you no longer need the master's key for this, it can be opened using a Titanium Skeleton Key by a Blacksmith

it doesnt let you in the side/back door. i tried this weekend and said i needed key...which is odd since i have master's key and let us all in the front door gate. any ideas if this was just bugged or if they changed it? thanks.

Just soloed the quest chain as a level 80 pvp specced disc priest in raid gear. Quite lengthy having to solo Sethekk Halls, Shadow labyrinth, The Botanica, The Mechanar, The Arcatraz, Old Hillsbrad Foothills, and The Black Morass. But hardly difficult. Good luck.

I've gone to Kara many times without anyone having the key becuase a guildie found a way to glitch yourself in. I just now got the key in my grind for quests for guild achieves

You can kill yourself by the gate and then rez inside the gate.

hello i am new to the forum and can see its a very nicely done one as well.. i would like to suggest something not sure if anyone has ever tried this.. it might sound lame in a way but it works for me on server im on. an ally taughtme this i even earned honor for killing 10 till i learned secret. instead of using key you dont really need it.. i still doin quest but way i went in was have someone kill me or have one of npc in area kill me (body by gate)..dont res till your on opposite site of gate then when your in resurrect and you should be in without the key. it works for me on my server/ realm but maybe it will for others?

I just spent the better part of my evening going through the quest chain diligently and getting all the way to the end by clearing most of Kara, even going so far as to solo the chess event. Then, there was no key. It occurred to me as I sat there for a few moments pondering why I had spent my entire night doing this that my initial goal was to be able to go through the backdoor to Kara.

It has been a while since TBC and a lot has changed. The door in the back is not opened with a key, it is opened after you clear out the Opera event. Sadly, my mind was on auto-pilot running through all of this and as the keys have been removed form the game it wouldn't have mattered even if the Master's Key would have opened the door. So, if by some chance, you are here because you too have forgotten how the backdoor to Kara works/what it is for please heed my advice and think long and hard before doing the full quest chain.

The quest chain itself still functions but as there is no need for a key and as there is no key to be had, do this quest only for your own amusement as that backdoor will be as shut as it ever was. It did bring back a lot of good memories back when I had a guild and we raided Kara every week. What an awesome raid it was (and still is).

To enter Karazhan, you must first do a string of quests to get a working key, much like attunement from earlier times. The key can be gotten by following questline which starts with Archmage Alturus (48,76) of Violet Eye just outside Karazhan:

Arcane Disturbances (47,75)
Alturus sends you on a quest with a to take readings inside the Master's Cellar just nearby — go down each passage, do your work, and return to him.

Contact from Dalaran (47,75)
NOTE: To begin this quest you also need to complete Restless Activity (53,79 / 50,79), which can be solved parallel with Arcane Disturbances

Khadgar (15,54)
Entry Into Karazhan (54,44)
The to be found in the Shadow Labyrinth at Auchindoun.

The Second and Third Fragments Terrace of Light of Shattrath City. (54,44)
The to be found in The Steamvault at Coilfang Reservoir. (Arcane Container)
The and last key part to be found in Arcatraz at Tempest Keep. (Arcane Container)

The Master's Touch
Take from the previous quest to Medivh at The Black Morass in the Opening the Dark Portal wing of the Caverns of Time and he will turn it into .

Return to Khadgar
Take the key and show it to Khadgar in Shattrath City.

The Violet Eye
Khadgar directs you to return to Alturus with the key and seek help from the Violet Eye who will then start giving you quests in Karazhan.

Arcane Disturbances (47,75)

Only two pieces of T4 drop in Gruul's Lair. Two more drop in Karazhan and the last one drops in Magtheridon's Lair.

No matter what, if you want to raid end-game in BC, you need to be attuned to Karazhan.

Just a quick note: Medivh does not actually give you the key when you finish the quest (The Master's Touch). Khadgar gives you the key after you return to Shattrath and talk to him. This a little confusing since Medivh says to show the key to Khadgar (implying that you already have it).

I found the SV frag to be quite easy but whatch out for the water pats when your about to jump into water if you aggro its not a pretty sight.

You have to be lvl 68 to do kara because druids can get flight form for that and do the instance alcatraz..

i know that u must do instances to recover the ke. but must u ahve a flying mount to eneter arcatraz could a lock get up there and summun u. im a noob dont know much about the game plz i need help gettin key.

You do need a flying mount to do any of the Tempest Keep instances (Bot, Mech and Arc). Warlocks summoning does not work in Netherstorm.

I accidentally destroyed the 2nd frag from Steamvaults, luckily its an easy one to get so I just ran back through and got it. You can solo it with about any class using invisibility pots, as long as you can kill the elite elemental alone...

Full Questline to get La clé du maître:
Begin in Karazhan Entrance /way 47,0, 75,6

1. Des troubles arcaniques.
/way 48,6, 78,8 Entrance to Underground Well Reading
/way 53,2, 90,1 Underground Well Reading
/way 47,7, 78,3 Entrance to Underground Pond Reading
/way 42,8, 78,5 Underground Pond Reading

Use Cristal de divination pourpre in your bag to Reading.

2. L'agitation des sans-repos. Go to /way 48,6, 78,9 Well Cave Entrance

3. Un envoyé de Dalaran.
Grab the Flight Master to Southshore, Hillsbrad.
In Hillsbrad Foothills go to 38,8, 24,6 and follow the path to Alterac Mountains
Return the quest at /way Alterac Mountains 15,6, 54,6

4. Khadgar. Deliver Alturus's Report to Khadgar in Shattrath City.

5. L'entrée de Karazhan.
Premier fragment de la clé drop from Gardien du premier fragment located near the Last Boss in Shadow Labyrinth.
Gardien du premier fragment spawn after interact with Récipient arcanique.
To access the Shadow Labyrinth needs someone with Clé du labyrinthe des ombres to open the Dungeon Gate.
Clé du labyrinthe des ombres drop from Le coffre du roi-serre located near Roi-serre Ikiss the last boss in Sethekks Halls.

6. Le deuxième et le troisième fragments.

Deuxième fragment de la clé drop from Gardien du second fragment. This guy appear after interact with Récipient arcanique in Le caveau de la Vapeur.
Récipient arcanique is located before the first boss inside the water. After enter the dungeon go straight until reach the water.

Troisième fragment de la clé drop from Gardien du troisième fragment. This guy appear after interact with Récipient arcanique in L'Arcatraz.
To enter into L'Arcatraz you need someone with Clé de l'Arcatraz or a rogue with lockpick on the group.
Récipient arcanique is located on the room with Dark Elementals (right side), after the first boss.

7. Le toucher du maître.
Go into The Black Morass Dungeon (Normal or Heroic) /way 57,5, 62,7 Entrance
Full run the dungeon (all 18 Time Rifs).
After kill the final boss return quest to Medivh.

8. Retour vers Khadgar. Return to Khadgar in Shattrath City and show him the Master's Key. Rewards: La clé du maître.
