how to not make money 101.... cancel blizzcon lolhow to make bank in 2024 hold blizzcon on 30th anniversary of warcraft 20th anniversary of world of warcraft on its 10th expac.....
It's like they want to fail. #1 - retail WoW is the flagship title and should always remain so - meaning they should have the most time and money spent on that title#2 - after a long hiatus, they finally have a Blizzcon last year and now - back to not having a Blizzcon#3 - no one cares about Diablo or Overwatch - more Warcraft please
Having it online is better imho, no one will have to pay more money for travel, etc. it's safer. I just feel bad for the cosplayers who wanted their costumes on the stage but ultimately, it's probably better than packing massive wings into a suitcase.
After the "do you guys not have phones" thing blizzcon has prob been a net negative for blizz in terms of PR. any profit from ticket sales has probably been at a min % for many years now
Posting record profits but posting record low player happiness = were not doing blizcon for them to come yell at us lol. Im sure Blizzcon was a pretty big negative for them last year in terms of money made. Name a time when blizcon did not sellout within the first few hours. The damage to their reputation has finally taken hold.
Warcraft 1 and 2 Reforged are next?
Loosely translated from corporate-speak:"We're cancelling Blizzcon instead of celebrating the 20th anniversary of WoW properly because of the following:1. Microsoft just laid off a bunch of employees and -no way- would they greenlight an expense like this right now.2. Last year's Blizzcon was a huge mess logistically.3. You all know we don't have anything else new to announce right now anyway lol.---> 3a. Microsoft knows that too and we couldn't answer when they asked us, "So what are you even trying to promote?"
this makes perfect sense blizzard/microsoft is now a combined stuido . so it not just blizzard standalone anymore..
The thing is throwing big cons is expensive not to mention we have seen the shift in the overall video game industry of big companies doing their own showcases online with out having to spend the big money on booths, hotel space for employees, and other expenses that goes with either going to a convention like E3 or hosting a Blizz Con. We have already seen this shift with Blizzard already showcasing more stuff about War With In since it hit alpha then anytime previously and I would rather get more online community updates like we've just got than one big con at the end of the year.
