The Great Vault is in Oribos, Hall of Holding at 65.25, 30.51. This is where you redeem your weekly reward.

The Great Vault is the massive formation against the wall up the little steps. You click on it to access it.

You don't complete this quest right off the bat. You have to complete certain activities (raids, mythics, pvp) which will be noted in the Great Vault's interface allowing a reward once per week.

Is there any point to doing this Quest if you're never gonna do anything that rewards anything from it?
I was under the impression it was the equivalent of Bonus Rolls, so killing World Bosses is the closest I'm likely to come to getting anything from the Vault, if what I read is true...

Anyone able to verify, is the Great Vault supposed to count all completed keys or only the ones completed in time? I ran 3 keys at +7 so far and only the 2 that were timed show in the listing for "Top Runs this week"

I did 3 mythic keystones, them being Necrotic Wake (2), Mists (2), and Mists (4) but the vault still showed 2/4 and 2/10.
I thought it may take time to update since it was still 0/1 after my first key, so I checked back after Plaguefall (2) and it was now 3/4.
Did Sanguine Halls (2), came back to the Vault and found it was 4/10.
Log out for a bit, came back later to find it was 5/10. t1 is for mythic 4 and t2 is for mythic 2

Do i need to get this quest BEFORE opening the Vault? because I didnt realize there is a quest and already open my Vault. Does it mean i have to wait for another week?

So this is a quest given by Ba'vol, who stands near the Great Vault. He isn't helping you to access or use the Great Vault. Instead, the purpose of this quest seems to be to give you a Memory in order to craft legendary items.

I might be displaying some ignorance here about how the letter legendary system works? I was trying to decide if I needed to target a spec to benefit, more than the others. And I curiously discovered that the effect of the memory he was offering (same name, though, which suggests memories can benefit all specs) differed according to what spec I was in and not the spec which I had selected in the menu on my character portrait.

To get to Finish This Quest first Pick It up quest then open The Great Vault. If You will do other way hmm you need to wait until next week ;/.

Every week You will get to pick 1 Item from maximum 9 items. Ilvl of items is depends what level of difficulty have you performed in the following criteria:

1 Raid:

1 Slay Bossys:
3 - 1 item
7 - 2 items
10 - 3 items
If you will kill bosses on higher difficult ilvl will be higher

2 Mythic + complited:

1 - 1 item
4 - 2 items
10 - 3 items
All it depends of what mythis+ you will finish as 1 , 4 and 10 ( If you will finish you first M+10 but your 2nd M+ will be juz 2 you will get first item from you first M+ )

3 PVP Honor rate earned

1250+ - 1 item
2500+ - 2 items
6250+ - 3 items

As I mentioned you can only choose 1 item; /, but at least there is a choice :)

If you're a new level 60 and don't see this quest, it's because you have to complete The Weak Link first. ( 13th quest from theTorghast storyline )
The reward from this quest is a legendary memory so it technically makes sense having to release him first.

Note that you MUST pickup the quest BEFORE generating loot in the vault.

*I generated the loot, went for the quest, then took the loot out of the vault, and did not get credit.*

The easiest way to get loot in the vault as a casual player is to join one Mythic+2 group and finish it on time. An ilvl 200 item will be in your vault next week. The more mythics you finish, the more choices you'll have next week.

For example: If you fill out all 9 requirements in the vault, you'll see 9 different items next week. You can only choose one of those items to take.

Got this quest and the weekend event quest "Emissary of War" at the same time (complete 4 mythic dungeons), completed Mythic Spires an hour later...flew back to Oribos, went to the vault...

It isn't giving me credit for doing 1 mythic dungeon despite the Emissary of War quest tracker showing 1/4 mythic dungeons completed.

Put in a ticket for it...response time is estimated at 15 days! Doesn't help with the weekend event.
Posted on the WoW forums...no one even read it.

So yeah...thinking this is going to be a huge time waster for me now.

You can create a macro so you can see the Great Vault from anywhere:

/run LoadAddOn("Blizzard_WeeklyRewards"); WeeklyRewardsFrame:Show()

You cannot hit Esc to exit the window, and must click the little "X", but it's still nice to not have to go to the vault itself.

This wasn't obvious to me:

The Great Vault isn't the big vault right next to Ba'vol (the quest giver). No, that would be too simple. The obvious vault is simply your Guild Vault.

