There seems to be a small margin of around 1-2 quests per zone in Outland. In the old Azeroth it is much harder to track, since there have been some events such as the scourge invasion, and there are a lot of racial or class-specific quests there, but I've pretty much completed the Lorekeeper of Eastern Kingdoms and I'd say you have very small margin. I could hardly find a single NPC in Eastern Kingdomswith a (non-repeatable) quest for me, even computing raid quests and other events such as said scourge invasion.
EDIT: Confirmed, the repeatable quests never count, unless the first time is an specific quest per-se (for example, "Bring me whatever stuff" and "More stuff", only the 1st one would count). Instance quests count for their continent. Quests count in the continent you have
completed
them. Eg: Guy in Tanaris sends you to pick some stuff in Maraudon and you have to complete the quest in Booty Bay, then it is an Eastern Kingdoms quest. Anyway, Blizzard should realy have sub achievements by region in Azeroth too, since it is very difficult to track where is the quests you're missing.
Quests count no matter how little they are. Those "talk to the guy next to me" and "then speak to the guy again" quests are heaven.
NEVER try to do this achievement if you don't get fun questing without a direct reward. It can be either really funny or utterly boring depending in whether you like it or not. Sounds dumb, but it is the most important thing to have in mind before even considering the Loremaster title. Hope that helped.
PD: That was as a gnome mage, don't know if other class/race combos are easier, like draeneii or classes with long epic quest-chains, but certainly my combination is quite hard, very specially in Kalimdor.

I've found that if you would like a head start on this achievement before next patch (3.0.2 - when low level quest tracking is implemented) then it is a good idea to do these things:
-
Use the WoWHead maps.
They show bullet points on a map for all questgiver locations in that zone.
-
Group with low level people.
I know, they can waste some time. BUT, they can also share quests that you may have missed. By doing this I completed an additional 4 or so quests in Redridge and a least 10 in Westfall, very helpful little suckers!
-
Double check the questgiving NPC's
shown on the wowhead maps multiple times after completing quests. Sometimes they dont automatically give you the next part, or completing a quest from another NPC will allow this NPC to give you a quest.
I hope this has helped if you are looking for a head start on your Loremaster Title!
Sorry for any typos and/or spelling errors.
EDIT:
dont waste cloth going after the ambassador title if you are after this title as well. I found that i got exalted with Stormwind, Ironforge and Darnassus and revered with Gnomeregan, while getting exalted with my own faction (Exodar).

Can anyone confirm that does this quest include some of the quests that require you to kill raid bosses or the quest chain for chamion of the naaru, or what about quests inside kara or even from the scourge invasion?
Update: Okay so far I think this quest only counts the general quests of the zones, not includeing group, or raid quests, instances, etc.
I've also found out that some quests might start in different locations, some of the terokkar forest quests start in shattath
(don't quote me on that, Im still testing it out)

Also while working towards this achievement, you'd be working towards not only your Ambassador title, but your albino drake for your 50 mounts as well. Since you require being exalted with your neighboring cities to get their mounts, doing the quests would be a more beneficial way of obtaining rep and working towards more than one goal at the same time in the game. Several achievements are designed to reward the painstaking manner in which some people completed WoW content over the years it has been live, so no need to grind for cloth for that rep for the mounts if you're going to work at this too. Good luck to anyone trying for this achievement, it looks like a painstaking one to complete.

Your accomplishments have been profound and far-reaching. Azeroth, with all of the recent turmoil, benefits greatly from those who seek to rid the land of evil.
Only those who take the time to know our lands understand the sacrifices of the fallen and the valor of our heroes. You are one such hero. Hopefully, you will recant the tales of your adventures for years to come.
On behalf of the Alliance, I thank you, Loremaster.

The total amount of quests you will need to complete for this achievement is 2843. That's 875 quests in Northrend, 568 quests in Outland, 700 in Eastern Kingdoms and 700 in Kalimdor.
Edit: Updated, the amount of quests in Kalimdor was reduced from 730 to 700.

I DID do ONE of the centaur chains in Desolace and dont forget BOTH of the escort quests there aswell
These might help:

Alliance -

Alliance - Be sure to check ALL of the Draenei starting zone. I thought i had completed all the quests there, went back to do a couple "This item begins a quest" and found a few more " ! " quests.
Ill try to post more links soon. Good luck to everyone trying to get this before the patch.

I'm a Scarab Lord, so I did the whole quest chain including the Scepter of the Shifting Sands.
But: Eventually I had like ~25 quests that I
haven't
done at Loremaster of Kalimdor; I had printed out a "easy to miss quest" list, thanks to the helpful users here.
The rest (Outland, Kingdom, Northrend) is also very easy. And Loremaster of Kalimdor is getting nerfed to 700 from 730, so there isn't any problem to get this achievement if you really want it.

News of your accomplishments has traveled far.
The winds of turmoil howl through our lands.
Those who stand to challenge evil are our only hope.
Only those who listen to the winds understand the debts our fallen heroes have paid to protect our people.
May a hero such as yourself live long to tell the tales of your adventures.
For only then will we remenber just how much we have to be thankful for.
Our appreciation runs deep. Loremaster.

For anyone that's wants to try this, I recommend the addon
EveryQuest
. This will give you a list of all quests in a zone and mark off what you've completed.
Of course, it won't know that you've completed any quests before installing it, but it still is very useful in a zone you never quested in before.

I've only read(and posted in) the Alliance version for LM of Kalimdor, but it is all very helpful in getting this achievement done, even though now it is extremely easy compared to post patch.
At the time of completing this, I had just under 3800 quests complete, so if you played Vanilla Wow and Kalimdor is your last place, I am sure you will have The Seeker title by then.

Pushed myself over the limit for Eastern Kingdoms by handing in cloth - even at exalted with whichever faction, the quests to donate still count as a quest. An easy 12 quests there for EK.
Hope that helps.

molliedollie
FYI- the initial cloth turnins do count towards this achievement. The first runecloth turnin will count, but the subsequent turnins do not.
Having said that however, I would consider saving those quests for the end, those last 20 or so quests for each continent can be kind of tricky to track down.

After 3.0.8 many (if not: all) instance-quests that previously did not give credit, now give credit. I didn't come across any instance-quests that didn't count towards Loremaster (EK of Kalimdor) since patch 3.0.8. Tested with quests for a lot of instances. Makes our lives a lot easier.

