After searching the cave for an embarrassingly long time, I switched to using Flickering Torch instead of Sentry Flare and Cave Spelunker's Torch. If you use the map pin coordinates linked at the top of the page, Beef is located just East-Southeast of the in-game map marker.

In Hallowfall we'll help the Lamplighter in events where players collect Radiant Remnant and then Contribute Radiant Remnant on Keyflames (up to 20x, everyone can contribute) to trigger bonus objectives and Elite Rare spawns, or on Lesser Keyflames (3x, player-specific) to spawn NPCs with quests and special vendor purchases (usually things to help with the events) for Hallowfall Arathi reputation, Resonance Crystals, and more.

When you activate the Lesser Keyflame in the Torchlight Mine area, Attica Whiskervale will appear with a quest (probably Glow in the Dark) and some dialogue about Captain Lancekat. When you read everything about the Captain, Tale of Tails will also be available. Accept both quests to make sure you'll get Attica's Cave Torch because you can't complete some of the required steps without its Attica's Cave Torch aura or a similar effect that reveals hidden items like the Patrol Torch (vendor purchase from Yorvas Flintstrike when you activate his keyflame).

Head to the entrance of the Coldshadow Cave, and activate your torch to reveal Beef when you come close, grab the lynx kitten, and leave the cave. Outside fly around and Grab three more Lynx kittens. Then return to Attica and turn in your quest to receive Thunder.

For people like me with a terrible sense of direction even with the map coordinates, here's some landmarks: I found Beef in the main room of the cave just very-very slightly east of the center of it. He hid between the small pile of tiny rocks, the big patch of green clover with the red bush, and the little low pool of water. I found him using Flickering Flame Holder and I think any flame will work (as others said). I had to kind of stand still for him to appear fully. Hope this helps someone!

If using Sentry Flare Launcher to locate Beef, it won't detect outside the flares yellow glow. So, cover every square foot starting by the big rooms pool. Mainly found there. /way #2215 66.31 15.69 Beef in Cave

UPDATE: Its easier if you get the Flickering Torch it lasts for 10 minutes, and you can just walk with a torch instead of having to throw one. May have to be renown 9 for it to drop.

Looks like at least as of 9/1/24 the Cave Spelunker's Torch toy does not work to reveal Beef in his cave hiding spot; when I was standing on the spot he wasn't visible until someone else walked by with the Attica's Cave Torch.

NOTE! You MUST be on the quest for the lynx (Beef) to even be seen (Tale of Tails).

Top comment confusing. So activate Keyflame at Attica Whiskervale (64, 18), go through the white dialogue from Attica until the quest shows up. That is literally it..

In order for the quest to appear from the Attica Whiskervale NPC you have to talk to her. If you do, you will see that there will be only the daily quest that she offers and a dialogue option. Choose the dialogue option until it has no more dialogue and the quest will show up.

I had to click each kitten multiple times before I was able to pick it up. Just keep trying!

Thunder is right behind Dander , one of the lynx needed for the "missing lynx " achievement, in case your having issues locating him .

Description

The newborn lynx have wandered off again! Those rascally cats are always up to mischief, darting off without a care. With Peevish missing and only Vesper and I to hold this position, your assistance would be a boon! I reckon those pesky felines are somewhere nearby. See if you can bring them back. I would use a light and search the cave, the spider-infested area to the south, and the coast to the north.
