There is a rock to the left of the entrance behind which you can hide from his fire breath. After a couple of shots with the Bootzooka the Turtle will be down. Behind the corpse you will find a plane where you can hand in the quest. Hang on for the ride that follows ;)

Seems to me (rogue) that you cant kill him straight up.

Solutions

1. Bring a friend

2. Bring a health potion (works best if you have another char so you can mail it to the goblin)

Simple if you know what you're doing. You'll die if you don't but that's part of learning. (Yes, I 'learned.')

Part way up, there is a rock to your right that you can hide behind when he starts to cast his fire breath. The "e" and "q" buttons are useful here. Dart out and blast him then get behind the rocks. Repeat until he's dead.

When he's dead, DO NOT LEAVE. Behind the corpse is the next stage of the quest. Go behind him to the plane, complete and accept, and continue.

Apparently you're not supposed to die during the fight, otherwise you can't get back to the questgiver due to the phasing.

On my way up I couldnt escape and I got killed and was transported to the graveyard close to the cave. GOOD! Because I wasnt penalized when getting resurrected because I was lvl 10 or lower! :)

if you do get kicked out of the Volcano, there is a path on the Western side of the caldera, it is behind the Northern most part of the Oostan settlement. you can see it on the map on this help page.

If however your refering to the actual area Volcaneth is in after the combat, there is a path into that area, via the South, near Oomlet village, it's a long run though. You enter via a cave.

I just did the quest on my goblin rogue. I used the bootzooka, then shadowstep. It landed me right under that turtle instead of behind it. There was no way that thing was going to breath fire on me from where I was. I used the device provided twice more, and it died on top of me.

The best way to kill this guy is just stand underneath him and rapid fire him. He goes down quick. When he turns to shoot fire at you just run to the middle of his belly and continue firing, rinse, repeat. Works like a charm, no damage!

can anyone help - I killed volcanoth but hearthstoned back to town now I cant get back anyone have an idea?

If you die on this quest or used the heartstone, request GM help.

Ask him to port you back to the NPC who ends the quest (happened to me).

I got flustered when I rezzed in the back of the cave and I hearthed to the Town In A Box. There was no way to run back. Long story short: I dropped the quest, quit my session, logged back in again, and the phasing got me back to a place where I could run back. Unfortunately, the first time I got there was via some kind of McGuffin/MacGyver that one of the NPCs provided in a breadcrumb quest to get there. So, in the second run, after I relogged, that device was no longer available. I had to run her through a few villages of hostile NPCs, dying several times on the way.

As for the fight, I found that I had better results setting my hunter pet on it and standing behind the outcrop on my left. I don't know if Volcanoth does this with every class, but it would take a breath towards the entrance and then turn and take a breath towards the back of the cave. I set the camera angle so I could see when the tail was facing my 'toon, and blasted it in the hindquarters. I think, but am not sure, that DBM was telling me when it was taking a breath. It could be default game behavior, but if not, try loading DBM.