There are some chains you need to do
1) the missing diplomat.
2)Tablets quest from Tanaris
3)Uldaman Disks quest
Even with all the class and aq chains I did. I had some trouble getting to 700 quests in Kalimdor. I recommend do not skip any quests here.

In theory, you are correct. However, this is a misleading figure.
Many
quests which do not count towards the LM achievements
do
count towards the Seeker. I.E. A bunch of the dungeon quests (even post their inclusion to the LM list; most specifically Gnomer and the like), seasonal quests, class specific quests... The list goes on.
Seeker is a big deal, there is no question. Loremaster, however, is a much bigger deal. The margin is considerably smaller then you are presenting.
I am in no way saying Loremaster is impossible or even going to be that horrifying in actual difficulty to achieve; it will merely take insanity, patience, and persistence displayed by a very small minority of WoW players... Think Wintersaber. Not crazy hard, just maddeningly dull.
As a second topic in this post, I have recently started a Warlock to level up. The goal is going to see how difficult it really is to get these achievements post 3.0.8 starting from scratch.
In Light of This
For those people like me who are crazy enough to start a toon from scratch and try for Loremaster and Seeker there is a mod which you
cannot
live without. Google "Everyquest" I know they have it on curse. It lists every quest (lol) in each zone and tracks what you have or have not completed. ALL the drop quests, all the hard to find ones, everything. The only reason I say "if you're starting from scratch" is because it is not retroactively intelligent.
My two cents as of right now.

I just got this achievement myself, and it was quite an adventure. Although, unlike most of the players, I had some problems with the Eastern Kingdoms, not Kalimdor part. Being Alliance, of course. I've played on the same toon since the day 1 of the European release, and I've done a lot of quests during this time. In Vanilla I started doing "old quests" at 60, and thus many of the starting area ones were empty for me. Those struggling with the Eastern Kingdoms, check the Badlands and Blasted Lands. They have about 30-40 quests there in total. Those two areas were my bane of Loremaster for a couple of days.
In Kalimdor, it is imperative to do the Missing Diplomat questline, Desolace quests and Silithus quests. Latter ones are boring like hell and require a lot of tenacity to complete, even though you are level 80. I wish luck and patience to all the future Loremasters. For we are few and a far in between.

So, I just got Loremaster. I've been a questaholic for quite some time, and while I wouldn't say that I'm done with all quests, I don't think there're too many more that could count toward this achievement, as most of them are raid quests.
http://www.wowarmory.com/character-statistics.xml?r=Terenas&cn=Bamf&gn=Basugasubakuhatsu
I'm currently sitting at
4313 Quests completed
613 Daily quests completed
So, I think that means I've done 3700 quests. That puts quite the margin in, about 1000, but if you've done 1000 extra quests in Classic WoW, you still have to do 140 of the ~150 quests in Icecrown (I've found that there's about 10 extra in each Wrath zone (I couldn't tell you about the other zones, because I had them upon the release of 3.0, but I think a few of them in Outlands are very very close )

I just accomplished this on my Death Knight earlier today. This is a fantastic achievement to strive for, as it has kept the game interesting far after I ran out of other standard max. level activities. Completing this achievement will also likely: earn you several thousand gold, the Ambassador achievement, the Seeker achievement, unlock other factions and reputation rewards (mounts, crafting plans, etc.), and most importantly, let you experience the bulk of the game that you might have missed in your previous adventures. The title isn't the most impressive sounding (even though the feat itself is) and the tabard is quite ugly, but the personal reward is certainly worth the effort!

A great add-on for this achievement is
Carbonite
. Basically what it does is gives you a checklist of every quest you can start in a zone. When you do a quest it marks it off the list. It lists all hard to find escorts, rare drops, and out of place quest givers. The only downside is after you download it, you have to mark off the quests your have already completed because it can't track quests before it is installed. Still a great way to go through a zone and see if you missed any quests.

I DID IT! I rolled a rogue when WOTLK came out and I level thru each zone sequentially. I did not leave Old World for Outland until I was lvl 68! and then I was lvl 76.9 when I finally went to northrend! Questing was incredibly enjoyable this way and I had lots of fun! made over 19,000 gold while working towards Loremaster! NOT INCLUDING AUCTIONS! This is a very profitable non-daily-quest way to play the game!
Id have to say the hardest part of the whole ordeal was getting help for group quests. I did every zone except Icecrown before I transferred off Twisting Nether (RP-PvP) to Turalyon (PvE). People were always looking to help me in Icecrown.
I achieved Breadwinner, Seeker, Ambassador and several other minor achievements on the way to this one. You are missing out on the game if you haven't gotten loremaster!

Even with achievements such as Glory of the Ulduar Raider, What a Long, Strange Trip It's Been, and the like, I find this achievement to be one of the most rewarding and prestigious achievements in the game. No, you don't get phat lewts or epic mounts, and you don't get a ton of guild drama over where that loot/mount goes, but you get a lot more, if you read everything. You learn a LOT of lore about many parts of the game. You will have, most likely, participated in a VERY large amount of actual noticeable events in the game, such as helping save King Wrynn from the Defias, defeating Onyxia (even if we aren't mentioned), watching Bolvar's tragic "demise" at the Wrathgate, and, if you're a Death Knight, participated in the very event that broke you free from the Scourge so you could be a character in the game. And think about it... You'll have made a -ton- of money from the quest rewards. I actually paid for 95% of my epic flying mount with just Icecrown, Stormpeaks and the rest of the Azeroth quest achievements. Not to mention, your guild will probably be fairly impressed, because even in 3.2, I have not seen a large amount of Loremasters on my server.
This achievement, as stated before, will take some dedication to accomplish, as there are a fair few "hidden" quests that aren't as commonplace. Some examples are items that start a quest, which are dropped from only a scant few monsters in a less-traveled zone or just have a really low drop rate (Captain Sanders' quest line FTL). Others are just sneaky quest givers that you wouldn't notice any other time (most of the Alliance quests in Badlands, for example, as there are no camp markers).
Overall, you just need to look around every zone, see what you may have missed, or look up items on Wowhead here, and see what you may have missed. Even then, you may not know if you ever did something or not... For example, Captain Sanders' drop. Take your time, try to obtain it; if you don't see it after 30 minutes of the outright massacre of Murlocs (although, to you it'll be mere seconds, as killing demon-fish makes the time go by), ignore it for now and come back later, if you're even more hard-pressed for quests.
If you skipped the first comments before this, I'll give you a couple tips from them:
Be patient. Some quests take a ton of luck. It's frustrating, but annoyingly random spawns are annoyingly random.
For Outland and Northrend, just about every quest is tied into a major hub, and you'll usually go through every hub via breadcrumb quests. The breadcrumb quests themselves also help.
Don't try to do this in a day. Please. Ties in with be patient, but go at a leisurely pace.
Search Wowhead if you're not certain on something. This will be even more helpful come patch 3.3, as a previous poster stated above, you will be able to query for completed quests. If something seems out of place, or a guildie lets you know of a good quest that you may not have done, you can look for it here to find the stuff you need.
It's a game, don't get frustrated. Just move on if you can't get something done.
And finally, Azeroth is not Outland/Northrend. There are less breadcrumbs and more scattered quests and objectives. Definitely start with the easier ones first if you want to get the hang of it.
To everyone who has accomplished this task, congratulations. I still consider it a worthwhile and prestigious achievement, and wear your title proud. To those who are looking to do it, remember to take it one at a time. Definitely start with Northrend and Outland if you're already level 80, as you'll get good quest-hunting strategies from there, and I hope to see people with this achievement soon!
Edit: I should rephrase what I said at the top. All those achievements I listed are quite grand in their own right, and I finally completed Long, Strange Trip after missing G.N.E.R.D. Rage last year, and am enjoying my Violet Proto-Drake. All those achievements take their own level of dedication, although perhaps to different things (Raiding achievements being purely raid-based, LST being general, Loremaster being quest-centric), and should be honoured as well.

