You'll notice they bare a strong resemblance to the 'bugs' on Starship Troopers. Which also ties in with Razak Ironsides, the leader of Toshley's Station. He uses quotes from the movie's lieutenant such as "I have one rule. Everyone fights, no one quits." etc.
Most of the culture around the Toshley's Station area bares a strong resemblance to the movie in several different ways.

This ravager will no longer change colors in Cata. He'll only appear in his purple coloration

Indeed. This guy is now colour-stable when tamed and is the only ravager in the game with this awesome colour combination ('CrawlerPurple'). The closest colour in another ravager is the blue/pink/fluoro purple ('CrawlerVar7') look of the

According to petopia, when trained, this pet will have a random coloring every time you summon him. If so, this is the pet I'll be going after.

With gore, growl and bite these nasty critters hold agro like champs.
I could never do a high damage skill combo with my wolf without pulling agro almost every time unless I used intimidate about half way through a cycle.
At first I thought I'd just get one of these for the sake of having Gore lvl 8 but after working it up to "best friend" and seeing what an excellent agro anchor these things are, I might just ditch one of my wolves for two of these.

I've been using a Ravager since I could tame one at lvl 61. I have the Quillfang Skitterer and I just got the rip-blade ravager from Blades Edge. While I like my green and purple ravager, the color changing ability of the rip-blade variety is very very cool. It adds a bit of variety to your pet, which is essentially useless, but fun nonetheless. Rip Blade comes standard with gore rank 9 (highest gore rank) and dash rank 3 (highest dash rank), where most of the low to mid lvl 60's ravagers only come with a bite or gore rank 8, dash 2, or nothing at all. This is a very nice DPS pet right out of the box, and with some natural armor and greater stamina, as well as the newly learnable cobra reflexes skill, this guy (as with all ravagers) are some serious caster killers for pvp, and hold aggro well for grinding mobs.
All ravagers seem to be a bit lacking in the HP department, but properly trained this can be easily amended.
At loyalty lvl 1 and no training points utilized, my rip-blade has over 7500 armor and over 4300 HP, 1.67 attack speed and 114.6 DPS. Yes, I'm BM spec, so that increases his stats quite a bit. I imagine a MM or Surv spec hunter will not have as much fun with this pet at initial training, but hey, like I've said, it's a great DPS pet, it can hold aggro, has the highest rank of 2 abilities, and it changes colors. For the hunter who likes DPS pets, I give this one 5 stars.
I can't wait to get this guy up to 70.
The only place these Ravagers can be found is in Blades Edge Mountains, right outside Toshley's station.

I'd been interested in a DPS pet for a while now and back in my 40's had gone to bloodmyst and tamed a ravager but it didn't work out(couldn't stand the grind to get him to my level).
I decided to go get a rip-blade for the double top end abilities (dash, gore) that come with it and the chameleon effect.
Awesome pet, holds aggro like a champ and does a substantial bit of damage for a Marksman's pet.
They are right at the top of the trail heading into Toshley's station in Blade's Edge Mountains. I cut through the Orebor harborage in Zangarmarsh to get there.

T.T dude.. rare or elite does NOTHING for the beast once it is tamed... for example, if you tamed Sian-Rotam in Winterspring, he would be no more powerful than a cat out of the barrens that was leveled to 60.... seems people still need to get that through their thick skulls >.>

I love how these ravagers change color, but it may be nerfed soon like what happened to one of the windserpants. Son of Hakkar I believe.

I love these ravagers good DPS u can also go train a Dreadfang Lurker at lv 64 and go get Bite rank9 and put it on this pet even better than before. Just pondering if any1 could give me the best possible pet+skills for a PVP pet to have in reserve to this PvE pet.

Got this pet for my hunter today as i was planning to get the top end skills for my previous pet ( dash, gore ). However, when noticing that it changes color im sticking with this one. Its a fun novelty.
Being a "ravangerlover" ( got my first venturing to dranei startingarea with my troll ) i think they are kind of cute in a twisted, creepy sort of way ;P Cats are just plain boring.
As for the color change. It changes when u summon pet, mount / dismount, Taking a flight and probably something more that i forgot.
All and all, a lovley pet to have.
Edit. For the bite rank 9 i tamed a dreadfang widow just outside the cenarion caravan.

Most convient pet in the game to find.
Right outside of the Toshley's Station FP. You can see them from where you land.
As of today, it's still tamable, has 3 diffrent skins that cycle as you summon it, has the last Gore rank (9) and also has Dash 3.
I'm strictly a boar guy myself, but this guy is a close second.

My rogue friend and I were just running up from Zangermarsh Arborage and wondering where the paths went. I stumbled upon these ravagers and my friend said here is one that is peach and purple!
My Beast Lore said Gore 9 and Dash 3, wow! So I abandoned my green ravager and get this guy.
Man was I freaked out when I mounted up and then stopped to kill a beast. He had turned purple! I almost went back to look for another one but then I noticed he changed every time I mounted and dismounted--- wow... freakin awesome, and I stumbled on him totally by accident.
The hard part is trying to name him. I am thinking of flipper or frisbee or who knows what. But I love the color changing!

