This was rather glitchy for me for some reason. Everything was fine til the quest guys with me died and I used the horn to call for help. Used it, nothing happened. He had about 735k health left at that point. After about 5 minutes I shadowmelded thinking I'd restart the event. Didn't restart but all my dead allies popped up from the ground and started fighting again but it was still going really really slow. So after about 5 more minutes he was down to about 730k and I shadowmelded again and about 20 people popped out from nowhere and knocked the crap out of him, which is prolly what was supposed to happen in the first place. If you get stuck for some reason try dropping combat and see what happens.

yea, was ressing the guys when they died, clicked the horns. had all the flying npc's but the ground npc's were all lying on the ground "Dead" but at full health and not attacking.

this happened at 110k health left, he got the damage reduction buff and it's been 5 minutes, waiting on his health to hit 0.

took 25 minutes to kill him with ths ridiculous 99% damage reduction buff he gets.

Totally bugged out for me. No ground troops whatsoever(well, okay, there were 4 or so guys lying on the ground, full health but no activity), no clues as what to do except try and slowly whittle him down. Which I was doing, as I'm a 85 prot pally, but once he got to about 70%, he must have hit some sort of timer, he nailed me with a punch for 100k.

I tried reloading, I tried abandoning and starting over, even the few times I ended up dying and flying back and rezzing, nothing brought the guys on the ground into action

I can confirm a few of these bugs. I just mutilated him once for 13mil (combined MH and OH hits). Each Shaw/Garona applies a debuff that increases (physical?) damage taken by 20%. When 50 shaws spawn... well you get the picture.

why can't I find the this quest anywhere? did quests for Matthias Shaw until he gave no more, led the assault up the mountain, now nothing. did I miss a quest or two somewhere?

Basically, You run around him. clicking on the altars activating them all, avoiding the shadow death and well him. This will start to rez and bring the others back to life to help kill him, after a bit, wildhammer horn will drop in one of the glowing circles, find it and click and more comes to help kill him.

Quest is bugged from this time onwards till fix. when i get to it, he backhands me, i get up, go there. everyone is dead Kurdran has a green arrow over him, not clickable. just can see his Health at a full bar. no altars to click. tried kiting, nothing just kept getting bashed and splatted. and yes i kept restarting. there is also gryphons apparently "hitting him" with something, but it isn't doing any dmg.

At a complete loss here. so the only conclusion is bugged quest.

This quest was bugged for me the first night I tried it. All the NPCs were lying on the ground and there were no altars to click, no horn, etc.

I went back the next day and noticed that all the NPCs were up and fighting. I tried it again and this time it worked. Start DPSing until you see the altars appear (over the rocks with candles). You'll get a message to start clicking on them, just avoid the one marked altar of shadows.

Periodically a NPC will go down and you will have to right click on them to revive him.

Near the end of the fight you will see a message that a horn has dropped & all your NPC helpers are on the ground again. Click on it to summon reinforcements.

Bugged for me too - I get punted, then fly back up there and see Skullcrusher standing still at 9.5% health left and my 2 NPCs are also standing still. I attack and it says evade. No clickable altars or anything. Abandoned and tried again - same thing.

Got this quest tonight on my Death Knight. Up until this quest, my game was running smoothly, no disconnects or lag whatsoever. As soon as I approach Skullcrusher (after the backhand bit), the game starts to lag out completely, to the point of getting disconnected. When I try logging back onto my Death Knight, the loading takes forever and eventually leads to getting disconnected again.

Waited for a while, logged in again, and as soon as I actually can see the area, it disconnects me again. Elsewhere in Twilight Highlands, the game runs smoothly. I've even been able to get my Death Knight out of the Skullcrusher-area, without being disconnected. But while i'm there, the game is experiencing alot of graphical lag (despite having been reduced to lowest settings), and if I stay too long I get disconnected. Thus, my current problem prevents me from completing the quest.

