Alliance players: to reach this quest, you must accept War on the Woodpaw from Adella at Shadebough, and go on to finish Alpha Strike. Turning in this quest will grant you Zukk'ash Infestation and Stinglasher.
Once you complete those two quests, in addition to the side-quest: It's Not "Ogre" Yet you will be sent back to the Gordunni Camp to complete Sasquatch Sighting and Taming the Tamers. At this point, with both the Writhing Deep and Gordunni Outpost chains completed, Spiteful Sisters becomes available from Adella, which chains into this quest.

Niether Dreamer's Rest, Feathermoon Stronghold, nor Tower of Estulan are pre-requisites, although actions performed at Dreamer's Rest are mentioned.

On quest acceptance, Ysondre summons Taerar:

Ysondre yells: Come forth, Taerar! I stand before you!
Taerar yells: I knew you'd return, Ysondre...It was only a matter of time...
Ysondre says: I've returned only to end this, Taerar. This land will finally have peace.
Taerar says: Peace? PEACE?
Taerar yells: Peace is but a fleeting dream! Let the NIGHTMARE reign!

You need to engage Taerar in the next 15 seconds otherwise he despawns and you have to take the quest again. When he dies:

Taerar yells: My essence...will...persist...

And then Ysondre gives the next quest Ysondre's Farewell (Alliance) or Ysondre's Farewell (Horde), stating that she cannot rejoin the green dragonflight.

This quest takes a bit of TLC if you're a high-level toon doing Loremaster (I was lvl 85). If you just attack (killing him with first hit, natch), the boss despawns.

Rather, engage him with a nerf hit that won't do much damage in order to let Ysondre do some damage first. THEN it's ok to wipe him out. (I used Arcane Torrent to engage without doing too much damage).

I found what may be a bug. As a hunter I find that if you are engaged by Taerar and your pet attacks before you do, Taerar will bug out and you will fail the quest, even though you still have to fight him. Ysondre won't engage.

What worked for me was setting my pet to passive and just letting Taerar get 2-3 hits off then attack him and Ysondre should engage.

Indeed, Ysondre is not engaging at this time, and that causes the quest to time out or something. As a level 47 lock, I tried Nirem's trick above, and it didn't work. What DID work, however, was this: after the quest failed, Ysondre got the exclamation point over her head again, and I opened and accepted the quest while still fighting Taerar. Ysondre started her script again, but no second Taerar spawned. Once Taerar was dead, I was able to hand the quest back in to Ysondre like normal.

I can see a few problems with that if you're level 38, though... if you take too long to kill him maybe a second Taerar might spawn, or you might not be able to down him without Ysondre's DPS...

Ysondre might script as a pet... I would suggest you try dismissing your pet first if you're only 38.

As a lvl 40 warlock, I also had to put my pet on passive. Wait and let Ysondre start her attack before I attacked. Taerar doesn't do big damage and Ysondre casted a hot on me. It was easy to complete at that point. I had to kill him 4 times before I finally looked it up and took Nirem's advice on the passive pet plan. :)

As a 39 Hunter I put my pet on passive. I failed several times by standing on the opposite side of the butte. Stand next to Ysondre and fight. This seems to activate her and we defeated the evil dragon. Yeah.

44 Warlock. I didn't put my pet on passive, but I had to cast Drain Life rather than Soul Burn or the quest would fail even tho I killed the boss. I succeeded while fighting from the opposite side of the butte from Ysondre.

I suggest that this quest is bugged. That's just way too subtle. What's the point of having some strange timeout that isn't evident. Just have the sucker spawn and kill it. If Ysondre wants to buff the char then fine, that should have nothing to do with some strange timeout. Apparently mages and warlocks must use some instant cast spell or some timeout occurs.

My conclusion is this is a bugged quest.

Taerar might not immediately despawn after failing or abandoning the quest. I summoned him and stood out of range of aggro. An hour later, he was still on the hill; quite impressive and blending in with the green scenary. To reach the quest giver to re-accept the quest, I had to kill it.

I killed Taerar 2 times standing on the opposite side of the butte as Ysondre, and got failed twice. When I tried it again standing next to Ysondre, it worked. I thought the quest was bugged, but apparently to 'activate' Ysondre, you need to be standing next to her, or at least I had to. My minion was not on passive, and as soon as I could engage, I did. Happy hunting.

I was so grateful to the first tip on here. I fought that stupid dragon 4 times and was getting frustrated. Lvl 45 hunter, had to put my pet on passive, start the mission, then just stand there beside Ysondre and let him attack me 3 times. Then she finally engaged, running back to start attacking. THAT'S when you can set your pet back to assist and you can open fire on the pesky dragon.

Just like a lot of these comment suggest, Ysondre was not engaging for me, and the quest would fail.
All i had to do was stand in front of Ysondre while Taerar does his "Breath" attack, it hit Ysonder and she engaged like she should.
