To tame a flaming boar with the torch from this quest:

Step 1; Either get a friend or another account to make a tauren and go through the intro quests. You are aiming for the quest "Feed of Evil"
Step 2; Get your hunter to the boar pit in Mulgore involved in the quest "Feed of Evil".
Step 3; Begin taming the boar. They die after 7 seconds ON THE DOT, so figure out how long your tame takes before trying.
Step 4; Spam Revive Pet near the end of the tame.

If successful; You'll see a pet bar for a split second, but no level-up animation. The pet will despawn, and you'll have a blank whistle instead of a boar face. Log out and back in, select the newly shown boar picture, and you now have bacon!

In unsuccessful;
- The mob will run out of range and die later.
- The pet dies, and you see a ding.
- The pet is tamed, then dies.
- The pet dies before being tamed.

If you do this quest and The Battleboars at the same time, you can aggro a boar (or a bunch of boars), kite them to a trough, and use the torch to set them running. Each aggroed boar killed by fire rewards kill credit twice, meaning that you can aggro 5 boars and complete the quest in one shot.

I am having a really hard time taming this guy. How vital is it to spam Revive Pet near the end of the cast? I tried the "/script PetAbandon()" macro, and all that does is literally abandon my pet, no matter what pet i have out.

Any tips?

If you start combat with them before using the torch, you get XP for the kill. By pulling large groups to the trough and hitting them all with it, you can get a few easy levels on these.

hi guys
someone from the hunters who tamed the burning boar there who can gimme some tipps for the timing? i tried it a lot of times with a mate, we`ve readed a lot of forum postings and watched youtube vids, but we don`t get the boar tamed.
either he is dead before taming or he`s tamed without the flames.
so is there a trick to tame, or is it just the timing?

Hey guys, got the burning boar yesterday.

I first tested how long it took for me to tame a pet and it seemed to take 6 sec for me (much haste).
Then I tried to tame so the boar died at the same time I was finish tameing it, and after like 25 tries it worked;) Be patient when doing this and you will get it !

just tamed this one myself, just a tip for everyone who wants to try taming it, do use ice trap for the slowing or they just run out of range

I can confirm that you CAN still tame this boar.
I just tamed it myself (solo on a level 18 alt) about ten minutes ago. I used the /revive method.

Long story short, I put Lifeblood (for the haste buff) and Tame Beast in a macro together. That (combined with a tiny amount of haste from the heirloom helm and cloak) brought my tame cast time down to about 7.5 seconds.

To tame him, you're probably going to have to play with the timing. Simply put, if the boar dies and the corpse does not immediately despawn, you need to hit tame sooner. If you see the level up burst, you hit tame too soon.

Took many tries but you can still get it!
My tame is 10 seconds, so I counted and had my friend throw the torch on 3.
Makes me want bacon. Fantastic special pet.

Still obtainable solo as of today in 4.3. Took a number of tries before I got the exact timing. I got a number of non-flaming pigs by being either too fast and taming before it died, or too slow and letting it level up as it died. Eventially timed it so it died without the level-up animation, resed it and got the flamer.

It helps to watch the cooldown timer on the torch to zero in on exactly when to start your tame, for me it ended up being about a quarter of the way through that cooldown.

I can confirm that as of 28/1/12 (4.3.0) the fire boar is still obtainable. I got it a minute ago - http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/aerie-peak/Krondorr/pet#10618634

Got it after 10 minutes. Just 10! Here's how...

ADDONS: Quartz. This is essential for seeing how long your tame takes, and how you will time it.

1) Freeze trap a boar by a trough.
2) Go to the very edge of the range of taming.
3) Shoot the fire arrow
4) Immediately (for me it was immediately, with a 9.3 sec tame) Tame Beast

REMEMBER - the boar must die EXACTLY as your taming finishes. After 7 seconds of being burned it will die; this does not include the arrow's flight time.

The time it takes for the fire arrow to reach the trough, from max range, is about 3 seconds. So I fired the arrow, waited for the GCD it popped to be ready, and immediately tamed. I'm not entirely sure how long its flight was,but you will have to test it yourself, and adjust when you press Tame accordingly. For me, with 9.3 sec tame time, it worked perfectly. If you can get to 9.3sec tame time then do exactly what I did, but if you can't get it to 9.3 then you may need to adjust the time between firing and taming, or your distance, etc.

My guildies are envious.
