Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure you can chug an Elixir of Water Walking, jump down, and run to Lurker's platform. You also might need to Slow Fall (Mage), Levitate (Priest), or simply drink Noggenfogger Elixirs until you get the "You Feel Light..." buff, all to prevent removing the Water Walking due to fall damage... have yet to try it myself though.

Edit: Confirmed! I did this today using the method above. It worked perfectly. I must say that I wish I took my armor off before doing it.

Does anyone know if this will be retroactive? I remember fishing The Lurker Below on my Warrior when my guild was doing Serpentshrine Cavern, so I might get the Achievement if its retroactive.

Just tested something out with my Holy Paladin and I can confirm that the fish will only spawn if you begin swimming in the water, so if you use a water walking potion and stay walk on the water you'll be fine.

If you're revered with the Sha'tari Skyguard, pick up the Skyguard's Drape or the Skywitch's Drape. Use an Elixir of Water Walking (I got mine from the fishing dailies), jump at the water, use the cape for the slow fall effect so you'll land without taking damage, then run over to where the Lurker is fished.

Note that the two capes are on separate cooldowns, so if you're worried you might mess up and waste the 30 minute cooldown, buy both so you have a backup.

This achievement is awefully easy to solo.

I myself am a mage, did it the safe way without any additional pots or anything.
Simply use Invisibility, run past the first pack, onto the second platform, jump down into the water and make sure you are on the first tube on your left before the buff runs out.
After that wait a few minutes until Invisibility is back up, jump down into the water and swim to the second tube, over the planks, down the tube again.
Once again wait for Invisibility to be available, then use it one last time to yet again jump into the water and onto Lurker's platform. From there on it's just fishing and you're done.

All of the above can, of course, also be done with a few Invisibility Potions.

Able to Solo.
I used Slow Fall then used an Elixir of Water Walking.

Went back for friends and they did not get credit. They were not fishing. Perhaps had they been fishing at the time he spawned they all would have got credit.
Apparently people can't follow simple directions. Almost all spells will cancel most water walking effects.
Use your method to slow your fall to the water then use an elixir of water walking.

(Don't rate people down when you can't follow directions)

I had trouble doing this as a priest with Levitate. I kept falling in the water instead of hovering over it. Eventually I did this using a Lesser Invisibility Potion and an Elixir of Water Walking. Use the potion while jumping down and when you're in the water use the elixir and jump up on the water, then casually stroll over and fish up Lurker :) This works for any class!

One of the random effects from the Hallows End Pumpkin Treat is "OoOoOooOo", a 20-minute slowfall and waterwalking buff. Using this I was able to solo this achievement. One stop closer to Salty!

Yes, you can make it to him solo and fish him up for the achievement. You will need a Invisibility Potion & Elixir of Water Walking. Now, go down the first ramp, almost to the first platform. Take the potion and run to the second platform. (be sure to time it with the colossus). You continue running to the left and jump of the "corner" point that sticks out. You should get on the first pipe rather easy.

Now use the elixir to walk straight over to the next pipe. Once on the pipe you can go straight up and down the other side. Once at the bottom by the water I went to the left of the post and almost got eaten but made it to the platform in time. My wife went around the large pipe and walked right on to the platform. It took us about 4 tries to get this figured out.

Be sure to fish in the nude :D

Please note if you are not solo, Lurker will kill your other party members. I died 5 feet from the entrance :(

As others have said, it's an easy solo with the right gear.

For those with no experience of SSC:

Get yourself into a raid group (only need 2 members, and the other doesn't even need to stay logged in or enter the instance with you).

Head into the instance, down the deep elevator, run across to the small one and up to the platform with the nice view of various mob packs and Hydross the Unstable (big angry water elemental). With the elevator behind you and the instance in front, the Lurker is found diagonally to the left ahead of you, with Hydross just to the right.

I used the slow-fall & water-walk technique. Water-walking elixirs from the daily fishing quest work fine, but you need to land gently on the water. If you sink then you take a huge amount of burn damage and get eaten by the nasty fish. If you land softly and walk over the surface then you take no damage at all. Aim for the centre spot of the circle of platforms.

In the centre of the circle of raised platforms with mobs on (they won't aggro at 70), at water level, is a ring of smaller wooden platforms with what looks like a huge mote of water fishing node in the middle. This is where you fish Lurker up from.

Simply get your rod out, stick on a lure (I don't know what skill is required exactly, but I always used a lure) and keep fishing until he appears. You will die, so just wearing the fishing rod is a good idea!

Summoning Lurker does *not* save you to the instance, only killing him does. This is the opposite of summoning Gahz'ranka in Zul'Gurub, where you become saved the moment you cast the Mudskunk Lure.

