I only read the first comment, so I tried that for about 7-8 times. Getting pissed off at the teleport all the time, I found out I should try something new.

So I stood inside the cart next to the papers, and started reading it the second the guard turned to go the opposite direction (towards the portal). Got it first try, without any hassle! :)

This quest seems broken. The plans changes the cursor to a cogwheel, but that is all it does. Nothing happens when clicking on it.

The Horde portal sentry admonished me just as many times as either the nearby Alliance portal sentry. Hid beside and inside the cart, the boxes, and even in the tent, took about eight times before I could read the plans all the way through the cast. So in all honesty, it's an RPG thing, I think. Some get it on the first cast or two, some take longer. YMMV and all.

I've always stood right in front beside Quartermaster Apone while doing this quest, and I've never had a problem with the guards, even though I'm in plain view of them.

This has got to be the most frustrating quest, since both guards are walking opposite directions. There is NO WAY for me to try looting these plans WITHOUT one of the guards walking past at one point or another. :(

Edit: What finally...FINALLY worked for me was standing between the quartermaster and the cart. That way the guard on the outside of the camp can't see you. As for the guard on the inside (and thus where you are), you have to be very careful to start reading the very microsecond he passes by you going towards the Dark Portal, otherwise he will see you and send you back.

I started this chain thinking it was a lead-in for Hellfire. It certainly is not. Just a heads-up if you're hoping for a extra exp.

I've always stood right in front of the Quartermaster and never had a problem with the guards. I don't know if I was just lucky before, but today I tried it three times and got my rear kicked out of the area. I finally got frustrated and came here to find out why it wasn't working for me and saw the suggestion about standing INSIDE of the cart (beside the cart didn't work... perhaps I needed better deoderant?). Worked like a charm when I was in the cart, they didn't even look at me funny.

The comment about timing is crucial: Stand in the cart or by Quartermaster and start reading the nanosecond the inside guard passes you, not the papers, on his way towards the Dark Portal.

If you're a warlock or hunter, dismiss your pet.
It looks like the sentry can see your pet while you're clicking on the papers even if you are line-of-sight.

i dont know if anyone has taken a good look at the paths these guys take, so heres a couple of things ive noticed:

Both thier paths are a different length, so depending on how long u have been there, they could both be walking the same direcition or away from each other.

Second, when you are in the back of the cart, each seems to have a longer part of the path to follow after they leave your sight, thus giving you more time to read when they are going that direction.

The first time it didn't work, so I killed QM Apone. One less guard. The second time it didn't work. Although the other guards were yellow (targetable), I got an error message. Tried one more time but it didn't work. Filed a ticket on the error.

That's it. If this quest had 250,127.5 XP or a reward of around 11,500 G, I'd be there with a team of people until the heat-death of the universe. But the XP and reward are too piddling (a technical term) for the Time-Constrained Player, so hasta your vista, baby. Don't get lonely waiting for me to come back.

While this quest was frustrating, the cloak reward is too tempting for transmogrification. Stand in the cart, be patient, and you'll get it in a few tries.