Right, here's a trick that worked for me. Just like most ppl here, it bugged for me too. It all went well for me till the point where your team dies and you have the click the horns in order to revive them and get reinforcements. (he still has 450k hp at that point)

The problem lies in the last horn. It's under Skullcrusher hoof (feet?) so you can't click it to get reinforcements.

You can do 2 things: either sit back and wait till the gryphion riders finish the job (they are the only ones that don't die or get incapacitated) which takes a long time (I suggest you go eat or fap or something else) OR abandon the Quest. I did this and immediately started the quest again. When I flew back to the platform (after you get knocked off) I noticed that the boss was still on 450k hp but that all the "heroes" (the wildhammer guy, Mathias Shaw, and the healing dude) where all alive and fighting (even tho their unconscious bodies where still lying on the floor). I abandoned again and restarted it, and when I came back there where 2 copies of every hero that where fighting (so 2 Mathias Shaw's, 2 wildhammer guy's and 2 healing dudes). I abandoned again and there where 3 this time. So I did abandoned/restarted a total of 6 or 7 times and in the end there was a whole clone army fighting for me which made it piece of cake to kill him.

Bugged here, on Echo Isles. Same as the rest of you, fly back up, 3 NPCs are just standing there, and he evades. Nothing to click on anywhere. I've abandoned 5 times now to no avail.

Sucks cuz the gloves are a nice upgrade, and the achievement would be nice. I assume it also opens up further quest chains? So no gloves, no achievement, and no quest progression past this until it's fixed.

This is totally glitched so that Skullcrusher is stuck at 988K health with a blue aura, the helpers are just standing there (saying "hunh!" over and over while Skullcrusher moans).

Like the final quest in Vashj'ir, it seems Blizzard got a little too fancy without the in-game testing needed to back it up.

I seem to have a really weird problem with the quest. I get knocked off, ride my drake over to him. Than the NPCs are sitting their with a blue aura around Skullcrusher. I dropped the quest multiple times. All the NPCs do is say 'Hunh!' repeatedly and I can't attack him or do anything. -.-

I have had him down to around 14% 5 times already and see no horn or anything, I keep getting "Low Health" and no npc heal and then die while npcs are still fighting...................so frustrating

After getting a GM to reset the boss, I was able to complete the encounter:

When you arrive, you will see Mathias, Kurdran, and Cassius fighting Skullcrusher at the Altar you were flung off of. When you land, you will need to simply damage Skullcrusher until several of the elemental altars around the platform activate.
Altar of Flame grants: Invocation of Flame.
Altar of Earth grants: Invocation of Earth.
Altar of Air grants: Invocation of Air.
Altar of Frost grants: Invocation of Frost.
A random altar will also become surrounded by shadow, so avoid it and instead activate the others.

Be sure to right click any fallen allies to revive them, and if you are targeted by Fist of Cho'gall say good night, or rush to get Invocation of Earth from the Altars of Earth near you.

Around 1,000,000 health, Kurdran will fall, leaving the Wildhammer Horn on the ground. Use it to summon reinforcements and defeat Skullcrusher.

Well, with all these comments on how it's glitched, mine went fine, albeit a tad long because I wasn't in a group.

I got backhanded away, just like others. A warning said to rush back and kill him. I got there, Kurdran Wildhammer was tanking him, with Matias Shaw and two others fighting (one would heal me for 35k every now and then). I commenced dpsing him as a hunter. Once he got to like 90% health, more messages appeared. They said to activate the altars to receive buffs, while avoiding the dark circle of death which tics for 10k damage.

These are the buffs
Air - Melee, ranged, spell casting speed increased 50%
Fire - Increases damage dealt by 50%
Frost - +50% crit
Earth - Damage taken reduced 50%

Sometimes, I do not know what causes this, I would get a running speed buff.

Every now and then, a warning would say to revive my teammate. It was always Kurdran, and I just right clicked him, and a second later he was tanking again.