Soloed this the other day on my shaman. No stealth or slow fall, just water walking.

I soloed this as a 70 hunter. I used a slow fall cape (from skyguard rep) and elixir of water walking x2. Once you enter the instance (you need to be in a raid group of atleast two people) you go down the elevator, then up another smaller elevator. You are now in the main part of the instance and you will see the water almost directly ahead. Use an elixir of water walking and the slow fall cape and jump of the ledge into the water. You will not aggro the fish in the water, but be sure to track the mobs above on the walkways because you can aggro them! You then walk forward and eventually take a left and go past the big columns that you will see. Soon you will see a big pool that looks like a huge fishing node, a few casts in this and you will have your lurker. Feign death and you will not die, other classes, do whatever it is you do. If you get lost, just orient yourself to the instance map, there are lots of things to get your bearings off of. I hope this helps you get the achievement.

Im at 265 unbuffed now, and only have lures to increase it with. ( no hat, shoes etc. ).

Very very easy, I did it as a level 70 mage, 300 fishing. Just took a shaman with me (2nd account) and cast slow fall, and water walking. Just walked to his platform and had no issues, I thought I'd be a little harder but it isn't.

SUMMARY OF ALL GARBAGE POSTS ABOVE:

1) Walk on Water works fine - get a shaman or the fishing daily Elixir of Water Walking
2) If you are not a rogue, you need a slowfall mechanic. Skyguard rep or a Noggenfogger elixir will work fine. Drink it until it says "You feel light..."
3) Do not walk straight down or you start to swim and get eaten.
4) Lurker requires 300 fishing.
5) Lurker is located by getting to the first pack of trash and turning ~45 degrees left and running in a straight line. There is a circle of wood with a hole in the middle, fish in the middle.

If you were a raider then you'd know that part of the strategy to kill Lurker is to jump into the water when we vomits. If the fish were still alive then the whole raid would get eaten when they jump in.

The fish die as soon as all trash packs surrounding Lurker are killed, they apparently control steam pumps of some sort. Although you don't have to click anything to deactivate them, simply killing them all is sufficent.

Form a raid with one other person

As a mage I used slowfall then a water walking pot. Jumped down into the water but didn't land on the surface so I just jumped really fast and got on top of the water without taking damage.

The rest is easy... just run over towards the left to the circle and fish in it. May take a couple of tries to get the Lurker but eventually you will.

After reading through everyone's comments, and getting frustrated that paladins had no way of slowfalling, I had a think and came up with a theory, and with testing I can prove it works.

As you get onto the ramp in ssc looking out over the water, pop Divine Shield and then hit your water walking pot. Jump down and start running, bubble = no fall damage = no buff breaking. No slowfall required.

Can anybody confirm that slowfall/water-walk has worked for them recently? I tried three times this evening and every time my character fell through the surface of the water and got destroyed by fish. Tried consuming the water-walking elixir before and after using slowfall, and also cancelling my slowfall before I hit the water.

Since nobody's posted about this trick this month, I hope this may have got hotfixed and I'm not actually this bad at the game.

This is possible to do if you don't have water walking too, as I was out of the elixirs at the time.

I ran past the first group and up the ramp that has the first bog lord patting down it. Dropped off into the water and swam to the nearest pipe. By the time I got there I had around 2-3 of the frenzies on me. Run far enough up the pipe and you'll go out of combat, eat, then jump off the side and swim to the next pipe. This pipe goes between two big naga platforms and right on the other side is Lurker's pool.

Of course, if you have an elixir or can water walk/levitate you'd be silly not to.

Drunk a waterwalking pot from the fishing daily, jumped off the left side just before the 1st pack then after i sunk, jumped up, and was able to run along to where lurker is located.

Here is a observation to help prevent some confusion. Beofre trying to enter Serpentshire Cavern you need to just enter the other Coilfang instances before SSC unlocks for you. You don't have to do any of the other zone contents, just enter and exit the zones. Like many Death Knights I skipped these instances simply I was leveling so fast and the rewards mediocre but mostly, now with Lich King open, getting a group for these instances can ensue a long, painful and often fruitless wait.

I just did it with the help of Noggenfogger Elixir and Elixir of Water Walking. Easy. Start with Water Walking and then Noggenfogger until you feel light, then step over the edge and land smoothly on the water. Walk over to the Lurker Below. Get naked and fish.