Has anyone used this pet in Kara? If so how did it go? And how did it compare to a cat? I have a lv 70 cat I usually bring to Kara. And the other hunter I run with has the same cat. So wanted to bring something different =P Any input would be appreciated.

I tamed a Rip-Blade ravager and I found them around a gnome settlement - don't tame one near the camp because gnome guards come and kill it. I have also noticed that they do change colour when re-called. When I tamed it, it was the purple/flame red etc then I birded back to Telaar and when the ravager re-appeared, it was mostly orange. I logged out of the game and back in again and now it is back to its original colour.
For those who have co-ords, they are around 60,69 in a place called Toshley's Station, Blade's Edge Mountains. I have posted a screen shot.
Hope this helps

I tamed the Quill fang Ravanger first. He already had Bite 8 and Gore 8. Now I am currently level 65 about to be 66 tonight. I plan on going back to Hellfire and getting this Rip-Blade Ravager just to learn Gore 9. After I learn this ability I will dismiss him and then use my Quill fang Ravager from now on and teach him GOre 9 of course.
Ravagers hit hard and fast. I love it. He tanks very well and I rarely pull aggro with BM spec.

A note to the timid of heart.... While the Rip Blade Ravagers are ALL level 63, they are sequestered in an area surrounded on all sides by lvl 65-68 beasts. Taming one is no problem, ONCE YOU GET THERE.
I headed there last night as soon as I dinged 63, and am now the proud owner of Fluffy! He came with Gore 9 and Dash 3, as advertised. I got him up to loyalty lvl 5 in a couple of hours, taught him Bite 8, Growl, and Natural Armor 10. Once he gets to loyalty lvl 6, I will train him in the highest lvl Great Stamina available. After 64-65, I will probably re-train for Bite 9.
Deals MASSIVE damage, and holds aggro like a champ. The color-changing ability is a nice distraction, but no matter what color he is, when he is bearing down on someone, glowing with Bestial Wrath, they WILL notice! (probably they will notice he is eating their face...)

I don't like the idea of giving up my excellent wolf, but at level 62 he can't hold aggro like I need him to. I have a boar who is doing great for me, holds aggro fine, but he doesn't do the damage this guy can.
I am going to ding 63 soon and trade my wolf for one of these. I will not train him in bite. Dash, Gore, and Growl are all you need. Beef up stamina and armor, and you should be set.
For a 63 Horde char, you go north of Swamprat, and through a cave that is full of level 65 spiders. Once you get through the cave, go north to the Horde settlement AVOIDING THE LEVEL 66 FLYING MONSTERS COMPLETELY. If you aggro one you can't run into town to escape them. They chased me into and all through the town, and the guards didn't help.
Once you have made it to town, get the FP and locate the stablemaster. When you are ready for the taming, leave your good pet there and take a trash pet for the taming. You do NOT want to be petless in this area.
The flying Bloodletter things are very aggressive, and if you can't avoid, outrun, or kill a level 66-67 creature on your own then you will be in BIG trouble. If you can sic your trash pet on them and run for it you have a better chance.
South of the Horde town, east of the spider cave is a winding road that runs up hill and directly to the Ravagers. They are near the road and easy to get at from the road. Very near them is a Alliance settlement full of Gnomes. Stay near the west side of the road to avoid the Gnomes, who periodically send out a pack of outrunners.
Don't worry about the color of the one you tame. The color changes, they are actually all the same.

OK, got my Ravager, and it was an easy tame. I abandoned my old wolf, put down an ice trap, start the process, and it pretty much is done by the time the trap expires.
Gore 9 Dash 3 and taught him Growl 7. I believe he needs no other skills. Gore has no cooldown so he can use it all he wants.
If you were wondering, the color-change is still in effect as of this writing. Every time he reappears (after flying, dismounting, etc.) there is a chance he will be a different color.

After reading this thread, I am getting the feeling that if someone already has a well-trained cat and have been using it for a long time then there is no reason to switch to a ravager. It looks like the added benefit of gore over claw is negligible; at which point, the decision then comes down to its looks.
Is that a correct observation?
Personally, I prefer the look of the cat over the ravager, but I would most definitely switch to a ravager if it were to improve my performance.

Excellent pet, high DPS, changes appearance, and doesn't get in the way of targeting too much.
It wasn't hard at all to tame either (though getting into blade's edge mountains was a bit annoying).
It took me about 34000 exp of grinding (unrested) to get this pet from rebellious to unruly.
As far as food is concerned, just stock up on smoked talbuk venison, it's everywhere.

I'd love this pet if it weren't such a picky eater. My Humar eats pretty much anything, but after I tamed this little bugger and tried to feed it some Blackened Basilisk from Zangar, it wouldn't eat it. It's supposed to eat Meat and Raw Meat, but you still have to watch out for certain types that are considered fish even though Basilisks are a land based beast.

Can confirm as of September 18th 2021 that these ravagers have lost their color changing ability in Classic TBC. After 20+ attempts my yellow rip-blade ravager remained yellow each time I called it.
It's a shame that one of the most mechanically unique and interesting classes in classic is also the one that suffered the most when the game was ported over to the modern engine, and bugs still exist that were submitted to the classic team almost two years ago that were never fixed.
It's a crying shame what happened to this company. They've lost all pride in their work.
