Whenever you do this quest, make sure that you clear a spot out where when you pull Nyxondra from right above your head. This will prevent the NPCs following you from running off and pulling whelps into the fight. Also, it is worth noting that Nyxondra's Bellowing Roar can be interrupted, so interrupt it every time you can to make the fight that much easier.

If you are soloing this and are a non-pulling class, use the Dwarf (Baelhog)'s arrow shot (available in the "pet" action bar).

Terrible quest, bad design. I'm a total keybinder, so trying to click on three different pets' abilities was a clunky nightmare. Whelp respawn rate is way, way too fast. Reminds me of the worst of the Wrath vehicle quests in its clumsiness. Too bad, because I was really enjoying the story up until this frustration.

I pulled her down into the part where it dips around 10,35 with cords just south of the buried tower. There are three welps spawns around there you should clear first and try and tag her with your own ranged attack and run into where it dips. I did it with one dwarf down as long as you interrupt the shout and have the one dwarf taunt off you it should be fine.

Somehow I lost my pet bar for this quest after wiping once, though I had it prior to death. I couldn't figure out how to get it back, so I just used all my cooldowns (feral druid) and basically solo'd it as the dwarves ran off to kill whelps without my ability to control them.

If you find yourself in a similar situation, I found the most important move to interrupt is her fear (bellowing roar). I saved my skull bash for that. Her flame breath is pretty tame, just worry about interrupting the fear so you don't get run into adds.

This quest is designed to push the solo player to the limit. It's especially difficult as a melee class due to the uneven terrain. The hills here require special attention. You will have to learn where you can and can't go through trial and error and jumping around a bit. It's tricky when you're also negotiating caster mobs you may not be able to attack due to the terrain (if you're a melee). The boss has an aoe fear that extends perhaps 40 yards out and you are forced to take her on with three "friendly" npcs. These npcs will scatter in all different directions during the fear drawing several adds, even if you've done a good job clearing the area. The aoe fear has to be interrupted or you're dead.

The terrain is really the decisive factor here. On even ground this would be a welcome challenge.

Unless you're content to die multiple deaths, just do yourself a favor and skip this one.

Done this as a mage, by interupting every fear with counterspell and the stun of eric, just ignore the aggro from olaf, KITE him.

A note for hunters, your three "helpers" are pets thus preventing you from having your real pet out. And wow are these miniature vikings loyal, they're with you whenever you're in the zone.

I found that I was not skilled/geared enough to do this quest when I attempted it, so I dropped the quest to continue with others in the zone.

But the guys were still with me. I found that I could dismiss one of them, but he came back immediately. I left the zone and came back, I hearthed, I got them all killed (and myself which is how I found my limitations), nothing seemed to work. I've moved on to Searing Gorge to level, and I'll come back to Badlands I guess.

edit: And I did come back, at level 66. Yes, my guys appeared as soon as I got off the flight path. The fight was now trivial obviously, but the quest line is highly recommended. I'm very glad I finished it, I might even miss the little guys.

Just to add a little balance here, I found the quest to be very enjoyable. Considering those of us that've played for years rarely die, I didn't mind the deaths at all(there were 2).

In a game that usually forces you to group at some point(if you want to do all the quests), I found the "party' addition a welcome change and the quest line itself a great story. Blizzard's obviously trying to give grouping novices a bit of help and I, for one, appreciate the effort as well as the result.

I would strongly suggest NOT skipping this one, especially if you enjoy a bit of variety and a challenge while solo'ing.

First time I tried I had no clue of the fear. Ended up with 5 broodlings on me (48 shadow priest), and eventually running off... But after reading WoWhead and Praeditus's post found a nice place where I only aggroed one broodling entire fight.

I kept accidently doing this, but do not use the taunt while feared as it will use up the taunt but won't actually taunt the dragon.

Not too sure but this seems to be one of the last quests, which end up giving the item;

Ok i had the worst time trying to do this quest, i cleared a large area of broodlings but they had that stupid respawn glitch where they respawn either instantly or like 10 secs after you kill them so everytime i would pull the elite and they would respawn right when i pulled him. I tried it four time and on the fourth time i finally got him. I ended up pulling him into the cliff side so when he feared i either got stuck on the cliff or only end up pulling 2 broodlings instead of 6.