The boss would sometimes do an Earthquake move where he would pound the ground, which would cause knockback on my cobra shot and about 3k damage every second.

When he got to like 10%, he grew bigger, with a force field around him. All my attacks only hit for 10-20 damage. Some guy talking said to use his horn, so I did (it was marked with a gree arrow on the ground where Kurdran was usually). Boss shrunk back down, and lost his force field. Reinforcements apparently arrived, but I didn't notice. He lost that last 10% pretty fast.

Went back to Victors Point to turn in.

I too had a glitchy encounter with Skullcrusher, he was at 997K, in a blue vortex and evading all attacks. Tried to abandon and retake te quest, but to no avail. When I decided to wait it out, suddenly the quest kicked in, he started at 100% and I could start slaying him :-D.
Then it hit me: I was queued in the dungeon finder upon taking the quest. After I was kicked from the queue, the quest fired up.

Tried this quest today, and it was bugged. Flew up after he backhanded me - he was evading at 1.1mil hp, and the npcs weren't doing anything. Flew out so I couldn't see any of them, flew back, and he was gone, the npcs were still standing there. I flew back out again roughly as far as he backhanded me (so I couldn't see any of them), and flew back. He was at full health in combat with the npcs, and the rest of the fight went fine.

So if he's evading, or not there, try flying out and back in again.

Tried to do this quest 20 min ago, but he evaded everything and there was nothing to click on anywhere near him. Guess im forced to abandon this quest untill they fix it.... :(

I had heard that this was bugged before I picked the quest up, and true to form, it was. Evade, evade, evade.

I just went elsewhere, without abandoning the quest.

A few days later, having read this thread, I went back and he was attackable. It all went smoothly until the horn dropped and he bubbled - the horn was under his foot. I could see the sparkles, but couldn't click it. I could target it via /tar but could not /use it.

A rogue showed up at this point, and managed to blow the horn. We downed him, and she flew off. I managed to click on her as she flew away, so I could ask her how she did it.

THE TIP: zoom in to first person perspective, and you can blow the horn, even if it is under his foot.

In addition, the rogue also got the credit and the achieve, and we did not group up for the fight, so don’t be afraid to jump in and help.

I wish i could get as far as some of you are saying. The 3 leaders just sit there having a grunting contest waiting for the baddie to give them a golden shower, while it is enveloped in the blue circle of goddness that makes me is useful as companion pet. Tried the whole well 2nd times a charm thing no luck. Good going blizz! No really! Especially since this is not some side quest that give you a few gold and a pat on the shoulder this one gives you a 333 blue and with one actually useful for a hunter and the quest line achievement for this zone >.<

Exact same problem. Have abandoned and started quest 3 times and no go. Also, backed well out of sight and returned many times and still glitched. Stuck at 915K and repeated "huh, huh, huh"

This was first reported in these forums over 3 weeks ago. And, still no fix. Very disappointing performance by Blizzard.

He is still bugged, but is attackable now just finished it a few mins ago took awhile since your attacks won't do much damage least not till the last 1m or so of his health then he goes down like a rock afterwards.

Not Attack-able on Eitrigg, Have a ticket in this is frustrating.
And Rather than resetting the NPC (I ended up having to Log out) they sent me an in game mail stating they are aware of the problem and did absolutely nothing else.

The Bugging is a bit different for me. Seems like everything goes well til he is about 950k hp, goes into a bubble, I blow the horn, reinforcements arrive, then he disappears. Then a minute later he respawns, and the whole event starts over. very frustrating as I'm merely after the achievement. Hope Blizzard works something out soon. My vote- take out the altars, throw a damage increase debuff on him, and remove the whole stupid horn thing anyway, this quest has WAY too much going on to run smoothly. Afterall, it is a quest, and a solo quest at that, not a raid boss or other dungeon encounter. Creativity+1 Efficiency-1

The encounter seemed to work up until he does the blue aura thing, then when I click on the horn on the ground, the Wildhammer guys come, I get a Heroism buff, then everyone in the area phases out and resets. I've given up on this quest after four attempts.