Simply a few words of encouragement from someone who just completed this achievement (as well as the Seeker).
Don't stress.
I spent more time stressing over whether or not there would be enough easily available quests that I often didn't enjoy the ride. However, there always seemed to be more quests and with a small amount of digging I was always able to find something new without encountering any major stumbling blocks to my efforts.
General points:
Move from zone to zone geographically, checking Wowhead and Wowwiki for quest givers and hubs in the current zone. When those quest lines are exhausted, search for the quest item drops and complete those quest lines. Do all available class quests. Suck it up and do your T0.5 armor quest line, it's significant. Be prepared to spend a lot of time soloing level 70 and under instances to complete quests. For some stuff you
will
have to ask friends for a few favours. Do every dungeon, and raid attunement chain. Don't drop a quest unless your log is full and you intend to pick it up later, and if you get an item that starts a quest open and complete it immediately.
There are
more
than enough quests available for both of these major achievements simply doing all of the quest hubs, the dungeon quests, and seeking out the zone quest starting drops. I spent two weeks in Blackrock Mountain instances and did the T0.5 chain, some things cost me a lot of $$$. I didn't have to do the AQ chain or anything crazy like that, it was 98% soloable at 80 or naturally done while levelling him to 70 and to 80 last year.
I have currently completed 4833 quests and 1689 daily quests (not sure if the stat tracker includes repeatable quests whereas achievements do not), so the number of quests you turn in that do not count towards both achievements is quite high.
It's a long, hard slog, but on the bright side you'll get innumerable other achievements while doing Loremaster and earn a
lot
of gold, even with the amount of money you have to put back into some quest lines for rare mats, etc. You'll have to do things like pay 100g to a pre-BC blacksmith to make you some obscure item that can only be forged in Molten core, etc.

So you've decided to try and get Loremaster?
Addons you'll want to help you along the way:
1st
is
EveryQuest
. A helpful tool that utilizes the recent quest database functionality introduced to the game, allowing you to see which quests you have no completed in every zone/ dungeon / raid. It can also filter out various quests you might not want to start ie; raid specific quests / cooking / class etc.
The 2nd
is
Lightheaded
which has the ability to show you valuable WoWhead comments and info when you access your quest log. It can also show you where quest givers are in the form of coordinates. Very very helpful.
The 3rd
is
TomTom
waypoint arrow. This will integrate with your EveryQuest & Lightheaded and allow you to see where you need to be on the map, mini map and on screen HUD. Its a small movable arrow that points the way to objectives and/or quest givers and any other location you wish to ask it to point to.
For instance, if you're currently looking for a druid in Moonglade named Rukthaan (fictional as I can't think of any of their names right now) you would only need to type the NPCs name into Lighthead's search engine. Find the right NPC and then click on the provided coords inside Lighthead interface, that will automatically engage TomTom's way point arrow to help you locate the NPC.
But that was a hypothetical and
EveryQuest
should tell you exactly what quests you need to complete in order to finish each zone as you go on. It will also have the functionality to help you see which quest givers have what, and allow
TomTom
to tell you where to go to find them. But.. incase you want to trek to a specific NPC and want info on the (what could be) thousands of quests you have remaining you'll want
Lightheaded
as well.

3 months after starting in earnest, today, the achievement is mine. Was it worth it? I dunno...kinda cool to have a title that few others have, especially is contrast to all the Celestial Mounts that everyone went out and dropped $25 bucks on, but I really wish the tabard was better looking.
Soloed the whole thing, mostly at 80. A few tips that I found along the way:
Kalimdor - There are 2 neutral quests available in from a goblin just outside of Orgimmar. These were numbers 699 and 700 for me. So if you're stuck, don't forget these. I think you have to have done the Wrathgate in Northrend to have access to them.
Eastern Kingdoms: I think the real way that i kinda screwed myself was trying to do one continent at a time rather than going where the chains take you. There were a few chains that start in EK, but that have components that do count towards Kalimdor as well. (And I'm sure the opposite is also true, though I didn't really check as I was doing Kalimdor.) Overall, I found EK easier than Kalimdor.
Old World in general: be prepared for a LOT of travel...some of these old chains will take you to the ass-end of the world to pick up some useless widget.
Outlands: Easy stuff, EXCEPT for Blade's Edge Mountains. There are a total of 90 quests available to Alliance in BEM, and you need 86 for the achievement. BUT...there are 2 quests leading into Toshley's Station that you can't pick up if you have done any other quests in TS. (I think that chain starts at the robot to the west of TS.) If you can't do those 2, then get ready to farm like mad for Etherium Prison Keys for the Consortium quests out of Netherstorm.
Northrend: As someone else noted, the only hard part here is Icecrown because if the weird phasing on some of the later group quests. I found that I could solo most of the early group quests geared for ToC, though.
EveryQuest and Questhelper are your friends. (EveryQuest can be a bit frustrating though..it lists some quests that are no longer available, and sometimes doesn't pick up on quests that you've done long ago.)
Good luck to any who try.