Death Knights that try this should keep your gear on when you first start this if you're not using any kind of slow falling potions or abilities. You can easily slip past the first group. Right before you aggro the second group jump over the edge. Head for the first pipe. You will know which one that is when you jump. I tried this nekkid and quickly died no matter when I tried to jump in. As stated in a previous post, the fish are scripted to spawn when you enter the water. Having gear on will help you survive long enough to hit the pipe. When you get to the pipe, bandage or eat and wait for the fish to despawn. Strip nekkid and turn on Path of Frost. You can run directly to the Lurker's ring from there with no trouble from the fish below. It took 5 casts for him to show up and 2 hits from him to die.

If you got an Elixir of Water Walking or are a DK you can do the water walking trick without slow fall.

Activate water walking ability or chug a pot.
Make sure you got a frost rune off cooldown (or that your pot CD is cool).
Jump.
You will land on the water, taking the damage (water walking will fade), but you will stand on the water for a short period of time. During this time you should jump and while in mid air activate water walk again.

i was doing this with my 80 DK friend and i got the achivemnt first, then we got back there after the thing killing us and it turns out he had crap fishing to get his, so i thought id be funny to fish infront of him. So he was leaving to get his skill up a little and i was still fishing in the pool place. I cought some beer the first time and then the second time, the fishy poped up again and murdered us :D. So u CAN do this more than once

(if its a factor or anything, we just came in for that and were not saved to the place or nothing)

No. Retroactive means that if you did it before achievements went live, you would still have credit for the achievement. This is not the case. You will not get credit for this achievement for any time you fished up the Lurker prior to the achievement being added to the game.

Completed this achivement last week very easily as an 80 rogue. I followed the platforms around to the left while stealthed with no problems. Use glyphed sprint (while stealthed) to get over the small area of water between the pipe and Lurker's pool. I didn't vanish in time, so he did kill me...but no pots needed. Took me about five minutes! No improved stealth talents.

Did this as a hunter without the cape. ONLY with the Water Walking Potion from the daily.

Entered, jumped into the water, FD'd immediately, used the Potion, jumped and made sure I was looking up, kept walking until the lurker spot, fished him up, FD'd as soon as I got the achievement, moved then hearthed.

Lurker won't despawn after you FD, until you move.

Solo'd as a lvl 80 prot pally. no waterwalking, no slowfall.

I went up the second elevator before the first trash pull, looked over the water and there was a pipe not too far in. So i jumped in, got halfway, popped Divine Shield, and got on the pipe.

Then a second pipe was pretty close, so I healed up and swam to it, walked up and between two platforms full of mobs, went down an adjacent pipe and jumped in the water 10 yards from the lurker spawn point. fished him up first cast with 450 fishing. died in 6 hits.

Hopefully that'll help some paladins who don't have or want to buy any pots.

Just did this achievement 2/2/2009 Patch 3.0.8. For whatever reason, Elixir of Water Walking did NOT work for me. 80 resto druid, I simply stealthed past every patrol and group, none of them can see invisibility.

LV80 hunter, using full hateful gear i jumped into the water at the first pack (petless), called my gorilla din into action, he got aggro on the fish, i jumped onto the close pipe and Feign death.

I healed to full then did it again to get to the 2nd pipe, and the same to get to lurkers platform, took off my gear and fished him up.

Just finished this quest as an 80 Hunter with a fishing skill of 308+20 from pole and 100 from Aquadynamic Fish Attractor. Its very easy if you watch ( Zemalf )video on were to go and use Elixir of Water Walking and Noggenfogger Elixirs till you get light as a feather then just jump an go. Thats what i did.

On my mage, i used the elixir of water walk and slow falled down 45 degrees to the left from where the elevator was...then i just ran until I saw the picture in the screenshot... opened a portal and started fishing... i actually had to open 3 portals before he appeared :p

You don't need slow fall, as a death knight i jumped down took the fall damage and in the same second jumped up and activated Path Of Frost.

Completed solo as an 80 warrior using the Elixir of Water Walking and Noggenfogger Elixirs according to the comments above. FYI - if you exit the raid group before leaving the instance the waterfall will reappear, stopping you from exiting so get out of there first then exit group.

I just tried this using a combination of water-walking elixir and the flexweave underlay engineering enchant and can confirm what others said above that the slow fall doesn't land you on the water.

But, I then tried Bryndis' suggestion first, and dropped off the platform and made it to the first pipe. I then used the Elixir of Waterwalking and tried just walking off the pipe onto the water - and that didnt' work either. I didn't get damaged and got back out, and then tried jumping (from a short height) and still went into the water - not on top of it. So, it appears that Elixir of Waterwalking does NOT work at all in SSC.

