This solo scenario is a new feature introduced in patch 5.4 to serve as a training tool for players to practice their roles in a private environment, away from prying eyes. It provides diverse challenges for healers, tanks and DPS to overcome in multiple difficulty modes. To access this place you must speak to your class trainer, or with Trial Master Rotun at the temple of the white tiger.

Because what is being tested here is your skill and not your gear, all of your items will be downscaled to ilvl 463 while in this scenario, also all tier bonuses are disabled, as are any procs from legendary items or weapons.

Also, in order to better simulate raiding conditions, at all times in this scenario you will be buffed by all the raid buffs in the game, and all enemies will be debuffed with all of the raid debuffs in the game.

You don't have to worry about steep repair costs, as these trials are not lethal, if you or the NPCs that work with you reach 1% HP the trial is over. Also any time you start a challenge, your HP and Mana are refilled to the max, and all your cooldowns are reset.

Beware that this instance will scale your iLvl to 463, and as a result the stats on your gear will also decrease. For the sake of damage numbers I can see why this is a good thing, but I was surprised to see that I was missing a lot of my attacks. When your gear is scaled down, all of the stats go down with it. This is including your Hit/Expertise, so if you had previously made sure to just reach the cap on those stats then beware that you will be below the cap while in the instance and will miss some attacks.

The Proving Grounds aims to emulate a raid situation with the buffs/debuffs, healthstones, repairs and food nearby, and I believe that lowering stats to put every player's damage/healing numbers on an even playing field is the right thing to do. However I don't believe Hit/Expertise should follow this number reduction as it wouldn't be very realistic to go into a raid under the cap and miss attacks. Perhaps I am missing something here but it seems like an oversight.

There is an Arcane Reforger in the Proving Grounds scenario, but I imagine reforging your "nerfed" stats wouldn't reflect your real gear at all once you leave the instance. It would also be expensive and time-consuming to reforge just for the sake of the Proving Grounds challlenges only to have to change it all back once you are finished.

This is the most unrealistic DPS Challenge ever... The mechanics of the fights are not relative to the time alotted. Nevertheless i will keep trying...

Tank ones aren't that hard. Got to 9/10 gold on the second try, could probably pass it if I give it a few more shots later. Word of advice: tank things near the knee-high walls, you don't want the aoe mobs doing damage to the NPC (because she'll stop healing you and one of you will die, probably you because your gear is scaled down), but you don't want to be so far away that you can't pick up adds when they start attacking her. Give priority to the rager guys and make sure to face them away from her (you can face them to the sides and run through them on their frontal cone, easy peasy).

Summary of what the NPC say during bronze and silver healer challenge on specific occasion:

Tank uses deffensive CD:
Oto the Protector: I'm a wall of iron, but I cannot hold much longer!
Debuff not dispelled fast enough and detonates:
Kavan the Arcanist: An Aqua Bomb has detonated! Dispel it faster, next time.
Ki the Assassin: I am sure they are trying, Kavan. Be nice.
Sooli stands in lava:
Ki the Assasin: Sooli, move!
Sooli the Survivalist: Huh? Ohhhh, ohhh!
You die:
Ki the Assassin:Oh no, did you forget to heal yourself?
NPC dies (said by the NPC):

One correction on the use of legendary meta gems:
Link to wowhead's Proving Grounds Guide

It states:

Tier set bonuses are not active, and neither are Sha-Touched Gems, legendary meta gems, or legendary cape procs.

This information is not correct concerning legendary meta gems, they are active and their stats do count. What doesn't work is the proc on them, but claiming they wouldn't be active at all is not true. Depending on socket bonuses, it might be worth using a legendary meta gem for its better stats over a regular gem including the proc.

To me, the gold damage part was neatly tuned, great fun to advance and took quite some attempts to master, gold healing was fairly easy and done in the first try. Hopefully they bring out more of those Proving Grounds.

September 11 hotfix:

Fixed an issue where the Healer Proving Grounds had a chance to cause the realm to crash.

So by entering a proving ground as a healer you had a chance to crash someones raid night? O.O

What if your ilvl is lower than 463? Say, you are trying this just shortly after hitting 90. Does it bring your ilvl UP to that level? If you don't have all your stats at the appropriate levels through reforging and the like (say hit and exp) does that play a role in this?

lost the golden dps challenge at last fight for a couple melee autoattacks.twice.something must be done with secondary stats also..as a fury warrior when i saw my crit going down to 21% and mastery just above 20% i was unable to use my standard rotation quite a few times.Nevertheless, it's quite interesting and fun once u understand 2-3 mechanisms.

tip for those who didnt know:u can use flask during proving grounds but pots are restricted.

Can someone please help me figure out how to get here at level 28? Patch said now available from level 15. Monk class trainer does not offer the option.

I cleared dmg bronze today but dmg silver didn't show up and i've tried it 3 times now...
The first time the clock stopped at 1 sec after the 3rd wave and then I got disconnected.
(and sry if my english isn't the best)

With the new system for Warlords of Draenor, I have found a slight problem as a healer: You do not get to refresh your mana in between waves.
Now, this may seem weird, but I usually drink a little in between pulls to stay topped off. In the Proving grounds, I don't get to do that, resulting in low mana towards the end of the scenario.

I hate the fact that you must complete silver to participate in Heroic Dungeons. On my main this is no problem but on my alts it is a huge pain.