Curiously, does anyone have an approximation of how much gold you could earn by completing this title at level 80?

Alliance has to do 700 in Kalimdor, and 700 in Eastern Kingdoms, whereas Horde only has 685 in Kalimdor and 550 in Eastern Kingdoms...
What the hell, i don't care if they have a harder time finding their quests, it's not hard to download an addon...That's hours more
questing
grinding that we have to go through... :(

An easy way to keep track of what quests you have completed is the EveryQuest addon. It querys blizzards server and then it shows which quests you have and haven't done in a certain zone. I'm using it now to finish the kalimdor achievement and it makes it so much easier.

Just finished this two boxing. While mostly a pain in the ass, I did it to say that I've done all the old world, especially considering how it's going to change in Cataclysm.
Did I have fun doing it? Not really, but every quest I did brought back a lot of memories, and was well worth it. Nice trip down memory lane for my two horde mains (I did most of pre-BC on alliance toons, this was a trip in the way-back machine).

NE Hunter here, and just finished Kalimdor today for mine. Let me tell you, the other folks that said Kalimdor was a pain in the neck? They weren't kidding! The last 30 quests I had, split between Tanaris and Shimmering Flats, took me to the other continent more than I'd have liked. So, it was time consuming. But, doable. Most of the quests I had to do were in zones I'd skipped leveling because I learned to hate them from other characters I'd played.
Glad it's over, though, and the title is pretty neat. I think I've only seen one other one during my playtime (doesn't mean there aren't more, just that I've personally only seen one other one). Being the storyline mush I am, I really liked the letter from Tyrande when she sent me my tabard. ;)
BTW, I didn't know about Everyquest before I started, but I used the Wowhead looter and the quests tab on my character page here. Couldn't have done it without Wowhead!

If you're having trouble finding quests and you're getting close to one of your sections (I had a heck of a time with Kalimdor) I suggest getting the addons Every Quest and Loremaster. The later works with EQ and shows you what quest count or not (or probably count) towards the achievement. It's been a lifesaver for me, and I don't waste time on quests that don't count anymore.

Wonder if someone managed to do it on 2 of his characters, as I did.
Did it on my main char a year and half before I started doing it on my warlock alt/Champion of the Frozen Wastes didn't quite well fit for it/, was very easy knowing how much troubles had on the main.

My rogue and mage are getting put on hold in their arena. I'm getting back on my priest main to finish this! I got northrend and outlands already done... now just for the hellish part. These addons are what have reinspired me because I did it before by brute force questing... Some of you know what I mean.
EDIT: Its now patch 4.0.1, October 18th. I completed Eastern Kingdom last week and have 380 more quests to finish Kalimdor. Everyquest is bugged however it still successfully will query the server which is the most important part. The lightheaded integration only works once the quest is picked up. I'm hoping to finish these quests before the cataclysm, and I also hope they remove the title as an achievement from the game at the same time.

I want to put this at the top because it might just be the single most important thing to know before setting out to gain this prestigious title:
Plan your trip to
Blade's Edge
before you ever go there!
As has been noted many times in many places, the margin of error for quests in Blade's Edge may be smaller than any other zone. You do not want to get there, start questing, and end up short 1-2 quests - and if you'll do your research, you'll see that this is a very real possibility. Of all the zones, and all the quests, imagine your grief at knowing you are, and will always be, short that last quest! It can happen, don't kid yourself. It isn't hard to avoid this, however, if you pay attention to what you're doing.
Be sure to pick up whatever breadcrumb-quests to and from Blade's Edge you can. Do not just go there and start taking quests, you might miss a "go speak to X" quest that counts for Loremaster, or
quests
that begin in other zones but
lead you
to Blade's Edge. For example, be sure to talk to V'eru in Shattrath to pick up
this quest
- it will open up a chain, most of which will count for Loremaster (just finished these today, I can confirm that they do), and will also open up several
Ogri'la
quests. Remember that in Blade's Edge,
every little quest counts
.
Also (and there has been a lot of discussion about this, just read up on it), make certain that you don't go to
Toshley's Station
until you are led there by
this quest
, which you'll get at the end of a quest chain. A lot of people seem to miss this quest, and it leaves them short if they skip others.
If all else fails, there are
some quests
that open up in Blade's Edge once you have the rep with
the Consortium
. Of course, you'll have to grind for this - and it isn't necessary to finish Blade's Edge (I finished it, and never did any rep grind for them). But if you are stuck, you can go that route. Careful planning, and making certain you follow the quest chains without just jumping in, will allow you to avoid this.
Enjoy your questing!

Just accomplished this last night through the cunning use of QuestHelper and the Wowhead Client. Whenever I had problems finding quests I'd just update Wowhead and check which ones I hadn't done yet, this came in super handy for finding where to grind for those quests that get dropped by mobs.
Lots of money to be made, especially in the AH. For example, I used the gold I made to get the Ring of the Kirin Tor achieve and all the upgrades. (Yes, I love achievements.) Still have 3k+ left over and would have more if I hadn't finished Northrend long before I even thought of doing Loremaster.
I also wanted to point out that if you are hated by the Goblins completing the old world Loremaster will be significantly more difficult for you. It's still possible, but it makes your task even more of a pain in the patootie.

My advice, use the addons Every Quest and Loremaster...they work brilliantly in conjunction with each other and you can be sure you're doing quests that count and also know what quests you haven't done in an area yet.
Also, EK IS entirely possible without doing a single quest in the Black Rock Mountain area for those who are worried about those instances. ^^