Easy for a warrior/pld/dk or maybe bear druid. Just jump in water, use damage mitigation cds and head for nearest pipe. Jump on, wait for hate to reset, water pot then good to go. i was prot and popped shield wall, last stand and enraged regen. Got to pipe with about 25% hp left.

Since no one has really addressed a small group getting this achievement, let me add that each person in the raid desiring the achievement must fish him up individually. Other groups members do not get credit for standing by and waiting for him to appear. You must fish.

We tried having other raid members stand outside while one person soloed it. They were unable to re-enter even after the first performer had ghetto hearthed. A new raid had to be formed.

So you will need to find a way to have him despawn so another person can fish him up again. Unlike the Deadliest Catch, you can't kill him and have others just cast their lures. We confirmed that Lurker despawns for rogues when they vanish. The shaman, having no such tricksy ability met death while running away still water-walked. When she died, Lurker despawned again, leaving the feigning hunter to stand up, fish him up and feign again.

We didn't try having everyone fish to see if the entire group who was fishing would receive the achievement when he spawns. This would be an interesting experiment for future excursions with alts.

There is also another method which works (the one I used) if you don't have the rep for the Skyguard Drape or aren't an engineer.

If you soulstone yourself (or get a warlock to soulstone you), you can jump directly into the water and die. Once you use your soulstone, the water stays normal and the frenzies do not reappear. I just jumped in, died, used my soulstone and swam directly to Lurkers platform.

Note - If you leave the water and reenter, you will once again be at risk of frenzies and the water temperature.

Do this achievement with a friendly priest, the new group levitation allows priests to buff people in their grp. Might be a problem if you both want the reward but as we all know there are ways around that.

Grabbed 20 noggen flogger pots and 1 water walking potion, took both elevators, drank the water walking pot, took 8 noggens til I got the feeling light buff, jumped down and ran to the ring, 4th cast up comes the lurker, ran away and FD'd out of combat. Hearthed out.

First, thank you for the helpful posts above.

Did this as a prot warrior, very easy - keep your gear on, hop in, swim to first pipe, wait for fishies to leave, then pop potion and walk over. It's been said.

My 2 cents - most classes should be able to get to the first pipe - for mitigation classes, be sure to strafe so you move full speed but dodge/parry/block etc. I was only down to 80% by the time I got to the pipe, only used dodge trinket and shield block + lavanthor's trinket.

Also, when I fished him up, I backed up from the water as soon as I saw the achievement pop and hearthed out before he engaged me. All too easy.

In summary, if you can last against ~6-8 fish for the 15-25sec to swim to the pipe, you're set, only need waterwalking x1. GL :)

At lvl 80 there is another way, that maybe works at 70 either: use an invisibility potion to avoid first two bog lords and first two naga groups. Then, when you reach the third naga group there is a pipe on the right that leads you softly to water. Go down the pipe and use the water walking elixir to walk to Lurker's place.

I have just found the PERFECT way to do this as a paladin. Run to the edge near where you have to jump into the water and drink your water walking potion. Stand right on the edge and JUMP. When you do this, proc your handy Unusual Compass. This will reset your fall distance if you time it completely correctly. You therefore do not lose your potion. Also, being a paladin when you fish him up you can bubblehearth :) Easy achievement

I just successfully achieved this about five minutes ago using Path of Frost and Unusual Compass. Activate Path at the ledge and jump... at apex of jump, use the compass. You should land ont he water with path on and take no falling damage because of the fall, so it won't break path.

Note: Paladins can use Divine Shield (Hand of Protection should work too, haven't tried it though) to eliminate falling damage if using a water walking mechanic.

The only problem is to wait for Forbearance and/or cooldowns to finish before bubble-hearthing. ^_~

Just got through soloing this as a lvl 80 paladin. Popped an elixir of water walking and then bubbled as i jumped down into the water so I didn't take any fall damage. I had a base skill of 223 fishing while using a +20 fishing pole and a +75 lure. Got him on my 2nd cast :D

80 Druid, walked in, up the elevators, stealthed a little ways in then hit the water and swam to the ring fished him up and tried to make a run for it...between the lurker attacks and the super-sonic Parana's I was dead in about 00:00:05, but I got my achievement :-D

My advice get as close as you can before you drop in the drink. Levitate is the best option for those that can.
480 total fishing, took me 4 casts...

Just did this on a rogue with the glyph that allows you to walk on water when sprint is active. 7-8 casts, lurker came up, tossed up evasion and survived for about 20 secs, I'm sure everyone can get out of there if they run or something. I did not use anything but sprint, didn't even need to stealth tbh. I'm lvl 80.

Very easy following the directions above regarding slow fall/water walking.

Just a caveat. If you have pets, leave them at home. When you fall into the water they will get attacked and die. And then the lurker will kill them again.

