This quest is available only during the Lunar New Year period.

You do not need to kill Omen, you just need to recieve the blessing to complete the quest. This means that you can join in a fight, and step into the corpse of Omen after he's dead, and still complete the quest.

I still use my lantern to make an Pierre d’Élune every day. I don't sell them for much, but they're still worth substantially more than a Pierre solide is. This item is not just a gimmick. The Elune Stones it produces are extremely useful to mark locations in raids. This item can make or break a pug. Every raid leader, and fact anyone who might find themselves leading a pug, should use this item whenever the cooldown is up. My old guild could never have cleared Molten Core without the Lantern.

This Item does not disappear after the Holiday is over like most items. So you can create stones all year long. :)

I was wondering what these were used for. Yeah, they make a neat and very visible light, but as I have never done a raid and rarely do dungeons, I had no idea of the usefulness they'd have for a leader to use to indicate "Over THERE on THAT spot of light!" to other party members. Obviously this comes in handy for such things since "Over there" in text doesn't indicate diddly squat without a very visible, and UNIQUE marker. (Saying "next to that rock" doesn't work well either, I expect, unless it's the only rock in sight.) I did notice and love how the solid vertical columns of light during the Lunar Festival makes it so very easy to spot the Elders once you're within rez distance.

So the lantern creates moonlight so using the invite and the lantern you can transport yourself to Moonglade...thats the only use?

Please, people, relax and remember, it's a holiday event. The whole background story is about not forgetting the deeds of your ancestors. Omen is no threat at all since millenia ago. You can relive some of the ancient fight, but Omen is really just a shade of its former self.
Do you really expect to gain epic loot from an event like this?
Work for your epics in MC/BWL/AQ. But then spend your holiday/free time joining the festivities in Moonglade. And maybe you happen to join in The Omen Memorial Bashing. :)
Using the special moon light is something to stand out before others, just for being able to do something no one else can do (who didn't participate himself of course). I personally think Blizzard found a nice way to let players distinguish themselves without further changing the equilibrium of power.

The stones are a handy tool for organising raids. The raid leader simply casts light beams on spots he wants folks to gather on, etc.

Man, I think this lantern was just created to put fairy circles of light of the ground because it was a seasonal item created to commemorate the Chinese New Year. I could be wrong, but ok ...

it is just for fun, as is savory deviate delight fishes. the stones dont have any significance in this game other than to shine a beam of light. its fun to dance in them though = )

I summoned omen to see what level he was, he whomped on me twice and I died. I came back with a group, and the alliance was already killing him. We helped finish him off since it said here that you can get the blessing of Elune from anyone killing him. That is true, you can get the blessing just from standing on his dead body, but it does not complete the quest. It didn't say complete in my quest page, and the guy wouldn't accept it.

Our guild master uses the stones as a marker when he is going over new fights or when there are a lot of new people, such as the 'bomb dump' on Vael or Baron Geddon. This is very helpful to eliminate any confusion when it is imperative people know where they need to be, like when they can explode and wipe your raid.

ZOMG you all must be retards, its for making uber little light beams, sure they MIGHT be nice for making people go places but the smoke flares do that, and are easier to get

anyway they are for fun they dont give buffs or anything use it in the AH the bank on some big rock in the middle of hellfire and take a screeny, =p

Downed today. Has just under 800'000 HP, Melee Attacks for 2015 (Cleave) AoE 800+ a second (Starfall, Large Radius).
Full 20 man raid took 10-15 mins with plenty of deaths. IMO this cannot be completed by just one group of 6 people considering we had a full 20 man raid 75% of which were lvl 70.
Stand in the middle of corpse to receive Eluna's Grace (+ 10 to all stats for me)and to complete quest.

This can be done with a group of 7-8 if you're persistent. Raid leader said he'd been trying to get enough for hours; I got there when Omen was at 72%-ish and it took 8 of us about 20 minutes to burn down. Died twice. High mp5 for healers is essential.

got this last night 2/6/08 with a really good grp, all we had to do is watch out for his starfall and the healers did major healing for both the ranged and tanks, and a nice couple of shaman set down some mana totems fro me :) all in al, we downed him in about 12 minutes and i only died 4 times (sounds like aot, but i got cheaper armor to make the bill prices lower). and to any alliance on gorgonash reading this, pls don't kill lowbies with the buff pls! it ticks them off and makes them go into westfall and start and ally slaughter house >:)

I don't know if the question was answered or not but you get 500 Cenarion Circle reputation at Friendly for completing this. The reputation, the lantern, and the fact that I got to participate in the raid was well worth the 30 minute fight and 10 gold repair bill. The festival is once a year, so just do it to say you did it.

Tried this with a few players and failed badly! I never even had the quest and tried again and failed! BAD! 20g repair Bill!
If you don't think that you can beat him, you can Lure him to Nighthaven and some of the Gaurds will help kill him! Simple! Or maybe not if you die he resets! Nice thing is the life he has does not go back up! SO if you get him dow to 70% it says there if he resets to his starting spot!
NO POINT GOING I HALF COCKED! This OMEN IS A REAL PAIN! You need Healers in Every Group and plenty of DPS. In case you wern't listening , DPS DPS DPS! Even with the 25 man Lev 65+ raid we lost the under lev 60 players and took about 10-12 min and I didnt Die, (lev 63, hunter) due to good Heals! Enjoy you're Raid and stop complaining "what's if for!"

The Elune Stones these create are 1 use items. The lantern has a 24 hour cooldown. The stones stack. When used, they create a column of light that lasts for 3 minutes.

This is useful when you are trying to organize a group of people, like for a boss battle. Cast a column of light to show them where to stand. Other then that it makes a nice 'disco light' to highlight a dancer!

You cannot teleport to moonglade with the Festival Invitation using this.

During the event the moonstones would give a +250HP buff when you stood in the light, but apparently that effect did not carry over after-event. Soooo.... it's pretty much useless now. Yay.