::EDIT::
So far Cataclysm seems to have broken Loremaster and EveryQuest. It's now 01/01/2011 with no updates for either.
::EDIT::
To anyone serious about completing this achievement, and you don't know where to start, this is the post you want to read.
Randomly running around looking for quest givers is not going to work, you'll want some help and there are five essential addons that will give it to you.
1)
EveryQuest
(EQ) - Just like it says, it's a data base for every quest, parsed right here from Wowhead. It interfaces with the in game quest log and queries the server to find out what quests you've done (you need to manually tell it to do so), giving you a list of quests you haven't done. You can filter by zone, faction, and other options as well.
2)
EveryQuest QuestGivers
(EQ-QG) - Ties into EQ, and puts ! on your map for locations of quest givers that still have quests for you. There are filters for these, as well as a handy setting that gives you a tooltip so you can see the names of what quests you haven't done from each !. This allows for quick searches in case those quest givers are in the middle of a quest chain you haven't started.
3)
HandyNotes
- Required for EQ-QG to mark your map with !'s.
4)
Loremaster
(LM) - This one modifies the Quest Description. It puts a line at the bottom of the description and above the rewards telling you whether or not the quest applies towards the Loremaster Achievement. It also integrates into EQ adding a after every quest in EQ's list that applies to Loremaster. It doesn't know all quests in game, but it DOES track what quests it hasn't seen and whether or not they count. The creator has a
site
where you can upload your loremaster.lua savedvariables. Every upload is parsed immediately and creates a new data file which can be downloaded and put into the Loremaster directory so you can always have the most up to date list. The more people that upload after doing a quest LM didn't know, the more complete LM becomes. For quests LM doesn't know (which is very few), you get...
5)
LightHeaded
- This addon adds a sliding window to the right side of your quest log. When a quest is selected you can use this new window to view Wowhead comments about that quest. This is useful in helping you find tricky locations, and when LM doesn't know if a quest counts or not, Wowhead comments almost always do. Plus, in said window, you can type in a search for a quest by name and pull up it's comments so you don't have to ALT+TAB out of WoW every few minutes. Lightheaded will also list the entire chain of chain quests when you select/search ANY quest in that chain, in similar fashion to Wowhead... the perfect tie in to EQ-QG's tooltips.
Other addons you'll want to look into, and probably already have, are good questfinder/map/waypoint/co-ords addons. I personally use
Carbonite
which does them all in one go and works with all the addons I listed above, plus has many other features. Carbonite also has Quest/Qgiver lists/locations in it and can query the server, however I prefer EQ's interface and LM doesn't tie into Carbonite.
I hope this helps you all out, it certainly did me. Happy Questing!

is one of the most profound signs of Blizzard's hate towards their customers.
Imagine - you're on a PvP server. You're way below 80. No new raid content is being released.

As of today I only have the rest of Howling Fjord and Icecrown to do, so I'm pretty much done. I have to say, as useful as those recommended addons may be, I did not use a single one of them and still got it done. Do not be discouraged if you don't like addons or they don't work for you. This is by no means impossible without them, wowhead is the most important tool that you need available by a long shot. Everything else is just being able to actually stay focused and go through with it.

Just throwing this out there for anyone who isn't aware, WoWhead Looter is possibly the greatest creation ever made to aid this achievement. It made my grind (after I faction changed and had my quest count reset) much more painless.

For about 9 months I had 30-odd quests that I figured I had no hope of completing before Cataclysm. Even with all the addons mentioned above it was next to impossible to have a solid list of incomplete quests (the aforementioned addons lack a decent filter specific to your toon).
Enter the solution, and wouldn't you know it it comes from Wowhead! The Wowhead Client helped me find exactly which quests I hadn't completed and where, and within the day I was rockin' the Loremaster achievement!
https://www.wowhead.com/cata/client
It takes a few game restarts to sync your toon to the client, but the setup really isn't that hard
How ironic that the site I used for so long to find scraps of info had a complete package all along!

As is normal, I started this Achievement long after reaching 80.
While Northrend and Outlands are pretty easy, I ran into a lot of issues with the Old World Achievements.
I did two things:
Get a quest log add-on. I used EveryQuest which queries the server for your quest info then shows you, by zone, quests you are missing as well as filtering out things like other faction quests that you can't do.
Second, go to a starting zone NOT for your race. Ideally, do them all as they open more quests in each secondary zone (Goldshire, Kharanos and the like). It will also go faster with lower level quests AND get you on the right path to opening continuing quest lines by sending you to the next appropriate zone.
I had thought to work backwards but after doing WPL and EPL I realized I was "swimming up stream". I am now burning through quests like a banshee.

To anyone currently trying for this tittle, Good Luck! I have unfortunately screwed myself over and am not able to get this achievement. My tip, if your an 80 doing this, and saved outland for last as I did, do NOT do Nagrand last. There are a few quests there that if you have to much rep you can't get the quests and if you've already did certain quests in other zones you can't pick a few of them up once you get to Garadar. Also Nagrand has a small margin of error. I used the Wowhead Completeion tracker and it was a GREAT help while on this excursion. But yes, in Nagrand there are at least 7 quests there that you may not be able to get.

It seems that with the 4.0.3a patch you can no longer get this achievement until Cataclysm releases (unless you already have it). Loremaster of Cataclysm was added to the meta-achievement.

Note that the Loremaster achievements don't require any quests completed from the level 1-12 starting zones. That means there are no quest achievements associated with Teldrassil, Azuremyst Isle, Gilneas, Dun Morogh, or Elwynn Forest.

Now that the patch in prep for cataclysm has arrived, loremaster had changed considerably; there are now region specific achievements such as "silverpine forest quests" do all of these for the continent/expansion content. These changes streamline the process (along with new race specific quest chains, such as taking Gilneas for the Forsaken) Loremaster is, dare i say, quite easy

*Edit* You no longer have to use the addon in-game to sync your character, the official armory will tell Wowhead all about your quests -you only need to logout so the armory updates there and then. Also wrote a proper guide about this,
here
. ;)
The easiest way to do all the zone quests is by using the
Wowhead Client
to profile your character.
If you get stuck in a zone, follow my quick guide to resolve the issue:
The first step is to type
/wl collect
then followed by
/console reload
If errors like "Type '/help' for..."; make sure that the client has installed the Wowhead addon and that it is
enabled
for the character!
To fix this simply exit the game, quit the Wowhead client if it's running (look in the system tray too) and start it again, then make sure the addon is enabled under "Addons" button at the character selection screen. Fixing other issues regarding the client, please look at the
FAQ
.
Minimize the game and open the Wowhead Client dialog, there should be a profile under "Account-Specific Data" that is pending to be uploaded, so naturally you now click the "Upload" button.
If there is nothing to upload simply exit and start the Wowhead Client again (not the game itself).
Now that the profile is uploaded, head over to
your characters
and pick the character you are stuck with.
Click "Quests" tab and navigate to the specific zone you are stuck at, since you are stuck I am sure you know how many quests you need and you do not need to have 100% of a zone just because Wowhead does not list it as 100%, these quests are all possible quests available in that zone, not all should be completable as some requires specific class or profession.
On the specific zone page you can filter and show only quests you have not completed, this way you can open them and look at the map where you obtain them, if they are chains, where the first quest in the row starts, read comments and tips, and much more!
If you have problems, either the command not working (
/wl
), Wowhead Client not showing any profiles to upload, or anything else -I'll try help fix some of these issues with this checklist:
Make sure that the Wowhead Client (under Tools/Options) is set properly, i.e. that the WoW Folders point where they should. If you set it right, save and restart the client so it installs the addon properly. If the game is running you will have to restart it too, so the addon is loaded.
Make sure that you have looked up your character using the
Profiler
, at least once. This way when you upload the profile, the website knows who it belongs to.
If anything else put a comment as reply to this one and I'll update my guide with more information -if it's relevant, as some problems may be caused on your side or related directly to the Wowhead site or client.
I hope that those stuck in a zone look up this achievement for this information, as I only posted it in the loremaster pages. Good luck to you all, you at least won't be stuck like I was some days ago, knowing this information! :)