I just tried Skullcrusher and he is bugged got him all the way down to blowing in the horn and the reinforcements coming then Skullcrusher disappears and then resets without giving credit for completing the quest. Opened a ticket haven't heard back.

Tried this repeatedly and had to put in a ticket. I get to the horn part, blow it, the riders show up, do a battle shout and everything vanishes and resets. Or I can't find the horn and have to abandon and restart. Tried it with a pet, without a pet, attacking a lot, attacking not at all, doesn't seem to matter. Had to put in a ticket.

Hi all

I tried yesterday and today for 7/8 times failing as u describes, boss disappear slowly, the light hammer appears over my character and in some seconds, NPC respawn and again...

So, I asked to my guild and 2 people closed the quest abandoning and taking it again and playing the quest SOLO, with no help, no group, alone with NPC and big boss

I also tried 2 times solo but I didnt close the quest, so... it's really bugged?

BTW, I never put tickets... can someone tell me how?

Managed to complete this quest with no issues with my paladin but it totally bugs out the second time around with my shaman. After blowing the horn, Skullcrusher suddenly despawns and nothing more happens until he reappears back at full health and we have to start again. We tried several times and every time we blow the horn he always despawns.

Quest is garbage. Fight goes completely fine for me until the horn drops. Horn is clickable, but the second I do SC disappears, then pops back up full HP about 5 seconds later. I've tried doing it about 15 times and it's no good. Tried it solo and in groups. Tried dropping the quest and getting it again. Nothing works.

I should mention that I had no problem a couple of weeks ago on my Druid. My rogue just can't seem to catch a break... and NO, I'm not dropping combat. Vanishing automatically restarts the event.

I have that the quest proceeds to the point that the boss only has 10% left, after which you get a message that you have to call reinforcements by using the drums. When clicking on them, I see a few orcs on some dragons appearing, after which the boss and the dragons disappear. The three allies just stand there and nothing ticks off and nothing happens. After 30 seconds or so, the boss respawns, at full health, and you can try it again but it'll just do the same thing. I've tried abandoning and relogging, won't work. Didn't get any reply on a ticket I posted either.

Too bad the only reply to a ticket I got was 'We're aware of this situation'.

he keeps dspawning right after i blow the horn, thus no kill. up to that point it seems pretty straight foward and gives prompts as to when an npcs needs revived or the altars become active

Ok, it must be glitching.
I have fought it down to 10% when the horn drops and back up arrives, I click the horn and he grows bigger...freezes.....and disappears, only to respawn in a minute at full health. I did this 7 times same result.

Currently on Ner'zhul he's starting OK, but as soon as you blow the horn and the Wildhammer reinforcements appear, you get a Heroism buff from the NPCs and Skullcrusher immediately despawns without completing the quest. He respawns about 30 seconds later and the event resets. I've done this about 8 times tonight, in groups and solo. We tried some crazy things too -- tried doing one without clicking any altars; same result. Tried not clicking the horn after it dropped; the reinforcements didn't appear, but he still despawned shortly after. Abandoned and retook it; same result.

This is on my shadow priest alt. On my warlock main, a couple weeks ago when I first did this quest, he had the Blessing of Cho'gall buff on him the entire time, the one he normally gets at 10%, giving him incredible damage reduction. It took me and the NPCs, and occasional others who came to help, over an hour to get him down.

Really, Blizzard? Last regular zone quest in the game, and you just can't make it work right? After how long?

This quest bugged out for me, well the alliance version.

I had one of those rare bugs that fell into the player's favor, rather than causing nerd rage.

The bug I had involved 30 Mathias Shaws, and 40 Holy paladin healer helpers.. lets just say that Skullcrusher the Mountain went down quicker than a troll with ED.

