked it up pre patch 3.0.2 or sb could have shared it with you pre patch 3.0.3. It is not shareable anymore so either u have it or not. Check the quest ID through Lightheaded addon.

Thats the only quest you need to have. it is enough to grant you the title as it did in my case. Take a look at my progress and u will see why

A friend of mine shared the quest with me on 1/11/08 at serpentshrine caverns. It was a few days before it became unshareble. I downed vashj the same day and picked up the first vial ( post patch 3.0.2)

Started the BT attunement quest line from scratch with this q https://www.wowhead.com/cata/quest=10568 AFTER wrath of the lich king launch (in december i think) and completed it today. This means that the whole quest line has remained solid. You can still start it now and grab your title.

Finished of kael afterwards, picked up the second vial and returned the vials of eternity quest ( its the first one in the quest log if you have both the new and the old one)

Got my achievement!
So ALL my progress was done post patch 3.0.2 when the quest was changed.

I know i dont deserve the title at all. I just wrought the comment to help anyone else that had questions about it.

Perhaps the longest and coolest quest chain in the game. You also needed to be in a imbah guild atm to get it all done as it required downing some bosses in BT as well.

In my opinion the coolest title in the game. The Amani bear of Titles =)

I can confirm that the title is still obtainable as of 7-31-09. I had the Vials quest done long before 3.0 hit but had not finished the BT attunement quest line. I was on https://www.wowhead.com/cata/quest=10946 in the quest line when I started this back up. Once I completed https://www.wowhead.com/cata/quest=13429 I was given my title.

From my impression, you can still get this title whether you had the quest like last year or picked it up yesterday..its an achievemnet now that came with wrath content so by the looks of it, do those attunemnts and you'll get your title..

Going into patch 2.4, I had only obtained one of the Vials of Eternity (Vashj's actually), and I picked up Kael's in 2.4. I can confirm that if you had those completed at least pre-WotLK, and still had the quest in your log, you can still pick up the title as of 3.2.

I most likely could have turned in https://www.wowhead.com/cata/quest=10445 and then done BT attunement with the same results.

Okay people we get it, I've seen about 15 stories about having the quest in your log. My question is, I'm seeing two quest givers for Vials of Eternity, one from a Blood elf female, and another from a little boy. I want the title, and abandoned it when Wrath came out. Which one do I choose?

It is working if you have the 2.4 quest shared aswell, you don't need to have picked it yourself.

The Secret Compromised up to Ruse of the Ashtongue—first got the quest about a month or so ago (August/September 2009)
Ruse of the Ashtongue up to A Distraction for Akama—did these today (October 2009); a guildie who also had the Ruse quest did not show up on the quest log as being on the same quest as me; I don't know which A Distraction for Akama quest I had, https://www.wowhead.com/cata/quest=10985 or https://www.wowhead.com/cata/quest=13429, but when I turned it in, I got the title and the achievement.

I was not expecting it and had only been trying to do the quest chain to get the handy port to Outland (Blessed Medallion of Karabor). Very surprised. Very pleased.

I only remember seeing this quest in my quest log pre-3.0.2, though sadly I dropped it the night before Wrath came out for I was unaware of what it would be worth at the time. Is the quest ID triggered by the character who has accepted it or is it different if I re-accept it? Please don't be mean in your response, thanks!

Ok so I had "The Vials of Eternity" pre-patch and didn't complete it until few months ago. After completing the vials quest I only managed to find a group for SSC last week and I got the next quest in there. I did all the chain and yesterday 11/16/2009 I got my achievement and tittle, so yes it's possible!

My friend had the vials quest but he abbandoned it he'll probably gonna try to take it back again and see what happens when he finish "A Distraction for Akama" wich gives you the achievement and tittle when you finish it.

If you had the pre 3.02 version and abandoned it after 3.02, you cant pick up the original version again. Well....I'm pretty sure anyway, i had it in my log until wrath launched and abandoned it, i tried to pick it up again and it had the 13432 version

I have had this quest on my druid tank for over a year....

I went into LK tanking hard then lost insterest about March..but kept the quest.

