The title Scarab Lord and the Black Qiraji Resonating Crystal ("black bug mount") are obtained by the first player on the realm to complete Bang a Gong!, which opens the gates of Ahn'Qiraj. More than one player per realm may still complete the quest and receive both title and mount, provided they do so within ten hours of the gates opening.

The black bug mount may be used anywhere ground mounts can be used and inside Ahn'Qiraj. There are other, differently colored bug mounts which drop from creatures inside Ahn'Qiraj, and may only be used while inside.

Criteria only shows Bang a Gong! quest as required, there are no Black Qiraji Resonating Crystal. However it is possible to complete quest after opening, you just don't get the title and legendary mount!
Anybody can confirm this?

Through server transfer,players can still get this.
One server can creat many "Scarab Lord".

According to what the author said，with this ONE gate opened，there're 60 more Scarab Lords in the world now.

It'll take another 90 days as usual before any migration is allowed, so people will have another chance to go get this achievement in a few months (end of April / early May at the latest).

You will need some help, but the number of people depends a lot on how good they are (and how well equipped in some cases). Your best bet would be to get a regular group together for the following:

Early Quests: Blackwing Lair 3rd boss

Red Sceptre Shard: Blackwing Lair 5 hour run

Blue Sceptre Shard: Maws, Dr Weavil (tip: use a pet as tank), Blasted Lands demons (perhaps), Molten Core trash, Ragnaros, Onyxia, Blackwing Lair for elementium ore (need 10)

Green Sceptre Shard: Twilight Corruptor, Emerald Portal dragonkin, Eranikus

I think that just about covers the group work - obviously depending on class you may be able to solo Onyxia or something (even if you can't 3-man her or something).

But i read that most of the items quest (such as the Head of the Broodlord, or the chapters that drop from Ragnaros, Onyxia, Nefarian, etc.) are 1 drop per kill.

The head of the Broodlord drops for the entire raid (epic item now, no longer 1-off). Certainly the "Draconic for Dummies" require free for all looting for you to get it (obviously people not on the quest can't see them), and the shards themselves (eg from Neffy) I can't remember. If other comments here (and Wowwiki) can't help with that then play it safe and put it on FFA looting for Nefarian too, ninja Ashkandi, and sell it via GM ticket...
Okay maybe not that last bit, but best to play it safe if you're not sure.

Did you find a group in your guild and all of you did it together, or a PUG, or just good friends you had?

I'm fortunate in that on Kul Tiras there's a bunch of good people in various guild who used to like running pre-TBC dungeons a lot. Slacking now due to Northrend, but I hope to get them started again when I get back. I'd certainly advise against PuG groups for it though, due to lack of experience, ninja looters and the free for all looting requirement.

I think I can almost guarantee that the gates on Saurfang will be opend before the migration is available. There are loads of people levling just to do the chain there, and the war efforts always completes quite fast on English realms :)

EDIT: Saurfang gates have been opened, and Ulduar's will soon follow. Achievement is now unobtainable.

For players on EU servers hoping to transfer and bang the gong, Ulduar and Saurfang realms will be your last EVER chance to do this. However with the ease the chain is completed at 80, it is unlikely you'll even get the opportunity.

Going forward, the gates of Ahn’Qiraj will start out open on all new realms that are created. While we recognize that this is a unique event, we feel that the complexity of this event can cause various issues that negatively impacts a player’s game play experience. By automatically opening the gates and allowing immediate access to the Ahn’Qiraj instances, we would like to promote the higher level content that is available as well as ensure a smooth overall experience for players on these new realms.

EDIT: This post still contains relevant historic details that will be of interest for anyone wanting to learn about the actual difficulties and planning that were required to be one of the last to get this achievement on both EU and US servers. References to realm forums have been wiped with the Battle.net migration pre-Cataclysm. Warcraft Realms will reflect current data and not what's referred to.

When I posted this (last week of February 2009) about a month since new the realms were started, there were about 2 months left to plan on partaking in the last chance ever of any character anywhere in WoW to obtain the mount and title. Period.

These predictions came true, to the dismay of hundreds (thousands?) of players hoping to transfer to bang the gong and get the Black Qiraji Battle Tank. The possibility that the War Effort might easily be completed before PCTs were allowed kept being denied, in spite of educated guesses which turned out to be confirmed well ahead of time. On both Saurfang and Ulduar, the gates were opened in the first half of April, several weeks before PCTs were allowed.

Those who re-rolled got what their time and effort was worth. The natives got to build a community around it, starting out the new realms greatly and should be congratulated.

On a personal note, I did my best to explain what the actual progress was like. If anyone took my advice I'm glad to have helped more people get it too! It really has a special flavor to own this and what makes it even better is to share with others and meet and talk with those who went through the trouble themselves!

Keep in mind, that these will be the last realms to open with the AQ gates , thus making this the last chance of acquiring the Scarab Lord title.