I have already gotten this achievement on one of my characters, but as I started playing once I got Cataclysm, I started noticing more and more how they've redone it so that even the low level requirements are certain numbers per zone, and it finally made me curious enough to start it again, on a brand new character. I can remember the frustration of the first attempt, so I'm interested to see whether they've made it feel much easier, or if it remains just as frustrating and fascinating to do a second time, with all the new content.

There is an addon which is recent called Loremaster author is Deepac. It can be found on Curse. When used with TomTom it is great to assist in finding the missing quests in order to complete this achievement. With the addons, it generates a list of quests for that area and helps you go to each questgiver or place. that was what I liked - the list that is generated with the NPC names. The quests that you have completed in the area towards the achievement are greyed. One last note, problems is Darkshore? Check the silly Buzzboxes - that is where I was having the problem. They start a whole questline. Oiy...
Tonight, I finish Loremaster and my guild thinks I'm nuts but then again, I think "Insane in the Membrane" is just that - insane! To each his or her own. But, these are helpful addons if you are going to take on this endeavour.
Best of Luck with Loremaster! Happy hunting!

The title says 'Loremaster', not 'Add-on master'. The very purpose of this achievement (together with the Seeker) is to award those who enjoy the
process of questing without help
. Roughly 95% of the quests are so extremely simple to find and complete that using help of an add-on to do that seems absurd to me. My character did complete it (before Cata) and although I had a few bugs with quest counter there was no problem whatsoever finding more quests. You know, only takes a little bit of
seeking skills
and
love for questing
.

If you are trying to do this achievement w/o the curse add on every quest you are shooting yourself in the foot. It shows the location of all quest givers in game on your map and mini map as well as the status of the quests,( completed, in progress, or not picked up)
download EVERYQUEST, go to the ui options for addons and query the server to update the addon to show your quest history so the completed quests show on your map.
makes doing this achievement so much easier. You can see on your map which quests you need for the region quesst chieves and if they arent available yet you can alt tab to Wowhead to see what you need to do to open them up.

While finally getting round to Loremaster after six years, I noticed that in Outland especially your reputation gains with Aldor, Scryer and Consortium as well as a number of other minor factions can drastically impact which quests are available to you. As Alliance I blockaded a number of quests due to my reputation being too high with a relevant faction - for example the Quest
Securing the Celestial Ridge
in Netherstorm requires you to kill a dragon that, as revered with Netherwing, was friendly to me!
There seems to always be a way around/alternate paths to complete the achievements, but thought it worth a mention.

Just a note to people thinking of faction changing. I switched from the Horde to the Alliance. I had Loremaster completed and it's still shown as completed even after the change. It does screw around a little bit with some quests and areas. You'll have to re-do some quests in Twilight Highlands and Vashj'ir to fix the portals, it's not much so it isn't much of a big deal.
I think I'll have to re-do a bunch of quests in Icecrown to re-obtain the whole Ebon Blade area, since it seemed to have reset on me. I'm not sure of what else has broken since I switched factions. As I said, it isn't a huge deal, it's just a little bit frustrating trying to fix everything.

I'm on this achievement right now and have done both eastern kingdoms and kalimdor. I am now in Outlands, a.k.a hell since the quests there are so extremely boring, and so many.
The Loremaster is quite messy since there are so many places and it's hard to know where to begin. I simply started from top and worked my way down from Eastern. Then I choose one area to begin with (either the area in the south or in the north. You might want to start with the area with the lowest level. I did the mistake to start in Tanaris in Kalimdor, which meant that I often had to come back to places where i was done to get a quest in the next area.
I'm doing all of this at a lvl 85 Hunter and I one-shot NPC:s at lvl 60-70. This makes the quests go really fast. This also means that I've got a flying mount at the highest speed which makes the questing a lot more easy.
The only problem is the collecting quests. However, this is easily done by taking off all your gear.
And the most important thing might be that before an expansion, check areas where you have done quests. Have you done a lot of the quests, it might be a good idea to make the rest of them BEFORE the new expansion. After cataclysm, Kalimdor and Eastern had a lot of changes in the quests, and if you hadn't got the achievement for the area, all quests were reset and you'd have to start over. That wasn't fun at all and took me twice as much time.

My other suggestion was to always start with the low level zones of a race. For example, if you want to get the southern areas of the Eastern Kingdom finished, run to Westfall and start the quests there. When that's done then the guide will automatically send you to Redridge and then to Duskwood, etc... Doing the quests in order of a races natural progression will help quite a bit by letting you get the prerequisite quests without having to back-track to zones that you either have already done or were planning on saving for later.