This is bugged, and I'm guessing at what is going on is that it is phased, and as more people arrive (enter the same phase) it sort of mucks it up because some are done, some are just starting, etc. I'm going to try to come back sometime when no one is there and see if I can just do it myself. I clicked the alters, i rezzed the guys, i clicked the horn, in the end the calvary and skullcrusher just froze then disappeared entirely leaving my quest unfinished. It restarts on its own, but more and more people keep showing up trying to "help" (or just get the quest finished for themselves as well), but none of us are able to complete the quest.

Still bugged...went about 3 rounds with skullcrusher, did everything it said, activated the poles, revived downed npc's that assist with killing him, and then when i get to the part where your to blow the horn for reinforcements and he is down to a sliver of health, he disappears...im left standing there with the NPC's that aid in the quest and it restarts after a few seconds...so frustrating. I quit until i hear it isnt bugged anymore! ARGH!

This quest is bugged as &*!@. The encounter goes fine until the point where you have to use the horn to summon reinforcements, and then everything just despawns. Moments later, the 3 are back, and Skullcrusher also respawns to start the encounter over again. I've restarted it 3 times and it's done the same thing. Stupid.

I can't get this to complete to save my life...

Dismissed pet, stayed below 100% threat, feigned death (resets it), left dungeon queue, abandoned and restarted, waited for prompts, didn't attack at all, etc, etc.

Nothing seems to work, as soon as I call for reinforcements, the encounter resets.

Same here, blown on the horn, get the heroism buff and skullcrusher despawns. Tried 5 or 6 times today, in group and solo, tried abondoning the quest and starting from scratch. The same thing happens all the time. Very annoying this is the second quest to bug on me, the other being Penetrating Their Defenses

We tried this quest tonight. I did it myself, blew the horn, fight ended.

Another guy needed the quest, we tried again, blew the horn fight ended.

Again by myself, ended.

The same guy came back and this time we didn't blow the horn but kept fighting him. He despawned.

Each time the quest restarts on its own in a very short time. (<1min)

A very long fight for nothing.

i did it a few times. and today i tried again. Now as warlock when he was down and i needed to blow the horn i just melee dps'd him and stunned him right before he normally reset. this worked for me and i got the quest. so maybe this is helpfull for u guys :)

Just completed it on Alleria after about 18 failed attempts yesterday, only thing we did differently Do Not Blow The Horn. The reinforcements still show up, the damage reduction buff he gets will go away, and you'll get Heroism/Bloodlust from the reinforcements to finish him off.

WHAT WORKED FOR ME - The quest bugged out on me many times. Until I tred something different:

Go through the fight sequence (Click on alters to get a buff, avoiding the shadow alter. If a friendly player goes down, click on the friendly player. ) At 10% he gets a shield buff and all your companions become incapacitated. This is when your supposed to click on the horn that's on the ground (but don't click on it right away).

Instead, keep fighting! He does not fight back, so you'll be OK. Wait for his buff to wear off. Once its off, then click on the horn.

I treid this again this week after reading the patch notes, no longer bugged for me. Make sure you blow the horn within 60secs tho, cuz if u dont it will dismiss and start over. But I myself blew it as soon as it came up, got my achieve! WOOT! I was uber pissed when it was bugged! But now its not bugged!

Was pretty easy... Didn't run into a single bug. Maybe it got fixed? =)

1) After being backhanded and momentarily stunned, fly back up and join the fight.

2) Kurdran will tank for you, so you shouldn't have to worry about your hp. Dps till a tip appears on your screen to activate the altars EXCEPT the shadow altar (the shadow altar has a large black circle before it, that has ticking damage if you stand in it). NOTE that the altars change position every few seconds.

Right-click an altar to activate (your cursor will change into the cogwheel). Activated pillars shoot beams, so they're pretty easy to spot. I believe there are 4 pillars to activate, one for each element...

3) Resume dps till Kurdran drops (a tip will appear, as well as the other characters shouting at you to get him back up... poor Kurdran!). Simply right-click on him (cursor will change into cogwheel), he'll be healed for full hp and be back tanking for you.