Just beware this quest is super glitchy. After testing a few times the two viking meleers cannot kill a single whelp by themselves... If that tells you their degree of usefulness I am not sure what would. The third viking, hunter, likes to disappear and not spawn sometimes (I went 2 hours without him spawning back up). He is by far the most useful one for the objective of this quest and if you find yourself without him I suggest logging off and back on to see if he comes back. The whelps spawn super quick so you are bound to be stuck fighting them at some point even if you clear a section out. My advice is to focus on them when they respawn and keep the vikings on the main.. Then once you have cleared out the respawn start back up on the main again...

I don't know if this quest is glitchy, or just the case of bad thinking on Blizzard's part. I've died 4 times, the most frustrating deaths being feared into a crater I could not escape from and swarmed by the broodlings. The guardians are worthless, and I think I'm just going to level a couple times and come back to it. Playing right now as a 48 Worgen Rogue.

I too had lots of issues. I died as a level 50 Ret Paladin about 3 times before I followed someone's idea to bring her to the most Northwestern corner of New Kargath. Also, I found that Olaf, the tank type viking, despawned on me after my first death. Surely it has some bugs, but I think I got lucky with some procs and using Eric's Charge ability to interrupt "Bellowing Roar"

The key is to stay away from Whelps, they are what really kill you. Flame Buffet is what makes them dangerous.

This is a very glitchy quest for quite a few reasons. I will list them below.

1) There is no reasonable way to get into the area unless you go up the paths to kill the previous two pocket bosses in the chain and literally jump down into the area.

2) The hunter pet in your "party", the viking hunter likes to disappear from the party for some odd reason. This leaves you effectively with only two npc party members to help you out.

3) The respawn rate and density of the whelps is just flat out insane. Super fast respawn rate and they're packed in very dense. It almost reminded me of the dailies in the Sunwell area during the heyday of the Burning Crusade expansion.

4) Although the interrupts can be done between your character and Eric's charge, it has to be timed precisely because of cooldowns.

5) The whole quest is just simply over-tuned and leaves very little margin for error.

6) The whole chain was fun all the way up until this final quest. Then it just turned into an exercise in frustration. I can see ramping up the difficulty as you get to the end of the chain, but this final one was orders of magnitude much more difficult than the one just before it. Not sure what the Blizzard developer's rationale was for the insanely ramped up difficulty of this one.

Just thought I'd note that if you die and lose your pet bar and one of the vikings (like I did), logging out and back in or closing the game should restore them.

I died repeatedly until I killed off the other mobs around Nyxondra, and (this is the key) attacked Nyxondra and then ran away, down the hill to the northeast, away from where all the other broodlings spawned. Even when you clear the area, they respawn very quickly and you'd soon have a couple of them on you as well, and that was sure death.

By moving away from their spawn area and taking the boss with you, it was a difficult but beatable challenge.

I had enough of this quest and dropped it in hopes of no longer dealing with the NPCs aggroing the world in my honor, but I can't seem to get rid of them. They're like a plague that has no cure. Even when I right click to "Dismiss" them they just come back. Does anyone know of a way (yes I have dropped the quest) to rid of these nuisances for good while you're in Badlands?

After taking the comments here as good advice for completing the quest, I did notice this was a prime farming spot for Thick Leather, with assorted Rugged Leather drops. If you're a skinner, here you go. Tons of fast respawn mobs, very little competition, and 3 NPCs to help you kill them.

All I can say after doing this quest on my shaman (which was really easy) I thought I'd breeze right through it on my hunter. I was wrong. Despite the shield dwarf's taunt I was unable to keep the dragon off me. And hunters not being designed for melee, and the aforementioned crazy respawn rate of the surrounding whelps, I have failed countless times and have decided to abandon this quest and move on. It's like Blizz isn't even trying anymore and hasn't been for years. *Sigh*....

I found a workaround to the despawning of pets. I just summoned the demon after I pulled the dragon, since it won't despawn until you exit combat. I am unsure whether this applies to hunters too, but it definitely works for 'locks.

Yes, this trick did work for my 49 Human 'Lock. Took me 3 times to get the timing right (because of her fear), but once I got my Voidwalker summoned, along with the 3 Dwarf "Vikings", we were able to take Nyxondra down. Only thing to mention, is you lose the Vikings "pet control" bar, as it was replaced by my Voidwalker's pet bar. So even though you can no longer control the Vikings, the combination of all 4 was enough to keep Nyxondra plenty busy as I dropped all of my DoTs on her. Had to heal my Voidwalker once during the fight, but other than that, it was smooth sailing.

P.S. The Northwest corner is the spot to fight as there are no whelps in that corner. You will have to stand on the small hill near the building to be close enough to pull Nyxondra, but once that is done, get back into the corner asap, so when you are feared (if you don't interrupt it in time) you don't inadvertently run into any nearby whelps.