(I am a horde player and wrote this for the Horde achievement, but it's almost entirely applicable, and I've used the Alliance quest totals here, but little variances exist strategy-wise.)
I thought I'd add a Cataclysm post with the new numbers required for this achievement. I'm in progress on it and Seeker right now. This is for Alliance (I shouldn't have to point that out but just in case someone's on the wrong page.)
Kalimdor: 753 Quests
Eastern Kingdoms: 648 Quests
Outland: 562 Quests
Northrend: 875 Quests
Cataclysm: 580 Quests
Total: 3,418 Quests
So now you get your
完成3000个任务
title of <The Seeker> before getting Loremaster. If you're a bored 85 trying to rack up achievement points, you get a total of 660 Achievement Points for the "(Zone) Quests", "Loremaster of (Continent)", "(N) Quests Completed", and "Loremaster" achievements. Any other incidentals that you pick up along the way are just gravy, and you're pretty much guaranteed to pick some others up. I also advise going for the
世界探索者
achievement and title at the same time, which gives an additional 885 points. You do have to do some zones for Explorer that you don't have to touch for Loremaster, namely the racial starting zones and zones with no Alliance quests at all, like Northern Barrens. You'll usually have all but one or two subzones explored by the time you get the zone quests achievement done anyway.
I recommend having a plan going in, if you want to get the achievement done in a "reasonable" amount of time. This has worked well for me, but you'll know your preferences and there's no "right answer" here. I started with Kalimdor, generally agreed to be the longest slog of the bunch. I started up at the top of the continent and worked my way south. Every time I started a new zone, I would track the zone quests achievement and the Explore achievement. I also track the 3000 quests completed achievement just so I have an idea of where I'm at. So for Ashenvale, for example, I track
探索灰谷
and
灰谷任务
. I have Low Level Quests visible in the minimap, and use one addon each for finding quests and finishing exploration, linked further below. Once finished with Kalimdor, the order I followed was Outland, Northrend, Cataclysm, then back to Eastern Kingdoms for the home stretch. This way the quests get more difficult but more compacted until you're back in the Eastern Kingdoms blowing away level 12s again.
One thing I've noticed is that for Outland, Northrend, and the Cataclysm zones, you really are better off following the order you would typically follow leveling. This way you get pre-requisite quests done and don't end up 3 quests short in 3 different zones and then find out there's a 9-quest chain that takes you through all three. You can find the expected order by opening your achievements tab, going to Quests and picking the continent you're working on, and the order the unfinished achieves are presented in is the expected order for leveling.
I use two addons for this. One is
QuestHubber
, which shows the location of all incomplete quests on the full map. I haven't started the Cataclysm zones yet and it warns the data may not be quite as accurate, but for Kalimdor, Outland and Northrend it's been great. It's worth mentioning that it also tries to use the /qh shortcut that QuestHelper uses, I've disabled QuestHelper and just let Blizzard's stock quest tracker handle things, which it really does admirably compared to in the past. Sorting by priority helps a lot. When I first get into a zone, I'll fly to the densest concentration of quests, accept all of them, then go to the next densest (there are almost always at least two quest hubs), and so on. Once I've gotten 10 or 15 to work on I'll knock them out in order of proximity, and when it's time to fly to the other side of the zone, I turn in the quests I've completed and get the next batch before heading there.
The other Addon is
WorldExplorer
, which is to help find the last subzone or two needed to get the Exploration achieve in the zone you're working in. It's pretty self explanatory, any subzone you haven't been to yet is outlined in the full map. It stacks with QuestHubber with no issues.
Older posts will reference EveryQuest and Loremaster. EveryQuest is no longer supported by it's authors, and Loremaster hasn't been needed yet, though it appears it does everything QuestHubber does, and then some. However, I don't really need the additional info as far as the rep given or choice of rewards, so I like QuestHubber for being minimally intrusive.
Finally, some general tips:
1.)
Go easy on yourself.
Find the little things you enjoy to help pass the time spent (and you will be spending a lot of time chasing this achievement). I really only work on this on my weekends, so I make myself some coffee, turn on some internet radio, check my auctions and make sure I don't have any pressing dailies to do before getting started. Make yourself comfortable, enjoy yourself (it's a game!).
2.)
Watch for drop quests.
One thing you'll find as you progress through this meta-achievement is that different zones seem to have different amounts of leeway in how many quests you can miss and still get the achievement. Southern Barrens I still had at least 7 or 8 quests left, but Dustwallow Marsh (if I remember right) required you to complete every last available quest in the zone, and then fly to Thunder Bluff to finish the last one. One of those was a quest that started from an item dropped by a mob on death. Blizzard's quest UI seems to now indicate when monsters will drop an item that starts a quest, unless QuestHubber is doing that for me. Pay attention to the tooltip.
3.)
Enjoy the lore.
I've learned a lot about the game and the Warcraft universe that I'd never known prior to starting on this, and found some new favorite zones for lore. If you're not reading, hitting accept, and flying out to go kill ten rats, you're entirely missing the point of the achievement. There are far easier ways to get achievement points and titles than this, so do it because you want to learn more about the story and the universe, and you'll enjoy the game more.
4.)
Learn which quests count.
I'm not going the full route of recommending you look on Wowhead for every quest, but the general rules are as follows.
If a quest starts in one zone and ends in another, it will count as a completion in the zone it started from.
Quests that start in a zone and end in a dungeon generally count as a dungeon quest. You can tell the difference by looking in the quest log and noting what zone the quest is listed under.
The first time you do a daily quest will count. Any completions after that will only count for "X Daily Quests Completed" achievements.
There are occasional quests that logically should count but don't. Them's the breaks. There aren't very many though.
That's all I can think of for now. Just pace yourself, don't expect to get this in a week or two. Enjoy your new Loremaster title when it's all over, because now it's officially more difficult to get than Seeker.

I you put your mind into this achievement, you should start with it while leveling. This way you will be on half a way when you hit the cap. Just stay in one zone until you earn the achievement for that zone.
Its a lot easier than doing it when you hit cap. You wont need to search what quest you finished and what didn't. After, you just go for zones you didn't get achievement for..

What's bumming me out now is that I slaved away at this achievement, and now that transmog is in there is a lot of cool gear - or pieces that are designed to match dungeon drops - that you can only obtain through questing. Obviously I got rid of all of this stuff, as I'd have filled at least an entire guild bank with quest rewards if I'd kept it all ;-)
Now I want to re-do some quests to get those rewards back :-(
Ah, well. At least I have an ugly, ugly tabard but well-earned title to show for it!

While I was getting this achievement, I found myself constantly hitting dead ends, and flying around looking for those last few quests. The two things I found to be the usual solutions are:
Going to nearby zones, completing quests there, and finding "Travel-To" quests.
Staying near the quest return, as they sometimes chat, or commence an action before offering another quest.
And most importantly,
read the quest text
! It'll help you a lot in the long run. Besides, if you're going to become a Loremaster, you should at least know some lore. Happy hunting!

