This whole area is great for getting some quick silver at low levels and also gets you towards level 20 at a steady pace. It's a good idea to go west of the loch once you hit level 15, that's where you'll find some decent grinding areas and better quests.
The lack of an instance though makes Westfall a more attractive grinding zone.

I dont think the quest lvls shown on the map are correct. And some arent even close like "Vryns revenge" is shown as a lvl 15 quest while the mob is lvl 20 elite (dont remember if i did it bfore or after the preBC nerf so maybe not elite)

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet but, Loch Modan is an excellent zone for mining copper and tin, helped me a lot for getting higher engineering, and quite easily accesible for mining horde with Flight path to Kargath, just run up and enjoy the nice scenery and ores =]

Loch Modan is probably a reference to "Loch Lomond" (this is my guess, b/c it sounds similar).
Also, The Loch is an abbreviation for the well-known lake which houses the legendary Loch Ness monster. Anyone ever checked to see any peculiar bestial figures in the lake? ^.^

I really don't like lvling in Loch Modan, i think the quests are very irritating. Alot of quests where mobs stands so close that you easily pull 3 when trying to pull 1. And in low lvls that is hard to take down...
I would recommend westfall instead to everyone!

I'm not sure if this is occurring on other realms but since the cataclysm (at least on US-Madoran), there's an immortal sheep that wanders Silver Stream Mine. Any attempts to attack it give back the error "Target is not in line of sight" or "You are too far away!"
The sheep changes locations every realm reset and will either have a small pat or stand still. Been there as of 12/07/2010

Loch is a great place to quest after cata now...since the lake isnt there anymore and can run straight thru not around anymore. Whats funny is that of all the elites and rares in this zone I killed them all in one day and got myself a good amount of items to make a quick buck for a low lvl.
评论来自
Isurus
The real power of the rares since Cataclysm are that all of them have a relatively low respawn time (2-4 hours), few people level here (atleast on my server) and the rares give around 2k xp each, making a quick round looking for rares very effective.

When gathering the Explorer League Documents, note that document #3 isn't near any quest line. Take a peak at the item on WoWhead to see where to find it if you're still missing it after questing the zone. You'll need to find it to get 45 quests for the achi.

For all those leatherworkers lvls 18 or so up, who havent been able to lv their professions i suggest you make your way to the southernmost island in the loch where you will find hundreds of lvl 15 crocolisks. Not only do u get meat, skinning and leather you will also pick up many green items. I suggest though, getting a lvl 25 + to go with you and harvest them for u as they spawn rapidly.
Note: the island on the map above has been misplaced at the top right of the map image.

That is where the lake would be.. not loc mudon, i mean cmon the deeprun tram runs in a streight line soooooo techincally it goes nowhere near loc mudon

OK for all you noob horde that wants to go to Loch for some or another reason, u gotta pass through Dun Algaz guarded by lvl 30 alliance guars, and there is NO horde flight master and there are alliance guards all over...and if u wanna get there through Wetlands just go straight and don't turn anywhere, u gotta reach Dun Algaz to go through the tunnels to get to Loch. You will know when u hit the tunnel cause it will say "Discovered Dun Algaz"

BTW for all you ppl who constantly ditch noobs because of their questions re: some of these questions are legitamate to a pvp player. my caracter on the Fenris server could not access this road. after all if your such the expert why are you on thottbot? isnt asking questions and researching answers what this site is about after all! just had to get that off my chest after seeing noobs bashed all over this site its time the noobs started bashing back!

The peaceful town of Thelsamar is quite large for a town, and features many amenities. You'll find the obligatory inn, plus some forges and anvils, shops, vendors, and quest-giving NPCs (which often walk around town, so make sure to remember that when seeking a specific NPC). It's a bit hilly, though, and you may miss certain buildings and the Gryphonmaster if you don't comb the town over on your first visit. It's highly advisable.
Of note, a little north of the town, on the lakeshore, is a small house. On your map, it's a sort of "flat" area between two cliffs on the lakeshore. Here, you'll find a fishing trainer and supplier, and the dock is a nice place to fish.

Prospector Ironband and his noble crew are hard at work unearthing ancient ruins that may hold clues as to the Dwarven race's long-forgotten origins...or rather, were. As of late, the discovery of ancient idols has driven the Stonesplinter Troggs insane and highly dangerous. Now they abuse the abandoned equipment the Dwarves left behind. A volatile situation indeed.
The encampment outside the ruins provides adventurers with quests and a few shopping opportunities. Those heading into the excavation site will run into Stonesplinter Geomancers and Diggers, which can be handled at level 18 or so. A little further in, you'll find the crazed Berserk Troggs, which can be as high as level 20. Unless you're into your early 20s, it is not advisable to solo here. Try partying instead.

