Procs and Buffs

There are various stat-increasing buffs that one can get that are not class-specific. Such as those from racial abilities such as Blood Fury. Or those from professions. Like from Tailoring or from Engineering. Enchants such as Power Torrent. But also, our gear can give extra stats. These stats come from active trinkets that we control (think of Moonwell Chalice) or from proc-based trinkets such as Witching Hourglass.

A tad bit before we had an entire section dedicated to . It goes without saying that this is the single strongest cooldown that Demonology Warlocks have with the biggest impact possible on gameplay. Not only does it introduce an adjusted rotation, but it also forces you into melee range, a place that casters otherwise try to stay as far away as possible from. increases our damage by 20%, our armor by 600% and gives us access to some unique spells such as and .

Increases our haste by 15% and all damage by 10% if we use Felguard. This has a huge benefit. We aim to line it up with other big cooldowns, like and intellect procs. On top of that, we can snapshot this benefit. It helps damage over time abilities, such as Doom and .

Summon Doomguard

The Doomguard scales with a player’s stats. The spell has a 10-minute cooldown. But it stays active for 45 seconds (or 75 seconds with 2pc T13 on a 6-minute cooldown). So, it is important to line up this cooldown with other cooldowns. This raises the player's spell power and crit chance. This gets the most out of this strong cooldown.

This buff increases the beneficiary haste by 3%. But it also links you together. If one lands a critical hit with periodic healing or damage, you both get extra periodic damage %. 3% per stack for you and 1% per stack for the beneficiary, stacking up to 3 times. As such it is important to use this spell on classes that do a lot of periodic healing or damage.

Abilities for Demonology Warlock DPS in CataclysmDamage over Time

Doom

The best bane for us is Doom. But, it can only be up on one target at a time. This means that in multi-target situations you will want to use Agony on off-targets. The time until it deals damage is also 15 seconds. So, if the target won't live for another 15 seconds, skip using your global cooldown to apply the spell.

Corruption

Corruption deals a good amount of damage over time, but not an amazing amount.

Agony

We can't always use Doom. This happens if there are multiple mobs, or if we want to start with a shorter duration curse. Such that we can use Doom during . In those situations, we want to consider using Agony. It is weaker than but still better than nothing. It should be noted that Agony deals most of its damage in the last four ticks, due to the ramping nature of the spell. This means if you cannot guarantee the full duration of Agony you should avoid using it.

Immolate

One of our main damage over time abilities is Immolate, which should not be confused with . This is thanks to the fact of increasing the duration of the debuff. This results in Immolate dealing a lot of damage for essential the short cast time that it has.

Filler Spells

Shadow Bolt

Depending on our build Shadow Bolt is our filler spell. The added benefit of this is that it also applies . During the execution phase we will be using Soul Fire.

Incinerate

Demonology Warlocks like to switch things up. After all, variety is the spice of life. When procs from Immolate, we want to start using Incinerate. We'll stop using whatever other filler spell we use. Depending on our build Incinerate might also just be our normal filler spell.

Soul Fire

When we hit a target with lower than 25% health with Shadow Bolt, Incinerate, or a Soul Fire it will proc . What that means is that Soul Fire becomes 40% faster to cast. Also, when is up during , we want to keep casting Soul Fire.

is our main form of AOE DPS for big groups of enemies that are stacked together. Note that we can clip the channel of the spell to refresh other debuffs when we are facing smaller groups.

We Demonology Warlocks spend a lot of time in melee range. We want to be there whenever we can use for . This puts us in a good position to use . We can do this when we move in or out, or as a finisher if we won't get another spell off. It also helps when we face a big group of enemies. The spell's damage over time is not affected by the AoE Cap. This makes it one of the strongest AOE spells if the group is big enough.

Procs

Demonology Talent

This procedure is one of the reasons why Demonology Warlocks are the kings of switching things up. This talent makes our Immolate proc . The buff increases the damage of our Incinerate . It also boosts the cast speed of Incinerate. This is the reason we swap to use Incinerate if the buff is up. If is up we want to use Incinerate over Soul Fire during because its buff is big enough to make up for the difference benefits.

Demonology Talent

This is the next talent that causes a proc to switch up our filler spell. This time it isn't caused by our damage over time abilities. It happens when one of our filler spells hits a low health (sub 25%) target. We can snipe low-health adds for the buff and use our Soul Fire on the main target if we want to. causes our Soul Fire to be lightning-fast to cast. Whenever we get we use Soul Fireinstead of our normal filler spell. The exception is Incinerate during , in which case we want to prioritize Incinerate. Sometimes will fall off while we cast. The speed benefit is calculated at the start of the cast and kept. So, we still want to finish the cast.

Demonform Spells

As we talked about before during the section of this guide, is mostly a trap. This is due to the fact that it occurs the global cooldown, wasting 1,5 seconds you could have been dealing damage. You are better off running into melee range before using .

When we use , we want to be in melee range and use . This spell is a buff. Once activated, we don't need to keep casting it. This leaves us free to shed damage following our normal rotation. deals free damage to whoever is in melee range of us.

when Molten Core is up during Decimation, we want to keep casting Soul Fire.

If Molten Core is up we want to use Incinerate over Soul Fire during Decimation because its buff is big enough to make up for the difference benefits.