I leveled multiple other toons..having fun here and there...but this quest has been in
my druids quest log for well over a year.

I killed Vashj like a year ago..before LK came out...just before. I forgot about this one during LK leveling and such didn't think much about it.

I have always kept the 1/2 (vashj) part in my bank...tonight I ran through TK with a group of 80's...done...quest item was there.

I received the Title and Feat of Strength achievement on 11-25-2009.

If you have the quest in your log...do NOT let it go.

I just completed my Vial of Eternity Quest (the old version I had in my quest log for over a year along with Vashj's Vial ) since we just went to kill Kael and I've got his Vial.

I already have the medaillon from BT attunement that I did in BC, so that wasn't a problem.

I rushed to The Caverns of Time (fearing it might no longer be possible because of the above post), turned it and I just gained my title!

Armory profile - Achievements Might not be updated yet, but I just got my Hand of A'dal title and achievement as of 12/13/09 :)

Just got my title!

I have quit WoW back in TBC with the Vials of Eternity quest on my BE Priest. Then i've pugged TK and SSC in Wrath and completed quest. Server x-fered and did all the BT attune (A distraction for Akama) chain. And today, 01/21, i've finally became Ligia, Hand of A'dal!

So if you have old vials quest... you can still get it!

Confirmed that getting the title is still doable. Got mine today (19/02/2010).

I had the Vials of Eternity quest back from BC. Never logged in since then with this toon but these WoWHead comments made me feel curious.

I took the quest from Seer Olum in SSC and killed Vashj at the same run. Tempest Keep came next with Al' ar and Kaelthas. After killing Winterchill in MH and giving back the quests in SMV I finally got the title and the feat of strength without any problems.

Confirmed still possible to complete. As of this morning (14 March 2010), I had the old "Vials of Eternity" in my log, with no vials collected, and the old "Ruse of the Ashtongue." I was able to collect both vials, kill Al'ar with the hood, kill Rage, run through the cutscenes, and gain the title.

Completed Vials before WotLK release, other quests started and completed few weeks ago. The result is World Last Hand of A'dal=)

It won't be world last when I finish it on my shaman. He just needs Fathomlord dead to continue the BT attunement, and he'll have the achievement and title. :)

You never know if something will actually be world last. :P

Just the same as everything already said but I thought I would just share what I did.

I had server transferred 3 times but not faction. I had the old vial quest that was not shareable, at one point I had both quests in my log. I hadn't started ANY of the Un diversivo per Akama chain until this year.

Well... my girlfriend and I both had the vials quest since BC and had Vashj's in bank. We went to TK on a mount farm run, got Kael's and turned in quest yesterday. We both had done the BT attunement chain up to killing fathomlord in SSC but hadn't killed it. So we made a 5 man group, all of us Kingslayers and killed fathomlord today. We were able to pick up the quest continuation from the caged npc. We killed alar in tk, hit hyjal and killed lich with 4 man grp. Then did the akama escort into BT. And we both got the title today 9/16/2010. So it is still possible if you have held the old vials quest since BC, or completed it during BC. Haha!

I just got the achievement and title yesterday, or better, today cause it was past midnight. =]
I had the chain since the BC and at 70 I had stopped before killing Al'ar.

as for muckymcfly's message about the error "You are not eligible for this quest.", I got the same thing when I turned in some quest to Xi'ri, but then he had another quest for me, I got it and it worked fine.

I got this title today (September 30, 2010).

I had the vials quest before they changed it but I had not started on the BT attunement quest chain at all and had not collect any vials until a couple weeks ago.

During the BT attunement chain I also got the error message saying "You are not eligible for that quest" when I turned in the "Entry into the Black Temple" but I was able to pick up the next and final part of the chain "Distraction for Akama" by talking to the quest giver afterwards anyway and the fact that it may be a different quest ID than the original did not prevent me from getting the title.

As of 4.0.1 I believe they finally removed the possibility of getting the title completely. I finally got around to finishing it and had the original BC vial quest but after finishing the distraction part i did not get the title.

As of October 2010 (after patch 4.0.1) you still can get the title if you got the quests before WOTLK.

