I looted all corpses but did not find the quest item. Had to abandon the Quest and re-take it. This time it worked.

When you investigate a body you will loot a Scrap of Cloth. On the sixth body instead of a Scrap of Cloth you will instead loot an Assassin's Mark. You will no longer be able to search bodies and will need to go hand in the quest.

However, if for some reason your bags are full for the initial search of a body you will fail to loot the Scrap of Cloth. Unfortunately the game will still count that as one of the six required searches, so when you search your sixth body you will collect your fifth Scrap of Cloth, but the game will deactivate further bodies for searching.

If this happens you will need to abandon the quest and start again. And make sure that you have space in your bags for the Scrap of Cloth items.

This is one of the quests in a chain that will grant at it's conclusion an Outpost Building Assembly Notes and the toy Mystery Keg. This quest is only available if you have built the Brewery (Hearthfire Tavern).

In addition, via this quest line you will get a follower for your garrison - Hulda Shadowblade / Dark Ranger Velonara (H)/Hulda Shadowblade / Dark Ranger Velonara (A). This follower is also available from Nalya Battlehorn (H)/Deluwin Whisperfield (A) in your garrison for 5000g if you have built a Smuggler's Den and do not intend to change it.

The Mystery Keg can only be obtained if you have built the Hearthfire Tavern (Brewery) instead of the Smuggler's Den as your Spires of Arak Outpost. If you have already selected the Smuggler's Den, you must pay 5000g to switch outposts (You can get 1000g back at later, as I've noted at the end of this comment). This can be done by speaking to Taskmaster Gornek (H)/Lieutenant Willem (A), who will give you the option to pay the fee to switch.

After building the Brewery Outpost, you must complete the following quest line:

After this quest line has been completed, you can obtain the quest Not In Your Army (H)/Cleaning House (A), which will grant the Mystery Keg toy as a reward.

NOTE: Completing No Time to Waste (H)/No Time to Waste (A) grants Outpost Building Assembly Notes as a reward. This can be used to purchase blueprints from Torgg Flexington (Warspear)/Kinkade Jakobs (Stormshield). You can get blueprints you don't already have instead of purchasing them with gold.
However, if you already have all the blueprints, purchase any of the following blueprints to vendor for 1000g:

Description

Their poison is more powerful than I thought. We need to find the orc responsible for making it.

Master assassins always leave their mark somewhere on one of their kills. It's a calling card; a claim to fame in their circles.

This was definitely the work of such an assassin.

We should split up and see if we can find some sign on one of the outcast corpses that will lead us to their creator. Rendezvous at the bottom of the hill, commander.