The wildlife in the Loch Modan area is very suited for hunting. This hunting lodge, located east of Ironband's Excavation Site, houses a good number of quests and merchants. Looking for a way into the lodge may confuse players for a few seconds. You'll see the lodge's facade first. Go around the back to find a slope leading to the entrance.
The beasts in the surrounding area include Grizzled Black Bears, Mangy Mountain Boars, and Mountain Buzzards (which I personally hate with a passion). The bears and boars are no problem for players at level 14 or 15, but the buzzards can be a problem for those at level 16 or 17. Quests from the Lodge take you on timed challenges to kill these creatures. However, one sends you to kill Elder Mountain Boars...go a bit north from the lodge to find those.

Located in the upper northeast of Loch Modan, just getting to it is a task only those nearing level 20 should undertake. Once there, it would be a fool's gambit to try to take on these Ogres alone. Note that they are all Elite. They are much more powerful than other creatures of their level. Elite monsters are designed to be killed in groups. Now, you COULD solo this area in your late 20s, but it's worth grouping in this area. This is likely to be your first taste of any sort of Elite dungeon, and is a good precursor to running the Deadmines in a couple of a levels.
Within this messy camp are Mo'Grosh Ogres, Enforcers, and Shamans, all level 19 Elites. Be careful not to get any adds, especially if your group is under level 20 (which I don't recommend). There are several caverns in the area, the largest of which is in the south section of this area. In here, you'll find Mo'Grosh Brutes and Mystics, which are around level 20. At the end of the cavern is the boss of the ogres, Chok'Sul, who is level 22. A well-coordinated party in their early 20s can take him out.

After the hunting quests from the lodge, I went north as a 23 rogue. I tested one, an 18+ and soloed, but he took me down to 20%. My rule of thumb is that the extra HP's make them as hard to kill as a regular mob 6-7 levels higher. That would make this (enforcer?) like a level 24, which is about correct. Soliya and Hydrashock can solo one or two levels above themselves, toe to toe.
I dont know enough to compare this to the Deadmines instance, my one run was marred by the tank doing a Leeroy Jenkins impression, and weak combat healing. But when we took care, the lvl 18-22 group had little difficulty with 5 on 3 elites (next time, Eddy gets the sap)!
Check notes on the following quests:
Mercenaries
A Dark Threat Looms
Wanted: Chok'sul

I went to this area at 18 with my pally and i could take them on one by one all by myself. I have a holy spec pally with alchamy so i do get some stat boosts from my pots but anyways. This place is a great place for pallies you can pick up a bnch of gren items that sell for about 10s average to vendor or take your chance on AH. But i think that any pally should be able to start here easily around 19 and stay here until 24 when you shuld be doing the quest line for verigan's fist.

Spanning the north edge of the Loch, the Stonewrought Dam is an engineered wonder. It keeps the melting waters from the snowy peaks of Dun Morogh from flooding the Wetlands to the north. However, when two groups are at war, there is always a subversive movement to dismantle the enemy's most prized fortifications...
The dam itself is safe. You'll find a few vendors, quest NPCs, and even an Engineering trainer on it. The west ramp up onto the dam is a fairly safe area. However, if you head down the east ramp, you will run into another small pocket of Dark Iron dwarves. The Insurgents and Sappers here are among the most powerful foes in the Loch, aside from the Ogres in the Mo'Grosh Stronghold just east of the dam. These villains can be trouble to anyone not yet in their 20s, and the Sappers actually suicide-bomb you when they are near death. They are fairly spaced-out, though, but there are one or two points where two or three Dark Irons may cluster, forming a challenge best left to those almost into their mid-20s.

Another mine overrun by those rattish Kobolds, this particular tribe, the Tunnel Rats, has concentrated upon this mine en masse. The wildlife in the area is composed of Mountain Boars, Forest Lurkers, and Elder Black Bears, which are not a problem after level 11 or 12. Beware the humanoid traits of the Tunnel Rats...which include their tendency to group up on you, especially if you try to make a pull out of a small encampment of three or four enemies.
You'll find Tunnel Rat Vermin, Foragers, and Kobolds outside. These guys are only dangerous if you're below level 12. If you venture inside the mine, though, you'll encounter Diggers and Geomancers, which can pose problems even to players as high as level 14. Be careful if you're pushing deep into the mine.

