as they said at wowinsider.com "wait for the 25 man raid to buff up and get ready for a boss pull while everyone is close to each other, then use the train and everyone starts uncontrollably spamming /train at the same time" omg... this is so freakin awesome, i would love to do this just before a big end raid boss fight for any 25 man. sure to $%^& a few people off, but after the initial shock i'm sure 1/2 the raid will be wetting their pants w/laughter (the first time).

I don't know about you guys, but causing this much mischief at one time is worth the 250g price tag, and that price will probably keep me from doing it more than once anyways. Good times ^.^

Try using this near busy mailbox or Aucioneer for serius fun, better turn down volume :D.

Train works for 90 seconds and "ticks" each 8 seconds.

And, just like Piccolo, it doesn`t work on opposite faction :(.

Some actually did this on 25man sapphiron in my guild. And let say it like this it wasnt just like 4 people crashing becaouse of this. It was more like 12 also vent got spammed by "trainsounds" while raidleader was explaining tactics.
It went like " Stay away from the.....Thuggethugge...dutt...duuuu.. rain?".

If by annoying, you mean utterly hilarious. It's a cute prank, and if it's THAT annoying to you, keyboards have a quick mute key on them for a reason these days!

Dropped one in the Stormwind Auction House earlier, had a level 34 Dwarf Hunter just go berserk with rage. Obviously confused, he kept demanding that everyone "shut up", then a few choo-choo's thereafter threatened to start taking down names and reporting the people "spamming" the emote.

Every time I hit up Stormwind I get at least one crazy. People start threatening physical violence, wishing diseases upon each other, screaming and shouting and just totally losing it.

Toy Trains are serious business, and don't you ever forget it.

For everyone who can't stand people dropping this in raids anymore, but also don't want to completely turn off their sounds I recommend the addon "Train Wreck".

It removes any ingame sounds used by the train set and can be downloaded from the usual sites, like

Combine this fabulous item with the Piccolo from Stratholme for annoying your raid every 30 minutes.

Great when the raid is buffing up, I suggest using it during Patchwerk on the pack of ranged DPS.

There's a fine difference between a prank and outright griefing with it. If you have people who are doing it during progression content to purposefully interrupt you and cause issues, that'd be a better time to gkick than to raid kick.

Being uptight, however, is just as uncool as griefing with it. Enjoy your burn out if you're raging on people for dropping trains and crashin' thrashin' robots during farm mode raids. Me, the primary healer of the guild and our MT/GM of the guild chain our trains whenever we get a chance, there are always picnic baskets, robots wandering around, pet biscuits, etc.

Our raids are fun, it's a video game afterall. There's a proper level of seriousness for any level of content to your own experience that should be met with a certain level of common sense. There are no extremes that need to be enforced, and if they are, I greatly pity your members.

The effect of multiple trains DO stack. By placing two of these, the train sounds will go in intervals, cutting off any current "Choo"s in progress.

Train Fun:

Dropping your train:

In a full AH (usually triggers someone else to use a piccolo or their own train for twice the choo choo fun)
Over the bodies of dead Alliance/Horde members that fail-raided the city & have not yet released. (Cruel, but fun)
In a 25 man raid (do NOT admit to dropping the train in pugs or you will get scolded or even kicked!)
Holiday event gatherings ( like the trees during Winter Veil)

While they may annoy the hell out of some people I think they are just the cutest little things, shame about the cool down but I guess we have to give people a break once in a while ;)

In the mean time /training as a battlecry still makes the victories all that much sweeter.

Oh, & since no one seems to have mentioned it, since this wonderful toy is sold in Dalaran, once you become exaulted, the toy train only costs 200G not 250G.

Aran's Incomplete List of Awesome Spots for Your Toy Train Set:

Place it right near the Wintergrasp portal guy when there's five minutes until the next game.
Any busy AH, bank, or mailbox, of course.
The center of Kel'thuzad's room.
During raid breaks or buffing time when most people are AFK in one spot.
On top of the Dalaran flight master or near the badge vendors.
Drop it whenever you're in a battleground during the preparation phase.
The middle of Goldshire where people are dueling. May drive a noob low level to the brink of insanity and confusion, extra points!
If you're melee, during any raid fight where the boss is kept in a certain spot indefinitely (most Naxx fights, Patchwerk might be even more hilarious.)
Make your pug group hate you by putting it down during HoL (Bronzebeard fight with pewpew lazer room) or Nexus (lots of stationary bosses where you don't need to necessarily spread out or move).
Turn Malygos' encounter into a train station during phase 2 (magic shields).
Placing it where your tank tanks Sartharion will definitely make him/her ~~hate~~ love you forever.
Naxxramas summoning stone. (Great way to exhibit your love for all the people who make summoning impossible!)

