I dont know if anyone else had this problem, but the mammoth calf, stayed with me..and is still with me. I dont know if its a glitch in the quest or what, but even after i completed the entire chain, it still stayed with me. Has this been happening to you?

If you for some reason lose the calf, just abandon quest and pick it up again.

What happened to me was that I decided to do the quest later, and kept avoiding the place so I don't go back and forth all the time.. in the meantime I forgot where I picked it up, because I realized that without the calf I cannot give in the quest.. anyways, I decided to check out the drop-out point, came there, spoke with the big mammoth, and the quest was solved? :)
So, my guess is that it may work too this way..
I lost the calf shortly after I got it (I think I entered some quest or something), but still "had" it when giving in the q..
Don't know if this happened to someone else..

This quest is bugged. I lost the calf 2 times and now I can't pick up the damn quest again. It's so frustrating!

So after having the Calf disappear very soon after getting the quest with no combat or anything like that five time in a row, I realized that its considered a companion. This means that if you put out another companion pet (like with a pet mod) the calf will go away. So you may need to disable any pet auto rotate mods you have.

Just completed this quest, while having no calf with me whatsoever. So, if you lose the calf try walking next to the quest npc and see what happens.

You do not need to have the mammoth calf following you anymore when you go up to khu'nok, you can just go up to him and you should get credit.

Another thing I noticed while doing this quest is that the mammoth calf you get can be a variety of colors. I abandoned it a few times and eventually settled for a cute blue one after seeing a standard grey one, a greenish one, and a pink one.

The mammoth calf only goes standard run speed and will not be able to keep up if you mount, but since they changed it so you only have to approach khu'nok calf or no calf now it really doesnt matter. I let my cute blue one keep up with me all the way to khu'nok, though :)

This mammoth will follow you almost anywhere, now with the new system where pets remain summoned unless you specifically desummon them yourself. I did this quest today, and the mammoth would despawn like he was supposed to, but then every time I zoned into a new area (like used a portal or hearthed) he was resummoned. Very strange, indeed!

Edit: He was even still there after logging out and back on. What a dedicated little mammoth! Let's see if we can get him to stick around for raid tonight.... :)

Yup, mine is still with me too. Been this way for a few days. He gets in the way of everything so it's kind of annoying. Plus, all the mammoth poop everywhere...

I summoned one of my other companions and the little rascal disappeared. most of the time he completely blocked questgivers or loot-items.

I've been having this problem too; I picked up the quest without really reading the text while doing a bunch of the D.E.H.T.A stuff and then left NR with plans to come back later, and after that I found the mammoth calf following me everywere. I had to look through my quest log to see what it was even from. And what made it reallying annoying is that I'm an Unholy-Spec DK with my Ghoul out all the time, so it was getting crowded.
Today I finally went to turn in the quest over a week after having picked it up (my mammoth never died during that time); I merely flew up to mother-mammoth & it immediately said "Complete", I clicked on her to turn it in & picked up the next one in the chain. Then I hearthed back to SW... the orphaned mammoth calf was STILL with me!

So I used this solution to get rid of her: I opened my CompanionPet page in my spellbook, clicked on one of my pets to summon it--which made the mammoth go away since summoning one pet automatically dismisses another--then re-clicked on my regular pet button to dismiss it... VOILA! No more stupid glitched mammoth.

As of patch 4.1, the orphan will keep coming if you dont summon another companion pet. I figured this out on my hunter, which already has a big rhino. I hope to see this little fellow into a hunter pet one day.

Edit: After completing the quest, copied this hunter to the public test realm and changed to another race there.
It managed to copy itself as well.

Mine has followed me all the way to Stormwind and on to Hellfire Peninsula. I'm glad I'm not playing a rogue -- this guy would be the end of all stealth...!

Edit: Okay, after Hellfire I went through Nagrand, Terokkar, and eventually back to Northrend, with the little orphan following faithfully all the way. Changing continents, logging off and on, signing off for hours at a time -- nothing seemed to discourage him.

However, this morning he died, all on his own, while I was questing. He lasted me about 14 real time hours or more.

Edited again: He's ba-a-ack. It's a miracle -- he's following me again, even after I watched him die...!

Edited yet again: Seriously, this little elephant zombie is stalking me...
