Every time I hop on the Sanitron 500 it takes me through the 'decontamination" process, but it always malfunctions and won't let me finish the quest. Anyone else having this issue?

The Malfunction is part of the quest, but the not getting quest credit is not. Its Bugged, and although you can leave the area, none of the other gnome starting zone quests (levels 2-6) will be available to you without finishing this one.

if you look east, there's another room which looks like a long hallway. At the beginning of the room are three thingies that look like mini helicopters; these are the Sanitron 500s. It's a vehicle. There is a screenshot of them at the top of this page.

Description

You've been down here in Gnomeregan for a long time, <name>, and it's amazing that you've survived and kept your wits so long! We need to get you out.

Before we can send you to the surface to join the rest of the gnomes, you have to go through the decontamination process. Just head into the next room and board the Sanitron 500. It will do the rest! It shouldn't even hurt... much.

When you're all done, check in with Technician Braggle and he'll make sure you get some suitable gear.