Take off your armor as stated before.

Just completed this achievement as a DK.

Had a cloak on with flexweave underlay, entered the instance and went up the first big lift and the second smaller one. When facing the mobs I used Path of Frost and jumped, activating the cloak to float down to the water softly. I ran across the water diagonally to the left and there's some wooden platforms on the water with a 'strange pool' in the centre. I opened a Death Gate, started fishing and on the fifth go the Lurker appeared. Jumped into the Death Gate to avoid a death, easy! Achievement attained. Now on to Ironforge...

Right. Without stealth and without using any kind of slowfall buff, here is how we did it: Level 80 DK (using path of frost), level 80 Hunter. The hunter used a tanking pet (he had a worm, but I'm guessing any tanking pet will do). We snuck past the first group by staying as far to the left of the walkway as possible. At the second group, where the patrolling plant thingy is, we waited for the plant guy to head away from us, aggro'd the second group using the pet, then jumped from the left corner of that platform (it has a torch, the first one you come to) and swam to the pipe. If you swim fast enough, and keep jumping from the water, you can make it without dying. You will take damage, so make sure you're at full health before you try it. Once we reached the pipe, we ran up it until we left combat, then stopped to heal up. Using path of frost, we walked across the water to the next pipe (you can't miss it, it's really close). Then we walked up that pipe (not across the water under it). There are no mobs on the bridge at that pipe, so you can just keep walking across it until you reach the other side. Again using path of frost, we made the short walk from the end of the pipe to the Strange Pool.

As for the achievement itself, we both had to fish it up individually. Note that you don't have to kill the boss, just fish him up, to get the achievement. You will need some sort of invisibility skill to despawn the boss, and avoid a painful death, if you're doing this solo. We are both night-elves, so we just used shadowmeld. I don't have a solution for people without any kind of skill like that, so just die and rez at the spirit healer I guess.

I will be going back in to solo it with my own hunter to see if it's possible to do this without water-walking buffs as well. I'm fairly well convinced that it's possible to make it without using water walking or slowfall buffs. It may even be possible without a tanking pet or minion. Could be useful information for anyone who wants to solo it but doesn't have any kind of slowfall/shield/water walking potions/skills.

I can confirm that it's doable as a paladin (lvl 80) aswell.
I hugged the edge and ran just by the first pack without getting aggro from them. Then I jumped to the water, bubbled and swimmed to the nearest pile to get out of combat of the small fish. Then I used my water-walking eliksir and ran to lurker. After 2 casts I got it!

A BIG THANK YOU to Zemalf for his nice video showing his journey towards the Lurker. I've never been to SSC, so this was a good way to get an idea of where to run and how everything looked inside.

Easy cakes on a mage with an elixir of water walking. Glad I did vendor these when I got em from the fishing daily. After going down the first elevator, up the second, you can walk past the first group of mobs (at least at lvl 80). Watch out for the bog lord and get as close as your dare before jumping for the water. Pre-cast slowfall, I dropped halfway down before the effect started (lag). The elixir kept me walking on the water the whole time, never saw a piranha. Cast a dalaran portal, fished 3 times, and fled when a giant sea monster lept out of the water.

If you just drop down with the water walking pot you will drop through, the fish bite you and remove the effect.

i was able to do this as an 80 resto shaman with no extra items. i moved down the path closer to the 2nd platform with out aggroing the first pat. i dropped my healing stream and stone skin totems, and gave myself earth shield. i was able to jump left off the platform and get onto the closest pipe before the fish could get me below 50%. from there i used water walking.

Ok I am sure a Deathknight has already figured this out but with 3 attempts I finally figured out how to do this, when you get to the point were everyone else floats down and runs across the water there on the right will be a group of four, at lvl 80 you can hug the left side and walk past them, proceed up the ramp waiting for the Bog elite to path back your way, take an invisibilty potion and run past him and the group, right after that there is a tube leading down to the water on your right proceed to the end of the tube, Use path of frost then run over to the Lurkers platform.

Just did this quest with a lvl 70 paladin and his fishing was 81. Thought he could not fish up the lurker because of his fishing lvl. I told him to keep fishing and he did and a good thing because he caught the lurker for the achievement. So for previous post that said fishing lvl 300 required....that may have been before but as of tonight......Not required lol. As some stated before when you get to the platform to fish him up, it's not long before you catch him up.

Also wanted to point out that the elixir for walking on water helped as well as hand of protection from the paladin. We used both and did not get eaten by the fish and also did not come close to the mobs. Basically we did not have to kill anything to get to him but............We did die after fishing him up and getting the achievement lol

For some reason I'm unable to even enter the instance. I know attunement isn't needed anymore. Formed a raid grp and I couldn't even get past the waterfalls. Anyone else have this issue?