Best places to place the Trainset:

#3: Stormwind AH : noobs still think its the players fault

#2: Naxx summonstone : get in or go nuts

#1 WG portal when your faction is on the attack :
2 full raidgroups usualy packed near the portal.

extra: if u like using the trainset u prob love
mages that put portals to Darnassus at the place
where the WG portal spawnes.

Nothing better then to send a whole raidgroup to Darnassus.

Another fun use: go down to the sewers where all the people are doing the fishing daily quest, and toss down the train set. Many of them will have Fishing Buddy installed, which automatically boosts your volume to 100% so you can hear the quiet splash of the bobber better. Suddenly everyone's screaming out train noises at 100% volume...hilarity ensues.

It won't affect everyone, but it'll affect some. :)

One day I was sitting in the SW Auction House, minding my own business, when all of a sudden an undead rogue pops out of stealth and kills all three auctioneers. I didn't mind much, as I was only mindlessly browsing for anything of use. But a good number of people were angered.

After they yelled on trade for a good amount of time, I remembered that I had the train set in my pack. I jumped onto the stage in the AH, and threw this baby on the floor.

"All aboard, the Pain Train! Choo-choo!"

I can imagine the looks on their faces as numerous AHers were forced to Alt + tab out of their WoW.

I wish to offer an opposing point of view on this item, as a raid leader who frequently has to manage and educate those whom I organize to clear content:

I regularly lead 25-man raids. Every week we clear both regular and heroic Naxxramas and Sartharion. If someone uses this item, or anything like it (such as the piccolo from Stratholme) in one of my raids, I warn them to stop. If they don't stop, I figure out who it is by parsing the combat log, then boot them from the raid.

Some might say this shows a lack of sense of humor, or being a "nerd".

It isn't fun for anyone who belongs in an instance when your sound channels are spammed with 25 characters loudly emoting in unison again and again. It's downright infuriating when these things distract players from what is being said over voice chat or what is happening in the encounter.

When players are distracted they play less well, and this results in wasted time and wipes. That's not fun for ANYONE.

Few people who utilize these obnoxious items in a raid play or have ever played a leadership role. They often react with petulance when they are told their conduct is disruptive and/or undesired. Yet they impose this auditory spam on others, such that the other individuals in the raid are compelled to either mute all game sound (which prevents them from hearing sounds they enjoy, or need to hear for situational awareness) or to exclude the offending individual from their company - hence, the raid kick.

Whether it's real life or a game, when one imposes on others, by engaging in obtrusively obnoxious or offensive behavior, it is that person who is being rude, not those who are left with little recourse on correcting this behavior.

It's like showing up at a party with a boombox blasting at full volume then wondering why you got pushed out the door.

Some would say that to take this item's capacity to be obnoxious too seriously, given it is after all just a virtual train set in a MMO. But this logic cuts both ways: Isn't it equally "nerdy" to find a tacky virtual train set amusing? Real train sets are works of masterful craftsmanship, visually and aesthetically attractive. If individuals find this crude representation attractive, that's their choice. But they have no right to impose it on others.

If you are in a raid and you are asked to stop using this item, please do so. To do otherwise would be imposing on others and extremely rude. Those who are persistent in this deserved to be kicked not only for being disruptive, but also for being inconsiderate of those around them.

I love the train set and all but the poster had a valid point and explained it well.

I'd also like to point out he is asking people nicely not to use the train set and kicking only if they continue doing so which is perfectly reasonable IMO.

Well tonight I had a unexpected success with this little wonder..

I have put this thing down in the Stormwind Auction House and well people came pouring out of the Auction house once they realized what was in there.

Yes I can be a nuisance at times. But hey if you look at things from my point of view you have to have times when you have to take your helmet off and breathe the fresh and free air every once in a while.

The cost is 200g in Dalaran.
You can use it as many times as you want, it doesn't go away after the first time.
It will only have an effect on people which are at around 2-5 yards away from the planted train set maximum.
The train works for about 1 minute and 45 seconds, it has a cooldown of 30 minutes.
People are able to "remove" the effect from themselves in the same way as you remove a buff, but if they stay within the "2 yard" range, the effect will come back.
The effect is, everyone does /Train over and over again during this time.
If you plant the train, you will kneel down as when you summon a pet, other than that there will be no indications showing that you put the train set out.

This is one of the most brilliant and evil plans Blizzard has ever created:

Step 1: Release REALLY annoying and potentially damaging object that you know people will use.

Step 2: Release cure to said item from step 1 but give it a long CD allowing another person to use the item again, thus making new cure item sometimes useless.

Step 3: Release NEW item that does the same thing as the item in Step 2 except it has no CD and is therefore a completely flawless solution. This new item however, costs irl money.

Step 4: PROFIT!

Obviously a Blizzard solution, not only is it needlessly complicated (the train set could have just been removed from the game) it also results in Blizzard getting more money :P