P.P.S. I will have to try the same trick on my hunter, once he's at the appropriate level. If that trick works for him too, I will post an update.

Well I did this quest for the first time on my shaman and I don't yet have tremor totem, and I tried interrupting the fear but it didn't work. Don't know if they changed it to make it uninterruptable or I just missed, but either way, the fight sucked due to constantly being feared. I hate fights like that. Other than that she is pretty simple. Fear affects you and the NPCs so it's very easy to pull extra adds, even if you clear out a good number of them. Maybe it would be better to kite her back towards the entrance to the clutch area where there's less adds?

God this is the most horrible quest for a hunter.

You can't use your own pet.
The Vikings can't really tank.
The Vikings get feared around all over the place.
Even if you manage to replace one of them by your own pet, feared vikings will frequently pull rapidly respawning adds.
Even if you drop the quest, the vikings will still replace your pet whenever you are in the zone.

I endet up leaving the zone for the above reasons...

Most horrible Quest since 2.0.

This quest was irritating.... Clearing a spot out isn't good enough. You've got to drag the damn thing away from the pack as they respawn WAY too fast. The problem with this is if you drag him the wrong way, you "leave the area" and your helpers despawn for a second. When they come back, you don't have control over them. So no taunt, no heal, etc.
They need to slow the repop rate of the whelps down....

If u r a ret paladin like me all u have to do is Rebuke her Fear and the fight is a piece of cake. It took me about 20 deaths to realize I had Rebuke and what it did but be careful not to get trigger happy and rebuke her fire breath because the cooldown will prevent u from using it on her fear and then your screwed.

Wiped out 2 times, abandoned quest and started again after reading comments. Did it with lvl 47 Demonology Lock, without hunter dwarf and without my pet. I killed only about 15 - 16 broodlings in last attempt.

There is path from the southwest - west. Find Barricade Barricade at (9.4, 48.8) and climb to the top of path. At right corner try to climb and jump until get to the top of hill. Go to the right and you will get to the path leading to the NW corner.

No quest has ever made me want to kill dwarves as much as this one. Playing my gnome warrior, I abandoned it for later, and then couldn't shake the three "Vikings." I reloaded the UI, relogged, restarted the game, left the zone and came back...nothing gets these guys off me!

This is one of the most horribly designed and executed quests in the game, IMO, for all the reasons stated by others before me. I hope whomever developed it gets fleas.

I hated this quest until I read the other comments. Here's what you should keep in mind in short:

Get to the northwest area, just behind the little burnt down shack. There's no whelps back there and doesn't despawn your 'vikings'.
Use Swift's charge to interrupt Bellowing Roar. Will save you lots of time, specially if you don't have your own interrupt.
CC works. I feared her a few times when the charge was on cooldown.
If you do try it elsewhere, do NOT loot the whelps as you kill them. This prolongs the spawn time and you just might notice that you can kill her before those bodies even disappear. Spawn times: Unlooted > looted > skinned.

As for getting back after you die or back there in general, go to the western area. With some decent WoW jumping skills you should be able to get back there easy enough. There's a way to do it in the south right by the graveyard but it's a bit of a pain.

Clearly I should have read the comments before trying to do this on my priest. We were having a fine time with the Dragon, but the respawns killed the three stooges and then (I was concentrating on the dragon) about six of them were just too much for my priest's shield. Kind of frustrating when they can (combined) one-shot your shield.

Sad to say but the Time-Constrained Player doesn't have the time to make multiple attempts at something this time-consuming and I had already done 35/35 Badlands quests, so goodbye to this one and off to the next area. Too bad, because I was just getting to like the little guys.

Did this with a lvl 50 paladin (in my tank spec), and I didn't even realize it was supposed to be a hard fight. Feared 3 times, only broke it once, aggro'd a total of 3 whelps, but they were easy to deal with. Finished will all 3 dwarves alive at about 60% health.

That said, I had cleared a small area of whelps ... spent maybe -4 minutes doing so.

Those of you who suggested the Northwest strategy, thank you very much! I, too, died about 5 times and was very frustrated - ready to abandon the quest. However, after reading these comments, I tried the NW method - only had to fight a few whelps to get there (and of course the best route to get there is just to go on up the hill most of the way ().

Thanks again! I was able to complete the quest line and get a blue-label egg, to summon a pretty red whelp that will help you fight for 10 minutes.

Anybody else reading this, like said above several times, be sure to go to the NW corner of the dragon's area and stand behind the tent to fight her - it helps to prevent you from fearing into the whelps.