An alternate way to using Noggenfogger elixir or slow fall/levitate:

If you're a class without either of slow fall or levitate and oyu haven't done the quest for the Noggenfogger elixir there's an alternate (and probably just as easy) way to do it. Buy an invisibility potion or have an alchemist make you one. Also bring a waterwalking elixir.

Get inside SSC, take the lift down, walk over to other lift and go up. Now you will see a huge pool with a sort of road/bridge thingy with mobs on it. Sneak past the first group, just stick close to the edge and you should be fine (assuming you're lvl 80 of course). Now look to your left and you should see a pipe going down into the water over by the wall. Swallow your potion, jump down and swim over to the pipe. Get up, drink your waterwalking elixir and walk over to the circle of wood with a hole in the middle, remember to keep your camera pointed directly ahead and not downwards as this will make you dive (and die).

You can do it with waterwalking alone, if you're at lvl 80 and able to kill big shamblers. Jump off the platform near the second pack of mobs (need to be careful not to aggro them), and there's a pathway to the water. No need for slowfall.

Just did this as a hunter without slowfall (I tried getting the Noggenfogger slowfall buff, but I only had like five of them and none applied it to me).

Anyway, I jumped straight into the water without waterwalking on. Naturally, this immediately had a fish attacking me, but I just feigned death and got out of combat. I then drank a waterwalking potion and quickly jumped onto the surface. Nothing bad happened. I ran to the Lurker's pool, and fished him up. The moment I got the achievement, I ran away and feigned death again, confusing the evil fish so it despawned.

I do so love being a hunter <3 No repair costs.

Completed this last night as Orc Warrior with Undead Mage to assist. Elixir of water walking and Mage slow fall onto the water. I have fishing 450 and caught third attempt, wiped and went back in. Mage has only level 192 fishing and caught him first cast. Seems the level 300 fishing people claim you need is not correct. It is worth mentioning that Mage had no lures or additional fishing skill.

Do not fish this up while your raid group is inside the instance during an AFK/bio break. Upon fishing up the lurker, it will put everyone into combat and they will die! I didn't see this mentioned anywhere in the comment pages, and needless to say my raid was a little bit #$%^ed...

I did this with 2 80s, a death knight and a warrior tank, both fairly geared. we killed the first few mobs: the 2 giants, and the 3 groups, and walked down the nearby tube to the water and used frost path to walk to the fishing spot, where we took turns( after dieing once of course ) to get the achievement. Was very fun, hope this helps.

For any Paladins attempting this w/o any of the above mentioned slowfall abilities/items, a simple trick is to just drink your Elixir of Water Walking, pop Divine Shield and then jump. You wont take any fall damage and thus you wont lose the water walking buff.

I took this yesterday morning, and by what I read here in the comments, it was a little confused how to get.

1) The location of the boss .... not you planned well, then just when I was personally in RAID ... is in the middle of the main and largest "Serpentshrine Cavern", flooded more local you go through the ramp suspended over the water, right in the middle of the map you will see a circle of brilliant blue water and stone in the middle, and place there. ...

2) means of getting it .... like I was in the same raid, to kill the last Boss, a dk solved the problem of the whole RAID, but it has several methods in order to walk there, and if you are level 80, you take 500 damage in the water, little is d you have a 30k life, even though I am rogue with 8k armor, not die, because the distance that you fall into the water until the SPOT fishing and short ...

dK> buff
must have other, not remember all ...

not difficult, so come down and catch it, get the Archive, "kill the boss or die tryin "

Mage 80 = went in slowfall to water then took water walking potion, ran over, took off all my gear to avoid damage and fished - took 5-6 casts - fished him up, died but got a shiney achievement and no repair bill :)

5) Lurker is located by getting to the first pack of trash and turning ~45 degrees left and running in a straight line. There is a circle of wood with a hole in the middle, fish in the middle.

As Prot Warrior I just ran off into the water - never lost more than 5k HP running from pipe to pipe.
Fish naked FTW and your 5 min achievement is complete.

Go get some Pumpkin Treat (to be sure, find take like 20. Rachelle Gothena sells them in front of Org AH) You can get them with various Hallow's End quest too, and Treat bag)
Group with anybody, change to Raid.
Go to Serpentshrine Cavern.
Down the elevator, walk a bit, go up the next elevator.
Use your treat till you get "OooOoOoOo" buff. You will levitate and waterwalk (1 min cooldown if its not the good buff)
Walk to the circle shape island and fish in the pool.
As soon as you get your achivment, use you hearthstone. You'll have time to not get any aggro if you're quick.