Just started to play again with my warrior and to be honest I didn't expect to get the title or the feat of strength. Nevertheless I've asked to my guildies to help me complete the Vials of Eternity quest (only had to kill Kael'thas in TK).

To my surprise, when I handed the quest to Soridormi I got the achievement.

You can still get the title ONLY if you've picked up the Vials quest before the WotLK patch, there are two different quest ID's, pre-wotlk and post-wotlk. The pre-wotlk vials quest ID triggers the title, it doesn't matter when you picked up the BC attunement chain.

Still possible to do this achievement even after 4.0.1, you just need to have had the quest chain started and the Vials of Eternity quest picked up pre-WotLK. I just got it on my server, 11/3/2010 11:56 PM or so, Thunderbo-Anub'arak US

Hand of A'dal is still obtainable if you withhold the quests with the correct Quest-ID.

The Vials of Eternity (Quest-ID 10445)
A Distraction for Akama (Quest-ID 10985)

If you suspect that you have the old quests, you can link them in game. If you have the "correct" quests, you will see the line "You are on this quest."

Accordingly, if you have the new quest, you will not see that text for those quests. But you will see it for the new quests (with the new Quest-IDs).

I noticed that I had https://www.wowhead.com/cata/quest=10445 in my quest log for about 3 years now or something close to that.
Had never done any progress on it, so decided to start Black Temple pre-quest 11/6/2010.

On the same time we went inside Serpentshrine Caverns to kill Fathom-Lord Karathress we said "Hello" to Lady Vashj to kill her, same goes for Kael'thas in Tempest Keep - the Eye, when we killed Al'ar with the Ashtounge disguise. To gather the 2 vials.

After I recieved Medaglione di Karabor, I went back to Tanaris/Caverns of Time and completed my vial quest and BAM! Achievement popped.
Made me happy but I know back in my head that I shouldn't recieved it because It's 4.0.1 now.

Like most of the posts have said. The main thing is to complete The Vials of Eternity - 10445. Patch 3.0.3 went live on November 4, 2008 which took the original quest out of the game. Chances are if you got started a quest prior to that date you can still aquire the title.

In the spirit of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, one-upped for "World Last". Had finished Vials of Eternity, but never talked to Seer Olum who spawns after the Karathress encounter in SSC. Obtained the chain from him, and upon completing the quest "A Distraction for Akama" I was rewarded with the Feat and title!

Totally just earned the title today, even post 4.0.3. Check out Krynnyth of Scilla.

All I had to do was finish out the Vials of Eternity quest (10445) that I still had. I had not even picked up the quest from the NPC after Kara'thress (meaning had not killed Al'ar, Winterchill, etc) - I did all of that this past week.

Finished 'Distraction for Akama" (13429, the new one), and was awarded the title.

i just got the title today. when it popped up on my screen as an achievement, i had no idea what was going on. turns out that the vials of eternity quest that i had in my log since bc was what did it! (and i thought it was silly that i was keeping such an old quest in my log.)

You just need to have completed the Akama questchain untill you get the Medallion of Karabor, and have the Unsharable quest to get the vials from Kael and Lady Vashj.

the only way you can get the title and the achivment after wrath is if you were on the chain before wrath came out its now 4/11/11 and i got the title and the feat of strength cause i started thwe chain before wrath came out just never finished it

Like many of the people above, I handed in my pre-3.0 vials quest the day of or a few after 3.0 but, I never got around to doing the chain that starts in SSC. I had a couple friends come with we and we did the raid content portion of the chain. When I handed in Entry into Black Temple I recieved a "You do not meet the requirements for that quest." error. I assumed that this meant no title for me but I grabbed Distraction for Akama anyway. When I finished it I was granted my title. I was so happy that I could still get it almost 2 and a half years later. Earned my achievement 05/05/11.

Obtained the Feat of Strength and title today (July 14, 2011), so this is still obtainable if you have the original pre-3.0 version of the Vials of Eternity quest.

It only took four years and 15 more levels, but my mage is finally ready to raid the Black Temple!