4) Resume dps, poking Kurdran awake as necessary.

5) A tip will appear when the mob's hp is low; your elite NPCs will be lying on the ground. Look for the Wildhammer horn lying next to Kurdran, and right-click it. Your NPCs will be back up, along with reinforcements. Resume dps.

In short, just pay attention and follow the instructions given. =)

As of January 18, a hotfix has been implemented to prevent Skullcrusher from improperly despawning when Reinforcements are called via the Horn. Will try this fight later today, and reply back as to whether the hotfix worked for me.

I had this quest bug out on me a few times and couldn't figure out why. Once I dismissed my
ferocity pet to get a cunning one once he was low, despawn. Feigned death when I got high on agro, desapwn.

The one where it worked I pretty much ran around clicking alters the whole time. Didn't change my pet, kept my sting up, everything went through normally (took a while though).

Hope this helps other people.

Ok, I've just done this achievement, so it does work. The trick is to stand right next to Kurdran Wildhammer so when he is knocked out that you can revive him and blow the horn for reinforcement when it's time. Also, you need to activate the altars around the boss when mentioned in chat log. Pay attention to chat log and you'll be fine. It was easy enough, you will get healed all the time.

Did this yesterday and it was fixed.

Keep in mind that even with the NPCs fighting, anything you do to clear aggro/leave combat will result in everything de-spawning and you having to drop the quest and start over.

So no rogue vanish>ambush/other favorite stealth ability.

I think that was the most anti-climatic ending to a fight ever =P

Everything just stopped, and after whacking at the guy for so long, felt like they coulda at least cheered or something when we finally killed him - I nearly did!

Just keep on attack him after blowing the horn, and the quest will be OK.

If looks bugged, but it is not. I done it on 3 different chars.

*IF* you have a ranged attack you can stand at the eastern side where there is a pathway/bridge area that leads into the battle area. If you stand outside the battle area and attack from there you will take no damage.
When you are asked to use the altars for support just use one of the two by the path entry area- never using the shadow altar. Even when the shadow altar procs near you it will not be able to harm you. Once the request comes to aid fallen comrades just run in and activate the controls on the downed body and then run back out. This was effective for me although the battle does take quite a while. When he's down to about 10% you are told to use a horn (it drops by the Gronn) and must be activated-this was a bit buggy but finally worked. You will take no damage at that point because the Gronn is incapacitated. Once the horn is blown reinforcements show up to finish him quickly. I did this with both hunter and mage -do not cast misdirect on pet as they *can* pull aggro and will be pulped.

I got through it but didn't see any messages about the buffs so it took 4 tries and a long time to bring him down. I didn't have to blow the horn just pick it up and it blew. He gets very tough at about 10% health so burst him if you can.

Did this tonight solo, 85 hunter, no problems. Use the altars, revive Kurdran when he goes down by right-clicking him, run to the horn in the center when it spawns and blow it to revive, people.

No bugs, lots of tension (when he hits you, he hits you HARD, and stay out of the shadow altar aura), but a fun quest and FINALLY finished with Twilight Highlands.

Just despawned for me.. I did this like 6 months ago on my main, but not working now.

You can do this quest solo with any class. All you have to do is to hit the boss initially to start the ball rolling, then let the NPCs do all the job. All you have to do is to activate altars once in a while, revive NPCs and stay out of trouble. May be occasionally hit him. It takes forever though. But it works.

If you get killed, just to fly back on the platform and wait a minute. The boss will reappear. No need to cancel.

Rather annoying, but when the three NPCs get knocked out, if you can't seem to find the Horn, go in to first person mode and walk in to one of his feet. Recently did this and spent about 30 seconds running around like an idiot looking for the horn, only to discover that when he KOs the three and enlarges, his foot can hide Kurdan's entire body AND the horn, leaving you completely clueless as to where he is.