Ok. So here's how i did this without any potion, and with a hunter:

You can go past the first pack.

Send your pet to attack the next grp which will put you in combat so you can use disengage. Turn your back towards the pipe that is to the left from the regular way and if you are tricky enough you will land on the pipe's lower end. Make sure you run up on the pipe far away from the water as those damn fishes gonna keep hitting you unless you run like 20 yards away or so. (Thats what killed me mostly on my unsuccessful tries.)

Dismiss your pet and hit FD. If you needed to use deterrence wait a little so you can use it again on the next move. You can now move close to the water again, you wont aggro the fishes. Turn your face in the direction, where the pipe goes under the water. You'll see an other pipe to your left. Thats your next goal. Either you can use a deterr-diseng combo or have ur pet on passive for a while and once your health is getting low, set him on defensive. It will instantly pull all the fishes off you. So just run up again.

Rez your pet if needed. You run up crossing the reagular way, stay on this very same pipe, the other end of it also goes back under the water, like 15 yards away from the lurker's pool. So again send your pet to attack the nearest pack, you get disengage again and there you are. You can wait for deterrence to come off CD before every move if you want to do this supersafe.

Zone in...run around the first pack, left side..they won't aggro

Jump down....swim toward the left side tube.... I died from the fishies .but had a Soulstone up...used it and jumped up on it.

Used elixir of water walking....ran to the next tube..up across and down...and to the Lurkers area.

Fished him up. Easy stuff.

Used the SOLO LURKER video on YouTube..some gnome did it..worked great :)

I got it on my DK without even knowing it existed, i was doing the raid and i decided to fool around and jumped in the water, turns out no fish spawned so i was like Yay! And then i saw the water in the pool churn so i was like hmm.. maybe i can catch some special fish.. lets just say we wipe and disbanded.. but at least i got an achieve :D

Took a mage with me. She placed slowfall on me, I drank a water walking potion, faced my camera "up" and jumped. No problems. She followed and created a portal for us to escape in. As soon as we saw the achievement pop, I clicked the portal first, followed by the mage.

make sure you mage has some steely nerves because if they panic and click first, you are doomed! The achievement will pop right away, and then the lurker has to go through his surfacing animation, so you do have some time.

TO SUM UP EVERY GARBAGE POST ON HERE, INCLUDING THE ONE THAT STATES TO SUM UP THE GARBAGE POSTS BEFORE IT:
(Intended if you are 80+, have a couple of speed potions and walking on water potions, and possibly invisibility potions ready)

1. Form a raid, even if it's just yourself doing this, get a friend to create a raid group.
2. Go to Zangarmarsh to the Coilfang area, dive down to the resevoir, and Serpentshrine Cavern is directly in front of you when you come up for air. It looks like a giant waterfall/wall. If you are not in raid, you can't get in. In raid, you can walk right through it and in to it.
3. Once you're in, immediately in front is your elevator down. Do NOT jump down. This is an elevator and jumping down without Levitate or Slow Fall will kill you because it's too high. Wait for the elevator and take it down.
4. Once you're down, going around either side will get you to yet another elevator this time going up. Take it.
5. Once you're there, directly in front are mobs, but the point here is to get to The Lurker without fighting anything. You are going to head directly past them going forward until you get to a ring in the water that looks like wood forming an octagon (or something close to that shape). If you search for The Lurker in a screenshot, you'll see the floating wood that you are looking for.
6. Frenzied crazy fish will mob up and kill you and fast, so you may have to jump on a nearby pipe and run up to take cover so this is where traveling towards the circular wooden planks is the only tricky part.
7. On my priest, I levitated towards the wood, on my rogue, I stealthed and used sprint to get there (I also gave a glyph to walk on water while sprinting). If you're anything else, use potions.
8. Once you get to the octagon shaped wood, you need to fish in the center of it. After a few casts, I'm sure you'll get it! He'll come up and kill you. If you don't go invisible you'll die. But hey.. even if you don't at least you get the achievement anyway.

A couple notes:
-If you are a druid or a rogue, you can stealth past anything to get down to the water. No slowfalling necessary.
-If you are a night elf, you can shadowmeld as soon as you fish up the Lurker and he will despawn. Hurray for not dying!
-Every fish you catch while trying to fish up lurker counts for That's A Lot of Bait.

An 85 Mage and my 85 Druid tried to do this but the instance wouldn't let us in. In fact, it didn't even give us the usual "You Are Not in a Raid" warning. No other error messages. The other three instances were working fine. We did all the usual stuff; formed a group, changed it to a raid, but no luck. Might be glitched - reported it but just a warning that you might not be able to do this immediately.