Having been present at the last event on Area 52, I felt obliged to share a few hints for those who are unsure about re-rolling and particularly unaware of the very real possibility of the War Effort getting done before transfers are allowed, as most would leave their chances up with waiting for migrations to be allowed while finishing their quest lines calmly on their home realms.

The greatest danger is in how people sometimes don't realize that the progress speeds up quickly (exponentially), until it's too late. While the first half of the Effort is done slowly, with players leveling up and so on, the second half, consisting of now-easily farmable low level trade materials, the hardest being Runecloth (Horde turn-in), can be done in under a week by only a couple dozen dedicated level 80s, even though they'll take their time getting most of their quest lines completed first. Also, a lot of them will store loads of materials for last minute turn-ins so they can decide the day and time they want for the event to start. Therefore, the estimations on tracking sites won't be accurate at all as to when to expect the Effort to be done. If this happens up to 5 days before PCTs are enabled, you've lost your chance.

The website/addon is simply able to gather information on the current average rate of deliveries and calculate how long it would take for the remainder to be completed at that current rate. Since completion is now set to happen in 90-100 days, it means that progress only needs to speed up around 50% more to beat the clock. At 2 months left and few level 80s playing compared to what it will be in a couple weeks, we can safely say that time is short and there's no reason for you to wait.

In conclusion: if you really really want to make absolutely sure you get it, consider a re-roll right now. Ask yourself if anything in WoW right now is actually making you too busy for that. If you're worried that your old main might not get it, consider how upset it would make you not ever getting it at all even when you have one day to do it now. If the latter matters the most to you, my recommendation is clear. The "worst" thing that can happen if you do this, is getting two Scarab Lords, instead of none. Recruit-a-Friend and transfering out of the realm with the new character are available immediately, so it would be a safe bet.

Saurfang already has a significant ammount of re-rollers (as can be understood through their realm forums). This isn't only because of AQ, but about the appeal of a legitimately "legendary" realm name that many players wanting to re-roll for any reason will enjoy (imagine how many would want to play on the *Chuck Norris* realm).

For estimates of current progress, you should make your re-roll/transfer plans by keeping a close eye not just on the actual AQ War Effort turn-ins, but also make reasonable, informed assumptions about the realm's populations. On Warcraft Realms there's data that averages on 10 daily entries currently, but you can make it even better if you're there often by installing their lightweight census addon which offers a lot more than you can do using the /who command. The guild with the most members there is <Union>, which has already cleared Naxxramas 10. Having spoken personally with some, higher leveled players there fully expect for the Effort to be done before PCTs.

As for the German realm, Ulduar, it's quite similarly paced: only a week behind. They also have AQ threads on their realm forum, but only German is allowed.

Feragas mentioned that Ткач Смерти(RU) was also closed.

Also, some notes for US players:

From what I could see, Garrosh (US-PvE), Borean Tundra (US-PvE), Winterhoof (US-PvE) and Wyrmrest Accord (US-RP) all started in January 2009 (see "Online Date"), same as Saurfang (EU-PvE) and Ulduar (DE-PvE).

Looking into the realm data and also through their realm forums, you can see the large ammount of active characters already in them. For instance, Borean Tundra and Wyrmrest Accord are already in the top 20 most populated realms in the whole of US right now. All of them are non-PvP realms, which, all things being equal, lowers in-game attrition between factions and helps to speed up mat collection progress.

Garrosh is the least populated (although it was online earlier) and therefore your best chance, but with over 15k characters already, more than what Saurfang had by itself, it's quite possible for them to be done with the War Effort before PCTs as well. However, Borean Tundra seems to have a disproportionate ammount of low level players whereas in all the other realms the higher ammount of characters in a given level are found at the top range of 55-80. This makes it predictable that the War Effort progress there will be significantly slower than everywhere else!

FOR US GATE HOPEFULS:
Garrosh (US-PvE), Winterhoof (US-PvE) and Wyrmrest Accord (US-RP) were transfer servers created to lighten the population on other servers, they opened with the Gates Of Ahn'Qiraj already opened and the event closed. The only other server that opened with the gates closed and event intact was Grizzly Hills, unfortunately shorly after the server opened the opening event bugged and started without anyone knowing. Blizzard reset the gates and sadly they bugged again shortly after, only 5 people were able to complete the event. Blizzard then made the decision to leave the gates open as it was in the best interest at the time.

As of this time Borean Tundra (US-PvE), is the only server with the gates of AQ closed and mount and title still attainable. After watching the anti-transfer hate posts in thier forums and the rate at which the War-effort is being completed, I can say that the gates will more than likely be opened before transfers are up in April. Sorry for the bad news.

EDIT: Blizzard posted saying ALL new servers from now on will have the event disabled, Borean Tundra is/was the last chance. Transfers open April 14th BUT their is an auto complete script and the War effort will be auto completed within a month prior to transfers. Basically if you did not reroll and grind it there, Scarab Lord Acheivment is no longer attainable. Atleast for the time being.