You absolutely can still get this achievement if you have the original quest still in your quest log. On 8/12/2011 at 6:05pm EST, Crystalmagi from Lothar received it.

Like so many others, I had the Vials quest from way before WOTLK, completed recently and continued the Black Temple attunement quest.

I got the "You do not meet the requirements for that quest." error before accepting Distraction for Akama but on completion, achievement poped and I got my title today, Sunday 21st Aug 2011.

A new world last for now I guess.

I have the stereotypical "I just got this lolol" statement to add, but I do have one extra piece of interesting information.

The character in question had the original vials quest, which I completed (late) right around the time of Cataclysm's release. I then faction changed, and was able to pick up where I left off from Akama in SMV (TK step). I forgot about it for a bit, until recently when I was able to go back and finish up the old raids. I too got that "you do not meet the requirements" error when doing the event in front of BT, but I was summarily rewarded with the feat and title upon turn-in. :)

So, the vials quest is a "one-off" and completion status won't be reset if you swap factions. Might be good news for a few people! :)

I just did this on my hunter half an hour ago. I can confirm that as of patch 4.2.0 all you need is The Vials of Eternity quest chain in your log from BC. I restarted up the Black Temple chain from the quest giver in SSC and did everything up to Entry Into the Black Temple. Then I finished out the Vials quest, turned it in, and then turned in the Entry quest. I got an error with that quest about being ineligible and thought that I had lost the chance on the title. I forgot that completing the next step is the one that gives you the title. I quickly did that and after three years finally have this title on a toon. :)

Also, I just had the one quest, The Vials of Eternity, before 3.0 hit. I hadn't started any of the Black Temple attunement quests and had to do them all. So, if you've had the quest sitting in your quest log for three years... you can still have the shiny title!

Read through all the comments and can't seem to get a definite confirmation on this, so:
a) Is it possible to start this chain fresh at 85 (ie, no prior progress, no old quests, etc) and obtain this title?
b) I used to have the vial of the sands quest in my log at 70, but I never managed to complete it, and abandoned it at some point or other in time. If the answer to a) is no, is there some way I can resume from my old progress and still obtain the title?

World last Hand of A'dal - received the title a few hours ago on my warlock Lunhillas, US-Ursin. I had the quest from way back in BC (first non-shareable version) and I finished it up this week at last.

Gamemaster told me Hand of A'dal and Champion of the Naaru titles are no longer obtainable even if I have the quest in log for many years (means before 3.0 patch). As I see he wasn't right. Sad, even GM don't give correct information.
Well, still good. Pre-wotlk raiders can get this if they have the original quest and post-tbc players don't deserve it anyways.

Anyone who completed this at any level other than 70, and during the transition patch for Wotlk should get the title "Handed A'dal".
This title is special to those of us who earned it with hard work, and kind of a kick in the teeth to see people bragging about getting it in 2011. I guess you can get it, but you won't know the feeling of what it means to wear that title, maybe that's enough for me. Either way, world last is actually world first that doesn't deserve it.

Apart from throwing my name into the hat for "World Last", I noticed something unusual about this feat of strength.

I completed the The Vials of Eternity quest chain first, quite some time ago. Today I completed An Artifact From the Past up through A Distraction for Akama. Strangely enough, I was awarded the feat of strength, Hand of A'dal, prior to actually turning in A Distraction for Akama. Once Maiev Shadowsong, the Ashtongue Deathsworn posse, and finally Akama entered the Black Temple, the quest requirements were met and I was awarded the feat of strength without yet turning in the quest. However, I was not awarded the title until I had turned in the completed quest.

Doesn't matter which A Distraction for Akama you have.
I just did the quest line for BT attunement ( I was at SSC part of the BT attunment) and the old vial quest.
And I got Hand of A'dal when I was done with everything. proving that even now you can still get the Hand of A'dal title.

I had gotten the title on my warlock pre-3.0, and it survived numerous faction and race changes. For some reason, however, when I did my last change via scroll of resurrection, it wiped the title from the toon, removed the achievement, and gave me the quest The Secret Compromised. I just got around to working back through it, and got the title and achievement again. Weirdest damn thing...