The "Great Vault" is up the stairs to the left of Caretaker Kah-Toll. If you don't do mythic raids. keystones or PVP, then you should avoid accepting this quest (or abandon it if you've already accepted it).

For what it's worth:

Even though I knew it'd be a long shot, I did Castle LFR parts one and two, then went back to kill boss one in part one. I was curious to see if killing a boss I'd already downed would count towards the seven raid bosses. Sure enough, it did NOT count.

Like I said, long shot, but I wanted to test my curiosity. So hopefully this helps anyone who might be wondering the same.

Evidentially this quest was created by a Lawyer.

You have to do it in a ridiculous specific order to get it.

The first time I tried:

I checked the vault and saw I could get something in it
I Picked up this quest
I Checked the vault again, picked my reward and it did NOT reward this quest

The second time I tried (different toon):

Picked up this quest
I Selected the vault, I saw this message "generating loot.." or something like that
The vault opened, I picked my prize and with my prize it gave me an Ancient Insignia and it DID reward this quest

I mean seriously? Evidentially the Ancient Insignia, which you get for who knows what reason, is what's needed to complete this quest.

fyi, I should mention that I got this reward from killing bosses in LFR. I don't see that mentioned here.

Hey people.

So I opened the vaul to just check whats in it, after I took the quest and then went back to vault to take the item. It didnt work this way. You have to actually take that quest first and then take the item from the vault.
This is actually pretty badly designed quest system. You have to step up Blizzard, this is a bit too much to be honest !

TO CASUAL PLAYERS
This quest is a breadcrumb to encourage using the Great Vault.

It is not worthwhile to cram to satisfy it unless you need the exact Runecarver Memory that it is offering you.

It is not on the campaign pathway for a sanctum.
It doesn't grant Renown (though the fights the GV wants might) nor block your way to other quests.

TO ENTHUSIASTIC GEARING-UP PLAYERS - OR -
ANYONE WONDERING WHAT'S THIS MEMORY AND WHY IT'S A BIG D
Runecarving requires unlocking the runecarver

if other posters are correct, Renown 13 is sufficient
Ve'nari needs to be visited, because she grants us quests that eventually unlock Torghast
The Runecarver is found inside Torghast just into its lobby to the right before you enter the big round atrium - once you find him.
unlocking takes some Maw questing about how to melt one of his chains so he has a hand free.

and four items in your bag plus some currency:

a blank crafted item to force the itemlevel of the resulting gear. Beware the type of gear item has to match the memory, it's limited to two or three parts, not all locations of item.
two Missives to force your favorite secondary stats
a Memory already submitted into the Runecarver's collection of what is able to be carved into a blank item
a heaping wheelbarrow of Soul Ash (from Torghast runs and possibly an occasional chest) apparently priced according to the finalized item level

The interface for crafting an item shows a spot in the middle, one to the left, (for the item and memory selection) and two to the right (for the missives).

Worthy of repeating in case this gets enough upvotes apparently the quest is super finicky about accepting the quest before you fill and open the vault with its options, the quest text acquire a reward from the Great Vault has been shown not to match its internal criteria exactly.

I had no problem acquiring a Memory from my Covenant Campaign when my renown was far enough along, check your rep vendor in the sanctum if you are looking at this because the Runecarver has said you need a memory before you can do more with him.

If you came here via Icy Veins or some other theorycrafting or raiding advancement site because this Memory might be your best in slot, then carry on. I don't think the power itself scales any with the iLvl of the blank gear item, but is a rather capable power per class.

PERSONAL GROUSE
All this work to get back ONE featureful ability when Azerite Gear gave us 4x times 3 pieces of gear, and back in its day Legion Legendaries gave us a mini talent tree of powers. The simplification that it might be is complicated by the horrific grind to acquire a tiny sliver of perfection again.

I see now why there are a number of non warlike players turning on War Mode; at least that gives them three powers.

Description

"The Purpose." Utter nonsense, of course. The attendants are so blinded by devotion that you could drop stewards on their heads and say the Purpose told you to do so, and they'd ramble on about it being a mysterious portent of some grand destiny. Kah-Toll is the most insufferable of all. I've been observing that vault for quite some time, and I assure you it has never opened for anyone. Of course, if someone COULD open it, I'd pay handsomely to know what's inside.