You can reach the area easily by going around the north side of New Kargath and through the narrow gully around the south edge of the Hidden Clutch. You don't have to fight your way to the top of New Kargath

You must interrupt every Roaring Bellow (fear) and don't worry about interrupting anything else. If you do that, it's relatively easy.

The NW strategy was key for me too. As soon as I went there, I stopped dying and won - it was that simple. To englarge: after I'd killed the bosses in New Kargath I made my way straight down the slope toward Nyxondra (it's a bit steep, but doable). I slowly crossed the quest zone to what looks like a ruined hut roof, killing brood one at a time, ignoring Nyx. Northwest of the roof is a small plateau in a dip, shielded by a little hill. I climed the hill from the plateau to get a clear line of sight and shot Nxy, then dropped back down to the plateau. From here on in there are no broodlings to worry about, it's you and the gang against Nyx.

It's worth adding I have an interrupt but I didn't get to use it successfully that much - too much else to do. I was feared quite a lot, but still managed it, with the help of three NPCs, a potion and a couple of bandages. 47th lvl Hunter in greens. She has about 20K health and is by far the toughest mob so far.

If you do die, you can with a bit of practice get over the hill between the graveyard and Nyx, and you don't need to go all the way around New K to the canyon, or fight your way to the top which is even worse. The trick to getting over the slope to the west of New K is to go up the slope to the immediate right of it, instead of tackling it directly. Toward the top weave first a little right then sharp left, jumping, which brings you over the seemingly impassable slope. Fiddly. If you do this, you can get to the plateau fairly quickly, meeting a minimal number of the brood.

I had trouble with this also.. but I worked my way around the left side into the back corner area (top left on map). I was able to take her standing at the top of a peak with no adds. Can also use one of your companions charge to interrupt the fear.

A few things:

You can get into the Hidden Clutch by running up behind the Horde flightmaster at (17, 40). He didn't aggro when I went around him. Go behind him and jump down on the ledge. Then try to stay up and left on the ledge until you hit broodlings.
Do as suggested and fight her on the plateau behind the broken down hut in the NE corner. Even when I missed an interrupt and she feared me, my dwarf buddies and I didn't go anywhere near the broodlings. I found they were what killed me the (ahem) four times before I read the comments on this page. Nyxondra only knocked me down to 1/2 health without the adds.
The range on Baelog's Valhalla Shot was much greater (100 yards) than on my gun (5-30 yards). I was able to pull Nyxondra from my nice hiding spot when my Shoot icon was still showing a red "NO!" dot. Meant also had a little more time for Baelog's cooldown.
Use the dwarfs when you can. Baelog for damage, Eric for interrupt on the fear (Bellowing Roar) and Olaf's taunt when I was the target of Flame Buffet and Flame Roar.

I don't really have magical advice to add to this (other than do it as an 85 or beg a random 85 to help you).
The stupid dragon is elite, which isn't that big of a deal, but the darn thing has a stupid "all enemies" fear and the dumb pets start attacking whatever hit them last cause they're just dumb like that. So you get feared every 7-10 seconds, your "helpful" team arbitrarily starts attacking the stupid spawns that respawned cause they're just psycho like that. And then you die before you even know what the blazes happened. I usually get the heck outta the stupid badlands once I've got the achieve for the zone quests. Cause this quest may be interesting, but it sure as heck ain't worth it, especially as a melee.
Honestly, the quest designers are evil little men twisting their goatees. They must be to have designed this quest.
That being said. It IS possible to do it. At the proper level, even. It CAN be done. Clear the stupid spawns as fast as you can, and then use that dude with the super-long ranged attack. The guy with the arrow? Assuming he doesn't glitch on you like he did with me and just arbitrarily not be there. Stay away from anything that takes time to cast. In other words, instant casts are your friend! And try to trap yourself under something so the stupid dragon can't fear you into her spawn. And then hit as hard as you can. Good luck.
But be warned, you might lose your voice from cursing the dragon, the spawn, the idiots who are supposed to help you, and the evil, EVIL people who designed the quest.

This was a particularly painful quest. You want to make your way into a relatively clear area and then pull Nyxondra when she's directly above you. The trick is interrupting her Rugissement puissant, otherwise you and your goon squad will be feared and pull a bunch of whelps. I made the mistake of attempting to tank her, don't - use the taunt in the pet-bar instead. Don't try and clear the area of whelps, their respawn timer is ridiculously short. Just get in, let your dwarven friends tank, interrupt the fear EVERY TIME, then run for the hills.