A quick warning to those about to set off for this achievement -
DO NOT join the ranks of the Bloodsail Buccanneers beforehand
. The Steemwheedle Goblin quests are essential to this achievement, and cannot be done when unfriendly or worse. I made this mistake, and had to go through the pirate killing grind to get my rep back. Don't make the same error I did! Be a pirate after!

This achievement is very time consuming, and as of this post I still havent completed it. I am on my final goal of

and trucking right along.
My tip to you all is to set aside a little time to simply knock out entire zones, if not multiple zones, at a time. Early in your journey for loremaster you will have a lot more drive to finish zones and hundreds of quests in one day, take advantage of this. Doing one zone a day results in a month of questing for this achievement, but if you are like me and knock out half of the zones on one continent in one day it takes you considerably less time, and more time for you to take a day or two off to recharge (or return to work and stop pretending to be sick).

This is a joke honestly, I don't know how everybody doesn't have it already. It took me to 85 with only Twilight Highlands remaining, earning 10,000g along the way. Nothing about this part of the chain is challenging.

Although I havent completed this chain yet, I have on my old alt back in the days of Wrath. This was when Blizzard finally discovered how to properly chain quests together for seemless questing. All problems you have getting this can be easily solved by checking wowhead for answers. This continent is also good for gold, I have made about 2,000g in 2 zones from quests and rewards.

This is where you will feel like the world is about to end. Without the aid of addons like questhubber you will hit brick walls like never before. I hit my first wall in Nagrand, 80/85. I read comments on wowhead and realized I should move on to the next zones because Shadowmoon Valley sends you back to Nagrand. Other than that you will run into a few deadends that require you to find and kill mobs that drop quest starter items. Also in Nagrand don't forget to do the quest
奥金顿......
this unlocks a small 4 chain quest that took me to 84/85.

These are the ones where you will want to knock out as many zones at a time as you can. With the new quests the flow is very well laid out. I didn't encounter a single problem other than the sheer amount of quests. This is also the time where you will want to do ALL the quests in every zone, even the extra ones after you have gotten the zone achievements for the seeker title. The only problem I had was a phasing problem in Ashenvale and after multiple attempts and generic responses Blizzard finally took care of the problem. One pet peeve I had was in Searing Gorge, and his name is
. I chose to do Eastern Kingdoms second after Kalimdor, and if you know who I am talking about then I am sure you cringe everytime this guy helps you during Hyjal dailies. This guy wants you to... get this... he wants you to not kill things so he can then ride them for what feels like an eternity, and then you have to click quest items off him. I almost threw my computer at the wall.
Trust me when I say this, after
卡利姆多的博学者

you will be a bit burned out. 1450 quests is a big hurdle to get over, especially in a zone where it takes longer to wait for cooldowns than it does to kill and loot mobs and we aren't talking long cooldowns we are talking Divine Storm cooldowns. This might sound like it isn't a big deal but it starts to bug you really fast.
As you can probably tell, this achievement is bittersweet. It isn't hard, it's just tedius. Don't be afraid to put in the time if it is something you really want to do. The lore is fun, and you get cool things like
彩虹生成器
which people freak out about mainly because 95% of the people in this game will never take the time to venture to these long lost places that give you nice rewards with no use except to make shiny rainbows.
To the few of us who actually took the time to play the entire game, I commend you.

Finally got it and with a big cheer and a self slap on the back went to collect my colours.... and then realised a trip to the barber was needed... bloody beard!
Well worth doing however.

If you are going to do this achievement I'd recommend downloading the Loremaster addon, available here:
http://www.curse.com/addons/wow/loremasteraddon
- to sum up it plots markers on your map to show you where the quests are that you haven't completed.
If you install Lightheaded and TomTom as in the setup instructions on Curse you will be able to have waypoints set to the quests, a log that will tell you which quests you have and haven't done, which lead onto quest lines etc. As well as that you will get an expandable part to your quest log which will let you view comments from wowhead in game to save you alt-tabbing for anything you are having trouble with!
I had been using EveryQuest prior to using this addon, but experienced a lot of issues with it (probably due to it being so outdated). Loremaster works with 4.3 though and I can't recommend it enough for this achievement!

hopefully some helpful words,
but when you go for this achievement, try and just have a questing marathon and get it done over a few days, taking a break could result in you just giving up on the achievement itself haha.
rolled out eastern K, and kalimdor over 4 days and while i may have only enjoyed 4-5 quests out of the hundreds i had to do, getting it done was a big relief.
if your gonna do this achievement go big and get it all done at once!

I never thought much of people with "Loremaster" title, but after going for this on my ex's mage I have a new respect for anyone I see with it.
One thing I find funny though, the people I whisper about it almost ALWAYS reply with "I did it in wotlk :)", like it was harder then?
Rofl not in the least. Cata opened up at least 700 more quests+daily quests needed to complete that leg of it. So if you see anyone who thinks dropping "did it last expac" makes it sound like they did it when it was harder, laugh in their face.

If i can give anyone a hint to help make their life a little easier while doing this its turn auto-loot off (to avoid filling your bags with garbage) and loot everyone, there is so many times i have been stuck with no quests left in an area because i didnt loot quest items. Also the Every Quest and Every Quest Givers add ons are super helpful as well. Good luck!

The single most frustrating zone on your way to completing this meta-achievement has to be Nagrand. I LOVED the zone prior to my Loremaster attempt but after spending hours upon hours trying to find the last 8 or quests needed (many if which required you to get quests from other zones first) it's now dropped down a few rungs on my ladder of favorites. I strongly recommend to anyone just starting out on Loremaster to start in Nagrand solely to realize that it will only get easier from there. Get as far as you can (likely a few short of the achievement) and then hit up the rest of Outland and you will get a few quests (most notably one from Shadowmoon) that will open up a quest chain in Nagrand to get those last few you need.
TL;DR Nagrand is frustrating as hell. But that just adds to the satisfaction of getting the achievement and title :D

If you're a Bloodsail Buccaneer like me and don't feel like grinding that endless silk cloth quest then you're in luck! When patch 5.0.4 comes out on the 28th, achievements will be account-wide. Since The Loremaster is a meta-achievement and has sub-achievements that also have sub-achievements, you can do them on all different characters, which is what I'm doing right now to prepare for the patch.
Basically, now you won't need to have done all the quests on one character, but you can have them spread across multiple characters and earn it without having to worry about anything like being hated with the Steamwheedle Cartel.

BTWQuests addon would really help with this in tracking what chains you have done or are in the midst of!
