Getting past the Colossal Gyreworm can be tricky.
But you can mount when you get to the place t's twirling around. There are little holes in the side, where you can hide while it passes by.

So mount, run and hide.

You need to find the painstone located in the corridors of the cavern. This isn't something you mine or get off the Mobs it's a big purple column. As you come into the central chamber it's the corridor on the right hand side.

Yep, upper right corridor from the center chamber.
Coords for the Painite are 66.52 , 20.51.
It looks like one of those Rich Thorium Veins... but 10 times bigger. Impossible to miss.
It is protected only by a normal worm and a roachy creature ( around 85 K life)

Step by step how to get there if you're blonde like me -
1. Enter the tunnel and go straight. Get on your ground mount when you can.
2. Keep going straight until you come to a Y-shaped intersection. The left tunnel is half blocked by rocks.
3. Go right.
** BEWARE THE WORM (it won't really hurt you, but it will pick you up and carry you around until it dumps you in front of the blocked tunnel - you can avoid it by waiting for it to pass and riding after it, or ducking into an alcove on the side until it passes)
4. The tunnel opens into a large chamber with broken stone pillars and rocks, and several more tunnels.
5. Hug the right wall (easier to avoid worms).
6. Keep going right.
7. The tunnel opens into a square chamber with more tunnels.
8. Go right.
9. The crystal should be in the middle of the next room.
10. To get back out, turn around and keep going left.

Just a note, something good for this and other similar quests is Potion of Deepholm, drinking this pot instantly teleports you to the center of Deepholm, very handy for getting out of tunnels like this when you're done and don't wish to fight your way back out. They're pretty cheap to make as well.
