interestingly,it only procs when u equip it,r when you rez or log in,
it then gives a 20 sec buff called "tentacles",

Judging from the name of the trinket, and the buff, I'd venture that this is a reference to Cthulhu, the great tentacled horror of H.P. Lovecraft's novels.

This may even be superior to the dst for enhancement shaman, as the crit includes not only melee crit, but spell crit now as well. I was using the dst and switched this trinket out and attempted it for a run of the occulus and got much higher dps. It may have been group composition, so I'll do more testing. It may also have been the fact that my crit is especially low as I have not found many upgrades and the added crit is quite a large percentage of my lowered crit, just my 2 cents.

This is very useful, 15% proc rate and no cooldown... With my mut rogue it procs atleast every second mob. Haven't tested this in any instances yet.

Would this trinket work for hunters? The Equip effect says "melee strikes", but the description of that spell gives it a range of 40 yards.

Haven't seen this mentioned yet in terms of gear evaluation, so here goes.

The proc, when it goes off, equals about 5.6% Crit at level 80. Thing procs all the time, about once every 35-45 seconds (CD starts when the effect begins, not ends) so you've got uptime of roughly 20 seconds every minute and a half or so.

Pretty decent piece of gear for DPS wars, rogues, and DK's, probably most useful for Warriors. Given the lack of good +crit trinkets (real options are Meteorite Whetstone and Mirror of Truth), it's possible for a melee dps to end up wearing this green well into Naxx if the other options aren't dropping.

I'm trying to sort out the overall effective crit rating on this for evaluation in RAWR/Pawn. Correct me if my math is wrong:

Proc lasts 10 seconds, 45 second proc-to-proc cooldown: 10/45 = 0.2222...
Crit rating is 258, divided over the 45 seconds of total cooldown: 258 * 0.22 = 57.33 effective sustained crit rating. This is the value I put into RAWR in the item editor under crit rating.
1 CritRating = 0.022% Crit: 57.33 * 0.022 = 1.26% effective sustained crit

Granted it's not an on-use--you can't guarantee that it will proc as soon as the CD is up--but rogues/kitties have a fairly fast autoattack speed that should generate a proc within 5-10 seconds of leaving the CD lockout. I'm not sure how to calculate the average time to proc a 15% rate with 2 attacks per second (feral base 1.0 attack speed, 1 second CD on abilities) but working with a 5 second gap gives us:

Proc lasts 10 seconds, 50 second proc-to-proc cooldown: 10/50 = 0.2
Crit rating is 258, divided over the 50 seconds of total cooldown: 258 * 0.2 = 51.6 effective sustained crit rating.
1 CritRating = 0.022% Crit: 51.6 * 0.022 = 1.14% effective sustained crit
Skipping the longhand math, a 10 second delay reduces it to 1.03% crit

Just to inform you, Crusader's Locket gives you roughly +50 more Attack power than this one. Strange.. same proc chance and item level.

edit: rate this down, eat it up, burn it. do whatever you want. didn't see the difference between the two procs.

The tooltip states that melee strikes proc it. Can someone please confirm if a hunter shooting his ranged will proc this?

Judging from a frost DK PoV, this is also an exceptionally good trinket - It is spell critical strike rating as well, and IT + HB both act as spells.

This Stacks with Jouster's Fury from the Argent Crusade
Also stacks with any other Crit multiplier

On my Survival Hunter with 4 piece hateful and a mix of blues and 10 man nax epics, Jouster and ChuChu's proc + Master Tactician puts my crit over 50%

So, I did a faction change and had to redo these quests. My noob rogue is still rocking this trinket, so I was kind of surprised when I picked up a second one after finishing the quest.

I have a better second trinket, but still, I wonder if they planned on people getting duplicate quest rewards like this.

I'll have to do some tests to see how well they stack for the hell of it.

A good substitute for Death Knight's Anquish, even though it has half the duration at 10 seconds, rather than 20. Still, with a bonus 77 crit and 53 AP, it's still an upgrade and I was glad to find it!

I had the Thundering Skyflare Diamond socketed and the tiny box equipped...the box procced all the time, but Skyflare Swiftness never did. As soon as I un-equipped the trinket, Skyflare procced...and boy did it proc.

I would assume that it could share a cooldown with any melee haste trinket or affect. I also noticed that my Turn the Tables skill (in the rogue Assassination tree) would not proc when I had this trinket equipped. I think it might be a bug.

After testing this on som dummies and timing it, there seems to be a 45 sec. cool down with a 3.4 and 3.6 weapon. Anyone tested with quicker weapons?

There is a miss spelling with this tool tip, it says that there is a chance of it increasing crit rating by 258 for 0 seconds. it should say by 258 for 10 seconds
