also this is a reference to Paul Revere's ride during the American Revolution where he allegedly yelled to the towns he passed "The British are Coming!" so the towns would prepare themselves for the incoming attack from British troops. The follow up Dos a la deriva is to the same event where 2 lights would be placed in a cathedral (or a tower of some sort) to signal if the attack would be coming from the sea, or one candle if by land. Please note all of this is from the poem "Paul Revere's Ride" I have not read the poem in a while, my my details may be inaccurate. Also many of the details from this poem are still disputed by historians