If you're trying to do it as a level 85 now, you can by past most of the trash groups on your way by just going the "normal" way, or just simply swim to his platform. As most people have enough health + some kind of healing to just outheal the fishes in the water. But if you don't have any of those, I'd suggest taking the "normal road" most of the way.

Right, as 85 warlock I have no spells or anything to drop me softly or levitate or anything... but it is definitely possible to swim there. I found this out after we used all our water walking pots.

So... This is where you jump down to swim it. Where the elemental boss is (you can sneak past him without aggroing him at 85, just be careful) you will see a platform to his left full of naga, where the path leads in you can jump down and swim to the pool where the lurker is. I've only just made a wowhead account so i dunno how to show maps or anything like that so just look up where the pool is, get as close as you can and swim like hell lol, don't stop.

(you might need a friend to help you with the trash to get to the point where you jump down, I solo'ed them but my gear isn't too shabby)

As 85 balance druid, I stealthed by all the mobs on the way to the fishing pool, then jumped down into the water. Lots of fish will start attacking, but they only did about 500 damage per hit, so it was no problem to survive. Once I made it to the platform that surrounds the fishing pool (only takes like 5-10 seconds to swim to it if you drop down near it) I dropped aggro from the fish because of being on the platform. Fished up the achievement, then died not too long afterwards. The achievement fish will keep knocking you into the water with a ranged attack, so you basically just have to try and swim away if at all possible.. though you'll probably just die.

Long story short, at 85 you can by pass all of the adds in there, you only need 200 fishing with a 100 fishing lure attachment, I was able to fish him up today with a 200 fishing level and the lure.

You do not need to jump, the elevator now works for a single person entering the instance.

Out of sheer boredom tried it today, was going to take a priest with me but as it turned out, no need and I went in solo with my 85 hunter. Elevators worked, I went past the first pack of mobs to the ledge that descended to the water (i was afraid of fall damage before i use Potion of water walking), so - go to the water, use potion, run to the strange pool and fish. Took me 19 casts. As a hunter you can't use Camouflage because you are in a combat right after you fish him up, but as a SV hunter you can stay alive for a minute and enjoy the funny Lurker as he kills you slowly.

I thought the comments here were horrible and need updating for Cataclysm Salty seekers. To this end, I have submitted a nice screenshot with a overview of what you are swimming for (instead of a large 90% filled shot of the mob you are trying to fish up, complete with giant label over his head, which doesn't help tell me where I need to be).

Get into the Serpentshrine Caverns raid. It's really obvious where to go as there is a dead end to a down elevator, then, another dead end to an up elevator. From there, you take a walkway similar to any of the Coifang dungeons to a platform, kill mobs (these are moss guys and naga and rays), then turn left to a platform and kill more mobs. I did not have much trouble soloing sensible pulls on my Fury warrior, but did not aggro the room. I did try some water walking pots but the frenzies kept getting me. I do not recommend this way.

On about the second platform, you see a Strange Pool. See picture (link above).

How are you going to see it? It's surrounded by a little floating raft-looking ring, so obvious that you will know you are supposed to stand on and fish. Assuming you know a thing about fishing. How do you get to it? When you are on that second circular platform, heading right to left, you will use a tube ramp to walk down toward the Strange Pool and you have to swim about 30 yards with Frenzies biting at you. Do not fight them; just keep swimming to the raft ring/wall contraption and get out of combat. I tried fighting them and counted about 5 lvl 70 elite frenzies and couldn't kill or self heal so just swim to safety.

Three casts or so, boom, out comes this huge mob, achievement earned, probably die after like I did but so what.

This was pretty easy as a level 70 paladin without any potions or buffs or anything like that. After coming up the second lift, I jumped in the water and swam over to the nearest pipe on the left to reset the fish. I had my tank gear on so I was OK for 2 or 3 seconds and then I used Divine Shield. I had plenty of time. I healed up and jumped in again to cross the shorter gap to the next pipe. For this one I had Hand of Protection ready, but it was a quick swim and I didn't use it.

Then I went up the pipe to the bridge and down the other side. Very small swim to the Lurker platforms, survived just fine swimming without a bubble.

This achievement can be incredibly frustrating. I bought a stack of noggenfoggers. First time I used like 3-4 and levitated down, but forgot water walking. Got water walking elixirs, get a guildie to sit in raid again, then blew through the rest of the stack with no levitate.

Buy a TON of noggenfoggers, like several stacks, and don't forget water walking if you can't cast it. Don't trust the proc off of a handful.
