Currently (11/24/10) this quest seems to be slightly broken. The requirements of the quest are that you collect six Scarlet Corpses; however, with the massive influx of new characters in Deathknell the corpses don't have adequate time to respawn, leaving many players one or two corpses short of their goal.

On the other hand if one doesn't complete the quest Darnell; the NPC tasked with accompanying and assisting you, will not disappear, leaving you with a rather large zombie vanity pet that no one else can see. How long Darnell keeps will keep the player company I cannot yet say, though he has joined me as far as Brill.

*An addendum to the above information: If you complete the remainder of the quests in Deathknell while leaving Recruitment incomplete Darnell will; on at least two occasions, meet his future self, which is worthy of the lulz.

I found I was having a bug with this since Darnell kept constantly despawning and respawning on me. I was able to fix this by right-clicking on the corpse as soon as Darnell respawned, causing him to pick up the body before he despawned again. It was a bit annoying, but it's an easy workaround for now.

During this quest I couldn't help but be reminded of the Poison Zombies from Half-Life 2. I almost expected him to throw one of the corpses at an enemy.

The quest instructions say "point at them so Darnell can pick them up".

Do NOT do this. Or you'll waste quite a few minutes like I did, /pointing at them and trying to get it to work.

Like most quest items in the world, they are interactable with by right clicking on them, which will then animate your character to point at them while Darnel runs to pick them up.

I guess this is the opposite of those /cheer /dance quests that Blizz have been making recently.

Talked to a GM. says the despawning and respawning can happen when you have shadowgrave and recruitment at the same time. was taking me 4-5 Darnells to get one corpse. GM suggestion was to complete or drop shadow grave first then log in and out. Worked like a charm.

This quest shows in the list for non-Forsaken characters. When walking up to a corpse, I have no means of "starting" this quest. The first quest that I can pick up is the last one in the sequence.

I am playing a Blood Elf Mage, trying to complete Loremaster Achievement.

As of 4.3 this quest and its immediate followup are still not available to non-Undead characters. I attempted using a fresh level 1 Blood Elf to see if it might be due to a level restriction on the auto accept, but nothing was given from both the corpses nor directly from Deathguard Saltain, as well as from the bottom of the Shadow Grave at the Undead creation point.

All secondary quest database addons list the quest's availability as well so it appears this is either still broken, or was always intended to be an Undead exclusive section of the chain.

Dark tidings indeed for all my fellow OCD completists.

Description

[We've been shipping in dead bodies from Silverpine, Hillsbrad... hell, anywhere we can get them from. We can't, however, afford to ignore the bodies which are sitting right on our front doorstep.

The last vestiges of the Scarlet Crusade roam here in Tirisfal Glades. While we've managed to push them from Deathknell, several of their bodies litter the buildings to the north and the east.

Go find them... and bring that Darnell fellow with you. He looks strong enough to carry a few corpses.]