Located in a valley at the south end of the Stonesplinter Valley, the Trogg Caverns are filled with hostile Trogg that will overwhelm any character below level 15 or 16. Making your way through the valley is a task unto itself, and once you head deeper into the caverns, you'll begin to find level 16 foes. Near the back of the caverns are no less than THREE named Trogg mobs. Grawmug, Brawler, and Gnasher are inseperable, and are around level 17. However, taking on all three at once can overwhelm anyone not yet in their 20s, and even then, they can pose a problem. I, myself, had trouble even at level 23. You should definitely set the slaying of Grawmug and his bodyguards to be the very last thing you do in Loch Modan...or at least, if you're soloing. Bring a party here if you'd like, but expect a few delays as your members try to pass through Stonesplinter Valley.

This area, nestled in the mountains in the southwest of Loch Modan (but east of the north exit from Valley of Kings), is a haven for those despicable Stonesplinter Troggs. They're very ugly.
The more wide-open areas that you come across when you first enter the valley are populated by Stonesplinter Troggs and Scouts, which are usually in the level 10-12 range and are fairly easy to dispatch as long as you avoid links. As you move further south and into more narrow valleys, you'll find Stonesplinter Seers and Skullthumpers, which are a bit more difficult, since they're around level 13 and 14. If you penetrate into the deepest parts of the valley and into the small caves in these areas, you'll find Bonesnappers and Shamans, which can be as high as level 16. So while the outer areas may be fine for those just starting out in Loch Modan, it is advisable they not penetrate too deep into the Stonesplinter's territory.

Algaz Gate is basically where players entering or exiting from/into Dun Morogh and the Wetlands pass through. There isn't any wildlife to speak of, since this is just a pathway.

Algaz Station stands at the north end of the path leading vertically across the western side of Loch Modan. The path split in front of the station takes players to two radically different locations. The icy peaks of Dun Morogh (where the City of Ironforge lies) lie in wait for those who take the left path, while those who take the right will end up in the humid and sticky Wetlands.
The Station itself has a quest NPC, Mountaineer Stormpike, and the immediate area is populated by fairly unworrisome enemies. These include Mountain Boars, Forest Lurkers, and Elder Mountain Bears. Any player at level 11 can handle them. If for some reason you're in the area at level 9 or below, you may need to watch out for them.

Located in the mountains directly south of Thelsamar (but north of Stonesplinter Valley), Grizzlepaw Ridge, if you haven't inferred from the name already, is populated by bears. Elder Black Bears are the easiest to handle, usually around level 11 or 12. As you get closer to the mountains, you'll start to find Grizzled Black Bears, which are more suited for adventurers around level 13 or 14. If you find the winding mountain path heading upwards, you'll run into a few Black Bear Patriarchs, which are around level 16 and 17.
The main draw in this area is Ol' Sooty's cave. Ol' Sooty is a quest objective and an elite level 20 bear. Bring a group unless you're higher up into level 24 or so, and even then, be aware this is no ordinary bear. His cave is at the top of the mountain path, and you may want to clear out the Black Bear Patriarch that spawns near it just so you have a clear shot with Ol' Sooty. People are always killing the poor bear, so you may need to wait for him to respawn too.

The central attraction, and namesake, of Loch Modan is the Loch itself. Firstly, those swimming in its waters are taking a risk. Although they mostly keep to the bottom, sometimes Young Threshadons may swim closer to the surface and attack swimmers. These creatures are often at level 20, meaning only those just wrapping up their careers in Loch Modan will have a chance at defeating these creatures. Other characters should just try to flee, or avoid swimming in the waters for extended periods of time. If you're just swimming to an island and back, you should be fine, though. Just don't dive deep.
The two lower islands in the lake are nothing more than flat, marshy fields swarming with Loch Crocolisks, which are around level 15. The island to the north is where you'll do a few quests, but it's swarming with Troggs! The edges of the island are populated by Stonesplinter Seers and Skullthumpers, nothing of worry to those at level 14 or above, but near the middle, anyone below level 17 will have to be extra-careful due to the Stonesplinter Bonesnappers and Shamans in their camps.

I swam in the Loch, and dived deep all thru my teens with no problems. The Nessies even saw me a few times, and swimming away at the surface for a few yards left me with with low health, but they lost interest and left me alone. There are treasure chests down there, and I found 2 green items that I used for several levels, it was very worth it. Don't be afraid to dive! Just keep a sharp lookout.

Those entering Loch Modan through Dun Morogh's South Gate emerge here. The majestic figures carved into the mountain are an imposing sight. Here, you'll find a good amount of quests, namely the Defense of the King's Lands series of quests. It's also a nice self-contained area, and you should gain a level or two here if you've rushed into the area before level 11 or so.
You'll find Forest Lurkers (spiders) and Elder Black Bears here. They're both aggressive and are usually level 11 or 12. A note, the entrance to Searing Gorge is at the southernmost end of the valley, but will be locked off to you for a while. Come back when you have the key to the gate, presumably at a higher level.