As said above, achievment no longer available so don't bother transferring anywhere in hopes of obtaining this. Of course there could be a chance in the future they will allow people to somehow do this but its doubtful.

Patch 3.3 closed the gates on some realms, but in a new and excitingly disappointing way. The roots are now back on the Dias, but the stone plate is not. The reward vendor is missing (the one who offers you the final epic weapon), and the gong is not interactable.

This title is the rarest in the game. On this title alone, you should be able to get into almost any guild in the world. For this reason, I'm sure anyone who sells their account with this title linked to it could probably earn tens of thousands of dollars.

We often see in these large online games bitter-sweet victories and forgettable events; while it is true that the first time you sever the head of VanCleef you feel a surge of pride, it is sullied by the knowledge of the thousands that came before you and those who will soon follow.

Actual history has many more memorable events because they are truly that, history. While the actions are repeatable, none are equal to that original moment in any way, but merely act as homage to that unique moment. This however is one of those true moments of game history, set in a world where history is usually repeatable.

To most they only knew of it second-hand, a friend of a friend hearing something about a hasty Black Wing Lair run; while to others it was a frenzied pace of night-after-night raids and countless hours of grinding to help form this Champion, to help herald in this event.

You may still be able to grasp at shadows of what this once was, and follow the path of those who did it before you, but in this rarest of quests there are none on par with the champions who broke the seal of Ahn’Qiraj to face the would-be god C’Thun, and quest beside us a Scarab Lord.

They, and only they, opened the Gates of Ahn’Qiraj, and ended the Great War Effort.

Just trying to make this a bit clear because read several comments that actually don't know EXACTLY how this event worked. This is a lengthy quest chain approx. 34 quests long. As of patch 4.0 this is still completable the only quest taken out of the chain was "Bang a Gong" which is what rewarded you the legendary mount. I'm not sure if this was intended but when the first person opened the gates, banging the gong was still possible for 10 hours, so more than 1 person per server can accomplish this however, (at least in vanilla WoW and most of BC) it was unlikely that there was another person that could complete bang a gong within the 10 hours because the chain and its entirety was intended for only a very select few to be far at a time. If your a Lore %^&*! you're gonna want to get this done before you can no longer complete it, which i have a feeling will happen because of azshara turning into a lvl 15 questing zone and other possible things. There is a somewhat small rumor that a patch glitched the gong and was completable until fixed only on some servers, even if this is false i wouldn't be 100% sure that it will never happen. The miraculously low chance at obtaining the one and only and ever will be, legendary mount, is worth it in my opinion. One more thing, there will be no AQ gate opening events on future realms EVER! this is fact, there was a blue post on mmo-champ a while ago, you can thank the @#$%s that server transfered just to ninja it and transfer back.

Confirmed: as of patch 4.0.3a this entire quest chain was removed from the game and those that completed it will receive an FoS achievement in a future patch. Reason being (obviously) the drastic changes to zones, quests, NPC's and dungeon quests. Blizzard simply couldn't find a way to keep this in without harming anything.

This achievement was only ninja'd ONCE by a transfer char! This was the first time ever too, that a transfered character became a Scarab Lord. It was back in autumn 2007 on EU-Die Aldor. Die Aldor is a german RP realm. Well, back in these days, Die Aldor was a little bit retarded. They were more busy telling people, that it's not RP-like to run when you're in a city, than leveling their characters. (My ex girlfriend played on this realm, that's the reason why I know so much about this realm. I can't count how often I said to hear "Screw this goddamn retarded realm!" xD)
Nevertheless, 9 months after Die Aldor was opened, a player from England transfered to Die Aldor and ninja'd the mount. Until this point, nobody even knew deffinitely, that it's possible to transfer with a completed scepter and bang the gong. There was a lot of whining on Die Aldor. They complained, that the were already planing their big RP event. But they didn't got even close to a completed scepter after 9 months! xD

For 1 1/2 year, every single new realm managed, to open their gates before the transfer lock was over. In Jan/Feb 2009, there were 3 realms that didn't managed to do this. EU-Area52, EU-Terokkar and EU-Azuremyst. This 3 realms were started shortly before the release of WotLK. There were not enough player that started a new alt at this point. So this 3 realms were low populated and were not able to collect the mats for the war affords. But about a douzen of players, on EACH of this realms, managed to complete a scepter. After 3 months, hundrets of player transfered to this realms and helped to collect the mats for the war affords. Then they opened the gates TOGETHER with the native scepter owners. Ninja'ing means that something gets stolen. But this was NOT the case on this 3 realms! About ~1000 people got their Scarab Lord achievement on this realms. Most of them transfered chars. Some of them chars, that were leveled on this realms.

Shortly after this happened, Blizzard decided to remove the AQ opening. It was not because it was ninja'd. It was because Blizzard wanted that the Scarab Lord achievement remains something special. So stop talking bullsh!t about things, you obviously know NOTHING about!
